WSW Ignition: 2019 Grand Prix Night One (Episode 204)
ICG_word_gradient-768x138.png
Promotion: World Series Wrestling
Date: August 15, 2019
City: Houston, TX
Venue: NRG Arena
Attendance: 5,800

The 8/15 Ignition opened with a video package, set to No Regrets by KSHMR, the official theme of the 2019 Grand Prix.

The music started slow and cinematic – building strings with ambient echoes. Mauro Ranallo’s voice narrated the piece:

Tonight, the tournament of tournaments begins. There is no feeling quite like it...everything is on the line.

A dark, empty arena is shown. The arena lights illuminate. Crews setting up the ring. Slow-motion shots of turnbuckles being tightened and ropes being pulled taut are featured.

We hear the voice of AJ Styles, and the camera cuts to a sit-down interview:

There’s no real way of describing what it’s like to win the Grand Prix. The stakes, the competition, the physical toll...it’s all very real.

There’s no way to formulate the words of pride and emotion that comes with claiming that trophy and knowing that you are going to main event November Reign. Understanding that and feeling that...I want to win this thing again so bad.

As AJ speaks, we see highlights of last year’s tournament and AJ lifting the 2018 trophy – fans screaming in the background.

Mauro Ranallo’s narration is heard again:

The nerves, the moment, the noise, the frenzy...this is where legends are made.

Rapid cut highlights are shown: Ospreay flipping off the ropes, Castagnoli hitting a European uppercut, Bandido raising his arms in triumph.

We next hear the voice of Kenny Omega. We see his sit-down interview along with visuals of him landing V-Triggers and raising the World Title belt high:

To me, the greatest professional wrestlers in history are the ones that excel in tournament environments. Not just the ability to win, but the ability to stack wins – week after week; round after round. That takes incredible physical and mental ability. It takes skill and strategy. I consider myself the greatest tournament wrestler on the planet...I also understand that no reigning WSW World Champion has ever won the Grand Prix. That’s ground that I want to break.

The voice of Will Ospreay is heard, and we see visuals of him collapsing after a match, roaring in defiance, pacing alone backstage, tightening his wrist tape in silence.

The Grand Prix...this is everything. There is no tomorrow for me. I have shoved all my chips in...I have bled, I have broken bones, I have traveled thousands of miles all by myself to chase greatness. I NEED this.

Mauro’s narration:

One move. One moment. Three seconds. That’s all it takes to etch your name into the annals of greatness.

Pulsing highlights are show – mat slaps, crowd gasps, and referees sliding into position. We hear the sound of an arena counting: 1.....2.......3.

For the next five weeks, twelve men are grouped into two blocks. Inside the blocks, wrestlers will compete in round-robin action. Each match will be contested under a twenty-minute time limit. Two points for a win. One for a draw. None for a defeat.

The wrestler with the highest point total in each block will advance to the Grand Prix Finals...September 21st at the legendary Cow Palace.

Drone shots of the Cow Palace are shown, the California sun setting in the background.

Ricochet is featured next. We see him training alone in a gym:

I’d be lying to you if I told you that I was satisfied with my career. I’m certainly happy and grateful for the stage I’ve been given, but I have the biggest of big dreams.

I want to be World Champion. I want to be the name and the face that this company is built around.

I don’t just want to be known as Ricochet, the amazing athlete...I want to be known as Ricochet, the best professional wrestler in the world.

Mauro’s narration:

The winner of the Grand Prix earns a main event World Championship shot at the biggest show in WSW’s history...November Reign. November 30th. Madison Square Garden.

A drone shot of Madison Square Garden is shown, the towering skyline of New York City in the background.

Adam Cole is featured. We see highlights of him superkicking opponents and hitting the Last Shot.

:Let me make one thing crystal clear.

I am the original rebel. I am the pioneer. And as far as I’m concerned...I’m the face of the wrestling revolution. I will stop at NOTHING to win the Grand Prix.

MY name was the rocket fuel WSW needed, and it is my God-given right to have my name on the marquee of Madison Square Garden.

Claudio Castagnoli is featured. We see highlights of him winning the WSW World Championship in 2015, transitioning to highlights of him brutalizing opponents with uppercuts, gutwrench suplexes, and Ricola Bombs.

I was the first ever WSW World Champion. And the day I lost that title...my soul died. For four years, I’ve chased that feeling – that taste of immortality. I don’t care how many broken bodies I must leave behind. I need that belt to feel alive again.

Jon Moxley is featured. We see him walking down a dark hallway. We see close ups of his scarred knuckles.

The time for talking is over. This tournament is a no bullshit meat grinder.

Best on best....

I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I promised to set the world on fire...just watch what happens next.

A spotlight shines on the Grand Prix trophy sitting in the middle of an empty ring. Mauro’s narration is heard one final time:

Twelve men. Two blocks. One winner and a date with destiny at Madison Square Garden.

This...

Is the 2019 Grand Prix!

The video package ends with the last note of No Regrets. The camera then hard cuts inside the NRG Arena where pyro EXPLODES on stage.

The camera sweeps the sold-out crowd, as our commentary duo of Mauro Ranallo and Chael Sonnen welcome us to the show:

Mauro Ranallo: Welcome to WSW Ignition! Welcome to Houston, Texas! And WELCOME to the 2019 Grand Prix!

Mamma mia!

We are LIVE from a sold-out NRG Arena, and over the next five weeks, twelve of the greatest professional wrestlers on the planet will fight for the right to main event November Reign at Madison Square Garden!

Chael Sonnen: Mauro, I’ve been in high-stakes tournaments. I’ve seen pressure crack men in half. But this? This is something else. This is where careers are made. I can feel it in the air – tonight is DIFFERENT!

Mauro Ranallo: The Grand Prix begins right now with two of the most incredible athletes to ever step foot inside a ring. Let’s send things to our ring announcer, Justin Roberts!

The camera cut to the ring, where Justin Roberts raised the microphone:

Houston, Texas.........

This is your opening contest of the 2019 Grand Prix, scheduled for one fall with a 20-minute time limit, and it is an A Block match!

Match One: A Block - “The Aerial Assassin” Will Ospreay (0-0; 0 points) vs. Ricochet (0-0; 0 points)

The first match of Ignition was an A Block match between Will Ospreay and Ricochet. The crowd was electric as both men made their entrance. Ranallo and Sonnen offered their thoughts:

Mauro Ranallo: This is the first time we have seen Will Ospreay since that loss to Jon Moxley at SummerFest. He has been very candid and emotional about his desire to make 2019 the Year of Ospreay.

That’s not just a tagline Chael, this is a man that has dedicated his whole life to this wrestling, pushed boundaries, and now he seeks to elevate his name to the stratosphere of our sport.

Chael Sonnen: Across from him tonight is a man that I think mirrors Ospreay in so many ways...Ricochet. Look these two guys are straight up sensations, they can do things with their bodies that no one else in the world can, but they both feel they have everything to prove.

I can promise you – you're not gonna see a faster match all year. Blink and you’ll miss something.

The Houston crowd roared with excitement as both men met in the center of the ring. A respectful handshake drew a cheer – this was a bout built on honor and competition. Both fan favorites, Ospreay and Ricochet were cheered loudly, with the crowd just slightly louder for Ospreay.

The two men circled and locked up. They launched into a slick chain wrestling sequence – wristlocks, headlocks, and counters ensued – ending with both men kipping to their feet in a stalemate and applause.

A second exchange ramped up the pace: lightning-fast reversals, flips, rolls, and escapes. Ospreay got the better of it, hitting a tijeras followed by a smooth arm drag that sent Ricochet down. He rolled to the outside and slapped the apron in frustration.

Ospreay ran the ropes...springboard off the middle rope......

Ospreay FLIPPED back into the center of the ring, faking the dive. He struck his iconic superhero pose in the center of the ring. He yelled:

Come on then, bruv!

Ricochet nodded, smirking at the challenge as he reentered the ring.

What followed was breathtaking – an acrobatic rope-running sequence full of mirrored movement: dodges, kip-ups, and split-second reactions. The audience rose to their feet, erupting for the insane speed and athleticism.

Ricochet caught Ospreay mid-handspring and tried for a German Suplex – but Ospreay flipped over in mid-air, landing on his feet. In an instant, Ricochet popped him with a Pele Kick that connected flush to the jaw, sending Ospreay tumbling through the ropes to the floor.

Without missing a beat, Ricochet soared.....

SPACE FLYING TIGER DROP!

Ricochet twisted through the air with picture-perfect rotation!

Justin Roberts made the first time call of the match:

Five minutes have expired. Fifteen minutes remain.

Back inside, Ricochet hit a slingshot senton and scored the first 2-count of the match. Ricochet followed with a flurry of offense – combination strikes, a leaping neckbreaker, and a middle rope blockbuster!

1....

2......................

Kick Out!

Ricochet kept his foot on the gas. He tried for a hurricanrana, but Ospreay blocked at the last second and hoisted him up for a powerbomb....

Ricochet escaped and countered with a DOUBLE UNDERHOOK POWERBOMB!

1....

2...........

Kick Out!

On commentary:

Mauro Ranallo: Ricochet is controlling the pace so far, Chael. If you were scoring this on points, he’s ahead here.

Chael Sonnen: He’s just one step ahead of Ospreay, and to his credit, he’s staying on the attack. We know how much pressure Will Ospreay has put on himself coming into the Grand Prix. You’ve got to wonder...is he going to crack under that pressure?!

Ricochet went for the Benadryller, but Ospreay countered with a DDT!

With the crowd cheering singing his name, Ospreay caught his second wind...CORKSCREW KICK!

1....

2.................

Kick Out!

Ricochet rolled out to the apron, and Ospreay followed. Ricochet ducked a roundhouse kick and attempted a half-and-half suplex on the apron, but Ospreay escaped the grasp with a stiff back elbow.

Ospreay landed a superkick...followed by ANOTHER superkick!

Ospreay charged down the apron, but Ricochet hoisted him up into a fireman’s carry.........

DEATH VALLEY DRIVER ON THE APRON!

The crowd gasped as Ospreay flopped to the floor.

In a stunning moment, Ricochet followed.....

SHOOTING STAR PRESS OFF THE APRON TO THE FLOOR!

This is awesome!

Ten minutes have expired. Ten minutes remain.

Back in the ring, Ricochet hit a SPRINGBOARD 450! Cover!

1...

2...................

No!

Ospreay refused to stay down! Ricochet gritted his teeth and stayed on the attack. He lifted Ospreay for Vertigo, but Ospreay countered with a stunner!

Ospreay sprang to the ropes......OSCUTTER!

1......

2...........................

Kick Out!

Ospreay sat up, and he slowly yanked off his elbow pad. He signaled for the Hidden Blade..........

He charged.........................

RICOCHET COUNTERED WITH A LIGHTNING-FAST SPANISH FLY!

BOTH MEN WERE DOWN!

The crowd buzzed and clapped in rhythm. At the count of eight, they rose and met in the center of the ring. A furious strike exchange followed – chops led to back-and-forth forearms.

Ricochet and Ospreay TEED off, and the crowd got hotter as each strike landed.

Ospreay roared and hit a MONSTER forearm that dropped Ricochet. He positioned him for the Stormbreaker, but Ricochet drove Ospreay into the corner to prevent the move. Leaping head kick from Ricochet – he charged for a shotgun dropkick.....

BAM!

OSPREAY BEHEADED HIM WITH A HIDDEN BLADE OUT OF NOWHERE!

RICOCHET FOLDED IN HALF ON THE CANVAS!

1.....

2.................................

3.................................................................

Will Ospreay (13:40)

Will Ospreay: 2 Points (1-0) | Ricochet: 0 Points (0-1)

Both men were over as babyfaces and the crowd clearly knew about their previous matches on the independents throughout the years. The treated this like a big fight from the opening bell.

Match had a clean, escalating rhythm. The acrobatic rope-running exchange and Spanish Fly counter got the loudest reaction.

The Hidden Black was executed with maximum shock value – we really want to get this move over.

Overall, a fantastic tone-setter for the Grand Prix – an exciting, clean babyface vs. babyface match that delivered with athleticism. The crowd was super hot.

As the bell rang and the referee raised Will Ospreay’s hand, the Houston crowd stood and cheered.

Mauro Ranallo: He calls it the Hidden Blade – and it might be the most dangerous strike in WSW! Developed for his war with Jon Moxley at SummerFest...and now he brings it to the Grand Prix.

Chael Sonnen: That move came out of nowhere, Mauro – and it ended things fast. Ospreay sent a message here tonight!

Ricochet remained on the mat, dazed, clutching the side of his head and neck. The impact of the Hidden Blade clearly rattled him – his eyes blinked slowly, chest heaving.

Ospreay climbed the ropes, throwing his arms wide to a roar from the crowd. He pointed to the Grand Prix logo on the screen and then to himself – 2 points earned.

As Ospreay dropped from the turnbuckles, Ricochet made it to one knee. He looked up, foggy but focused, locking eyes with Ospreay across the ring.
The tension held for just a beat.

Ospreay gave a nod – nothing flashy, just a silent acknowledgement of the war they’d just fought. Ricochet nodded back faintly. No handshake. No pose. Just respect between warriors.

Mauro Ranallo said:

There’s a fine line between victory and defeat in the Grand Prix. One move, one moment, is all it takes. It was the Hidden Blade for Ospreay tonight, and he’s got his first 2 points of the tournament.

A vignette on the Death Busters aired.

The package opened with grainy black-and-white footage of the World Tag Team Championship match from last week. We see split-second flashes of the match finish:
  • Wilder biting Davey Boy’s head
  • Dawson low-blowing Teddy Hart
  • Wilder hitting the poisonrana on Davey Boy
  • The avalanche Fall of the Axe on Teddy Hart
  • 1...2...3 - the Death Busters retain the belts and win the rubber match with The Hart Foundation.
A low guitar-driven outlaw country beat plays – dusty and moody.

The camera fades to color, and we see a black Dodge Ram pickup truck drive down a two-lane highlight. Dawson is driving and Wilder rides shotgun. Both wear shades, and the WSW World Tag Team Titles rest on the dashboard. In the backseat, we see two leather jackets with the Black Arrow logo on the sleeve.

Dawson (voiceover):

Everybody loves a redemption story, right? The great Hart Foundation, a band of unwanted outlaws, got together and brought back a small glimmer of hope for the family name they ruined for years.

They won the belts; they had a good run...they lived the fairy tale they always dreamed of.

For one moment, they FINALLY got to wear the Hart Family legacy like a badge of honor.

Too bad the clock always strikes midnight in fairy tales.

Wilder (voiceover):

All that’s old is new again!

Here’s what the entire tag team division in WSW needs to understand...WE are inevitable.

As long as there’s oxygen in our lungs and blood pumping in our bodies – WE are the standard bearers of tag team wrestling.

Dawson (voiceover):

We ain’t flash. We ain’t finesse. We’re precision. We’re pain. And we’re just getting started.

Highlights are shown of the Death Busters wrenching limbs, hitting double-teams, and having their hands raised in victory.

Wilder (voiceover):

So whoever’s next – whoever thinks they’re ready to come for our gold – bring it.

Dawson (voiceover):

But it all ends the same way. Fall of the Axe...and 1. 2. 3.

Rapid cut highlights are shown of the Death Busters hitting the Fall of the Axe on multiple opponents.

Dawson (voiceover):

Because when Black Arrow aims...we don’t miss.

Top guys...out!

The package ends with a shot of the black truck driving off into the horizon.

