SmackDown Live this week starts with a slightly different cold open as we cut to a video promo showing KAY LEE RAY and LYRA VALKYRIA in action as part of NXT UK. We start with Kay Lee Ray’s reign at the top of the NXT Women’s division, being shown, a record-breaking 572 days. We next see Lyra Valkyria in action and training, and it is confirmed via voiceovers that she trained with former World Champions Finn Balor and Becky Lynch. The videos come to an end with Kay Lee Ray and Lyra Valkyria staring each other down in NXT UK as the voiceover confirms the winner will make the Quarter Finals of the Queen of the Ring!

*TRIUMPH*

LYRA VALKYRIA
makes her way out to officially start SmackDown Live! Corey Graves welcomes us to the show and promises a big night, with the final 2nd round matches tonight, plus the Men’s Universal title on the line in the main event as Roman Reigns defends against Chad Gable. Beth Phoenix says Lyra is one of the most impressive women on the NXT UK roster and has the chance to shock the world by making it to the quarterfinals.

*VENOM*

KAY LEE RAY
walks out getting a mixed reaction from the live crowd, mostly boos, but some have been impressed with her flashy offense. Corey Graves says Kay Lee Ray was a dominant champion in NXT UK and proved herself to be one of the best in the company. Beth Phoenix says Kay Lee Ray’s only weakness, from what she has seen, is her cockiness, and it could cost her if she takes Lyra lightly. The two superstars from the British Isles circle the ring before the referee calls for the bell to get the match underway!

Match 1: Queen of the Ring 2nd Round match: Kay Lee Ray vs Lyra Valkyria

Match summary:
Lyra offers a handshake to Kay Lee Ray before the match, but the Scot just laughs it off. Lyra and KLR from there lock up in the middle of the ring with both women trying to battle for control. KLR gets in control of the match early, making sure that when Lyra ends up by the ropes, they make full use of the count. Lyra catches KLR taunting one too many times and rolls her up for a very close 2 count. This makes Kay Lee Ray wake up a bit as she gets more aggressive in her attack on Lyra.

Lyra survives the beating from KLR and fights back, impressing the crowd with how hard she is hitting and even getting loud cheers from the fans who are impressed with the Irish superstar. Kay Lee Ray though, cuts her off and sends Lyra down to the mat before lifting her up, hitting her with the KLR BOMB (Gory bomb)! Kay Lee Ray makes the cover 1 2 Lyra kicks out! Kay Lee Ray looks furious and argues with the referee before heading to the corner of the ring… GOES FOR THE SWANTON BOMB… KNEES UP FROM LYRA! Kay Lee Ray stumbles to her feet… LYRA HITS HER WITH A ROUNDHOUSE KICK! Lyra makes the cover 1 2 3 LYRA PICKS UP THE UPSET WIN!

Winner via pinfall: Lyra Valkyria (8:09)

Lyra Valkyria gets to her feet with a big smile on his face and celebrates to loud cheers from the fans, happy to see the plucky underdog pull off the shock victory. Corey Graves says Lyra Valkyria has shown the world that she has a future at the top level, with Beth Phoenix chiming in to say she is now 3 matches away from being the now within the Women’s division! Lyra carries on her celebration whilst Kay Lee Ray sulks up the entrance ramp, frustrated with her loss tonight, as we go on a commercial break.

We return from the commercial break, cutting inside THE BLOODLINE’S LOCKER ROOM! We can see their table set up in the middle of the room with JIMMY USO, NAOMI and TAMINA sitting on one side. On the other side of the table, we can see JACOB FATU, JEY USO and PAUL HEYMAN before the camera cuts to show us ROMAN REIGNS at the head of the table. Paul thanks everyone for being here before saying the Tribal Chief is about to speak.

Roman says the draft is coming up really soon and they have managed to fill the entire Bloodline with gold. He looks at The Usos and Jacob Fatu with a smile before glaring at Naomi and Tamina. He says the more titles they have, the more power they have in the draft and the more money they can earn for the family. He makes it clear that he has told Paul Heyman to submit The Bloodline as a group to the commissioners before looking directly at Naomi!

Roman says she needs to pull her weight and become Queen of the Ring tomorrow night. If she does not, there will be changes within the Bloodline! Naomi looks nervous, but Jimmy speaks on her behalf, saying she will get it done before giving his wife a kiss. Roman stays silent before getting to his feet, saying he plans to lead by example and show Chad Gable what happens when you mess with the Bloodline. He promises to destroy him like he destroyed Daniel Bryan before we cut back to the ring.

*ATHENA*

EMBER MOON
makes her way out with the Mrs Money in the Bank briefcase in hand. She gets loud boos from the live crowd before walking to the ring with a smug smirk on her face. Corey Graves says Ember Moon is someone he sees as a favourite to win the entire tournament. Beth puts her over a former WWE and NXT Women’s Champion, plus the current Mrs Money in the Bank, meaning she could win Queen of the Ring to earn one Women’s title shot and use the briefcase for the other title!

Ember Moon is now standing in the ring with a microphone in her hand before addressing the fans in cocky fashion, saying she keeps telling them what is going to happen, but the fans don’t listen. She gets louder boos for that jibe, but says she has a ticket back to her WWE Women’s title; however, she deserves the world! She says she is a goddess and she should be crowned the Queen of the Ring; they shouldn’t have to bother with an entire tournament just to get the outcome we all know is coming!

Ember Moon says people call it arrogance, but she is better than every one of the hussies still in the tournament. The boos get even louder, but Ember Moon doesn’t care and tells the crowd to take a look at who she faces in the Quarter finals tomorrow night: Liv Morgan! The crowd loudly cheers for the Raw superstar, causing a sour reaction from Ember Moon. She shakes her head, saying Liv Morgan has a lot of potential, but asks the crowd what titles she has won in the WWE! The crowd boos loudly, but before Ember can say another word…

*BUBBLEGUM BITCH*

LIV MORGAN MAKES HER WAY OUT!
She gets a loud pop from the fans and has a big smirk on her face, with the crowd not expecting to see the Raw superstar appear tonight. Liv Morgan has a microphone in hand and noticeably, you can see tape poking out underneath the outfit that Morgan is wearing for tonight’s show. Liv says she was backstage speaking to Shawn Michaels ahead of the draft and couldn’t help but hear Ember Moon running her mouth!

Liv says on Monday, she faced someone who was looking past her in Franky Monet, someone who saw that Liv was not 100% and thought she was going to get a free ride into the quarter finals! Liv Morgan says she sees the same cockiness from Ember Moon and sees someone who is dismissing her before the bell has even rung! Ember shakes her head and tells Liv Morgan she isn’t dismissing her due to her injuries, she is dismissing her because she knows she is going to beat her ass no matter what state she is in!

Liv shakes her head and tells Ember that this is a huge opportunity for her career-wise. She points at the Money in the Bank briefcase and says Ember Moon has a title shot even if she loses on Saturday, Liv has never held gold and doesn’t know when she would get the chance to fight for the title again! Ember smirks and says that’s why she is going to lose tomorrow night, because Ember knows what it takes to be a champion: Liv and Ruby don’t! The promo ends with the two women staring each other down as we cut to a commercial break.

When we return from the commercial break, we can see MANDY ROSE sitting in a hospital with SONYA DEVILLE and OTIS DOZOVIC by her side. She looks pretty down with her arm in a sling as she tells Sonya that the doctor has confirmed she is out of action for the next 5 weeks. Sonya tells Mandy she will hold down the fort and she has no intention of letting the MMA Horsewomen get away with their actions. Mandy tells her to be careful before Sonya promises she will, leaving the couple alone in the room.

