I think where I'm still taking some issue is we're seeing two different things still. You're saying you didn't see the outpour of hate when the Democrats were killed and I bet that's true in the form of social media and online, you would have to venture onto Truth Social for that on the Republican side, but you don't andyou have lots of liberal friends (and someone the more extreme side) But what I haven't seen today is Democrat politicians doing any of that as you said. What I saw when the congressmen were killed months ago was a Republican make specific memes and jokes about it the day after, and the president saying he wouldn't call the governor to give condolences. It was just one for what it's worth but that's a lot different to me than.. just to pick on him one more time, Grim saying just about anything.
It is true. I do not venture onto truth social so maybe there are more extremist over there, but Twitter is also a pretty strong right wing town Square also filled with more Nazis and I like to see on a daily basis which if we’re blaming anybody for being hateful rhetoric pushing morons probably I would blame Nazis more than anybody. Because how the hell do you exist?
I understand the distinction you’re trying to make. But I will say for me seeing every day people since at least the moment Trump walked down the escalator use the language that demonizes everybody on the Republican side consistently for almost a decade now dents on my psyche, a little more than what a politician might say but I do own that MAGA isn’t helping like I said in a previous post. If MAGA can’t own the ways in which they’re not helping and can’t denounce political violence like their peers on the Democrat side, they shouldn’t be representing anybody. I do think MAGA specifically are a classless people and if this had been 10 years ago, I don’t think any Republican politicians would have belittled the death of the lawmakers in that way, and they all would have released some kind of statement similar to the way the Democrats are today, which is just unfortunate that the division we’ve gotten to at this point.
But that’s why I find it important to praise the Democrats on at least on the political side that are denouncing political violence because I’m not one of those people that tries to demonize the entire side I just wish there was more people that were trying to come to the middle on the ground level on both sides, but interestingly as someone that does have liberal friends, I had a lot more but one by one most cut me off when Trump won the Presidency. I’m just waiting for us to unite.
I denounce anyone on the right that does contribute to the violence and the rhetoric that leads to it and I’ll call them out when I see as I do regularly with Nazis that especially populate X.
To cut some bread with you, I will say that I do think more of the harsh rhetoric that comes specifically from politicians are coming from the Republican/MAGA side, including the never Trumpers that contribute to the animosity on their own side towards their side and the way that they speak about Democrats in general in the wake of tragedies. Not to say that Joe Biden didn’t also basically say that all Republicans were a threat to democracy in a speech, but on average, the MAGA folks are the ones that are doing more divide on the top end of the spectrum. which is why I was saying earlier I missed the Romney/Obama era because once upon a time, the politicians at least respected people that they disagree with across the aisle.