Highlights are shown of the history between Adam Cole and Bobby Lashley. We see:
  • Adam Cole win the Intercontinental Championship in a three-way at Seize the Day in April. He was aided by Dawson & Wilder who put Lashley through a table during the match. Cole won the belt, despite not pinning Lashley (the champion coming in).
  • We see Lashley and Cole meet in a steel cage match at Undisputed for the Intercontinental Title.
  • We see a bloody Cole put down Lashley with a Last Shot with a chain wrapped around his knee. After the match, Dawson, Wilder & Cole pillmanized the arm of Arn Anderson and the leg of Bobby Lashley.
  • We see Lashley’s return two weeks ago. He has declared that he came back for two reasons – choke out Adam Cole and win the Grand Prix. He makes his return to the ring for the first time in thirteen weeks tonight.

Match Two: B Block – Adam Cole (0-0; 0 points) vs. Bobby Lashley (0-0; 0 points)

The second match of Ignition was a B Block match between Adam Cole and Bobby Lashley.

Mauro Ranallo: This is Bobby Lashley’s first match since Undisputed, and while the tape on his elbow tells one story, the look in his eyes tells another. Lashley has confirmed that he’s suffering bone spurs in that right elbow; however, he is here to make someone pay – and that someone is Adam Cole.

Chael Sonnen: Adam Cole is bonafide superstar. He's one of only two men to hold the World Title and the Intercontinental Title. He’s one of only two men to beat Lashley in a singles match. He’s cocky – but he’s smart. And in a tournament like this? Smart is just as important as strength. And I’ll tell you this, Mauro – bone spurs are not joke. They won’t kill you, but they sure hurt like hell. You can tape it, brace it, ice it...but that’s legit pain.

As soon as the bell rang, Adam Cole bailed to the outside, smirking as the crowd booed. Lashley stayed centered, eyes locked on him.

Slowly but surely, Cole climbed the ring steps and reentered. Lashley approached....

And Cole bailed outside again!

Lashley had enough. He exited the ring and gave chase.

Cole dove back inside to stay one step ahead. As Lashley got onto the apron, Cole booted him off. Cole followed to the outside, landing a sharp kick to the taped-up elbow that caused Lashley to wince.

Cole tried to whip Lashley into the steel steps, but Lashley cut him off with a sudden release overhead belly-to-belly suplex on the floor!

Lashley pulled him up, only to drive him back onto the floor mats with a German suplex!

Lashley rolled Cole inside the ring, noticeably shaking out his right elbow.

Back inside, Lashley hit two more German suplexes. Cole was tossed like a ragdoll! Lashley looked for the kill shot early, he sized up Cole, charged for the Spear........

Cole dodged and Lashley CRASHED shoulder-first into the steel ring post!

Mauro Ranallo exclaimed:

Good God! I think the entire ring moved from that impact!

Cole pounced – he wrenched the arm over the top rope, snapping the elbow across it a couple times. With the arm draped over the rope, Cole hit a superkick to the joint!

Lashley staggered out of the corner, and Cole followed with a bicycle kick, enziguri, and a backstabber! Cover!

1....

Kick Out!

Cole didn’t let the sudden kick out phase him. He ripped off the elbow tape and began choking Lashley with it! The crowd booed, as Cole spewed venom:

You don’t belong in this ring with me! You’re a broken-down freak!

The referee reached the count of 4 and then wrestled the tape out of Adam Cole’s hands, threatening him with a DQ. Cole went nose to nose with the referee before shoving him out the way to stomp on Lashley’s elbow! Cole stomped down repeatedly, then grinded his knee into the joint, isolating the elbow. The crowd booed.

Chael Sonnen said:

This is smart. There’s a calculated, brutal side of Adam Cole, and we’re seeing it on full display.

Cole pulled his hair back and backed into the corner. He went for the Last Shot.......

LASHLEY EXPLODED OFF THE MAT WITH A SPEAR! HE BLASTED COLE!

Lashley, wincing and favoring his arm, grabbed back control. He applied the seatbelt grip and went for the Head and Arm Choke in the center of the ring!

Cole flailed! He grabbed Lashley’s gigantic arm to prevent the submission, but Lashley got the choke applied!

Cole flailed in a panic! In a last bit of desperation, Cole reached up.........

HE DUG HIS FINGERS INTO THE EYES OF LASHLEY!

Lashley screamed in pain, but he didn’t let go!

With a SNARL, Lashley rolled to his side and cinched the choke in tighter!

Cole went limp!

The referee called for the bell!

Bobby Lashley (5:03)
Bobby Lashley 2 Points (1-0) | Adam Cole 0 Points (0-1)

This match was designed hit a narrative goal: reestablish Lashley as a monster, but maintain Cole’s identity as a cerebral, manipulative, entitled heel. We will use the bone spurs in the elbow as a legit story telling device throughout the Grand Prix. Lashley is an interesting character, and since his arrival in WSW, we have always leaned into his MMA background rather than pro wrestling.

This was a quick match that designed to feel like a fight.

Lashley released the hold and shoved Cole’s body down in disgust. He walked to the ropes, clutching his elbow. Fire burned inside his eyes as he looked at Adam Cole, who rolled to the outside – putting as much distance between himself and Lashley as possible.

Mauro Ranallo: Bobby Lashley wants to win the Grand Prix, but we heard him last week. He came into this match wanting to choke out Adam Cole. He wanted to exercise weeks of frustration. That Head and Arm choke is so deadly, and it just put Adam Cole to sleep!

Chael Sonnen: Cole tried to claw his way out – literally. But tonight, the storm was too strong. Cole’s behind the eight ball now, but the Grand Prix is a marathon, not a sprint.

Mauro Ranallo: Make no doubt about it – Bobby Lashley just sent a message to the rest of the B Block: injury or not, he is still an apex predator.

As Ignition returned from commercial, the camera panned to the commentary team on stage.

Mauro Ranallo: Ladies and gentlemen, before we continue with Grand Prix action, we do want to take a moment to address the absence of our colleague, Paige Knight.

Chael Sonnen: That’s right. As many of you may have seen on social media in the last couple of days, Paige has taken a medical leave of absence to undergo neck surgery. She’s as tough as they come, and we want to wish her nothing but the absolute best during her recovery.

Mauro Ranallo: Paige, we love you. The WSW family is thinking of you, and we can’t wait to have you back right here at this desk.

The announcers then threw it to a video package, hyping the AJ Styles/Austin Aries match.

The package opened with AJ Styles, calm and confident, sitting in a black leather chair.

It’s only fitting that my first match in the Grand Prix is against Austin Aries. Two men who were here on Day One of WSW. Two men who’ve built the foundation of this company. The history between us runs deep.

Clips of early WSW moments air: Aries vs. Styles from 2015.

The camera cuts to Austin Aries, who is intense and speaks with a bitterness in his voice.

After my loss to Cody, I knew what was next. It wasn’t a question – it was the Grand Prix. I may have lost the battle at SummerFest, but the Grand Prix...this is the battlefield to win my war. And wouldn’t you know it...standing across from me on night one is “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles.

Clips of AJ Styles winning titles and fans chanting his name are shown as Aries speaks.

AJ and I go way back...before there was WSW, before there was a so called wrestling revolution...there was Austin Aries and AJ Styles, redefining the sport of pro wrestling.

The only difference between us...AJ has always been the golden boy. He’s always gotten the royal treatment. Me? I was always put in a box, labeled a liability...never given the flowers that I so rightfully deserve.

Cut back to AJ Styles.

Tonight, fourteen years of history comes together. Everyone knows my goal – I want the World Title again. And this journey back to the belt starts with a man who’s been a constant my whole career.

Aries is dangerous. A tactician. He’s a guy that has never truly been given the credit that he deserves, and he wears that chip on his shoulder every day.

But me...I’ve got a fire in my belly that won’t quit. I need to feed that fire. And there’s no other option...than to win.

Cut back to Austin Aries.

I won’t be silenced anymore. I’m a founding father of WSW. But I wasn’t trustworthy or marketable enough for Shane McMahon to call me the ACE.

The Grand Prix is my final reckoning, and AJ Styles will be the first to fall. And when I beat their Ace...the world will realize what it’s been blind to for far too long...I have always been....

The Greatest Man That Ever Lived!

Match Three: A Block - Austin Aries (0-0; 0 points) vs. “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles (0-0; 0 points)

The third match of Ignition was A Block action between Austin Aries and AJ Styles. Aries entered to a chorus of boos from the Houston crowd.

Mauro Ranallo: This is the first time we’ve seen Austin Aries since SummerFest – where he fell to Cody. Tonight, he returns with a chip on his shoulder the size of Texas.

Chael Sonnen: Aries believes he’s the forgotten soldier in the rise of WSW – left behind while others got the shine. He’s hellbent on rewriting his narrative...and AJ Styles is the first man in his way.

Mauro Ranallo: And while Styles has been drawn like a magnet to Kenny Omega in recent weeks – with Jon Moxley lurking like a hungry tiger – tonight, AJ’s focus must be squarely on Austin Aries.

On September 15, 2015, AJ Styles and Austin Aries wrestled in a singles match for the first time inside a WSW ring. Here tonight, August 15, 2019 – we get the next installment in their saga, this time in the Grand Prix.

The bell rang and the two circled slowly. The crowd loudly chanted:

AJ STYLES!

They locked up. Aries grabbed a wristlock, but Styles quickly reversed into a hammerlock. Aries transitioned to a side headlock. Styles shot him into the ropes and went for his patented dropkick – but Aries hooked the top rope to stop his momentum, and Styles landed on the mat.

Aries charged, but Styles hit a backdrop; however, Aries flipped in mid-air and landed on his feet! Styles fired a stiff back elbow into the jaw, hit the ropes, but Aries caught him with a dropkick! The impact sent Style sprawling through the ropes to the floor.

TOPE SUICIDA!

Aries wasted no time – he flew like a missile and CRASHED into Styles with lightning-quick precision.

Aries whipped Styles back first into the ring apron, and then he whipped him into the steel steps with a loud CLANG!

Back inside, Aries charged – but Styles used his momentum against him and hoisted Aries into a fireman’s carry. Aries elbowed free and immediately tried the Brainbuster, but Styles blocked it. Styles tried to counter – hoisting Aries up for a vertical suplex, but Aries kneed him in the head as he was lifted, breaking free.

Aries let loose with elbow strikes to the head. He tried to cap his dizzying flurry with the Rolling Elbow, but Styles cut him off with BRUTAL forearm shot!

Styles followed with a spinning backfist!

Styles went for a discus lariat, but Aries countered with a crucifix bomb.......

NO!

Styles blocked it and transitioned into a Ushigoroshi!

Justin Roberts:

Five minutes have expired. Fifteen minutes remain.

On commentary, Mauro Ranallo said:

These two know each other so well. So many matches, so many battles inside the ring. They know the counters before the moves are even thrown!

Styles went for the Styles Clash, but Aries grabbed the ropes to prevent the move. Aries raked the eyes to create some separation. He hit the ropes and charged, but Styles elevated him up and over the ropes – all the way to the floor!

Styles followed with a slingshot plancha that connected perfectly!

Styles threw Aries back inside and positioned himself on the apron. He vaulted to the top rope.....

PHENOMENAL FOREARM...........

Aries swept his legs mid-springboard and AJ Styles CRASHED onto the apron in a NASTY LANDING!

Styles fell to the floor in pain. Aries leaned against the ropes with a sick smile and he urged the referee to begin the 20 count.

....5........6...........7...........8........

Grabbing the ring skirt, Styles pulled himself to his feet at the count of 9. He grabbed at his lower back.

Aries realized the count out wasn’t happening, so he hit the ropes and sprinted – looking for another tope suicida.......

3.................................................

AJ Styles (9:30)
AJ Styles 2 Points (1-0) | Austin Aries 0 Points (0-1)

This match did a strong job without overstaying its welcome. This was a strong, clean, technically sound match that you would expect out of these two.

We wanted to tell the story of familiarity since these guys have been with us from day one, and they have wrestled countless times in the past. This match was all about familiarity and counters.

Well worked by both men.

As the bell rang and the referee raised AJ Styles’s hand, the crowd roared in approval – firmly behind the Phenomenal One. Styles caught his breath, hand pressed to his back.

Austin Aries rolled out the ring, dazed and frustrated. He kicked the ring steps and sat on the floor mats on the outside. Styles saluted the crowd and glanced towards Aries on the outside – not with arrogance, but awareness. Fourteen years of history from the independents, TNA, and now WSW...another chapter in their story was written.

Styles pointed to the Grand Prix scoreboard on stage, 2 points earned, and the long road to November Reign had begun.

A vignette featuring Tessa Blanchard aired.

A slow-motion aerial shot of Miami Beach opened the piece – the scene was crystal blue water, palm trees swaying in the wind, sunlight glinting off glass skyscrapers. The camera panned into the top floor of a sleek, oceanfront penthouse.

Inside, Tessa Blanchard reclined on a modern, black leather couch. She wore a crisp white designer blazer over a red silk blouse, adorned with gleaming jewelry. The WSW Women’s World Championship glistened on a marble coffee table in front of her – its gold plates reflecting the ocean sunlight.

Two sharply dressed butlers poured champagne into a crystal flute on a silver tray and handed it to her. She accepted with a smirk.

Blanchard leaned back, calm and cold:

They say money can’t buy happiness. That’s true...

But it CAN buy the penthouse suite, the finest champagne, the designer labels, and a front-row seat to witness greatness.

MY greatness.

Quick highlights are shown of Blanchard’s title defenses – destroying opponents with the Buzzsaw DDT and standing tall with her arms raised.

People don’t hate me because I lie.

They hate me because I tell the truth.

I said I would be the face of this division. I said I would be the best in the world. And I BECAME the best in the world.

A sharp cut is made to Blanchard standing in the middle of a ring, championship held high as fans boo.

I am the WSW Women’s World Champion. Not because I’m liked. Not because I smile and shake hands.

But because I WIN.

Every. Single. Time.

Shots of past opponents being pinned and lying crushed in defeat are shown.

I’m 24 years old. I’ve traveled the world. I’ve beaten every woman put in front of me. I AM the personification of the women’s evolution that everyone wants to talk about.

Some call themselves queens.

Me?

I’m a goddess.

The camera cuts to slow-motion footage of Deonna Purrazzo hitting suplexes, locking in the Fujiwara Armbar and tapping out both Tenille Dashwood and Nixon Newell.

But now...there’s a little mosquito buzzing in my ear. An annoying little itch that just won’t go away.

Deonna Purrazzo...

Tessa laughed softly, shaking her head.

I’ll give you credit, Deonna. You’ve taken down the others. You beat Nixon. You beat Tenille. Now, you have your sights set on me.

Deonna Purrazzo...the best technical women’s wrestler in the world...

But when the lights are the brightest, I do what I ALWAYS do.

Win.

Tessa stood and walked slowly through the penthouse. Her heels clicked on the marble floor. The camera followed her out onto the sunlit balcony overlooking the turquoise water below.

This...is my empire.

She stretched her arms out wide, the wind gently blowing through her raven colored hair.

You don’t have to love me. But you can’t take this away from me. Because NO ONE...can beat me.

Blanchard turned towards the camera.

Deonna, do you really think you’re the one?

I dare you to try.

Because when I beat you again, I’m not just winning a match – I'm eliminating hope itself.

The camera zoomed in slowly as Blanchard smiled with venomous confidence.

The Women’s World Title stays with me. And everyone in WSW better realize something...

All of you are simply fighting for second place.