Mandy turns to Otis, who is looking at his phone and says he can take the call from Tucker Knight if he wants to. Otis shakes his head, saying he will call him back later and puts his phone on the table. Mandy says she doesn’t want to come between them as a team and if Otis… Otis cuts her off, saying Tucker needs to accept he loves Mandy, or Heavy Machinery is over. Mandy is shocked by the love confession but smiles and says she loves Otis too, leading to a kiss between the two before we cut back to the ring.

*BORN A KING*

JIMMY USO
marches out getting boos from the live crowd, alone for his match tonight, but he has a slight smirk ready to take on Daniel Garcia. Corey Graves confirms that Shawn Michaels has banned everyone from ringside for this match and tonight’s main event! Beth Phoenix says it is rare we would see Jimmy Uso in singles action, but he has a chance to prove himself against…

*LEADING THE WAY*

DANIEL GARCIA!
He has a black towel around his neck and the young superstar looks focused before walking towards the ring, ready for an important match tonight against a member of the Bloodline. Corey Graves says Daniel Garcia spends even his days off learning from the rest of Alpha Academy and according to the group, he is seen as a future superstar. Beth Phoenix says you can train in the gym all you want, but it is a different experience getting matches in the ring. Daniel looks at Jimmy with an ice-cold glare before the referee calls for the bell to get this match underway!

Match 2: Jimmy Uso vs Daniel Garcia

Match summary:
Jimmy Uso talks a lot of smack right after the bell, but soon gets a punch to the jaw, knocking him to the mat and leaving him rubbing his jaw. Daniel Garcia throughout, has a clear game plan and targets the right leg of Jimmy Uso, working over one-half of the tag team champions with submissions. Jimmy Uso tries to take him down, but the damage to the right leg proves too much as Garcia taps him out with the HEEL HOOK!

Winner via submission: Daniel Garcia (4:49)

Daniel Garcia drops the right leg of Jimmy Uso to the mat and does a fairly subdued celebration after the routine victory tonight. Corey Graves says Daniel showed off the submission work he has learned inside the Academy. Beth Phoenix says if Alpha Academy ends up on the same brand as The Bloodline, Garcia will have a claim to a WWE tag team title shot.

We return from the commercial break to see TUCKER KNIGHT walking through the backstage area as he is trying to call Otis Dozovic on the phone. He gets annoyed that Otis is not answering and kicks over a water fountain. We then see BRYON SAXTON slowly walking into the shot, a bit apprehensive but still wanting to get an interview with Tucker Knight. He asks Tucker how things are with Otis and Tucker gives him an angry glare before sighing, saying they are just fine in a sarcastic manner. Tucker says his best friend is more focused on some girls than on getting back the WWE tag team titles and getting revenge on the people who took away months of his career!

Tucker then rolls his eyes as he sees THE MYSTERIOS walk into the shot. REY MYSTERIO confronts Tucker, saying he reviewed last week’s footage and he cheated to beat his son. Tucker says if the referee didn’t see it, it doesn’t count. DOMINIK MYSTERIO steps forward, ready for a fight, but Rey says instead they will see where Heavy Machinery ends up in the draft. Rey then says if they end up on the same brand, he wants Tucker in the ring next week. Tucker smirks and says he already beat the son, why not beat his dad too and walks off, ending the segment.

*OMEN IN THE SKY*

THE GOOD BROTHERS
walk out, getting boos from the live crowd. KARL ANDERSON and LUKE GALLOWS give each other a too-sweet at the top of the entrance ramp before ADAM COLE and JORDAN DEVLIN join in with them as well! Corey Graves says The Good Brothers felt that AJ Styles is past his prime and that’s why they turned their back on one of their best friends. Beth Phoenix says they might come to regret those comments depending on the result of tonight’s match.

*A LONG WAY DOWN*

BIG CASS
marches out first, getting a decent pop from the live crowd. He stands at the top of the entrance ramp and stares down The O.C. in the ring. Corey Graves says AJ Styles brought Big Cass back to the WWE after helping him sort out his issues in real life. Beth Phoenix says the 7-foot superstar feels loyalty to AJ Styles and that he owes him his 2nd chance in WWE.

*PHENOMENAL*

AJ STYLES
makes his way out last, getting loud cheers from the fans. He looks at Big Cass, sharing a fist bump and a nod. Corey Graves says AJ’s body might be letting him down a bit and he is closer to the end than the start but he is still a former World Champion. Beth Phoenix says AJ’s experience will be vital in dealing with Adam Cole and Jordan Devlin at ringside. AJ speaks to Cass, who nods letting AJ start the match whilst Karl Anderson starts for the Good Brothers.

Match 3: AJ Styles and Big Cass vs The Good Brothers w/Adam Cole and Jordan Devlin

Match summary:
AJ comes out of the gate like a pitbull and goes right after Karl Anderson, catching the larger competitor by surprise. He even forces Karl to tag Luke Gallows into the match, but he also has trouble with AJ, as the Phenomenal One looks to prove a point against his former best friends. Big Cass is on the ring apron ready for a tag, but maybe due to being so heated, AJ chooses to stay in the ring, leading to The Good Brothers taking control thanks to a timed trip by Adam Cole as Jordan Devlin distracts the referee.

The Good Brothers start to work over AJ and even taunt him in the corner of the ring, with Adam Cole and Jordan Devlin joining in where they can do whatever dirty tricks help to wear down AJ Styles. AJ Styles stays alive with the crowd looking to cheer him on, but eventually fights past The Good Brothers to get to his corner of the ring and brings BIG CASS INTO THE RING! The crowd goes wild as Big Cass takes total control, dominating The Good Brothers thanks to his superior size!

Big Cass is on fire and teases bringing this match to an end, BUT DEVLIN DISTRACTS THE REFEREE ALLOWING ADAM COLE TO USE A STEEL CHAIR TO THE BACK OF CASS! He looks to dispose of the evidence as The Good Brothers get ready to pounce… KEITH LEE AND DOMINIK DIJAKOVIC RUN OUT TO CHASE OFF ADAM COLE AND JORDAN DEVLIN! Big Cass, whilst that happens, fights off the Good Brothers and tags AJ back into the match, who runs wild. Big Cass grabs Karl Anderson, lifting him into a DELAYED VERTICAL SUPLEX POSITION AS AJ HITS A DIVING CROSSBODY FOR THE 3 COUNT!

Winners via pinfall: AJ Styles and Big Cass (9:18)

AJ gets back to his feet and is joined back in the middle of the ring by Big Cass, with both men happy with the victory tonight. Keith Lee and Dominik Dijakovic join their recent allies in the ring as we see The O.C. retreating up the entrance ramp. Corey Graves says The O.C. tried to use the numbers game to their advantage, but AJ Styles and Big Cass had an answer to stop them. Beth Phoenix says Adam Cole is going to have to go back to the drawing board before we cut elsewhere backstage.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We see THE MEDUSA COMPLEX sitting in a stairwell backstage. CHARLI EVANS is drinking a Monster Energy drink with MILLIE MCKENZIE looking directly at the camera. She says she and the Medusa Complex have been fighting ever since they came to SmackDown, but with the draft coming up, she feels she needs to do something big to try to make sure they get a good spot in the draft. Charli turns to her friend and asks her what she has in mind, bringing a smile to Millie’s face.

Millie makes it clear that she wants to challenge herself and there is a certain Final Boss down in NXT UK she never got to fight: Meiko Satomura. Millie goes on to hype up Meiko and her legacy as a woman’s wrestler all over the world. Millie says she wants to test herself against one of the World’s best and that means she needs to fight Meiko Satomura at Queen of the Ring. Charli hypes up her best friend, saying she is the 21st-century badass and she is going to kick Meiko’s ass!

