BTB Discussion Thread

I feel that if you were to use AI for writing, there probably shouldn't be any rule outlawing it for a lot of the reasons already mentioned. Mainly, just the simple fact that none of this stuff is that serious and if a person sees it as a way to have their creative outlet, then fair enough. However, on the flipside of that, we do have accolades for the section and people who take the writing aspect of the hobby very seriously, so I do think if I was going to use generative AI to write parts of or entire entries for my BTB, I would at least include a disclaimer of that in the interest of transparency.

As far as graphics, they are supplemental to the core of what BTBs are, which is creative writing imo. I'd just say generally speaking, I'd much prefer to see some very basic graphics that were photoshopped, nothing special or anything as opposed to a bunch of really extravagant AI shit. I'm not gonna not read a BTB based off of it, but I'd definitely enjoy a project more with human made graphics or even very little to no graphics, over one using AI for whatever that's worth.

If I had any sort of timeline, I would probably use AI certain times of year. Never ask a teacher to do anything extra in May. That being said, I would do what I tell my students to do: alter it enough to make it my own. It would be based in AI, but edited and modified to be what I want it to be. If I'm putting my name on inferior work, it's at least going to be my effort.

I can see the benefit of using AI for graphics on a project, no issue. I tried it for two posters but I like the way my homemade posters in GIMP look. There’s a certain unprofessional charm I think they have. I did this twice, won’t do it again because it just seem worth it. Bit of fun making my own posters, even as lame duck as they are. Coming up with my KOTR poster and managing to pull it off was a big win, and was nice little pat on the back moment when I did it.

I wouldn’t use it for writing at all. You can easily tell when people have used it and I’ve no interest in reading AI work. I think it’s different in the booking games as you aren’t presenting that as your own work. On a forum like this, you are presenting the writing as something you did and introducing AI goes against that. I get people not having time as it is a hobby, but if you let AI write parts or the whole of your show, then it should be labelled as such. If people are going to read or provide comments to a thread, they should be able to know that it’s done by a human or by AI. Again, for the most part you can tell because AI will repeat phrases over and over, however even then, there should be some notice by the author to advise they’ve not written everything.

Just FYI to everyone, I've updated/added to the wording in the rules section about useless topic bumps. There's an influx of what I'd call useless posts that aren't beneficial to anyone. I'll post the new wording below:

Never bump dead threads, if a BTB has not been commented on in a couple months, leave it be.

Also, please do not spam or post meaningless responses to a writer's BTB, especially posts that are spam or asking for updates/when updates will take place. People are doing this as a hobby and it can also be time consuming. Having to deal with posts about when an update will take place, while could be good-intentioned from someone who is a fan of the work, can be a net negative in the end for the writer. So please do not do this. This includes DMing users or posting on their profiles.

If you are responding to a BTB, try to make it some meaningful feedback. It's not that difficult and the writer will certainly appreciate it.

I like that this started a real conversation because AI is such a hot topic everywhere right now, especially online. I always enjoy seeing where people stand on it. I’m also glad the discussion stayed civil because topics like this can spiral out of control pretty fast, and thankfully, that didn’t happen here.

I mentioned in my initial post that I’m currently a stay at home dad and a full time college student. What really amuses me is that I take online courses to save on gas, and every week, professors post discussion questions where a crazy amount of students use AI for their answers. Then other students reply to those AI posts with more AI generated responses. At that point, it feels like I am watching AI communicate with AI, which honestly blows my mind, and always gets a laugh, but what is kinda wild is that those same students get 100 on the discussion. So what do I know? lol

What’s even crazier is that my university seemed to have accepted that AI is here to stay. I had one professor actually require us to use ChatGPT to check our work, then post the entire conversation we had with AI. So we could explain the changes we made to our projects. That was wild to me, cause my community college was very strict against Ai, but this universtiy isn't. It honestly makes no sense.

After being in college for the past three years, I can usually spot AI writing pretty easily because almost everyone uses it at this point. I probably have a different perspective on AI than some people, but I do appreciate when people are transparent about using it. In college, we’re expected to source AI generated material the same way we source other information, and honestly that just feels like part of living in a tech driven world in 2026.

I’ll never hate on someone for using anything that make their hobby more enjoyable. I’m pretty laid back about it overall. I’ve used AI myself, mostly for those throwaway tag matches or random singles matches that every fantasy booker hates to write, but has to put together but doesn’t really want to spend time writing. Usually, I’ll type out the big spots or moments I want, then let AI handle some of the filler. Sometimes it works really well, but it definitely needs a lot of direction because it misses just as often as it hits. Half the time, I end up thinking I could’ve written the whole thing faster myself, but that’s just how it goes.

One thing I absolutely do enjoy using AI for is throwing curveballs into my booking, or writing press releases for me, or like a Wrestling Observer type thing, but sometimes I like the graphics it makes, but sometimes I can't stand the way it makes some things look like titles, people, and things like that. I guess it's just one of those things. Take the good with the bad.

My personal thoughts on AI when it comes to stuff like creative work is it should never be used to come up with your creative ideas. Because then what’s the point? Me personally if I was ever going to do something like this again I would probably use it just to write out the actual structure, but I would feed it all the creative input myself. It would just be used as a tool to structure it out into a readable and digestible format.

In that regard, AI is actually just a straight up useful tool, pretty much the same as any website that allows you to create a randomizer wheel or anything like that.

I think for most of these situations I'd just prefer the randomizer tho really. That makes it sort of a true challenge to me, when it can literally be anything, where I assume AI would try and read into what's a logical version instead if asked

Personally I've used it when doing NBA dynasties and shit where I'll manage the whole league... and just be like "choose one of these All-NBA players to go to shit this season" and list some choices. In cases where I've fed it prior information about the league, I'm sure it takes a moment to gleen over the information and see if it could inform its decision any that way, but ultimately for me it's about the same as throwing their names on a wheel It's still taking that decision out of my hands, basically.