The camera cut to a shot of the Women’s World Title, glimmering in the sun. As we see the belt, we hear Tessa’s voice.

I’m the best thing to ever happen to women’s wrestling.

Diamonds are forever. And so...is Tessa Blanchard.

Match Four: A Block – Bandido (0-0; 0 Points) vs. Kenny Omega (0-0; 0 Points)

The fourth match of Ignition was an A Block match between Bandido and Kenny Omega. Bandido received a strong reaction from the Houston crowd, and they EXPLODED for the arrival of the WSW World Champion, Kenny Omega. As pyro exploded around the champion, our commentary duo said:

Mauro Ranallo: Here he comes...the World Champion, and a man that some call the greatest tournament wrestler in the world. He has won the famed G1 Climax in New Japan Pro Wrestling, and tonight he begins competing in his first ever Grand Prix.

Chael Sonnen: Omega has been very clear about his goals – he wants to be the first reigning World Champion to win the Grand Prix. It’s important to note here, Mauro – no titles are on the line in Grand Prix matches, but a win for Bandido here tonight would be career defining and lead to a title shot down the road.

Mauro Ranallo: This is the second singles match between Bandido and Omega. These two men met on May 30th right here on Ignition. It was Bandido’s first singles match in WSW. Omega won that night, but Bandido earned the champion’s respect and the admiration of everyone in WSW.

Before the bell, the camera panned to a VIP area of NRG Arena, where RUSH and Dragon Lee were shown in sharp suits, watching intently. Mauro noted:

Very interesting...looks like LFI is here tonight, keeping a close eye on things.

The two men shook hands in the center of the ring, sharing a respectful nod before launching into a grappling exchange. The two men moved with elite speed and quickness, until Omega landed a snap hurricanrana that spiked Bandido right on his head!

Bandido rolled to the outside. Fired up, Omega began to rhythmically beat on the canvas, already calling for the Rise of the Terminator. He hit the ropes and charged, but quick as a cat, Bandido slid into the ring and cut him off with a hurricanrana of his own!

This time, it was Omega’s time to roll outside and regroup. Bandido didn’t give him one second to breathe....

CANNONBALL TOPE SUICIDA!

Bandido hit with so much force he nearly flew into the first row! Bandido slapped hands with fans at ringside before rolling Omega back inside. He hit a dropkick and three HARD chops that drove the World Champion into the corner.

Bandido charged, but Omega elevated him up – intending to send him over the ropes. However, in a freakish display of balance, Bandido did a headstand on the top turnbuckle – his feet pointed directly to the sky. Bandido slung his legs down and caught Omega with a high revolution tijeras!

Omega tumbled through the ropes to the floor. Bandido went to the apron and leapt off for another hurricanrana, but Omega CAUGHT him mid-air.......

POWERBOMB ONTO THE RAMP!

Bandido’s body bounced from the impact, and he landed with a sick THUD!

Omega rolled back inside, and the referee began the 20 Count. At the count of 8, Bandido got to his feet, grabbing at his back.......

RISE OF THE TERMINATOR!

OMEGA FLEW AND DRILLED BANDIDO!

Back inside, Omega hit the Kotaru Crusher for the first 2 count of the match. Omega went after Bandido’s back. He hit a backbreaker and followed with a Camel Clutch!

Omega leaned back, and Mauro Ranallo said:

The champion is applying the pressure here – Bandido's frame is being contorted like a pretzel.

Bandido reached for the ropes, but Omega grabbed the arm and pulled it across the masked luchador’s face – forcing him to crossface himself!

Bandido wiggled and twisted – doing anything to escape Omega’s grasp. Losing his grip, Omega rolled the submission and transitioned to a cross-arm bar; however, Bandido clutched his hands together to prevent the arm extension. Fighting the submission, and digging his toes into the canvas, Bandido stacked Omega up, pinning his shoulders to the mat....

Kick Out!

Omega stomped on Bandido’s back, but the luchador fired back with chops. Bandido hit the ropes, looking to pick up the pace, but Omega cut him off with a kitchen sink knee. Omega followed with You Can’t Escape. Cover!

2.......

Kick Out!

Omega kept pouring it on – high angle back suplex for another 2 count!

Omega chopped Bandido hard – the strike echoed throughout the NRG Arena. The chop seemingly woke up Bandido though, and he responded with several chops of his own. With a primal roar, Omega fired back with machine gun chops!

Omega’s hand blistered the chest of Bandido – sweat misted in the air with each blow!

Omega whipped Bandido into the ropes, but Bandido rebounded with a back handspring elbow! Pop Up Cutter followed!

Omega staggered to his feet in the corner. Bandido SMASHED into the World Champion with running double knees. He unleashed with a lightning-fast strike combination – forearm, chops, and a gamenguri kick to the skull! He took Omage up top, looking for a superplex. Omega fought back, trying to block the move, but Bandido pounding him with sharp elbow strikes. Bandido grabbed Omega and took him off the top....

REVOLUTION FLY!

2.................................

KICK OUT!

Bandido lifted Omega up, looking for the gorilla press....but Omega escaped! He hooked Bandido – Snap Dragon.......

NO!

Bandido countered with a modified jawbreaker!

Bandido lifted Omega...GORILLA PRESS!

Bandido walked around the ring with the World Champion overhead. He brought the crowd to its feet, by transitioning to a ONE-HANDED lift!

Bandido dropped Omega, who crashed on the canvas. The World Champion rolled out to the apron, but Bandido stayed on the attack.

DOUBLE SPRINGBOARD DROPKICK!

Bandido showcased INSANE body control, drilling Omega off the apron to the floor. With the crowd chanting his name, Bandido vaulted himself to the top.......

TORNILLO DIVE!

The Houston crowd roared:

This is awesome!

Justin Roberts announced:

Ten minutes have expired. Ten minutes remain.

Back inside, Bandido positioned Omega for the 21 Plex. He backed up and charged for the finisher....

V-TRIGGER!

SNAP DRAGON!

ANOTHER SNAP DRAGON!

A THIRD SNAP DRAGON!

Omega lifted Bandido for the One Winged Angel.........

BANDIDO COUNTERED WITH A POISION RANA!

With the crowd standing and clapping, both men rose:

V-Trigger from Omega! Bandido fell into the ropes and rebounded with a superkick! Omega fell into the ropes and rebounded with another V-Trigger! Bandido rebounded back....SIMULTANEOUS CLOTHESLINES!

BOTH MEN WENT DOWN!

The crowd EXPLODED!

WSW! WSW! WSW!

Justin Roberts:
Fifteen minutes have expired. Five minutes remaining.

Mauro Ranallo:

Five minutes left! Who wants those two points more? You can feel the desperation setting in. This is mano y mano and a race against the clock!

Both men pulled themselves up slowly. They stared at each other in the eyes...slowly, Omega extended a fist. Bandido reciprocated and they fist bumped in respect.

Both men TORE INTO EACH OTHER! They threw bombs: forearms, chops, forearms, chops...Bandido ducked a forearm and RIPPED Omega down with bridging German Suplex!

2.......................

KICK OUT!

Mauro Ranallo:

The CLOSEST of two counts! Bandido is pouring it all out here in Houston. This isn’t about surviving Kenny Omega – it's about surviving yourself when you dare to match him!

Bandido slapped his beat red chest and fired up, the crowd responded in kind. Bandido climbed up top. He shimmied his shoulders ala Eddy Guerrero. He flew with a Frog Splash...

OMEGA GOT THE KNEES UP!

Bandido recoiled in pain! He grabbed at his back as he struggled to his feet!

V-TRIGGER!

Omega hoisted Bandido up!

ONE WINGED ANGEL!

3.....................................................................................

Kenny Omega (16:18)
Kenny Omega 2 Points (1-0) | Bandido 0 Points (0-1)

This match fully delivered on the expectations coming in. The crowd was molten for this match as it kicked into gear. Once again, Kenny made Bandido look like a threat without undermining his own aura.

In so many ways, Bandido could be the Mexican star that every US promotion has looked for since Rey Mysterio. We need to treat him as such.
We really played into the importance of the time limit here. It is important that we get this over as an important component of the Grand Prix.

The crowd gave both men a thunderous ovation. Omega raised his arms in victory. Bandido clutched his neck, but he gave Omega a respectful nod before rolling out of the ring.

Mauro Ranallo: He came up short, but Bandido pushed Kenny Omega to the absolute limit here tonight. But our World Champion showed that once again, he rises to the big moment. He thrives in deep water, and his journey in the Grand Prix begins with a win and 2 points in the A Block.

Chael Sonnen: Kenny Omega was born to be a pro wrestler, and he has perfected his craft. That V-Trigger and the One Winged Angel are so dangerous. He is a sniper who never misses when the scope locks in. That’s why he may be the FIRST reigning World Champion to win the Grand Prix!

Highlights are shown of Ethan Carter’s brutal chair shot on Cody two weeks ago:
  • We see slow-motion shots of the chair meeting Cody’s skull, with the sickening crack heard several times.
  • We see still images of Cody’s platinum blonde hair stained with blood.
  • We see still images of Cody’s head with 12 staples in it to close the wound.

Backstage, Melissa Santos stood by with Cody. He stood calm and composed, but a flicker of pain could be seen in his eyes. The Intercontinental Championship was around his waist.

Melissa Santos: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to Ignition. Cody, tonight you open your Grand Prix journey against Kota Ibushi. You’re stepping into this match just two weeks removed from that vicious chair shot...just one week after having twelve staples removed from your head. You have been cleared, and you have vowed to maintain your spot in the Grand Prix. How are you feeling and how do you focus on this tournament with everything going on?

Cody: Because there’s nothing that would keep me away.

Two weeks ago, Ethan Carter left me in a puddle of my own blood. A steel chair to the skull.

Just seven days ago, a doctor pulled twelve staples out of my head – twelve reminders of the sins of my past.

I know who I am. But pain? Pain is the price for redemption. And tonight – tonight is the start of something I NEED.

I will deal with Ethan Carter. That’s a promise. I will finish this – once and for all. But right now...it’s the Grand Prix.

There’s a phrase that’s been thrown around a lot lately – blood and guts.

It was said by a vindictive man that meant it as an insult. A jab. A backhand to what we do in WSW. But I wear that like a badge of honor.

Blood and guts isn’t about mutilation – it's about giving EVERYTHING. Pouring every once of yourself into that ring. Fighting for something bigger than yourself. Fighting to perfect a craft. To push limits. To SHATTER glass ceilings.

With a scar on my head and fire in my soul, I go to that ring tonight because I NEED this. I need the Grand Prix. I need to win this tournament, because it’s the ultimate validation. It’s the path to the main event of Madison Square Garden...hollowed ground that a Rhodes has never stood in.
You want blood and guts – I'll give it to you!

Match Five: B Block – Kota Ibushi (0-0; 0 Points) vs. “The American Nightmare” Cody (0-0; 0 Points)

The fifth match of Ignition was a B Block match between Kota Ibushi and Cody. Ibushi received a respectful, enthusiastic reaction. They came unglued when Cody’s music hit.

The Intercontinental Champion Cody walked out with the crowd chanting his name. He had an edge to him – his eyes focused, his stride stiff. Chael Sonnen said:

Cody is the Intercontinental Champion, the heartbeat of WSW, and a man fighting with more than just pride – he's fighting hurt. I respect the hell out of him, but there’s no way that he’s 100% after taking a chair to the skull.

Mauro Ranallo added:

Think about the pace that Cody has been on these past few months. No one has wrestled as many singles matches as he has since the month of May. He has captured the Intercontinental Title, but at what point does that pace catch up to him?!

Both men shook hands and circled each other. The opening lock up was tight, competitive, and clean. They broke and reset. Another tie-up led to Cody grabbing an arm wringer. Ibushi escaped, but Cody’s superior grappling skills shined as he grounded Ibushi. Ibushi fought to his feet, spun out, and cracked Cody with a back elbow.

They hit the ropes – duck unders, leapfrogs, and dodges followed until Ibushi suddenly snapped off a picture-perfect hurricanrana that sent Cody to the floor. The crowd stirred as Ibushi slingshotted himself for a pescado....

But Cody moved! Ibushi landed on his feet on the floor though. He ducked a lariat and CRACKED Cody with a roundhouse kick to the head!

Cody winced and dropped to a knee. Ibushi darted back into the ring and vaulted into a flawless Golden Triangle Moonsault to the outside! He wiped out Cody!

Ibushi rolled Cody in and PEPPERED him with a series of wicked kicks that cracked like a whip: leg kicks led to hard kicks to the ribs.

Cody finally caught a kick and spun Ibushi down with a Dragon Screw Leg Whip!

Cody went after the leg with stomps and a shinbreaker. Cody hit a flapjack and covered!

1....

Kick Out!

Cody drove Ibushi into the corner and climbed to the middle rope. He pounded away with the ten mounted punches, the crowd chanting along:

6....7...8....9.....10!

Justin Roberts:

Five minutes have expired. Fifteen minutes remain.

Cody tried for a vertical suplex, but Ibushi blocked. Cody tried again – blocked again. Gritting his teeth, Cody roared, hoisted Ibushi up, and suplexed him over the top rope, but Ibushi clung on and both men CRASHED to the floor in a NASTY landing!

Somehow, someway...Cody maintained his grip on Ibushi’s head...he rose.....

DDT ON THE FLOOR!

Cody crawled back into the ring, clearly rattled and clutching the back of his head. He went for a baseball slide.....

Ibushi evaded, leapt to the apron......

ASAI MOONSAULT!

Back inside, Ibushi nailed a dropkick, followed by a wicked kick to the sternum. Ibushi hit the standing moonsault knee drop! Cover!

2.................

Kick Out!

Ibushi set Cody on the top rope and connected with a leaping kick to the head! Ibushi climbed up and looked for a superplex – but Cody fought him off with forearms......

Cody slipped through Ibushi’s legs and RIPPED him out of the corner and onto the canvas with a THUNDEROUS Alabama Slam!

DISASTER KICK!

COVER!

2...................

Kick Out!

Cody wasted no movement. He went for the Cross Rhodes, but Ibushi slipped free and unleased a lightning-fast strike combo:
  • Leg Kick
  • Leg Kick
  • Chop
  • Chop
  • BOOM – a discus lariat that turned Cody inside out!
Ibushi dragged himself off the mat and went to the middle rope, but Cody popped up and landed a dropkick, sending Ibushi tumbling over the ropes to the apron.

Cody followed and landed several heavy forearms. He tried for a Cody Cutter on the apron....

Ibushi blocked and dropped Cody with a reverse DDT on the apron!

STANDING MOONSAULT KNEE DROP ON THE APRON!

Back inside, Ibushi sized up Cody. He charged for the Boma Ye.......

CODY COUNTERED WITH THE SNAP POWERSLAM!

Back suplex from Cody! He looked for the Figure Four...as he went to hook the legs, Ibushi rolled him up!

1.....

2......................

Kick Out!

Ibushi held on to the wrist on the kickout and snapped a flurry of kicks into Cody’s ribs.

ROUNDHOUSE to the head!

Cody dropped down to his knees. A glassy look came over his eyes. Mauro Ranallo said:

My God, Cody has taken a tremendous amount of punishment to the head. How much more is left in the tank?!

Ibushi lined up for a buzzsaw kick......

CODY EXPLODED OFF THE CANVAS AND FOLDED IBUSHI IN HALF WITH A LARIAT!

Both men were down, and the crowd roared.

Justin Roberts:

Ten minutes have expired. Ten minutes remain.