*FORCE OF GREATNESS*

NIA JAX
makes her way out, starting off the 2nd hour with loud boos from the live crowd. Nia doesn’t care as she walks to the ring with purpose. Corey Graves says this is a big match ahead of the draft for Nia, a win tonight and she has a claim to a WWE Women’s title shot no matter where she ends up. Beth Phoenix also adds that Nia Jax, tomorrow night is also facing Raquel Rodriguez for the NXT Women’s title. Could Nia Jax soon be holding two titles?

*SHAKE SHAKE*

TAYNARA CONTI
comes out next with her WWE Women’s title held high in the air to the delight of the live crowd. She is also joined at the top of the entrance ramp by her tag team partner XIA LI! Corey Graves says this match came about after Nia Jax subbed in for the injured Deonna Purrazzo. Beth Phoenix says we heard from Deonna last week and should be cleared in time for Queen of the Ring, but it is touch and go, wondering if Nia wins, would she get the shot instead? Conti is in the ring, ready for the match to start when…

*THRONE OF GOLD*

DEONNA PURRAZZO
marches out with a smug look on her face and the cast still around her right hand. Taynara Conti takes her eyes off Nia Jax, focusing on her challenger tomorrow night, and this allows Nia Jax to clobber her from behind. Deonna laughs as she makes her way to the commentary desk. Meanwhile, inside the ring, the referee calls for the bell to start the match.

Match 4: Taynara Conti w/Xia Li vs Nia Jax

Match summary:
Deonna takes a seat on commentary and immediately says that is why Conti is going to lose tomorrow night, saying she is too easily distracted. Nia Jax uses the early distraction to her advantage and overpowers Conti, who struggles to stay alive. Deonna says Conti will be lucky if she makes it to the Queen of the Ring at this rate, laughing alone as Nia Jax lays into her with a series of power moves. Conti though, stays alive and starts to target the back of Nia Jax, wearing her down.

Conti is crafty during the match and picks spots where she can either get kicks off the back or locks in submission holds to wear down Nia Jax, even getting her in the TAY LOCK MID-WAY THROUGH! Nia breaks out of it with a SAMOAN DROP! On commentary, Deonna does start to give the champion credit for the brains she is using, but says she would have wrapped this match up by now. Nia Jax gets ready to end this lifting Conti up… BUT CONTI HITS A DD-TAY PLANTING HER! Conti then heads to the corner of the ring and looks at Deonna… HITTING A 450 SPLASH FOR THE VICTORY!

Winner via pinfall: Taynara Conti (8:47)

Taynara Conti gets up to her feet with a smile on her face as she lifts the WWE Women’s title into the air before Xia Li joins her in the ring to celebrate the victory. Corey Graves says Taynara Conti was able to find a way to survive Nia Jax's power and spotted an opportunity to bring the giantess down. Beth Phoenix goes to ask Deonna for her thoughts… BUT SHE SNEAKS INTO THE RING AND SMASHES CONTI IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD USING THE CAST! Xia Li turns around and looks to go after her, but Deonna flees into the crowd, tapping her head as we cut to a commercial break.

Beth Phoenix says Iyo Sky proved she is on the WWE Women’s tag team champions level, defeating her on NXT recently!

The two women get into the ring as Zoey Stark takes the microphone, looking to speak for the challengers. Zoey thanks the fans for their support, not just tonight but over the last few weeks. The crowd gives her a cheap pop before she carries on, saying tomorrow night is the biggest night of her short career, but she has a great tag team partner to help her. Iyo has a slight smirk on her face and says she is a former NXT Champion, soon to be a tag team champion. Zoey is ready to carry on until…

*TURN THE SKY UP*

THE BOSS ‘N’ HUG CONNECTION WALKS OUT WITH MICROPHONES IN HAND! SAHSA BANKS
speaks first, saying tomorrow night is going to be a key lesson in the career for Zoey Stark because she is going to learn what disappointment truly is! BAYLEY says they are true role models to the fans and all the superstars in NXT, drawing a lot of boos from the crowd. Bayley looks at the crowd with disgust and says they are not following her teachings correctly.

Sasha Banks tells her not to worry about it and instead to focus on what is important, as she lifts the WWE Women’s tag team title around her waist into the air. She puts it over her shoulder before pointing at Zoey Stark in the ring, bringing up her victory over her the other week. Iyo Sky takes a microphone for a moment and smirks, saying she beat Bayley, causing the Hugger to throw a fit at the top of the entrance ramp. The crowd cheers with delight and gets behind the confident Japanese superstar.

Iyo Sky says they might have been at the top of the division for years, but it is time for a new future. Bayley snaps back, saying they ran NXT and without the pair of them, there would not be an NXT title worth anything for Iyo Sky to win. Zoey says Bayley has lost her way and blames Sasha, but the Boss shakes her head, saying they are the dynasty of the Women’s tag team division and no team will ever surpass them, promising to keep the titles around their waist tomorrow night, ending the promo!

When we return from the commercial break, we hear the FIREFLY FUNHOUSE theme play before we cut to the inside of the Funhouse as BRAY WYATT stands in the front of the Funhouse before waving at the camera in his Mr Rodgers style jumper with a creepy smile on his face. Corey Graves says Naomi knows the consequences of losing tonight, with Beth Phoenix wondering if it will motivate her or cause her to make a mistake. Lyra Valkyria says she has been watching the Bloodline and is not a fan of their actions, saying she will have no qualms about causing Naomi issues with them. Naomi hops over the ropes, standing across the ring from her former tag team partner Carmella, as the referee calls for the bell to start the match!

Match 5: Queen of the Ring 2nd Round match: Carmella vs Naomi

Match summary:

THE MMA HORSEWOMEN MAKE THEIR WAY OUT INTERRUPTING THE PROMO!
The crowd loudly boos, hating this interruption from the group that has caused chaos and destruction, whichever brand they have been on. NATALYA for once, starts the promo as she tells Belair that she can talk about winning the Queen of the Ring, but she isn’t going to make it out of the quarter finals tomorrow night. The crowd loudly boos, but Natalya tells the live crowd that being a tournament wrestler is in her blood!

Natalya brings up the history of Bret Hart and Owen Hart, being tournament wrestlers who have won the King of the Ring tournament. Belair responds by quipping that doesn’t mean anything and tells Natalya it might be time to focus on achieving success herself. The Queen of Harts looks furious, but Bianca Belair points at Beth Phoenix on the commentary desk, telling Natalya that if she wants advice on how to win a tournament, she’ll ask Natalya’s former tag team partner, bringing a smile to Beth on commentary.

Chad turns to Kurt Angle and puts a hand on his shoulder, thanking his mentor as he says he would have never been in this position if it weren’t for him.

Kurt smiles and thanks Chad for his kind words, but says that Gable just needed to be pointed in the right direction; everything he has fought for, he has earned over the last couple of years. The other members of Alpha Academy chime in to say they have his back and will be on guard if any of the Bloodline try to make their presence felt. Chad thanks them before promising a surprise after the match for Roman Reigns as part of his celebration, before we cut to the final commercial break of the evening.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When we return from the commercial break, Corey Graves confirms that Meiko Satomura will be defending her NXT UK Women’s title on the Queen of the Ring pre-show against Millie McKenzie. Beth Phoenix says this is a huge opportunity for Millie so early in her young career.

