IMO, Survivor Series needs some love, attention and somewhat of a re-think and given the current wave of themed PPVs I've had my fingers crossed, hoping that this will indeed happen this year.

If you could update/repair the concept of Survivor Series what would you do?

Feel free to throw in a 2009 card to serve as an example of your 'plans'....

I would probably cut out the "Bragging Rights" concept and make the SS more of a brand warfare matches, back like before. Maybe a SD vs Raw match, a Raw vs ECW match, and a SD vs ECW match or maybe one 5v5v5 match with maybe a 4th team of "Rogue" guys and they could all surround the ring. (5 on the left, right, top, bottom aprons would be a cool sight. IMO) As of now, it still should be brands against each other only, not 8-10 random guys who are feuding. :n:

^^^I had a similar first impression when I read about Braggin Rights.... It sounds to me like ideas they should try and realise within the SS concept.

My memory may be failing me but isn't 2005 the only time they've actually done an SD v Raw SS match?

First thing that springs to mind for me is the EC... The concept fitted in well when they debuted in at SS02... Anyone think it would be a good idea to routinely have the EC matches at SS?

Yeah, now that I think of it, you are right. Only one or two times at most since the brand split. Which would make it an even better idea to go with the brands idea.

But you're right about the EC! It still feels weird to see No Way Out and even the time they had it at Summerslam...it feels right having it at SS but I think they're deadset on having them at NWO.

But a great idea to me was the "Survivor Series" tournament. It couldn't last because of the KOTR but I think a current version could be great.

^^^^B-I-G fan of the KOTR PPVs right here! :y:

As long as the match ideas operate on an ellimination basis then compared to what the PPV has become, all is good IMO.

I don't think the roster is strong enough to facilitate a whole bunch of 5 on 5 tag matches (It's not the 80's - the roster isn't stars from top to bottom*) but there's no reason why they can't have say, 4-way elimination matches, gauntlet matches or mini tourneys for the some of the titles.

(* Back then someone like Duggan would captiain a team whilst these days a guy with a similar placing on the roster would lack the suitable star power for such a role. Also the amount of tag teams on the roster used to go a long way to bulk out the card cos you'd have 2 singles guys and a tag team join forces.)

SS has always been one of my favorite PPVs. But the Thanksgiving tradition thing is gone. Gone are the 4 or 5 man team matches being all its about. Now it's about the next chapter on John Cena's feud. bleh.

Yeah, Survivor Series isn't going to work in standard brand warfare anymore... the rosters are way too unbalanced as far as major star power goes. I think the Chamber is best suited for NWO.
Perhaps each title could be put on the line in a KOTR type fashion. Have people advancing their way up the brackets and towards the title.
I mean, the brackets would fill up the card alone and there wouldn't be a need for much else..it's a pretty easily booked PPV with high stakes.

I would like to see the 5v5 tag matches again... I liked those...

If I remember correctly, one time a tag team won a match against another tag team (pretty sure it was at Survivor series, can't remember it too well) and then each member of the winning team got to run the show for a night. They could do something like that... tourney style...

in my head I see 5v5 (with the champ either included or as a #1 contender match) then the winning team (plus the champ if he wasn't involved) in a battle royal match right after for the title. Prolly a bad idea but it sounds good in my sleepy head as I type it...

It would be a good way to give someone a "surprise" win and a champion push... or completely screw it up and make everybody look bad...

I think now is as good a time as any to start a brand war. Other than Jerishow, the other wrestlers have mainly stuck to their brand. When Trump bought Raw, the reaction from both Smarks and kids were of support because of the imminent brand war. That of course ended prematurely, but Vince should see the potential in this. If done right, this could be as big as moving back to the buy rates of the 1990s.

I like the 1 leader choosing his fighters concept. Like Brock/Angle and StoneCold/Bischoff where the fighters are revealed one by one. It adds to the excitement of finding out who the wrestlers on each team were and that would be more of a solid build up than just throwing 5 feuds together and then have a mass clusterfuck the day before the PPV. I've always believed that SS should be used to start new feuds, not carry over old ones.

You simply have to, must stick with tradition the 5 on 5 matches are one of the best gimmick matches ever

If you wanted a new concept for a PPV then leave SS alone and go with War Games as a new PPV

anyways my card would look kinda like this

Team Orton; ---- Team Cena;
Orton -- ---- Cena
Rhodes ---- Shawn
Dibiase ------ Triple H
Jericho ----- MVP
Big Show ----- Henry

The Smackdown roster is a little bare so I'd maybe have Ziggles and Morrison a team Captains

but I'd sure as hell only have one title match which would be Punk v Taker

No-one said to get rid of them.

Again, no-one said "new" concept.... The idea was to "update/repair" it.

5-on-5's
Elimination Chambers
3/4-way elemination matches for titles
Gauntlet Matches
Tournaments

....and so on all still fit within the concept of survival.

So basically, one 5 on 5 match and treat the rest like a normal PPV then.... Just like it is already.

Airfix can you really see them going back to all survival matches again? not a chance, I'd love to see it happen but guys like knox, Kahli, Kozlov, Noble, Bourne, Chavo and Santino won't be on that PPV

One decent Idea could be a Monsters v Highflyers match

No (See my very first post - I refer to the lack of roster depth.).

Dude, try reading specifically what I wrote.

Example card to illustrate what I was taling about:

5-on-5 SS Match:
DX, Kofi, Bourne & Primo
Vs
Cody, DiBiase, Masters, Carlito & Miz

4-man tournament for the vacant WWE title:
Orton, Cena, Swagger, MVP

Gauntlet Match for the WHC:
Punk (c), Batista, Undertaker, Jericho

4-way elimination match for the IC-title:
Morrison (c), Kane, Ziggler, Mysterio

Gauntlet Match for the Women's title:
Mickie (c), Gail, Beth, Alicia

Each match still follows the concept of survival.