They both rose – Cody slower. Ibushi reared back – and LANDED ANOTHER THUNDEROUS KICK TO CODY’S SKULL!

Cody COLLAPSED, grabbing his head. He rolled to the corner in visible pain.

The referee and ringside doctor rushed over. Ignoring their words, Cody grabbed for the ropes – doing anything to get to his feet. The crowd knew Cody was in trouble and did everything they could to rally him.

CODY! CODY! CODY!

The referee asked:

Cody, look at me. Can you go?

Cody stood and screamed:

A dazed, battered Cody rose, his hands up. Ibushi nodded solemnly........

SPINNING WHEEL KICK TO THE HEAD!

Cody dropped.

BOMA YE!

Kota Ibushi (12:02)
Kota Ibushi 2 Points (1-0) | Cody 0 Points (0-1)

This was a hard-hitting match that was designed to elevate Kota Ibushi with a major singles win over the reigning Intercontinental Champion, while also telling the story of Cody’s head injury from the chair shot.

Cody’s selling was pitch-perfect. It furthered the storyline with Ethan Carter, without Carter having to be present. At the same time, the match was set up to get over Ibushi as a lethal striker and legit Grand Prix contender. We really want to get over the other members of Golden Triangle as legit singles stars – not just second fiddle to Omega.

The NRG Arena was in disbelief. Cody – beloved, courageous, but human – had fallen.

Mauro Ranallo: Ibushi just pinned the Intercontinental Champion...and Cody may have pushed himself past the brink. Cody’s refusal to rest may not just cost him matches, but jeopardize his health!

Chael Sonnen: There’s heart, and then there’s hubris. Cody said he was fine...but he wasn’t. Tonight, the Golden Star, Kota Ibushi, just proved he’s a man to watch in the Grand Prix. He just pinned the damn Intercontinental Champion!

Cody sat up, dazed. Ibushi bowed to him. Cody nodded, but the message was clear – the road through the Grand Prix would be hell.

Highlights of the Newcomers Four Way from three weeks ago is shown. We see Jungle Boy run wild and lock Myron Reed in the Snare Trap submission.

Mauro Ranallo: He’s got it locked in! Myron Reed has nowhere to go – Jungle Boy’s about to win this thing!

We see Sammy Guevara launch himself through the air with a breathtaking 630 senton, crashing onto both men. Guevara pinned Reed for the win. Jungle Boy looked up to the lights in disbelief.

A split screen is shown of the two men’s contrasting lifestyles.

On the left side, we see Sammy Guevara:
  • Sammy slides into a matte black Lamborghini, revs it, and speeds down a highway.
  • He vlogs in sunglasses, surrounded by laughing influencer friends.
  • We see highlights of his selfie’s -- doing flips in the gym, eating expensive dinners, and taking pictures with InstaGram models.

On the right side, we see Jungle Boy:
  • He hugs his family and laughs at a backyard birthday party.
  • He rides waves on a surfboard in the Southern California sun.
  • He trains solo – lifting weights, doing mat drills, and running steps at dawn.
A shot of Jungle Boy speaking directly into the camera is shown:

Three weeks ago, I had that match won. I don’t blame Sammy for what he did...that was our feature match on Ignition. There is nothing more important than wins in professional wrestling, but he stole one from me.

That’s why I want to run it back. One on one this time. Man to man. Eye to eye.

Sammy, you’re all about flash. Followers, filters, your brand.

Me...I’m not here to go viral. I’m here to be the best. We all killed ourselves for this opportunity at the Dojo. Let’s show the world what the future of WSW looks like, and there’s no better place to do it than the debut of OverDrive on Saturday!

The camera cuts to Sammy Guevara speaking into the camera:

Shane McMahon and the WSW brass better get their chisels and hammers ready, because by the time I’m done...I’m going on the Mount Rushmore of WSW.

Nobody moves like me in the ring. No one works the camera like me. Nobody’s got my aura, my rizz.

Jungle Boy wants a match on OverDrive. Brother, I’m a YouTube GOD!

This is a dog-eat-dog world, bro. And my star? It burns brightest.

Jungle Boy is going to learn that we’re living in the Guevara Era, and he’s nothing more than Southern California SOFT.

This Saturday on OverDrive, I’m gonna knock him outta WSW, outta wrestling, and straight onto the CW where he can star in the next season of some bullshit teen drama...

The final shot shows highlights of both men:
  • Sammy hits the 630
  • Jungle Boy hits a hurricanrana
  • Sammy hits his corkscrew plancha
  • Jungle Boy locks in the Snare Trap
A graphic appears on the screen: Jungle Boy vs. Sammy Guevara – This Saturday – OverDrive!

Backstage, Melissa Santos interviewed Claudio Castagnoli and Salina de la Rena. Claudio stood silently in his gear, arms crossed, eyes cold. Salina wore heels and power-red lipstick.

Melissa Santos: I’m here with Salina de la Rena and Claudio Castagnoli, who returns to action tonight for the first time since the main event of SummerFest. Tonight, you are in the main event again -- what are your thoughts on this Grand Prix match with Jon Moxley?

Salina de la Renta: SummerFest was...embarrassing.

We all know what this mission has always been about...gold. Claudio failed at SummerFest, but no empire rises without setbacks.

No kingdom is forged without blood.

Tonight, we make the world remember who Claudio Castagnoli is...a precision weapon. The most dangerous man in professional wrestling.

Jon Moxley? He’s a wildcard. A man who pours gasoline on forest fires just to watch the flames lick the sky. He calls himself an uncaged tiger, a force of nature.

Well tonight...the Assassin puts the tiger down!

Claudio stepped forward. He spoke with quiet, cold intensity:

Jon Moxley is a man who finds comfort in chaos.

I am a man who finds comfort in pain.

Tonight, I will hurt you, Jon – hurt you like you’ve never been hurt before.

It’s not personal. You’re just in my way. And I NEED the World Title to heal my soul.

Claudio stared down the camera lens, jaw clenched. Salinda gently touched his arm, and the duo walked on.

Melissa raised the microphone:

Mauro, Chael – back to....

The voice of Taya Valkyrie is heard!

How’d your fiancé doing, Melissa?

Walking into the interview area is the LA Express Johnny Mundo, Taya Valkyrie, and Mike Bennett in tow. A heavy silence hit, and Melissa froze for a second, her jaw tightened.

Mundo smugly grinned:

I’m ready for MY interview.

Melissa stormed off furiously. Johnny chuckled along with Taya Valkyrie like two mean high school bullies. Mike Bennett looked uncomfortable about all of this.

Match Six: B Block - “The Assassin” Claudio Castagnoli (w/ Salina de la Renta) (0-0; 0 Points) vs. “The Death Rider” Jon Moxley (0-0; 0 Points)

The main event of Ignition was a B Block match between Claudio Castagnoli and Jon Moxley.

Castagnoli entered slowly and coldly, shadowed by the venomous Salina de la Renta. On commentary, Mauro Ranallo said:

Tonight, we see the first match from Claudio Castagnoli since his defeat to Kenny Omega at SummerFest. Prior to that match, he was unbeaten for nearly eight months. It is nothing short of shocking the transformation of this man under Salina de la Renta. She has transformed him into a ruthless weapon that is motivated by one promise: recapturing the World Championship.

The NRG Arena EXPLODED. Thunderous, unfiltered energy spread through the building.

Jon Moxley emerged through the people – shoulders swaying, head lowered, soaking in the chaos.

Mauro Ranallo: A seismic force has shaken WSW to its core since this man arrived. Fresh off his massive victory over Will Ospreay at SummerFest, Jon Moxley has entered the fray.

Chael Sonnen: I would argue that there is NO ONE that enters the Grand Prix hotter than Jon Moxley. This is a very dangerous man, Mauro.

As soon as Moxley entered the ring, he struck!

The two titans collided mid-ring, throwing BOMBS. The crowd roared. Moxley and Castagnoli threw forearms and punches like this was a back alley brawl!

Moxley ducked an enziguri. Castagnoli avoided a running kick to the head. The sequence was RAW and the fans were unglued.

Both men began elbowing each other. SICK, bone-on-one shots.

Castagnoli got the better of the exchange, bounced off the ropes and CRACKED Moxley with a lariat.

Castagnoli hit the ropes for momentum but ran directly into a spinning slam from Moxley! Moxley threw Castagnoli through the ropes to the floor. On the outside, Moxley BOUNCED Castagnoli’s head off the timekeeper’s table. He then LIT him up with chops!

POP! POP! POP!

The chops EXPLODED on Castagnoli’s chest, landing with the sound of gunfire. Moxley landed one chop so stiff, it nearly sent Castagnoli over the guardrail!

Salina de la Renta walked over and SHRIEKED.

GO TO HELL, MOXLEY!

Moxley paused his glorious violence and cocked his head. He began stalking Salina. Salina backed up but continued to spew hateful venom in Mox’s direction. This was all part of the plan....

Castagnoli ran up from behind and barreled Moxley headfirst into the steel ring post!

Back inside, Castagnoli rained down vicious stomps to Moxley’s skull. Over and over again, the stomps landed like anvils. He ground Moxley’s face into the canvas – but Moxley SMILED!

Mauro exclaimed:

He’s smiling! Jon Moxley is wearing every stomp like a badge of honor!

Moxley roared! He got to his feet, chest heaving, eyes wide!

He BLASTED Castagnoli with three hellacious chops – but Claudio answered with a lariat from hell!

MOXLEY DIDN’T BUDGE AN INCH!

They went forehead to forehead! Moxley screamed:

Come on motherf*cker!

HEADBUTT FROM MOXLEY!

Moxley hit the ropes......KING KONG LARIAT!

CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI DIDN’T MOVE!

Castagnoli roared and fired a series of his own chops! Moxley reversed an Irish Whip into the corner and followed with a corner clothesline. He tried for a vertical suplex, but Castagnoli blocked and with his sheer raw power...hoisted Moxley up and dropped him with a textbook vertical suplex!

Justin Roberts:
Five minutes have expired. Fifteen minutes remain.

Castagnoli ran the ropes and SMASHED Moxley with a running boot to the jaw!

Moxley spit on the canvas. He rose and threw forearms – straight to the face! Moxley swung and swung...each forearm hitting harder than the last.

CASTAGNOLI STARTING HEADBUTTING THE FOREARMS!

Like a psychopath, Castagnoli enjoyed the pain! He SPIT straight into Moxley’s face!

Moxley EXPLODED with three more brutal forearms. Claudio fired back with JAW SHATTERING European Upper that FLATTENED Moxley!

Claudio rained down anvil elbows. He foamed at the mouth as he drove down each strike. Castagnoli took Moxley up top........

Jon Moxley (14:58)
Jon Moxley 2 Points (1-0) | Claudio Castagnoli 0 Points (0-1)

This match was insanely violent, urgent, and felt real. The strikes were all snug and the crowd felt the pain these men dished out and reacted accordingly.

Moxley is a full-blown star. From the entrance to his facial expression, he felt like the most over guy on the roster tonight. He was the center of gravity in this match, and the audience followed his every move.

Despite the clean loss, Claudio came across with his sheer force. Salina is fantastic, and despite being so young – she just gets it. She plays her role as heel manager so well.

There were stretches in the match that emphasized back and forth strikes. This is super common in modern wrestling, but we had A LOT of it on this show. We need to make sure we save those spots so when we get to a match like this – it hits with more weight.

The crowd exploded as AC/DC hit the arena again. Moxley stood tall, blood trickling down his face. His chest heaved.

Mauro Ranallo: Moxley survives. He defeats a killer, and he’s 1-0 and picks up 2 points to close Night One of the Grand Prix.

Chael Sonnen: He’s a lunatic. He’s a wild card. And he may very well be unstoppable!

Salina de la Renta stood STUNNED at ringside. She couldn’t believe Castagnoli had lost...again.

Moxley staggered against the ropes, he looked like a victorious bar room brawler. He roared, raised his arms in triumph and smiled. Mauro Ranallo closed the show:

Jon Moxley has just gone through hell, and came out laughing!

Mama Mia, what a start to the Grand Prix. Goodnight from Houston...we’ll see you next week in Phoenix for Night Two!

Grand Prix night one was a success. Such a stacked card and you think wow. Then you see night two and realise it's just as stacked. Benefits of a created fed I guess haha, but back to my main point, this was a really enjoyable show.

A couple of matches stood out here because they were bigger than just the grand Prix. For example, having recently returned, Lashley had to get a definitve win over Cole to not look like a chump and I LOVED the booking of Cody. Selling the chair shot and using it to give him an out for losing whilst putting over Ibushi is just very smart booking.

The hype for overdrive and in particular Sammy and jungle boy has been good. The picture you painted of them being polar opposites worked a treat here.

Also enjoyed Mundo and co bullying Santos. Fun way to build more heat until Cage returns.

Finally, video packages throughout really made the grand Prix feel like a big deal as it should. So credit to you for that.

Everything hit on this show for me, not a single miss. Great stuff.

WSW OverDrive: Episode 1
5529c357-aedf-4b3b-b9fb-0d2b07b3c6ef.png

Promotion: World Series Wrestling
Date: August 17, 2019
City: Houston, TX
Venue: NRG Arena

Author's Note: For anyone who has read this thread for any degree of time, you know that the content comes and goes with extended periods of absence. My goal is to be more frequent. You'll see me tinker with the match format on OverDrive over the next few weeks, as this is a streaming YouTube show. Detailed match writing will be on Ignition and Netflix shows, and I'm trying to find a very short, recap style of matches on this show. Either way, thanks to all those that have read along the way. I have always loved writing WSW and being a part of this community.

The debut episode of OverDrive began streaming on WSW’s official YouTube channel at 6:05 PM on Saturday, August 17.

The show began with “The Professor” Mike Tenay welcoming the audience from the WSW Control Center:

Hello everyone and welcome to the debut edition of WSW OverDrive on YouTube! I’m Mike Tenay, and I am so thrilled to be here with you! Each Saturday, we’ll be right here at the legendary 6:05 PM timeslot with exclusive matches and interviews.

This past Thursday on Ignition, the 2019 Grand Prix kicked off live on the Paramount Network from Houston, Texas. We will break down those results and set the table for Night Two on this program as well.

Right now, let’s head to the ring for a match featuring two of the newest stars in WSW, Jungle Boy and Sammy Guevara. Both men made their WSW debuts in the Elite 8 Tournament earlier this summer. Three weeks ago on Ignition, we saw Sammy Guevara literally fly in and steal a victory from Jungle Boy in a four way. Tonight, they meet one on one.

Let’s send it to our commentary team of Goldenboy and Veda Scott for the first match in the history of OverDrive!

Match One: “The Best Ever” Sammy Guevara vs. Jungle Boy

The first match of OverDrive was a singles match between Sammy Guevara and Jungle Boy.

Guevara made his entrance first, live vlogging on his way to the ring to a mixture of boos and cheers, with Goldenboy noting that he hails from Houston:

The native Houstonian, has a few hometown fans in attendance tonight...I’m sure you can check out his live steam, he’ll be very happy to tell you how great he is.

Jungle Boy entered next to a loud ovation, slapping hands with fans and soaking in the support.

The match began with a tense face-off in the center of the ring. Guevara SLAPPED Jungle Boy across the face with a smirk, setting off a fast-paced sequence of rope-running reversals. Sammy backflipped over a charging Jungle Boy and posed, but Jungle Boy responded with a picture-perfect springboard Mexican Arm Drag that sent Guevara to the floor.