*ELITE*

CHAD GABLE
walks out to the ring with KURT ANGLE by his side. Chad Gable gets showered in the signature “You suck” chants that Kurt Angle used to get, leading to a nod between the pair before they head to the ring. Corey Graves says Chad has proven to be a worthy two-time United States Champion under Kurt Angle’s guidance, but can he step up to the next level? Beth Phoenix says Chad is seen by many, even before they joined up together as a young Kurt Angle, but will he live up to his potential against…

*HEAD OF THE TABLE*

ROMAN REIGNS
marches out to the loudest boos of the night! He lifts his Men’s Universal title into the air with his Wiseman PAUL HEYMAN by his side, with his sinister evil smirk. Corey Graves says the power and dominance of the Tribal Chief with the brains of the Wiseman Paul Heyman is a lethal combination. Beth Phoenix says we saw Roman tap out at WrestleMania, maybe Chad Gable will try a similar tactic to secure the victory tonight? Roman stands in the ring, glaring at Chad Gable during the usual announcements before the referee calls for the bell to get the match underway!

Main event: Men’s Universal title match: Roman Reigns w/Paul Heyman © vs Chad Gable w/Kurt Angle

Match summary:
The first couple of minutes of the match are a cagey affair, with neither man wanting this to be over early for them due to a mistake. Chad looks to make sure he stays out of Roman’s powerful grasp and targets the right leg of Reigns, wearing down the Men’s Universal Champion. Roman gets annoyed by this, and when he gets his hands on Chad Gable, he clobbers him in the corner… CHAD COUNTERS BEFORE LOCKING IN A HANGING ARMBAR!

Chad makes full use of the referee’s count as he targets the right arm, wrenching away on it. Chad Gable falls to the outside of the ring with a slight smile and has a chat with Kurt Angle, whilst in the other corner, Heyman talks strategy with Roman Reigns, telling him how to respond to this. Chad Gable gets back into the ring and looks to now also target the right arm, but Roman overpowers Chad Gable, still aiming to slam him around the ring and dominate the match!

Chad Gable struggles to stay alive as Roman puts a beating on the challenger, but Gable keeps getting shots off where he can, locking in submissions as counters any chance he gets and even catches Roman off-guard when he locks him in the LEBELL LOCK! Chad Gable pulls back on the hold, wrenching it back as far as he can, but Roman makes it to the ropes! The damage though, is clearly starting to affect Roman as Chad looks to go for CHAOS THEORY… BUT ROMAN HOLDS ONTO THE ROPES TO BLOCK IT!

Chad Gable stumbles backward and Roman turns around to catch him with the SUPERMAN PUNCH! Roman then heads to the corner of the ring and lines Chad Gable up ready for the SPEAR… CHAD LEAPS OVER IT AND LOCKS IN THE ANKLE LOCK! Chad wrenches back on the leg of Roman, trying to force him to tap out… ROMAN KICKS HIM OFF AND SENDS HIM IN THE ROPES… CHAD BOUNCES BACK INTO A SPEAR! Roman makes the cover 1 2 3 Roman Reigns retains his Men’s Universal title!

Winner via pinfall and still Men’s Universal Champion: Roman Reigns (12:31)

Roman Reigns gets to his feet, with the crowd raining down loud boos, but he doesn’t care, looking at them with a cocky smirk. Paul Heyman makes sure to hand his Tribal Chief the Men’s Universal title personally, as Corey Graves says Chad Gable gave it everything he had but in the end, Roman Reigns was too dominant and remains at the head of SmackDown Live. Beth Phoenix wonders who can stop Roman Reigns and bring him down!

Roman Reigns turns to Chad Gable, struggling on the mat and bends down to start HAMMERING HIM WITH PUNCHES TO THE HEAD! Loud boos from the live crowd, but they soon turn to cheers as BUDDY MURPHY AND DANIEL GARCIA look to make the save… UNTIL THE USOS AND JACOB FATU ATTACK THEM FROM BEHIND! The heat reigns down as The Bloodline take control and are laying a beating on Alpha Academy in the ring and outside it until…

*FLIGHT OF THE VALKYRIES*

DANIEL BRYAN RUNS OUT TO A HUGE POP FROM THE LIVE CROWD!
The crowd goes wild seeing his return and he runs down the entrance ramp, taking down not just The Usos but also taking down Jacob Fatu to huge cheers from the fans! He gets into the ring and comes face to face with Roman Reigns… WHO BAILS TO HUGE BOOS FROM THE LIVE CROWD! SmackDown Live comes to a close with Alpha Academy staring down The Bloodline with Corey Graves hyping up Queen of the Ring and the WWE Draft this weekend!

- Winning and losing matters right? Right? And consequences bring about change...so Naomi if she doesn't pull her weight and she doesn't win Queen of the Ring for The Bloodline...she is out...replaced in The Bloodline. If you remember in real life Solo kicked Jimmy out of The Bloodline after WrestleMania 40 because of him losing against Jey...consequences brought about change and that is when Tama Tonga was introduced into The Bloodline and Jimmy put on the shelf and replaced...if Naomi doesn't win, Roman kicks her out but can easily replace her with another family member but who? Nia Jax perhaps as she attacks Naomi and takes her out but then if that happens, Jimmy may as well be out too if that happens because he is always going to be by his wife's side so there is that

- Or Roman can just as well kick both Naomi and Tamina out of The Bloodline for not having gold...and then no replacements but just the remaining members would be Roman, The Usos and Jacob only with Heyman as The Wise Man

- Roman Reigns retains the WWE Universal Championship once again beating yet another Alpha Academy member in the main event as he beats Chad Gable. I mean Gable did push Reigns to the limit but The Tribal Chief was just too much. Reigns wanting to make a statement post match by attacking Gable only for Murphy and Garcia to try to make the save for their teammate only for them to be intercepted by The Usos and Jacob Fatu from behind. Then Daniel Bryan making the ultimate save for Gable only for Reigns to run off in retreat.

- It is clear to me that we probably get Reigns/Bryan again for the title

- Ember Moon for me is definitely a Queen of the Ring tournament dark horse not to mention she's already Ms Money in the Bank so can you imagine she wins this tournament and gets a shot at the title? Then she fails in her title shot only to cash in her briefcase literally right after as insurance...but she has to get through Liv Morgan and what a match that ends up being

- By Lyra Valkyria beating Kay Lee Ray in the Queen of the Ring tournament... that basically puts Lyra in line for an NXT UK Women's Championship match

- It looks like Sasha & Bayley both as WWE Women's Tag Team Champions have basically turned heel in a sense and it was bound to happen sooner or later so seeing them turn now to defend their titles against Iyo Sky & Zoey Stark makes sense

- Bianca Belair has to get through Natalya and Natalya being in one of these tournaments is her literal birthright being a Hart...both her uncles Bret and Owen both won King of the Ring...Bret twice and Owen once so if anyone can win this; it is Natalya...she's a veteran

News update:

Alexis Falcon and Xia Brookside accept the challenge from Blackheart Witches for the QOTR Pre-show.

It has been confirmed on the Queen of the Ring pre-show that Alexis Falcon and Xia Brookside from NXT UK will be answering the challenge issued by the Blackhearted Witches. It should be noted that Alexis Falcon normally teams with Lyra Valkyria, but with her tag team partner in the quarter finals of the Queen of the Ring, Alexis will be teaming with their mutual friend Xia Brookside instead.

Queen of the Ring Recap

Women’s Universal title match:
Rhea Ripley © vs Charlotte Flair

When Rhea Ripley won the Women’s 2021 Royal Rumble, everyone was expecting her to have to fight Charlotte Flair to dethrone her as Women’s Universal Champion. Fate would have other plans, and Charlotte Flair would pick up an injury, forcing her to vacate the title. Rhea would carry on her march to the gold and instead dethrone Shayna Baszler to become Women’s Universal Champion. Rhea Ripley would successfully defend her title against Alexa Bliss at Backlash before Charlotte Flair would make her return, attacking Ripley!