Not wasting a second, Jungle Boy went for a pescado, but Guevara casually walked away. Jungle Boy vaulted over the ropes and landed on his feet on the apron. Sammy pointed to his head and jawed with the fans at ringside, unaware of what was behind him. Jungle Boy cracked a wry smile and yelled:

Hey Sammy – turn around!

Guevara turned and ATE a PK!

Jungle Boy followed with three consecutive tope suicidas! He flew like a missile, and the crowd jumped to its feet!

Back inside, Jungle Boy climbed the turnbuckles, but Guevara kicked the ropes, crotching him. Guevara followed with a leaping kick to the side of the head, and then showed off his agility...leaping to the top rope and hitting a hurricanrana!

COVER!

1...

2.........

Kick Out!

Guevara grabbed a handful of hair, and whipped Jungle Boy down with a snapmare. He climbed to the top, looking for a moonsault. On the top rope, Guevara posed for the crowd, which gave Jungle Boy enough time to recover and sweep the legs out!

Jungle Boy tied Guevara in the Tree of Woe. Backing up into the opposite corner, Jungle Boy charged and NAILED a hesitation dropkick right to the chest!

Sammy Guevara crumpled out of the corner as Jungle Boy let out a roar and beat his chest, fired up.

Guevara used the ropes to pull himself to his feet. Jungle Boy charged again, but Guevara met him a leaping knee strike that caught the jaw flush!

A hard overhand chop to the spine and a crisp blockbuster off the middle rope earned Guevara another 2 count.

Sammy lit up Jungle Boy with hard knife-edge chops, taunting Jungle Boy with each strike. As his chest turned red, Jungle Boy refused to stay down. The crowd clapped along, willing Jungle Boy to his feet.

Guevara continued to throw chops, but Jungle Boy began to wear them. He fired up to his feet and fired back with machine gun chops of his own!

Guevara was stunned, and Jungle Boy hit the ropes. He ducked a wild lariat attempt and nailed a Stun Dog Millionaire!

Jungle Boy went for his Snare Trap submission, but Guevara countered with a tight roll up!

1...

2......

Kick Out!

Both men scrambled to their feet, but Guevara was a step quicker – hitting a lung blower that sent Jungle Boy down!

Sammy ascended to the top rope, calling for the Shooting Star Press.

He flew.....

Jungle Boy moved.....

Guevara landed on his feet and rolled through. He charged at Jungle Boy again...

POP!

Jungle Boy hit a superkick!

Guevara was staggered, but he didn’t drop. Instead, he rebounded with a roundhouse kick, but Jungle Boy ducked. Jungle Boy grabbed a rear waistlock and went for a German Suplex; however, Guevara flipped over in mid-air and landed on his feet!

Eye to eye once again, the two men engaged in a lightning-fast pin exchange: inside cradles, schoolboys, and flash rolls – each one getting a one-count as the crowd cheered each escape.

In the blink of an eye, Jungle Boy caught Guevara in a cazadora with a front rolling cradle....

He crossed the legs and held on tight.....

3..............................................

Jungle Boy (12:12)

The crowd erupted as Jungle Boy raised his arms in victory. Sammy Guevara was stunned, he pleaded with the referee to no avail, he got caught and he couldn’t believe it. On commentary, Goldenboy exclaimed:

That was lightning in a bottle! In a match where both men were so equal, it was Jungle Boy who found the winning edge and he just SHOCKED Sammy Guevara!

Veda, I can tell you this – the future of WSW looks very bright!

Once again, the two men locked eyes. Jungle Boy extended his hand in a show of sportsmanship. Sammy looked down at the hand and back into the eyes of Jungle Boy...

He KICKED the hand away and stormed out the ring. Boos sounded out at his actions.

Guevara went outside and slammed his hand on the timekeeper’s table:

GIVE ME MY DAMN PHONE!

Guevara snatched his iPhone and stormed to the back, fuming.

Jungle Boy climbed the ropes and posed as the crowd cheered in approval.

Strong match that achieved its goal of showcasing both men. Jungle Boy has a babyface fire and natural charisma that the crowd is connecting to each time he wrestles.

Sammy is a natural heel, and his explosive offense and unreal body control make him stand out.

This was a sprint, and both guys are going to need to learn to let the match breath at times, but this was a great tone-setter. The future is bright for both, and we have a good, young foundation with both of them.

Back inside the WSW Control Center, Mike Tenay stood by:

What an impressive victory for Jungle Boy. At just 22 years old, he is the youngest member of the WSW roster, and it is going to be a real joy to watch his career unfold in front of our eyes.

On Thursday night, the 2019 Grand Prix began on Ignition, and this annual tournament – designed to showcase the best of professional wrestling – did not disappoint.

In the A Block, WSW World Champion Kenny Omega defeated Bandido in a breathtaking match, “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles beat Austin Aries, and Will Ospreay took down Ricochet.

As Tenay spoke, highlights from each of these matches are shown. We see:
  • Omega hitting the V-Trigger and One Winged Angel
  • Styles landing the Styles Clash
  • Ospreay connecting on the Hidden Blade
After one round, Omega, Styles and Ospreay have all earned 2 points respectively.

A_Block_Results.jpg

Now, we bring you exclusive interviews from the locker room in Houston for thoughts from “The Aerial Assassin” Will Ospreay and the World Champion, Kenny Omega.

Backstage at the NRG Arena in Houston, Will Ospreay paced back and forth. He was still in his gear, sweat on his brow. His voice was fill with conviction and urgency as he spoke directly to the camera.

I said from day one, that I came to WSW to elevate myself and this company. This is the best professional wrestling organization on God’s green earth, and if you don’t believe me, all you have to do is open your eyes and watch any of these matches tonight to see why.

You want passion?! You want innovation?! You want professional wrestling at its absolute PEAK?! It’s happening right here. And I’m not just here to be a part of it – I'm here to be the BEST in it!

Beating Ricochet was step one.

But this Grand Prix? This is EVERYTHING to me.

Every match, every night, every point – it all counts. And I’m not stopping until I’m standing across the ring from the World Champion at November Reign.

Ospreay. Grand Prix Winner. That’s destiny.

Kenny Omega sat in the corner of his locker room at the NRG Arena, still in his gear. A white towel was draped around his neck. The WSW World Championship rested beside him, gleaming in the locker room light. He spoke with quiet intensity – composed but burning with passion:

This Grand Prix tournament means a lot of things to a lot of people. Everyone has their own interpretations of that meaning, but we’re all putting our best foot forward.

Why?

Well, that’s because the Grand Prix is the greatest tournament in professional wrestling. I have something to prove. Not just as the World Champion, not just as the greatest tournament wrestler in the world, but I have something to prove as the Best Bout Machine. Something to prove as a Canadian. Something to prove as a Winnipegger.

Something to prove as a man who CHOSE WSW to be his home.

We’re all judged under a microscope...a magnifying glass. As soon as we slip up. As soon as we make one small mistake...we are criticized. We are crucified in the eyes of those that cower from change. We are relegated to a distant second place.

That’s my why.

That’s why I refuse to be anything other than the best in the world. That’s the weight that comes with being the World Champion and carrying this belt.
That’s what drove me tonight, and that’s what will drive me throughout this tournament. Tonight was the first 2 points, but it doesn’t stop here. We’re going to keep going. This truck keeps rolling, because the point isn’t just to make the Finals. The point isn’t to become the first reigning World Champion to win the Grand Prix. The point isn’t to become a legend.

The point...is to become UNDENIABLE.

The point is to leave a legacy that people look back on and say, Kenny Omega CHANGED pro wrestling. Not because I dared to be different, but because night in and night out...no one could stand on my level.

I am the WSW World Champion...and I will become the Grand Prix Winner.

One down...five more to go!

The A Block rolls on for Night Two this Thursday on Ignition, live from Phoenix, Arizona.

Now, we turn our attention to the tag team division.

In recent weeks, we have seen RUSH of CMLL recruit his younger brother, Dragon Lee, to join him in a quest for domination and gold around the world. In doing so, La Faccion Ingobernable...the LFI has arrived in WSW.

Right now, let’s see LFI in action against The Union here on OverDrive!

Match Two: The Union vs. LFI

The second match of OverDrive was a tag team match between The Union and LFI. The Union consists of Mathieu St-Jacques and Thomas Dubois, and they received very little reaction from the Houston crowd.

The lights dimmed, as RUSH and Dragon Lee emerged, clad in all black. The crowd buzzed with curiosity. On commentary Veda Scott and Goldenboy noted:

Veda Scott: You hear the letters L-F-I in Mexico, and it sends a chill through locker rooms. Violence, dominance, legacy – and now they’re here in WSW.

Goldenboy: This is a team that doesn’t just want to beat you. They want to hurt you, and they enjoy doing it. We’ve know this about RUSH, the book has been written on him, but now he’s recruited his brother, Dragon Lee, one of the best luchadores in the world to stand by his side. I think the term dangerous may be an understatement.

LFI pounced before the bell rang. RUSH and Dragon Lee moved like lightning and hit thunder. They dragged the brawl to ringside, gouging at eyes and slamming bodies into the guardrail.

As the match got into the ring, LFI dominated the tempo. RUSH imposed his will with a brutal discus forearm to Mathieu St-Jacques and an impressive powerslam on the massive Thomas Dubois.

Dragon Lee hit precision strikes and rapid combinations, and the brothers showcased sharp double teams, including a low dropkick to the knees of Dubois by Dragon Lee, followed by a stiff dropkick to the face by RUSH.

The Union got a brief window. As RUSH set up for the Bull’s Horns, St-Jacques tripped him up from the floor and dragged him under the ropes. St-Jacques whipped RUSH into the guardrail.

This allowed The Union to isolate Dragon Lee – hitting back to back corner splashes followed by an enziguri/flatliner combination that drew a 2 count!

The rally didn’t last though. As St-Jacques ran the ropes, RUSH cut him off with a knee to the back from the apron. He then yanked St-Jacques under the ropes and DROVE him into the guardrail with a loud CLANG!

Back inside, Dubois went to the middle rope and tried for a Vader Bomb.....

Dragon Lee moved and Dubois CRASHED – the impact rattled the ring.

Dragon Lee tagged in RUSH, and LFI struck once again.

RUSH ducked a lariat from Dubois, allowing Dragon Lee to pop him with an enziguri from the apron. Dubois grabbed his face and staggered backwards...right into a German Suplex from RUSH!

SPRINGBOARD METEROA FROM DRAGON LEE!

Dragon Lee then wi[ed out St-Jacques with a tope con hilo!

This left RUSH all alone with Thomas Dubois.......

BULL’S HORNS!

1....

2..........

3................................

LFI (6:38)

RUSH showed no respect for the fallen Thomas Dubois, unceremoniously booting him from the ring to the floor.

LFI climbed the corners of the ring and shoved their fists to the sky. On commentary Goldenboy said:

Speed, power, and attitude. LFI has arrived in WSW, and they are sending clear message to the tag team division.

Efficient dominance by LFI. RUSH looked like a tank, and LFI’s aggression was the clear story. Good showcase match for a team that is still being introduced to our audience.

One On One with Jenn Decker aired next.

A sleek, modern interview is revealed with dim backlighting. The Elite 8 Trophy was on display behind two leather chairs. Jenn Decker sat across from Alexander Hammerstone, who was dressed in a crisp, tailored suit with sunglasses resting on his collar. His posture was relaxed, but confidence radiated off of him.

Jenn Decker: Welcome to One On One, where each week on OverDrive, I sit down for exclusive conversations with the stars of WSW. My guest this week is the winner of the Elite 8 Tournament – Alexander Hammerstone.

Alexander Hammerstone: (grinning) Damn right. You got the top prize on week one. Good booking.

Decker: Let’s start from the beginning. You’ve got a background in competitive bodybuilding and power lifting. What made you decide to transition to pro wrestling?

Hammerstone: Look at me, Jenn. I’m the perfect form of human nature. Greek statues were modeled after guys like me, and I’m only getting better. But I didn’t just want to look like this – I wanted people to fear this when I walked into a room.

I love lifting. I love training. I love being bigger and stronger than everyone else. But you know what I love more than all of that...money.

I’m here for three reasons, Jenn – to win matches, win titles, and put as much money in my bank account as possible.

That’s not ego either. That’s ROI – Return On Intimidation.

Decker: Let’s talk about results. You won the Elite 8 Tournament. What does that tournament and this trophy mean to you and your career?

Hammerstone: It means validation. Everyone wants to talk about being the Ace...well let me tell you, I was the Ace of the WSW Dojo, and it is only a matter of time before I’m the Ace of WSW. And that doesn’t make me arrogant...it makes me correct. Shane McMahon knows what he has – he saw dollar signs the second I walked in the door.

Decker: You’ve announced that you are on the hunt for a manager. We saw Dahlia Black scouting your match a couple weeks ago. Where are you in this process, and what do you hope to gain by signing with a manager?

Hammerstone: Jenn, I’m good enough to do everything on my own. That’s not in question. But I’m also a businessman. I’m here to make money.
So yeah – I want the best manager this sport has to help me get to the top faster. I’m all ears – they can scout, they can make their pitch, and I’ll make a decision when I feel like the offer meets my talent.

But understand this -- I don't come cheap, and whoever gets on board is riding a rocket ship that’s already taking off.

I’m not just the future of WSW. I’m the NOW!

Hammerstone adjusted his cufflinks and leaned back confidently as the camera faded to black.

Back inside the WSW Control Center, Mike Tenay said:

Self-assured, but filled with limitless potential...Alexander Hammerstone will be in action next week here on OverDrive.

We shift now to the WSW Women’s Division which has been dominated by the World Champion, Tessa Blanchard and DiamondTenille Dashwood and Nixon Newell. For nearly a year, Blanchard has reigned supreme. However, Deonna Purrazzo how vowed to surgically dismantle Diamond – one by one.

The “Virtusoa” already holds victories over both Dashwood and Newell, and her eyes are now firmly locked on the World Champion.

Tonight, Nixon Newell looks to bounce back and remind the world why she’s the most feared striker in women’s wrestling.

Match Three: Marti Belle vs. Nixon Newell (w/ Tenille Dashwood)

The third match of Ignition was a singles match between Marti Belle and Nixon Newell. Belle received no reaction from the crowd during her entrance. Nixon Newell entered second, accompanied by Tenille Dashwood. On commentary, Goldenboy noted:

Nixon Newell returned in May at Undisputed after a ten-month absence due to a catastrophic knee injury. She has vowed to make up for lost time, and she has certainly returned with a vengeance.

From the opening bell, Newell wasted no time – charging Belle and dropping her with a stiff running boot. She mounted her in the corner and hammered down forearms before ripping into Belle’s chest with blistering kicks. The crowd ooh’ed as Newell’s strikes echoed throughout NRG Arena.

After a snapmare and a PK to the spine, Newell dropped Belle with a Saito Suplex. Newell smirked as she stood over her fallen opponent before hitting a wicked sliding forearm to the jaw!

With glazed over eyes, Belle staggered to the corner and pulled herself up with the ropes, but Newell swarmed again with running double knees!

Belle collapsed to the mat, as Tenille Dashwood mockingly clapped at ringside.

Newell yelled:

Goodnight, Bitch!

SHINING WIZARD!

1...

2.................

3....................................

Nixon Newell (3:27)

Newell stood tall, glaring into the camera. Tenille Dashwood raised her arm as Goldenboy said:

Nixon Newell calls herself the most dangerous striker in women’s wrestling, and after watching that performance, it’s hard to disagree with her!

This was an effective squash. We will need to rebuild Newell after her loss to Deonna, and she looked vicious, fast, and dangerous – exactly what we are billing her to be. No wasted motion, and commentary sold her journey and alignment perfectly. Belle did her job.

Back inside the Control Center, Mike Tenay stood by a large monitor:

Back inside the Control Center, and now we take a look at the B Block from Night One of the Grand Prix.

As Tenay speaks, footage rolls of the Kota Ibushi/Cody match.

In perhaps the upset of the night, Kota Ibushi pinned Intercontinental Champion Cody, earning two points and handing Cody his first singles loss of 2019.

Footage airs of Ethan Carter’s chair shot from the 8/1 Ignition along with pictures of the wound on Cody’s head.

Let’s not forget – Cody entered the Grand Prix just two weeks removed from a savage assault at the hands of Ethan Carter. That steel chair shot to the skull required twelve staples, and yet Cody chose to compete anyway. But in a tournament this grueling, you have to wonder: how much gas is truly left in his tank?

And make no mistake – Ibushi didn’t just come to play spoiler. He’s in this tournament to win.

Footage shifts to highlights of the Bobby Lashley/Adam Cole match.

Bobby Lashley earned a massive measure of revenge – forcing Adam Cole to pass out in the center of the ring. Throughout his time in WSW, Lashley has been an unstoppable force of nature. Cole, one of the favorites entering the Grand Prix, now finds himself in an early 0-1 hole.

Footage shifts to the brutal Jon Moxley/Claudio Castagnoli match that saw both men batter each other bloody.

And finally, in one of the most brutal fights we’ve seen in WSW to date – Jon Moxley defeated Claudio Castagnoli. It was a violent, unforgiving war. And once again, Moxley proved that he is not the man the world once knew – he's more dangerous than ever before.

After going undefeated for over nine months, Claudio Castagnoli has now dropped back-to back matches – at SummerFest to Kenny Omega, and now to Moxley.

B_Block_Results.jpg

We cut backstage to a hallway of the NRG Arena. Cody sat slouched on a road case, sweat-soaked and bruised; his hair was matted to his forehead. The Intercontinental Title rested across his lap. A medical assistant approached with an ice pack – Cody waved them off without a word. The hallway was quiet. Cody finally looked up and spoke to the camera.

This is going to sound like such a bizarre story, but I can remember being a kid...I was in seventh grade and my dad used to coach our football team. We lost the last game of the season to the Walton Raiders, and that was it. The season was over. We weren’t going to the playoffs.

At that point, as a kid, you typically think – hey, it didn’t go our way this year, but we’ll get ready for the banquet and celebrate our efforts.

I can remember my dad standing in front of us that night and saying, I have a bad taste in my mouth.

It’s similar, because tonight...I lost, and I have a bad taste in my mouth.

Wrestling is about the ones who win. Tonight, Kota Ibushi kicked my ass. No excuses from my end. Ibushi is one of the best wrestlers in the world, and he has been for a very long time.

Cody’s hand rested on the Intercontinental Title.

I can promise you this, Ibushi-san – once this Grand Prix is over...I will defend this Intercontinental Championship against you. You earned that.

But with that said – the Grand Prix didn’t end tonight. There’s four more weeks left, and I’m going to take a couple days to heal...but I promise you, next Thursday night in Phoenix...I will come out and fight like my life depends on it.

Everything I’ve said about wins and losses mattering – the Grand Prix exemplifies that. The winner’s purse is real. Winners sit in first class. Winners get their name etched into history on that Grand Prix trophy.

Cody leaned forward – his tone lowered.

And there’s an elephant in the room, too. The devil on my shoulder...Ethan Carter.

It is painfully obvious to me that I’ve got to dance with that devil one more time. All I have to do it feel the back of my head to be reminded of that.

Cody ran his hand across the scar under his platinum blonde hair.

Ethan...I’m not hard to find. Trust me. I want you as bad as you want me. And this time? It’s gonna be final. It’s gonna be permanent.

Cody exhaled deeply.

For now...it’s on to next week. The biggest match is the next one.

Backstage, Jon Moxley paced back and forth. He was sweaty with dried blood on his forehead.

That’s one down! I’ll get it done however it needs to get done.

That match...

That match was liberating for me. That is the match I dreamed of for years! Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli in a fist fight till one man can’t stand up any more!

I added a few new scars to these knuckles...call them trophies of big game hunting.

I know what stands in front of me next week too. Adam Cole – the ultimate opportunist and a former World Champion and Intercontinental Champion. He’s also backed into a corner...he’s 0-1 and I know he’s going to throw anything and everything at me.

Adam Cole and I are a lot alike. We’re two men that would rather burn to the ground than sit by and settle for second place.

Match 2 – the irresistible force and the immovable object.

Two negative ions.

The old saying, something’s gotta give...well Adam, and I ain’t never gonna give!

Back in the Control Center, Mike Tenay promoted Night Two of Ignition:

Thursday night, LIVE on the Paramount Network, it’s Night Two of the 2019 Grand Prix!

Night_Two_Grand_Prix_Schedule.jpg

And now, for our final match on this inaugural episode of WSW OverDrive – we will see two tag team that are looking to rise in the ranks and challenge the Death Busters for the World Tag Team Titles.

Since forming last year, the LA Express has left its mark on WSW, but maybe never more so than in recent weeks with the brutal betrayal from within their own ranks.

Highlights on Johnny Mundo and Taya Valkyrie’s vicious beatdown on Brian Cage from the 8/1 Ignition are shown.

Ever the megalomaniac, Johnny Mundo is hellbent on capturing gold no matter what. Tonight, he and Mike Bennett will team together against the winners of the 2019 Global Cup, the South Pacific Power Trip.

Match Four: South Pacific Power Trip (w/ Dahlia Black) vs. LA Express (w/ Taya Valkyrie)

The fourth match of OverDrive was a tag team match between the South Pacific Power Trip (TK Cooper and Travis Banks) and the LA Express (Johnny Mundo and Mike Bennett).

The crowd gave South Pacific Power Trip a respectful reaction. Goldenboy says:

This is one of the most underrated tag teams in the game today. That Kiwi strong style – you'll feel it for days.

LA Express entered to a chorus of boos. Johnny Mundo strutted out like a movie star on premier night, soaking it all in. Taya Valkyrie matched his energy and posed arrogantly. Mike Bennett walked behind them, more subdued.

Veda Scott: This group is everything wrong with Los Angeles. Let’s not forget – Mike Bennett didn’t take part in that ambush on Brian Cage two weeks ago on Ignition. You can just see it in his face – he's not totally buying all of Mundo’s Hollywood ego.

Goldenboy: That may be true, Veda; however, when the checks clear – Bennett plays the game.

South Pacific Power Trip started fast, showcasing their teamwork and quick offense:
  • Cooper hit a deep arm drag on Bennett.
  • Banks tagged in and laid in brutal forearms and a stiff dropkick.
  • Cooper came off the middle rope with a high-revolution tijeras.
Bennett tagged out after the early flurry. Mundo got whipped into the corner, but he cut off TK Cooker with a boot on a corner charge, followed by the Flying Chuck.

Mundo ran over and knocked Travis Banks off the apron and distracted the referee, allowing Mike Bennett to PLANT TK Cooper with a back suplex onto the apron!

LA Express cut the ring in half and worked over TK Cooper:
  • Vertical suplex from Bennett
  • Back elbow from Mundo.
  • Double team sidewalk slam for a cover...
1...

2..........

Travis Banks broke it up!

As the referee admonished Travis Banks and urged him back to his corner, Taya Valkrie got in a cheap shot – choking TK Cooper from the floor!

Mundo lifted TK Cooper for a powerslam, showboating while doing so. This cost him though, as Cooper was able to counter into a flatliner!

Cooper made the hot tag to Travis Banks!

Banks hit the ring and struck anything that moved:
  • Forearms to Mundo. Kicks to Bennett.
  • Jumping knee to Mundo!
  • Jumping knee to Bennett!
With the LA Express staggered into opposite corners, Banks was perpetual motion: shotgun dropkick to Bennett! Cannonball to Mundo!

The crowd got behind the intensity of Travis Banks.

Banks tagged Cooper, and they set up for the Gatling Gun on Mike Bennett......

Taya Valkyrie got onto the apron for the distraction!

The crowd rained down boos, but the distraction worked perfectly, as Bennett slipped loose and took down TK Cooper with a neckbreaker!

Travis Banks charged across the ring and took Johnny Mundo off the apron with a springboard dropkick. He lowbridged a charging Mike Bennett, sending both members of the LA Express to the floor.

Banks revved up, hit the ropes.....

TOPE SUICIDA......................

NO!

BENNETT AND MUNDO INTERCEPTED HIM WITH A DOUBLE SUPERKICK!

Banks crashed and burned into a heap on the floor!

Back into the ring, Mike Bennett turned, and TK Cooper flew off the top with a high crossbody.....

BUT BENNETT DROPKICKED HIM IN MID-AIR!

Bennett hit the Divine Intervention (Samoan Driver) and went for the cover.....

MIKE, TAG ME IN! I’LL FINISH IT!

Johnny Mundo yelled for the apron and slapped at the top turnbuckle, demanding the tag.

Bennett looked reluctant, he had the match won.....

He paused for a moment. Shaking his head, Bennett tagged in Mundo.....

Mundo hit the El Fin de Mundo!

1......

2...........................

3....................................................

LA Express (9:29)

Taya Valkyrie jumped into Mundo’s arms, and the couple celebrated like they just an Oscar. Mundo shouted:

Back on top baby! We run this damn show! Just like I told you, Mike!

Bennett looked hesitant for a brief second...eventually he joined in and had his hand raised in victory by Taya Valkyrie.

On commentary, Goldenboy said:

The glitz and glam of the LA Express pick up a win, but you know somewhere Brian Cage is watching.

Solid, classic TV match. Goal is to continue to build heat on the LA Express while allowing this story to flow. Strong execution, and Mundo is really thriving in this role. Taya is excellent as well, and the crowd HATES them.

South Pacific Power Trip are technically very good. They lack charisma, and they haven’t connected with our audience; however, the crowd did get behind Travis Banks’ intensity and strikes.

OverDrive wrapped up with one final trip to the Control Center and Mike Tenay:

Alright, there you have it – the first edition of WSW OverDrive is in the books!

Don’t forget to tune in each Thursday night – WSW Ignition airs live on the Paramount Network at 8 PM. Grand Prix Night Two is on Thursday, and you don’t want to miss it!

We’ll see you next week!

I actually really like the idea of Overdrive as the show to showcase some younger guys or talent you just don't have time for on Ignition. Works for me. As does the 6:05pm start time... Felt kind of fitting for two relatively new guys in Guevara and Jungle Boy to go at it in the first match. Jungle Boy winning is good to get one back at Sammy after the Fatal Four Way, and Guevara refusing the handshake afterwards automatically puts over the type of character hs is compared to Jungle Boy. Simple yet effective stuff.

I don't have a lot to say about them so I'll just say all the Grand Prix promos were solid and did their job. I think my favourite one was the Cody one, just because of the added element of losing and now defending his title, whilst still dealing with EC3.

The other three matches on the show felt like givens (that's not a bad thing considering this shows a B show, just an observation. No issues from me with LFI, the AWESOME LA Express and Nixon Newell getting the win.

Standout for me was the One on One segment. Great to get a bit more from Hammerstone, and I don't mind the motivation just being money. You actually wrote his promo so well that he doesn't even need a manager, but I am still intrigued to see where the manager thing goes. ROI is a hard line to. Not sure if it's an original or something Hammerstone has said before, but it's awesome.

A pretty fun first episode here, and as always, it's amazing to have your back. Please stick around, sir.

News & Rumors

August 21, 2019

  • The pro wrestling world officially changed on 8/20 with WWE announcing that NXT would be going live weekly from 8PM - 10PM on Tuesday nights on the USA Network on 10/1 – ushering in the Tuesday Night Wars.

    • The word started getting out after the 8/15 NXT tapings at Full Sail University, where Triple H told the wrestlers about a big television announcement coming soon. Originally, the announcement was to take place on Raw; however, WWE elected to break the news via an official press release on Tuesday morning.

    • WSW announced earlier this summer that Ignition would move to Tuesday nights on the Paramount Network. This move was done for two reasons. First, to avoid competition with the NFL (the league is set to run a full slate of games on Thursdays this season). Second, Smackdown’s move to Friday nights on Fox opened the door. Tuesday is viewed as a much more advantageous night for television than Thursday due to less competition from sports and scripted sitcoms and dramas.

    • With WSW’s growth over the last year; especially, with ticket sales and television ratings, it was only a matter of time before WWE made a serious effort to counter them.

    • Originally, FS1 was believed to be the landing spot for NXT; however, the USA Network came in with a stronger offer. WWE programming is by far the strongest ratings producer for the USA Network, and sources close to the situation indicate that USA Network was eager to gain more WWE content to fill the void left by Smackdown.

    • The deal is groundbreaking, as NXT is now an economically profitable brand, which it was not previously. However, all negotiations were primarily done to counter WSW’s move to Tuesday nights. The benefit for WWE here is that USA Network is a much stronger station than FS1, and it is viewed in more homes than Paramount Network. Those within WWE feel they have a “leg up” before the head-to-head competition begins on 10/1 due to the overall viewership of USA Network compared to Paramount Network, and Tuesday is already an established “wrestling night” on the station.

    • Paramount Network brands itself as a “premium cable network.” The smash hit Yellowstone and WSW Ignition are the clear-cut ratings draws for the channel, as all other programming pales in comparison.

    • The general feeling was that WSW would beat an FS1 version of NXT, but the views have changed with NXT on USA. WWE will promote the show heavily on Raw, the most watched wrestling show on television, giving it an advantage in drawing fans and creating awareness.

    • NXT is set to air two “specials” on 9/17 and 9/24 following Smackdown (the final two Smackdown shows on USA Network) from 10 PM – 11PM before beginning in earnest on 10/1.

    • NXT will continue under its same leadership structure, with Paul Levesque in charge. For now, Vince McMahon will remain focused on Raw, Smackdown, and the launch of the XFL. It is almost a guarantee that if Ignition outperforms NXT, McMahon will get more involved, and main roster stars will begin appearing on the show.

    • At this point, NXT will continue to air from Full Sail University in Orlando. Optically, this will be the first difference between the two products. Ignition tours live weekly and runs in arenas with 4,000 – 6,500 fans in attendance. Full Sail’s maximum capacity is 400. The ratings battle will determine everything, and those within the industry note that if NXT begins to lose in the ratings, taking the show on the road would be one of the first changes made.

    • Outside of PPVs, NXT was one of the most watched programs on the WWE Network, and the show will continue to air on the platform, but the episodes will debut on Wednesday nights (one-day delay).

    • It is believed that the top tier NXT talent will receive new contracts with a significant financial increase.

  • When discussing the news on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said:
Reality is, this is the first head-to-head professional wrestling war we’ve seen since TNA’s failed attempt in 2010 to compete with Raw on Monday nights.

That was a really poor move, and it hurt TNA. This one...this one is different. WSW is much better run than TNA ever was, and it is a much stronger product and television brand. WSW is also hot right now. A big part of their growth and popularity has come from the fact that they aren’t WWE. There is a strong segment of the pro wrestling fanbase that desperately wants WSW to succeed to provide an alternative to WWE and the monopoly they have on the industry. Going head-to-head only adds fuel to the fire.