Charlotte Flair would make her intentions clear if they were not already: she wanted her Women’s Universal title back, feeling she never lost it. Ripley and Flair would bring up their previous encounters, with Rhea Ripley retaining her NXT Women’s title in a triple threat match against Flair and Belair. However, one-on-one at Queen of the Ring, Charlotte Flair would eliminate Ripley in the quarter finals. Will Charlotte be victorious at Queen of the Ring again, or will Ripley show she is the future?

WWE Women’s title match:
Taynara Conti © vs Deonna Purrazzo

The Brazilian Badass Taynara Conti had managed to shock the world when she became WWE Women’s Champion on the grandest stage of them all, pinning Asuka. She has proven to be a fighting champion, but she now faces a very different challenge to what she has faced so far: a fast-rising star whose technical ability is unmatched: Deonna Purrazzo. The former NXT Women’s Champion became a member of the SmackDown roster after losing her NXT title to Raquel Rodriguez.

She would make an impact, going unbeaten and earning a WWE Women’s title match tonight after winning a fatal 4-way on the Armageddon pre-show. Deonna Purrazzo would be very cocky and dismissive of Conti; however, Deonna would pick up a hand injury in the lead-up to the PPV. Deonna would use Nia Jax to do her dirty work, fighting Xia Li and Conti for her before attacking the WWE Women’s Champion from behind last night, revealing the injury is healed. Who will walk out of the WWE Women’s title this Saturday?

Women’s tag team titles match:
Boss ‘N’ Hug Connection © vs Iyo Sky and Zoey Stark

The Bioss ‘N’ Hug Connection have proved in 2020 and 2021 why they are seen as the pinnacle of the WWE Women’s tag team division, ruling atop with an iron fist and becoming the longest reigning champions in the short history of the titles. They, however, have started to have the fans turn against them due to how Bayley and Banks are keeping the titles around their waist, with Bayley seemingly getting more and more desperate as of late when defending their titles.

Iyo Sky and Zoey Stark, meanwhile, would be putting on impressive performances as a team down in NXT, earning a title shot at Queen of the Ring. Iyo would also have all the eyes on her when she defeated Bayley on NXT in a huge upset. Bayley would be furious at this, and Sasha Banks would make it clear there will be no repeats. Iyo is a former NXT Women’s Champion, but can she lead Zoey Stark to her first WWE gold, or will the Boss ‘N’ Hug Connections show why they are the role models of the entire division?

Queen of the Ring quarter-final:
Lyra Valkyria vs Naomi

Lyra Valkyria's path to the quarter finals:
Defeated Mia Yim in the 1st round
Defeated Kay Lee Ray in the 2nd round

Lyra Valkyria:
Lyra is not a name many people would have expected to make the quarter finals of the tournament on paper when looking at the bracket. Lyra though, has been quietly making a name for herself on NXT UK. She has proven she can hang with the best though, especially defeating Kay Lee Ray, who held the NXT UK Women’s title for over 500 days. Lyra has been trained by Becky Lynch herself; can she do something the Man hasn’t and become the Queen of the Ring?

Naomi's path to the quarter finals:
Defeated Xia Brookside in the 1st round
Defeated Carmella in the 2nd round

Naomi:
Naomi has had a new attitude ever since she returned from injury last year and became part of the Bloodline. However, this change has not seen gold come Naomi’s way, even with several title opportunities. Roman Reigns would make his anger at these losses apparent and Naomi came into the Queen of the Ring tournament under pressure. Naomi would knock out NXT UK’s Xia Brookside and then former Women’s Champion Carmella to make the quarters. Will Naomi bring the Queen of the Ring title back to the Bloodline, or will Naomi face Roman’s wrath?

Queen of the Ring quarter-final:
Bianca Belair vs Natalya

Bianca Belair's path to the quarter finals:
Defeated Stevie Turner in the 1st round
Defeated Alexa Bliss in the 2nd round

Bianca Belair:
The E.S.T. comes into this tournament as a lot of people’s favourite to win the entire thing. Many fans believe she is on the verge of breaking out as a top superstar and becoming a Women’s Champion. So far in the tournament, she has faced smaller and more aerial-based wrestlers, but now she faces one of the MMA Horsewomen, Natalya, a submission specialist. Will Bianca Belair live up to the expectations surrounding her, or will she miss out on glory once again?

Natalya's path to the quarter finals:
Defeated Piper Niven in the 1st round
Defeated Emma in the 2nd round

Natalya:
The Queen of Harts enters the tournament with the advantage of coming from a family with a history of winning tournaments. Bret Hart and Owen Hart are former King of the Ring winners and Natalya feels winning is in her blood. She caused an upset in the 1st round, eliminating the bigger Piper Niven before putting away a crafty veteran, Emma in the last 16. Now she faces what is seen as the favourite to win the whole thing. Can Natalya carry on the family legacy and win the same tournament her former tag team partner, Beth Phoenix won last year?

Queen of the Ring quarter-final:
Toni Storm vs Shayna Baszler

Toni Storm's path to the quarter finals:
Defeated Marina Shafir in the 1st round
Defeated Ruby Riott in the 2nd round

Toni Storm: Toni Storm is someone who has been slowly making a name for herself on NXT and NXT UK! Toni became the 2nd ever NXT UK Women’s Champion, defeating Rhea Ripley, and since losing the belt to Kay Lee Ray, she has come to NXT, impressing as part of a tag team with her fellow Aussie Emma. She has shown her quality by beating two Raw superstars to make the quarters, but now she faces a two-time Women’s Champion in Shayna Baszler. Can Toni Storm pull off a huge upset and show it is Toni time?

Shayna Baszler's path to the quarter finals:
Defeated Mandy Rose in the 1st round
Defeated Tegan Nox in the 2nd round

Shayna Baszler:
Shayna Baszler, since coming to WWE, has been a destructive force, winning the NXT, Women’s Universal and tag team titles twice throughout her career so far. She comes into the Queen of the Ring determined to get back into the Women’s title picture after losing to Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania 37 and she has already broken Mandy Rose’s arm! Will anyone be able to stop Shayna Baszler, or is she going to keep the MMA Horsewomen on top?

Queen of the Ring quarter-final:
Ember Moon vs Liv Morgan

Ember Moon's path to the quarter finals:
Defeated Xia Li in the 1st round
Defeated Dani Luna in the 2nd round

Ember Moon:
Ember Moon comes into this tournament holding the Money in the Bank briefcase and her own Women’s title shot locked up. Ember however, wants a 2nd and has talked about her plans to walk out of Summerslam with both belts when she wins Queen of the Ring. The only person who has been able to stop her as of late is Bianca Belair, who is a potential opponent in the final. Will Ember add the Queen of the Ring to her stellar 2021?

Liv Morgan's path to the quarter finals:
Defeated Tamina in the 1st round
Defeated Franky Monet in the 2nd round

Liv Morgan:
Liv Morgan had a rough 2020 after a promising 2019, picking up an injury, meaning she missed the 2nd half of the year. She would return during the 2021 Royal Rumble and would link back up with her former tag team partner Ruby Riott, with both women getting the fans behind them in recent times. Liv has yet to hold gold in WWE. Can she break out and become the Queen of the Ring?

Pre-show:

NXT Women’s title match:
Raquel Rodriguez © vs Nia Jax

Nia Jax has been doing the dirty work for Charlotte Flair and Deonna Purrazzo on Raw and SmackDown respectively, but she has also been busy on NXT. Taking advantage of the looser terms of the brand split within the Women’s division in the lead-up to the Queen of the Ring, she has been attacking Raquel Rodriguez and making it clear she wants her title. Raquel, ignoring the advice of Robert Stone, has accepted the challenge from her fellow giantess and put her title on the line tonight. Who will win when these two giantesses collide?