The ratings are going to be the key metric, and I expect both shows will do strong numbers the first few weeks. In the long run, the real winner is going to be the company that creates stars, markets them well, and builds compelling storylines and angles that people want to watch and pay money to see.
  • Big picture; the announcement this week will steer the professional wrestling narrative to NXT vs. WSW, or more accurately, WWE vs. WSW. The real losers in this situation are Impact, ROH, and the North American expansion of New Japan.

  • WSW announced a sellout for the 10/8 Ignition in Baltimore at the UMBC Events Center. The building is smaller, with a set-up of 4,500. This comes a week after the 10/1 Ignition (the first head-to-head show with NXT) sold out in Philadelphia with 7,700 tickets.

    • WSW also announced Ignition shows on 10/22 in Louisville at the Broadbent Arena and 10/29 in Indianapolis at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum.

    • These buildings stay in line with WSW’s goal of running 5,000 – 8,000 seat arenas for weekly TV. The Broadbent Arena will be set up for 5,200, and the Indiana Farmers Coliseum will be set up for 5,500.

  • The 8/15 Ignition: Grand Prix Night One did 890,000 viewers and a .36 in the key 18-49 demo. Viewership was up 5.3%, and the demo rating was up slightly from a .35 the week prior. The show finished fourth on cable behind an NFL Pre-Season game on ESPN, Jersey Shore Family Vacation, and SportsCenter.

    • This was the highest viewership and demo rating since the 7/18 Ignition 200 show, which was also the fall out show from SummerFest.

  • The 8/19 Raw did 2,534,000 viewers and a .81 in the key demo. Viewership was down 7.1% and the demo rating was down 11.9% from last week’s fallout of SummerSlam. Still, the demo rating was the best since the Raw Reunion show and the 4/15 draft show.

    • Under the direction of Paul Heyman, several trends have emerged with Raw. There is no longer a huge decline in the third hour. Instead, the show grows throughout hour two and falls slowly in hour three. Earlier this summer, Raw was seeing 20% drops from hour one to hour three, this week that drop was only 4.9%

    • Raw finished second on cable, behind NFL Pre-Season Football on ESPN

  • The 8/20 Smackdown did 2,142,000 viewers and a .68 in the key demo. The show was down 1% in viewers but up slightly in the demo.

    • Smackdown was first for the night on cable.

  • AAA officially announced their 9/15 show has been moved to the Hulu Theater rather than Madison Square Garden. This had been expected for some time, as only 2,000 tickets have been sold. Cain Velasquez will still wrestle on this show and the 10/13 show in Los Angeles. The show will be an iPPV on Fite TV.

  • In interesting news from NJPW, Katsuyori Shibata is attempting to get cleared to wrestle again. Shibata, once one of the best wrestlers in the world, has been the head trainer at New Japan’s LA Dojo for the past couple of years. He trains with his students, but the big question is whether he can ever be healthy enough to take blows to the head. Shibata made his emotional return to NJPW at the G1 Finals and took part in an angle with KENTA.

  • Tony Schiavone and WSW reached a deal this week, and he will become a member of their broadcast team. It is unknown right now as to what Schiavone’s role will be. He is currently signed to MLW as well, and he will remain with the promotion as WSW and MLW reached an agreement.

    • Once the longtime voice of WCW, Schiavone’s career in wrestling largely ended in 2001 following WWE’s purchase of the promotion. He made a couple appearances in the early days of TNA, but he moved on to sports broadcasting – working for the University of Georgia’s football radio broadcasts and the Gwinnett Braves (minor league affiliate of the Atlanta Braves). Schiavone hosts What Happened When with Conrad Thompson, and the success of the podcast led to MLW bringing him on board in 2018.

    • Schiavone and Mike Tenay will be members of the same broadcast team for the first time since 2001. It is clear that WSW is trying to appeal to the lapsed fan, and Tenay recently debuted as the host of OverDrive, WSW’s streaming YouTube show.

    • Interestingly enough, WWE recently made overtures towards Schiavone once word got out that WSW was interested in hiring him. Tenay was the original person slated to be the General Manager of 205 Live, but obviously no deal was made.

  • Veda Scott has been signed by WSW as part of their broadcast team, and she made her debut as the color commentator on OverDrive, working with Goldenboy.

  • Roman Reigns recently signed a new multi-year deal with WWE. This should come as no surprise, as Reigns is said to be one of the few major stars in WWE who has never shown an interest in WSW.

  • Ticket sales for the 9/9 Raw in Madison Square Garden have picked up, and internally the expectation is the show will sell out (the building will be set up for 12,000 – 13,000). The 9/10 Smackdown has not seen a significant uptick in ticket sales, and WWE has started to advertise the Undertaker for the show in an attempt to spark interest.

    • This is the first time in ten years WWE has run TV at MSG. As has been reported here, the onus for the move was to get the “jump” on the building to try and halt momentum for WSW’s debut at MSG with the 11/30 November Reign show. In the end, the move didn’t work as November Reign was an instant sell out with over 16,000 tickets sold.

  • CM Punk continues to be a popular topic of conversation in wrestling. There has been speculation, given his recent comments about WSW, that the door could be open for a WWE return. Sources within WWE vehemently deny this; however, any talks with Punk would be kept secret and within a very tight circle.

    • Interestingly enough, one of Punk’s representatives at CAA reached out to FOX about the possibility of Punk serving as a co-host for WWE’s upcoming talk show on FS1. In this case, Punk’s contract would be with FOX rather than WWE.

    • The reality is, there are very strong opinions on Punk within the WWE office due to his departure from the company in 2014 and the subsequent lawsuits. Punk is unique though, as his popularity has risen despite not appearing in a major wrestling promotion in five years. Punk and Chris Jericho are two major chess pieces that remain on the board as a full-scale wrestling war begins.

  • On his podcast this week, Edge said that he would like to wrestle another match; however, he doesn’t believe that WWE would allow it. Edge noted that his doctors believe his neck is as strong as it's been since he retired, and he has been rehabbing extensively and had been using stem cell therapy.

  • Advertised for the 8/22 Ignition: Grand Prix Night Two:
    • A Block: Will Ospreay vs. Bandido
    • A Block: Austin Aries vs. Kenny Omega
    • A Block: Ricochet vs. AJ Styles
    • B Block: Kota Ibushi vs. Bobby Lashley
    • B Block: Cody vs. Claudio Castagnoli
    • B Block: Adam Cole vs. Jon Moxley

  • The house show tour this week will be 8/23 in Tucson.

WSW Ignition: 2019 Grand Prix Night Two (Episode 205)
ICG_word_gradient-768x138.png
Promotion: World Series Wrestling
Date: August 22, 2019
City: Phoenix, AZ
Venue: Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum
Attendance: 5,400

The 8/22 Ignition opened with a video package.

We see the crowd inside NRG Arena in Houston on their feet, cell phones aloft, and the energy comes through the screen.

The pulse of No Regrets by KSHMR begins.

A title card reads: Night One – The Journey Begins

Highlights are shown of Will Ospreay and Ricochet. We see them mirror each other in a ballet of athleticism. This leads to a slow motion shot of Ospreay’s Hidden Blade connecting.

We hear the voice of Mauro Ranallo, narrating the package:

When you’re taking that first step towards forever...all you need is one moment.

One chance.

One brief opportunity to gain the early edge.

We see Adam Cole attacking the elbow of Bobby Lashley. The camera flashes to Lashley roaring back, locking in the Head and Arm Choke.
Cole’s hand twitched before fading to black and the sound of the bell ringing is heard.

We see Kenny Omega and Bandido trading bombs under the lights. The One Winged Angel connected as the frame freezes on Omega’s determined stare.

Yesterday and tomorrow can be completely different stories.

Highlights are shown of Kota Ibushi striking into Cody like lightning. The Intercontinental Champion fired back with heart, absorbing every blow, until Ibushi’s head kick and Boma Ye landed in slow motion. The sound dropped out, leaving only the impact and the crowd’s gasp.

We see Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli, both bleeding, refusing to fall. The camera cuts to a fan clutching their head in disbelief. Moxley hit the Death Rider, and the frame freezes to show his blood mixed with sweat as the music swelled to a crescendo.

Tonight, we head to the desert...Phoenix, Arizona.

As the beat dropped, sit down interviews flickered across the screen.

Kenny Omega: In a tournament like this, it’s so important to get off to a good start. But that’s all it is...a start. The real work is yet to be done.

Bobby Lashley: It’s about stacking points, stacking wins. You can’t get too high or too low. You have to dominate the moment in front of your face.

AJ Styles: I’ve been on both sides of this. Whether you’re up or down, you’ve got to find a way to stay even mentally. These are the best wrestlers in the world. The second you start celebrating yesterday, you will lose today.

Cody: All that matters is the now. Respond, respond, respond. That’s all I’ve been telling myself.

Adam Cole: Experience matters. Losing on Night One? That haunts me. That keeps me up at night. This is MY moment. Everyone else can go straight to hell – this is MY tournament!

The music reached its final refrain as a wide, aerial shot of the Phoenix skyline at night is shown. We hear the voice of Mauro Ranallo one more time:

Welcome to Night Two of the Grand Prix...

The video package faded to black, and then – and ERUPTION of color. Pyro exploded inside the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum, as the camera swept over the crowd. Mauro Ranallo and Chael Sonnen welcomed us to the show:

Mauro Ranallo: Good evening, everyone, and welcome to WSW Ignition! We are LIVE from Phoenix, Arizona for Night Two of the 2019 Grand Prix! Tonight, six more tournament bouts as the world’s elite continue their pursuit of immortality!

Chael Sonnen: We saw upsets and some absolute chaos last week in Houston – and that was just the beginning. Every point, every match, every second counts in this tournament. You can’t take a night off, Mauro.

The announcers ran down the standings and previewed the card for tonight.

Night_Two_Grand_Prix_Schedule.jpg

Match One: A Block – Bandido (0-1; 0 Points) vs. “The Aerial Assassin” Will Ospreay (1-0; 2 Points)

The first match of Ignition was an A Block match between Bandido and Will Ospreay. The crowd cheered the arrival of Bandido as Narco blared out in Phoenix.

The energy of the crowd pulsed as Finale by Madeon sounded out for the arrival of Will Ospreay.

Mauro Ranallo and Chael Sonnen set the scene on commentary:

Mauro Ranallo: If you could bottle the spirit of this tournament – it would look like this match right here.

Chael Sonnen: These are two international stars that have headlined shows around the world. Now here they are, on the biggest stage of their life in WSW, and they are about to put on a show.

The bell rang, and the men circled each other. Their eyes locked and they shook hands in respect, earning cheers from the Phoenix crowd.

They locked up, trading holds before rolling through a dazzling series of reversals – arm drags, kip ups, and counters that left them in a stalemate. The crowd applauded again.

Ospreay accelerated. The pace quickened with a rapid-fire rope running sequence. Ospreay tried a handspring off the ropes, but Bandido caught him and pressed him overhead!

Bandido dropped Ospreay onto the canvas and nailed a standing moonsault that scored an early 1 count!

Ospreay rolled outside for a brief moment to collect himself. Back inside, the two men ran through another sequence of counters and reversals before Ospreay scored a monkey flip and dropkick that sent Bandido through the ropes to the floor.

Ospreay stayed on the attack and nailed a pescado!

Rolling Bandido back inside, Ospreay hit a HIGH springboard crossbody that yielded a 1 count!

On commentary, Ranallo said:

A feeling out process for these unique athletes. They are testing the range of one another.

Ringside announcer Justin Roberts announced the first time cue:

Five minutes have expired. Fifteen minutes remain.

Ospreay threw chops and forearms, and Bandido returned the fire. Bandido shot Ospreay into the ropes, but Ospreay rebounded with the back handspring enziguri!

Pip, Pip, Cheerio!

1...

2.........

Kick Out!

Ospreay took control and grounded things on the mat, locking Bandido into a bridging double chickenwing – the Cattle Mutilation!

On commentary, Chael Sonnen said:

This is a new element of Ospreay’s game. Preparing for his match with Jon Moxley at SummerFest, he trained extensively on the mat. We know what he can do in the air, but this is where he needed to grow...being able to take an opponent to mat, stretch them and grind them. You suck the oxygen out of their lungs and control the pace.

Bandido inched his way across the cerulean blue mat and got his foot on the bottom rope for the break!

Ospreay then threw a couple heavy forearms into the masked face of Bandido. Bandido responded with a LOUD overhand chop, but before he string together any more offense, Ospreay NAILED a wicked chop that cracked like a whip!

Ospreay hit the ropes, but he ran directly into a dropkick from Bandido followed by a knee strike!

This time it was Bandido showcasing his mat prowess, as he locked Ospreay in the Romero Special!

Bent in half, Ospreay cried out in pain and frantically grabbed the ropes for the break.

Ospreay grabbed at his knee, feeling the pain of the submission. He ducked a lariat attempt by Bandido and countered with a reverse vertical suplex...........

NO!

Bandido floated over in mid-air!

Bandido countered with a reverse vertical suplex of his own!

1.....

2..........

Kick Out!

Staying on the attack, Bandido hit the ropes and charged for a hurricanrana......

NO!

Ospreay blocked it! With a roar he powered Bandido up for a powerbomb, but his right knee gave out just a little – a side effect of the Romero Special......

Bandido shifted his body position on Ospreay’s shoulders.................

POISON HURRICANRANA!

Ospreay got planted! The speed, precision, and impact of the move had the Phoenix crowd chanting “BANDIDO, BANDIDO, BANDIDO!”

Ospreay went to the outside, clutching his head and neck but Bandido sized up his target. He sprung to the top....

SHOOTING STAR PRESS TO THE FLOOR!

HOLY SHIT, HOLY SHIT, HOLY SHIT

Bandido flew and landed with the highest of high risk maneuvers! Ranallo exclaimed:

Bandido is a human highlight reel! He just redefined gravity!

Justin Roberts announced:

Ten minutes have expired. Ten minutes remain.

Bandido took Ospreay back into the ring at the count of 8. From the apron, Bandido vaulted to the top rope again!

HURRICANRANA INTO THE PIN ATTEMPT!

1................

2....................................

KICK OUT!

Bandido stayed on the attack. He lifted Ospreay for a vertical suplex, but Ospreay countered with a Stundog Millionaire! Both men went down!

The two men laid side by side, as the referee began the 20 Count. The fans clapped in rhythm – pure adrenaline fueled both men back to their feet.

Slowly, they rose in the center of the ring. Their eyes met, and a back-and-forth strike exchange followed.

Forearm!

Chop!

Forearm!

The crowd reached a fever pitch cheering as each strike landed!

Bandido hit a WICKED forearm and Ospreay keeled over.

With a mighty ROAR, Ospreay fired up and landed a sick flurry of strikes that stunned Bandido....SUPERKICK from Ospreay!

Oscutter........

NO!

BANDIDO CAUGHT OSPREAY IN MID-AIR!

X KNEE!

The move connected and Ospreay was down and rocked. Bandido called for the finish......21 PLEX!

OSPREAY FLIPPED OVER IN MID-AIR AND LANDED ON HIS FEET!

BAM!

HIDDEN BLADE TO THE BACK OF THE HEAD!

With wide eyes, Ospreay rose and ripped his elbow pad off!

HIDDEN BLADE AGAIN!

1.......

2.........................................

3.............................................................................

Will Ospreay (15:00)
Will Ospreay (2-0; 4 Points) | Bandido (0-2; 0 Points)

The crowd erupted to their feet. Ospreay rolled over, heaving, eyes wide with exhaustion.

Mauro Ranallo: Out of nowhere again! The Hidden Blade connects – and Will Ospreay now has 4 points in the A Block!