NXT UK Women’s title match:
Meiko Satomura © vs Millie McKenzie

Millie McKenzie on SmackDown issued a challenge to Meiko Satomura, saying she wanted to test herself against the Final Boss of NXT UK. Millie makes it clear she might be young, but she knows she can hang with a legend of the business. Meiko has proven to be near unstoppable since coming to NXT UK. Can Millie pull off a huge upset, or will the Final Boss stay atop NXT UK?

Tag team match:
The Blackhearted Witches vs Alexis Falcon and Xia Brookside

The Blackhearted Witches formed two weeks ago on Raw, with Shotzi Blackheart feeling like she had been replaced by Ruby Riott with Liv Morgan. KiLynn King has been dominant since joining Raw and the pair issued a challenge to any NXT UK team to prove their strength as a team. Alexis Falcon and Xia Brookside accepted the challenge, with Alexis’s normal tag team partner busy for the evening in the Queen of the Ring. Will the Blackhearted Witches carry on their dominant performances, or will they fall at the first real hurdle?

I made my predictions already but to answer the last 2 questions:

No Ember Moon cash in at Queen of the Ring

And the male superstar going to rehab from Smackdown is probably Buddy Murphy

O

Oh okay but in that case I would have Naomi face Liv Morgan and beat Liv Morgan anyway to get to the Final and Shayna Baszler probably losing her matchup and then Natalya getting to the semis and losing which sets up Naomi perfectly for the Final because I have her winning the whole thing

BACK FROM THE DEAD – HALESTORM

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first segment of the Queen of the Ring pre-show we focus on sees NATALYA sitting in a chair backstage, across the room from Cathy Kelley, who thanks her for agreeing to this interview. Natalya says Cathy is lucky that she plans on being a gracious queen, prompting a slight eye roll from the interviewer. She asks Natalya if there is any extra pressure coming into this tournament, considering her family’s history of winning previous King of the Rings tournaments.

Natalya says there is no pressure because she knows what she needs to do to become Queen of the Ring. She says winning tournaments like this is one of the first things you learn in the dungeon, and even references David Hart Smith in NXT UK winning the Heritage Cup in a tournament last year. Cathy points out that she caused a shock, beating Piper Niven, but Natalya shakes her head, saying the fans only thought she would lose because they want her to lose.

Natalya came into the match with a plan and chopped her down like a tree. Cathy follows on from that, asking Nattie if she had a plan for Emma and Natalya nods, saying when you come into this environment, you have to look at their previous matches to see what body part is the best to target, what’s going to break first. Cathy asks about Bianca Belair and her plan for the E.S.T., but Natalya shakes her head, saying she has no intention of giving away her plans before the bell rings.

Cathy then changes the conversation to Shayna Baszler and brings up the fact that if Natalya makes the final, she might have to fight Shayna Baszler. Natalya has a slightly worried look on her face at first, but collects herself for a moment and says they practice in training with one another all the time. Lastly, Cathy Kelley asks how she feels about Beth Phoenix crowning the winner. Natalya gets nasty and says she helped to end the career of Beth, so there is nothing she can think of better as a cherry on top of that than taking Beth’s Queen of the Ring crown for herself.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We next cut to one of the locker rooms, showing the WWE Women’s tag team champions THE BOSS ‘N’ HUG CONNECTION, getting ready for their tag team title match later tonight. SASHA BANKS seems cool, calm and collected ahead of their defence tonight, whilst BAYLEY looks very nervous and on edge. Sasha turns to her tag team partner and looks at her, shaking her head, asking why Bayley is still worried. Bayley brings up her loss to Iyo Sky on NXT a few weeks ago, but Sasha says this time she will have her in the ring with her to help.

Bayley says she knows, but brings up the recent losses she has had over the last few months, pointing out that she has been a weak link lately. Sasha says if Bayley is worried, she is going to turn on her, but Bayley says she is worried about letting Sasha down. The Boss says that her best friend won’t let her down because she is going to do whatever it takes to win. Bayley nods as Sasha points out that they are already the longest reigning tag team champions in history, and tonight they get to put an even bigger exclamation mark on it!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We then cut back to another sit-down interview as CATHY KELLEY this time, has TONI STORM across the room from her. The NXT superstar has a big smile on her face in her red and black rocker-style jacket. She has a pair of sunglasses on as Cathy thanks Toni for agreeing to the interview. Toni is full of praise for Cathy and excitedly tells her it is her pleasure to be in this spot, with a chance to become Queen of the Ring! Cathy says Toni has been wrestling for a long time before even coming to the WWE.

Toni nods and says she was born in Australia but grew up in the United Kingdom, fighting all over the country and trying to take it by storm. She smiles at her own pun with Cathy, bringing up her time in NXT UK and her defeating Rhea Ripley to become NXT UK Women’s Champion. Toni is full of praise for the Women’s Universal Champion, saying she had to throw everything she had at Ripley to bring her down, but if she wins this whole tournament, she would gladly fight the Nightmare one more time!

Cathy brings up her tag team partner Emma and Storm says she has been learning from Emma, who to quote her friend, has been teaching her based on the mistakes she made during her first run in WWE. Toni says she has also been giving her some advice on how to escape from submissions. This brings Cathy to her final question as she brings up Toni’s quarter-final opponent: Shayna Baszler. She asks Toni Storm how she feels stepping into the ring with someone who has terrorised WWE for the last 4 years.

Toni is a little bit nervous and gulps slightly, pointing out that Shayna has already injured one of her opponents in this tournament. Toni says everyone has seen the lengths Shayna Baszler is willing to go to, but that means Toni will have to fight even harder to become the Queen of the Ring. Cathy asks her if she has a plan for Shayna and the Aussie thinks for a moment before joking that she is going to hit her really hard. She says if that doesn’t work, she has another plan in mind, too.

Tag team match:
The Blackhearted Witches vs Alexis Falcon and Xia Brookside

Match summary:
Alexis Falcon and Xia Brookside do their best in this match, looking to show off and impress with the draft tomorrow night, but they are outmatched thanks to the power of KiLynn King and Shotzi’s cunning. The Blackhearted Witches pick up the win thanks to KiLynn King hitting Xia with KING’S CURSE followed by the BALL PIT from Shotzi Blackheart!

Winners via pinfall: The Blackhearted Witches (3:52)

The crowd boos loudly as The Blackhearted Witches celebrate their second victory as a tag team. Michael Cole gives them credit for how they performed tonight, but Beth Phoenix does point out that they were facing a team that hasn’t wrestled together on a regular basis. Nigel McGunniess adds you can only beat what is in front of you as the celebrations carry on in the ring… LIV MORGAN AND RUBY RIOTT RUN OUT TO CHEERS FROM THE LIVE CROWD HITTING THEM WITH KENDO STICKS!

The pair go wild on the Blackhearted Witches, looking to get some payback for the attack two weeks ago. They lay into the duo, who end up running out of the ring and fleeing up the entrance ramp with scowls on their face. Michael Cole says the Riott Squad caught the Blackhearted Witches by surprise with this attack, with Beth Phoenix saying that the Blackhearted Witches are getting a taste of their own medicine. Nigel McGunniess chimes in to say two wrongs don’t make a right and that Liv should be focusing on her Queen of the Ring match later tonight!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We next cut to the room from earlier, as this time it is EMBER MOON sitting in a room with CATHY KELLEY. Ember has the Money in the Bank briefcase on her lap and a cocky smirk on her face before Cathy starts the interview off. Cathy thanks her for coming to this interview, but Ember laughs saying of course, she had to come as the future WWE Women’s and Women’s Universal Champion. Cathy says that it is a bit cocky from Ember, but Mrs Money in the Bank scoffs, saying she is just stating facts!

Cathy says it has been a great year for Ember, with her making the final four of the Royal Rumble and winning Mrs Money in the Bank, but she has suffered some losses too. This makes Ember scowl and ask Cathy what she means by that. Cathy brings up her loss to Bianca Belair at Armageddon, which makes Ember furious and she tells the interviewer that Belair cheated her out of the victory that night, promising that if Belair makes it to the final, she will beat her!

Cathy says Ember would first have to get past Liv Morgan, but there is a slight smirk from Ember. Mrs Money in the Bank says Liv hasn’t won a single title in her time in WWE, whilst she has become an NXT and WWE Women’s Champion plus she holds this, showing off the briefcase again. She taps it and says no matter what happens tonight, she has a chance to walk out of Queen of the Ring, a champion ending the interview early as she walks off, leaving Cathy annoyed.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We next see the commissioners for Raw, SmackDown and NXT in a room talking to each other ahead of tomorrow night’s draft. The door flies open as WADE BARRETT, SHAWN MICHAELS and WILLIAM REGAL all turn around to see THE BLACKHEARTED WITCHES storm into the room with a furious look on their faces. SHOTZI BLACKHEART demands punishment for the Riott Squad for what they did earlier tonight, but Wade says they can’t punish them because they don’t know which brand they will be on after tomorrow.

Shawn Michaels also points out that the duo was just getting payback after they attacked them on Raw two weeks ago. KILYNN KING steps forward and says she will just have to punish them herself. Regal shakes his head, saying they won’t and to avoid any further brawling on tonight’s show, they are sending them home. The witches kick off furious at the ruling, but Barrett tells them if they want to be drafted to a brand, they better do what they say. They both scowl, but Shotzi leads King elsewhere, ending the segment.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We cut back to the interview room as NAOMI is now sitting across the room from CATHY KELLEY! She looks annoyed and fed up, just nodding when Cathy thanks her for agreeing to this interview. Cathy starts by asking Naomi about her status within the Bloodline, which noticeably makes Naomi scrunch up her face in anger. She says he is still a member of the Bloodline and always will be, saying she and her husband Jimmy have spoken to Roman in private about his words last night.

Cathy asks what was said, but Naomi says it was a private discussion. Noami adds that the expectations within the Bloodline have been made clear to her. Cathy presses and asks what those are, with Naomi saying it is simple: she is expected to win Queen of the Ring by any means necessary. Cathy says that it is easier said than done with a stacked field, and Naomi nods, but makes it clear that if you are part of The Bloodline, you are expected to be the best of the best.

Cathy asks Naomi how much she knows about Lyra Valkyria from NXT UK. Naomi takes a moment before admitting she hasn’t seen a lot of her. She says this doesn’t mean she hasn’t done some scouting when learning she was fighting the Irish superstar tonight. Naomi admits Lyra is very talented and has a lot of potential, but no one is getting in her way. Cathy looks to finish the interview by again finding out the consequences for losing tonight, but Naomi walks away, ending the interview as we cut back to the ring for the 2nd match on the pre-show.

NXT UK Women’s title match:
Meiko Satomura © vs Millie McKenzie

Match summary:
Millie comes out of the gate looking to lay into the champion with a series of hard kicks and peppers Meiko Satomura with vicious blows. The Final Boss looks to weather the storm and survive the blows from Millie before taking control of the match, firing off a series of strikes of her own. Millie is the one who now has to survive due to the damage done to her throughout the match. As the match reaches the middle stages, we can see Millie is struggling to keep up with the champion!

She tries to go for a different tactic and looks to go for his signature suplexes… BUT MIEKO HAS DONE HER HOMEWORK AND COUNTERS MILLIE MCKENIZE! The young superstar is on the back foot, and she knows it, trying with everything she has left to try to finish off the champion. In the end, Meiko fights off one desperate last flurry from Millie and plants her with a DEATH VALLEY BOMB! Meiko makes the cover, and the Final Boss retains!

Winner via pinfall and still NXT UK Women’s Champion: Meiko Satomura (12:05)

The crowd cheers and shows both women respect for the bout they just put on with one another. Michael Cole says this was his first time watching Meiko Satomura and he is impressed. Nigel McGuinness adds that even running the Final Boss close is an impressive feat, and Millie has a bright future. Beth Phoenix says Millie should learn a lesson from this loss. Millie is back on her feet as Meiko approaches her and offers a handshake… WHICH MILLIE ACCEPTS! The two women lift their arms into the air before we cut elsewhere backstage.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We see SHAYNA BASZLER sitting with her signature leather and sunglasses, with a cocky smile on her face, with CATHY KELLEY ready for another interview. Cathy thanks Shayna for the interview, which gets a smile and a no problem from her. Cathy starts by praising the level of success that Shayna has managed to achieve since coming to the WWE: 2-time NXT Women’s Champion, 2-time Women’s Universal title and 2-time WWE Women’s tag team champion.

Shayna smirks and tells Cathy that part of being in the MMA Horsewomen is being a winner. She says this is why they removed Ronda Rousey; she had gotten soft and became a weak loser. Cathy counters that Ronda had not gotten weak; she had gotten pregnant and needed time off to give birth. Shayna shakes her head, saying the rot had started long before then and Shayna was proven right in her actions, becoming Women’s Universal Champion shortly after.

Cathy brings up her last Women’s Universal title reign, where she was defeated at WrestleMania 37 by Rhea Ripley, bringing a slight scowl to Shayna’s face. Shayna says the only reason Ripley still has the title is that she has not been granted a rematch for her title! Shayna says as soon as she wins Queen of the Ring, she is coming back for what is hers and will be a 3-time Women’s Champion. Cathy then brings up her quarter-final opponent Toni Storm, someone the MMA Horsewomen have never faced.

Shayna says Toni is someone who has been doing well in NXT, but she is stepping up to a different level when she steps into the ring with her. Shayna makes it clear that she won’t be just going for the win; she will be looking to break Toni Storm. Cathy shakes her head but stays quiet before finishing the interview by mentioning that if Shayna gets to the final, she could face her partner, one of the MMA Horsewomen Natalya. Shayna smiles and says, "May the best woman win”, ending the interview.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We then cut to the backstage area as RUBY RIOTT walks out of a locker room and is stopped by KAYLA BRAXTON, looking for an interview! Kayla asks Ruby about why they chose to attack the Blackhearted Witches tonight when Liv Morgan has potentially the biggest night of her career. Ruby says it was Liv’s idea because she knew that the Blackhearted Witches were not going to be expecting it and we wanted to get some revenge on them.

Ruby also tells Kayla they might have to wait a while for payback, depending on where the two of them end up in tomorrow’s draft. Kayla then changes the subject back to Liv and asks Ruby how she feels about Liv being in the quarter finals. Ruby says she is proud of her friend and that the mistakes she has made have had an impact on both their careers, setting them both back. She hopes Liv Morgan goes all the way and promises to be there to celebrate with her when she becomes Queen!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We cut backstage as CATHY KELLEY is sitting down, ready for an interview with LYRA VALKYRIA sitting across from her with a big smile on her face. Cathy thanks Lyra for agreeing to the interview with the Irish Superstar, saying it is her pleasure to be here. Cathy starts by mentioning her history, having been trained by Finn Balor and Becky Lynch, which brings a smile to Lyra’s face. She says that not only has Becky Lynch been her trainer over the years, but she has also been a truly great friend.

Lyra says she has always gone to The Man when she has needed advice and she has even been able to see her newborn daughter. The NXT UK superstar says one of her career goals is to get the chance to face her friend in the ring and test herself against the best there is. Cathy comments that Becky is still at home being a mum, but Lyra says if she were to win the WWE or Universal Women’s title, the first person she would challenge is her friend Becky.

Cathy goes on to discuss her time in NXT UK, having joined the brand within the last year. She says Lyra has been impressing people in the singles division and in the tag team division as well with Alexis Falcon. Lyra says NXT UK has some of the best in the world, and she has her sights on Meiko Satomura, planning to be the one to defeat the Final Boss. She says they even have their sights on the WWE Women’s tag team titles, no matter who walks out as the tag team champions tonight.

Cathy Kelley then asks Lyra for her thoughts on Naomi, whom she will face in the quarter finals. Lyra says Naomi is a 2-time Women’s champion and someone she watched a lot before coming to the WWE, liking her style and her attitude. She says she is disappointed in how Naomi has been acting as of late and the influence of the Bloodline on her. Lyra says maybe she can knock some sense into her. Cathy ends the interview, wishing Lyra luck with the Irish superstar, smiling and thanking her before we cut to the ring for the final match of the pre-show.

NXT Women’s title match:
Raquel Rodriguez w/Robert Stone © vs Nia Jax

Match summary:
Nia Jax and Raquel come into this match with one goal in mind: throwing everything they have power-wise at the other woman. Neither is here for a long time and it turns into a full-on hoss fight in the middle of the ring. Outside the ring, Robert constantly tries to get Raquel to slow it down or even cheats with Raquel stopping him from doing so, nearly costing her the match. However, in the end, Raquel shows her power off and plants Nia Jax with the TEJANA BOMB! Raquel makes the cover and retains her NXT title!

Winner via pinfall and still NXT Women’s Champion: Raquel Rodriguez (6:01)

Raquel gets to her feet, getting a loud pop from the fans, impressed with her displays of strength throughout the match. Robert Stone enters the ring and the rest of the Robert Stone Brand (Chelsea Green and Aliyah) join Raquel in the ring to carry on their celebrations. The commentary team is full of praise for the NXT Women’s Champion and wonders what is next for her with Nigel McGunniness hyping up the upcoming NXT Takeover event In Your House next week before we cut elsewhere backstage.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We see BIANCA BELAIR sitting down in front of CATHY KELLEY, who welcomes Belair with a smile. Belair shakes her hand and says she is glad to be here. Cathy is full of praise for the year Belair has had since coming to SmackDown Live from NXT. Belair confidently smiles and nods, saying that everything she has done is what she expects out of herself. She calls herself the E.S.T. not out of confidence but because she knows that she is the fastest, strongest and the best in the world!

Cathy says a lot of other superstars would be disliked by the WWE Universe for that kind of confidence, bringing a smile to Belair’s face. She says the reason they love her is that she has never pretended to be anything else but herself. She has never asked the fans to like her, but they have chosen to and that’s by staying true to herself every time she steps into the ring. Cathy brings up one of her few losses on SmackDown: Asuka, which gets a quiet nod from Belair.

Belair pauses for a moment before saying she knew when she stepped into the ring with Asuka, it would be her biggest challenge yet, and she fell short. She tells Cathy that loss was a lesson and she knows if she steps into the ring with Asuka again, she will find a way to defeat her. Cathy brings up the talk of a lot of people labelling Bianca the favourite to win the entire tournament and asks Belair if that adds any pressure. Belair shakes her head, saying she doesn’t because she has already been putting the pressure on herself.

Bianca Belair knows she is great enough to win the Queen of the Ring tournament and there is no one who can stop her! Cathy Kelley brings up the rivalry she has had since the summer with Mrs Money in the Bank, Ember Moon and points out they might meet in the final if both make it that far. Belair shakes her head and says she has lost count of the number of times she has kicked Ember Moon’s ass. She says if they meet in the final, she’ll just do it again!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We cut elsewhere backstage to see DEONNA PURRAZZO doing her final warm-ups when she is approached by KAYLA BRAXTON for an interview. Kayla asks Deonna how she is feeling ahead of her WWE Women’s title match to open Queen of the Ring. Deonna says everyone is talking about the tournament and someone else’s crowning moment; however tonight is going to be all about hers. Deonna says she has been outsmarting her every step of the way into the lead-up to tonight.

Kayla brings up the hand injury that Deonna suffered in the build-up to the match and notices that there is no longer a cast on her right hand. Purrazzo says her right hand has been totally healed and she made sure she was in pristine shape for her title fight. She jokes that Conti has meanwhile been putting herself into danger by being a “fighting champion”. Deonna promises to snap the arms of Conti and the only one able to hold the WWE Women’s title into the air is herself.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We cut elsewhere backstage for the final segment of the pre-show to see CATHY KELLEY ready for an interview with LIV MORGAN! Cathy thanks her for agreeing to the interview, which gets a smile and a no problem from Liv in response. Cathy comments on 2021 already being a better year for Liv than 2020, which brings a wry smile to Liv’s face. Liv says it was a tough year for her, but she learned a lot from her struggles as she recovered from injury, and it gave her the strength to finally become a champion in 2021.

Cathy Kelley brings back her return and the loud cheers she got from the fans when she entered the Royal Rumble. Liv says it brought a smile to her face to get that much love from the WWE Universe, and she will prove to be worthy of their love, saying she will be a champion. Cathy then changes the subject to her friendship with Ruby Riott being rekindled and the Riott Squad being reformed. Liv smiles slightly and jokes that they are still missing one member, but it feels good to be back together with Ruby.

Cathy asks if it was easy to trust Ruby again and Liv responds honestly, shaking her head. She says it took her time to realize that Ruby actually did regret her actions, especially with how much they hurt in the first place. Liv sighs and says she didn’t at first want to risk getting hurt again. Cathy replies asking what changed her mind and Liv says you can’t live life properly without taking risks. Liv says Shotzi could not accept that Ruby had other friends and it led to her pushing away Ruby cause she could not risk getting hurt.

Cathy asks if Liv is hoping to end up on the same brand as the Blackhearted Witches and she nods, saying yes. Liv says she will have some time before she can use her Women’s title shot at Summerslam, so she wants to get her full payback on the witches. Cathy brings up her first-round opponent, Ember Moon asking how Liv feels facing Mrs Money in the Bank. A slight smirk appears on Liv’s face, and she says she relishes the chance to beat her, wondering if she might get a chance to fight for Ember’s briefcase too before Cathy wraps up the interview, thanking Liv for her time tonight.

I definitely can't wait for the Draft because I wanna see which superstars go where in this Draft but also wonder if superstars from NXT and NXT UK will be eligible to be drafted?

But also wanna see if certain groups stay together or are broken up in this Draft

Loved Natalya bringing up her family's history in tournaments because her uncles Bret & Owen both won King of the Ring...Bret did twice and Owen once but also Natalya bringing up her cousin David Hart Smith winning a Heritage Cup...so the Hart family is synonymous with winning but that is added pressure on Nattie to win it all essentially

Naomi basically has to win Queen of the Ring because if she doesn't...she's out...excommunicated from the Bloodline so she has the most pressure out of anybody to win this whole thing

Bianca Belair to me considering the white hot push she was on...it is like that got derailed...first she fails to win the title coming up short and then losing the Women's Royal Rumble Match and then she gets stuck in a program at WrestleMania with a celebrity and teaming with them and then she ends up being shafted time after time and honestly I'm just tired of waiting for her to win the big one because I don't see it ever happening...especially when she should be a main event waiting to happen

Toni Storm she's a wild card