Chael Sonnen: Bandido brought the fight, but that strike by Ospreay...the Hidden Blade...it may be the most deadly strike in WSW right now. When he hits that, it’s lights out!

The crowd gave both men a standing ovation. Ospreay was the first to rise, extending a hand. Bandido accepted, and they shared a respectful embrace.
Ospreay then climbed the ropes and raised his arms victoriously as Finale blared through the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

A high-level opener for the show that set the tone perfectly for Night Two. Athletic, dramatic, and respectful.

The crowd helped a ton. They were electric from bell to bell. This was babyface vs. babyface, so we leaned into mutual respect and competition rather than conflict. The pacing was really strong. I think the crowd thought they were going to start 1,000,000 miles an hour, but by starting slow – we built to the high spots and frenetic finish.

Ospreay is a star, and his selling is underrated. Goal was to continue elevating Bandido even in defeat. He showed he could match Ospreay’s speed and intensity, and out crowd is getting behind him.

The Hidden Blade is getting over as a tournament-defining finisher.

This match captured the essence of the Grand Prix: skill, endurance, and greatness.

A vignette aired.

The screen was black, and a low rumble of thunder rolled underneath the faint twang of an electric guitar. The camera faded in to reveal a weathered saloon, dimly lit by amber lights. The atmosphere was thick – heavy from years of cigarette smoke. A bead of condensation trickled down the neck of a half-empty beer bottle. A single droplet fell in slow motion, splashing on the wooded bar.

The heavy thud of boots are heard.

The camera settled on a set of large, scarred hands – rolling a shell casing between calloused fingers.

The voice of Karl Anderson is heard:

Three-time IWGP Tag Team Champions...

We see a quick montage of Doc Gallows hitting a big boot and Karl Anderson connecting with a spinebuster.

The voice of Doc Gallows is head:

Two-time WSW World Tag Team Champions...

Another montage is shown of Gallows/Anderson hitting the Magic Killer and their reign of violence like flashbacks from a war film.

A whiskey glass slid down the counter and stopped just before the edge. Anderson’s hand caught it.

Karl Anderson: From one end of the earth to the other – nobody has raised more hell...

Doc Gallows: ...or kicked more ass.

The scene cut between cinematic close-ups – sweat, smirks, clenched fists – and highlight reels of the duo in action and hoisting championship gold. Anderson and Gallows’ voices are head:

Karl Anderson: The Club isn’t a tagline.

Doc Gallows: It isn’t a t-shirt.

Karl Anderson: It’s a brotherhood – bound in blood.

Inside the saloon we hear the sound of a blade sliding from a sheath.

For a brief second we can see Doc Gallows' face in the reflection of the cold steel. He then threw the knife. The blade spun through the air.

THUNK

Karl Anderson: For the first time in a while...The Club is riding again.

Doc Gallows: if you hear us coming, Fear The Bones!

The camera pans back to reveal the knife pierced directly through the Black Arrow logo pinned to a dartboard.

The camera held tight – silent except for the faint hum of a flickering neon sign that read:

The Club.

Match Two – B Block: Austin Aries (0-1; 0 Points) vs. WSW World Champion Kenny Omega (1-0; 2 Points)

The second match of Ignition was an A Block match between Austin Aries and Kenny Omega.

Aries made his entrance, accompanied to the ring by a chorus of boos. He wore his usual cocky smirk. The crowd jumped to its feet for the arrival of the World Champion.

Omega stood on stage as pyro exploded around him. The World Championship belt gleamed around his waist. The crowd chanted:

Kenny! Kenny! Kenny!

Mauro Ranallo: There are champions, and then there is Kenny Omega. For 140 days he has reigned at World Champion, but for five years, no one has performed at his level, bell to bell.

Chael Sonnen: In my mind, he’s the best big match wrestler in the world. There is an aura when he walks down that aisle. You know when you see Kenny Omega, you are about to witness something special.

The bell rang, and Omega exploded forward.

BOOM!

V-TRIGGER!

The sound of the impact was tremendous! The crowd gasped as Aries crumpled to his knees.

Mauro Ranallo: MAMA MIA! HE CAUGHT HIM CLEAN! HE CAUGHT HIM CLEAN!

Chael Sonnen: That’s a knockout shot! That’s a knockout shot, Mauro!

Omega didn’t hesitate. He hoisted Aries up.....

ONE WINGED ANGEL!

Aries folded on the mat. Omega hooked the leg.

Kenny Omega :26)
Kenny Omega (2-0; 4 Points) | Austin Aries (0-2; 0 Points)

The arena erupted.

Mauro Ranallo: TWENTY-SIX SECONDS! TWENTY-SIX SECONDS! KENNY OMEGA JUST ENDED IT LIKE A BULLET OUT OF A GUN!

Chael Sonnen: He’s untouchable. Simply on a different level. Every match in this tournament can end in an instant, and we just saw it!

Omega rose to his feet; his breathing was steady and eyes sharp.

The crowd buzzed in an almost stunned state at what they just witnessed. Replays of the V-Trigger and One Winged Angel aired.

Mauro Ranallo: We just witnessed the fastest victory in Grand Prix history. Twenty-six seconds. Kenny Omega is redefining dominance.

As the crowd chanted his name, Melissa Santos entered the ring with a microphone. She spoke:

Kenny, that was the quickest win in the history of the Grand Prix – twenty-six seconds. Can you describe what just happened?

Omega spoke with cool confidence. A faint smirk appeared as he answered:

You blinked, you missed it.

I’m not here to survive the Grand Prix. I’m here to define it. Every match, every opponent, every moment – that's what this tournament is about. Thank you, Phoenix. I love you. Stay with me, and I promise...we are going to keep changing the world!
For now, I must bid you adieu.....
Goodbye....
And goodnight.....
BANG!

The audience cheered as Omega raised the belt high.

Mauro Ranallo: The reigning World Champion has never won the Grand Prix before, but Kenny Omega is setting a pace that no one may be able to match.

Chael Sonnen: That’s what greatness looks like. I promise you, everyone in the A Block just felt a tremor.

Omega exited the ring and slapped fans with fans at ringside.

Without a doubt, this was a creative risk. This match served as a deliberate experiment – a bold statement that matches can end at any moment. The 26-second finish was designed to shatter the audience’s expectations that all Grand Prix matches are going to be 15-20 minutes. We want to introduce a sense of real athletic danger, similar to a UFC fight, by establishing that every strike and every finish can finish a match.

The hope is this adds a layer of unpredictability to the tournament’s presentation. We also hope to use this to add to the aura of Omega as the best wrestler walking the earth.

A promo aired for Ignition’s move to Tuesday nights, beginning on October 1.

Beginning October 1st – the best wrestling television show today moves to Tuesday nights.

Only on the Paramount Network.

The graphic for WSW Ignition: Season Premiere, October 1st appears as the sound of crowds chanting, “WSW, WSW, WSW” is heard.

A vignette aired.

An extravagant Mexican manor is seen, as the sound of running water and a Spanish guitar is heard.

Sweeping drone shots show a tiled roof and a palm-lined courtyard. A marble fountain bubbled in the center of the estate; the sun reflecting off rippling water. The camera moved through open wooden doors into a grand study lined with books, cigars, and portraits of masked luchadores – a shrine to legacy.

Inside, RUSH and Dragon Lee sit across from each other at a polished mahogany desk. Both are dressed sharply – black suits, open collars, gold jewelry. An open bottle of tequila rests between them.

RUSH lit a cigar, the flame reflecting in his sunglasses.

RUSH: Hermano… ¿lo sientes? La Facción Ingobernable respira otra vez. El mundo conoce nuestro nombre — y recuerda tener miedo.
(Brother... can you feel it? La Facción Ingobernable breathes again. The world knows our name — and they remember to be afraid.)

Dragon Lee: La energía ha vuelto. Juntos, podemos tenerlo todo — el poder, el oro, el respeto.
(The energy is back. Together, we can take everything — the power, the gold, the respect.)

RUSH: Todo empieza pequeño. Una semilla.

Pero si la plantamos con cuidado, si la alimentamos con el hambre correcta... crecerá en algo que el mundo no podrá cortar.
(It starts small. A seed. But if we plant it carefully, if we feed it with the right hunger... it will grow into something the world cannot cut down.)

RUSH leaned forward, exhaling smoke as he slid open a leather folder. He produced several manila envelopes and fanned them out on the desk – each had a photo clipped to the front.

The camera slid past them briefly, showing: Myron Reed, Ace Austin, Sammy Guevara, and Bandido.

RUSH: Hay leones jóvenes en todas partes, hermano. Hambrientos. Desesperados. Esperando para apoderarse del mundo como tú lo hiciste. Vamos a encontrarlos. Traerlos a la familia.
(There are young lions everywhere, brother. Hungry. Desperate. Waiting to seize the world the way you did. We’re going to find them. Bring them into the family.

RUSH leaned forward and spoke in English:

Fear is a currency, hermano. We’re going to invest wisely.

Dragon Lee nodded. He lifted his glass and spoke:

The family will grow...

The two clinked glasses. RUSH leaned back, smoke curling upward as the LFI faded onto the screen. The faint sound of the fountain echoed as the shot slowly pulled out through the open doors, back into the warm, golden light of the courtyard.

Match Three – B Block: Kota Ibushi (1-0; 2 Points) vs. Bobby Lashley (1-0; 2 Points)

The third match of Ignition was a B Block match between Kota Ibushi and Bobby Lashley.

Ibushi walked down the ramp with a calm, even keeled expression, but his body was coiled like a spring. Lashley made his entrance with his right elbow wrapped in heavy black tape. He wore an intense expression, ready for battle.

Mauro Ranallo: You are looking at two of the most dangerous athletes in this entire tournament. In 2008, Bobby Lashley ventured into the world of MMA and put together a 15-2 record. He returned to pro wrestling, but completely changed his style – bringing his freestyle wrestling background and Brazilian jiu-jitsu training from the cage to the squared circle. Ever since, he has been damn near unstoppable.

Chael Sonnen: You can see the arm is all taped up. Remember, Mauro – Lashley's fighting through those bone spurs in his elbow. Adam Cole targeted it last week, and that tape tells the story. The problem is, he’s in there with one of the best strikers in the world. Kota Ibushi is a walking weapon, and he scored a massive victory of our Intercontinental Champion, Cody, last week.

The two crouched low in their respective corners. At the sound of the bell, Lashley shot forward for a double-leg takedown. Ibushi stuffed it and scored a pair of stiff knee strikes, but Lashley adapted instantly, getting waist control and taking Ibushi to the canvas.

Lashley looked for the Head and Arm Choke, but Ibushi quickly got his feet to the ropes for the break. There was no reprieve though, as Lashley RIPPED him off his feet and hit a German Suplex!

Lashley maintained his grip and hit a second German!

Completing the trifecta, Lashley hurled Ibushi with a THIRD German – this one a release that sent Ibushi down hard on his shoulders and upper back!

Lashley shot in and rained down anvil elbows with his good arm, pounding into the jaw and the side of Ibushi’s neck!

Lashley tried for the choke again, but Ibushi countered with a jawbreaker that staggered Lashley and broke his grip. The Phoenix crowd rose as Ibushi unleased a rapid fire series of leg kicks, each echoing like a whip crack! Lashley absorbed the punishment, until Ibushi landed another kick to the hamstring that buckled Lashley!

Roundhouse to the head! Lashley dropped!

Standing moonsault knee drop!

1....

Kickout!

Ibushi whipped Lashley into the ropes, went for a leapfrog – Lashley caught him and LAUNCHED him with a belly-to-belly overhead suplex! The impact rattled the ring!

Lashley loaded up for the Spear, sprinting full force....

Ibushi leapfrogged to avoid it and caught Lashley with a flying armbar on the injured arm! The crowd rose as Lashley flailed and yelled out in pain!

Mauro Ranallo: He’s got the arm! He’s got the arm!

Chael Sonnen: Listen to Lashley, I don’t think we’ve ever heard him cry out in pain before. He’s fighting through a damaged joint and Ibushi’s got him hooked! This is beautiful strategy by Ibushi. An Arm Bar is designed to hyperextend the elbow...the last thing that Lashley wants to have happen.

Lashley tried to lift Ibushi into a powerbomb to break the submission, but Ibushi wrenched back, and Lashley collapsed into the ropes, forcing a break!
The camera caught him clutching the taped arm, grimacing. He rolled out to the floor. Ibushi didn’t hesitate.....

TRIANGLE MOONSAULT!

Ibushi threw Lashley back into the ring. He charged for the Boma Ye..............

LASHLEY PICKED HIM OFF WITH A SPEAR!

KICKOUT!

Lashley, breathing heavily, went for the Head and Arm Choke again – Ibushi fought it off, driving his own elbow into Lashley’s. Ibushi escaped Lashley’s grasp...

He went for another roundhouse, but Lashley ducked and seized waist control. With one arm, Lashley launched Ibushi for a German....

Ibushi flipped over in mid-air and landed on his feet!

LEG KICK!

ROUNDHOUSE KICK TO THE HEAD!

BOMA YE!

KICKOUT!

Lashley and Ibushi rose again and circled each other. They exchange strikes until Ibushi landed yet another sharp, stiff leg kick! Ibushi shot in and gained waist control, but Lashley escaped with a stiff back elbow to the jaw. With scary speed, Lashley got waist control of his own and LAUNCHED Ibushi with another German Suplex!

Lashley charged for another Spear....

Ibushi vaulted over him at the last second, and Lashley CRASHED shoulder-first into the turnbuckles! He grabbed at his elbow and stumbled backward, and Ibushi saw his opening....

HEADKICK!

ANOTHER HEADKICK!

BOMA YE!

Lashley dropped to his knees. Ibushi grabbed the wrists....

3..........................................................

Kota Ibushi (6:55)
Kota Ibushi (2-0; 4 Points) | Bobby Lashley (1-1; 2 Points)

The bell rang, and Ibushi fell to his knees. Sweat dripped from his chin as he breathed heavily. Lashley rolled to his side, clutching the taped arm, eyes full of frustration.

Mauro Ranallo: Kota Ibushi survives the storm! What a battle between two absolute machines!

Chael Sonnen: Lashley was a half-step from finishing this one early, but Ibushi found the answer. That’s what makes him world class.

Ibushi offered a respectful bow. The camera lingered on Ibushi, exhausted but victorious.

Mauro Ranallo: Kota Ibushi now sits at four points in the B Block – and this impressive run continues.

Chael Sonnen: I thought he may be the dark horse coming in. He’s not a dark horse anymore. This is a HUGE win for Ibushi.

Mauro Ranallo: You have to admire the guts and toughness of Lashley, but that elbow may have cost him more than just points tonight.

This match was designed to feel like a fight and showcase the diversity of styles in the Grand Prix. The pace was a sprint – violent, fast, but grounded in struggle. The goal was to build tension through contrast: Lashley’s power versus Ibushi’s timing and strikes.

We wanted this to feel like a match between two equals, with the deciding factor being pain management. The crowd was cautious, not totally sure how to react, but they really got into the finishing sequence.

Lashley is a trooper; he’s gutting this thing out with the bone spurs which limit him in the ring.

A vignette on Deonna Purrazzo aired.

The screen faded into the the early morning. The sound of steady breathing and the rhythmic thud of feet hitting the pavement is heard. A lone streetlight flickered as Deonna Purrazzo runs through the fog, sweat glistening on her forehead. He voice narrated:

I’ve wanted to do this my entire life. I promised my brother, Dominic, that I’d live our dream – that one day I’d wrestle in something more than just our living room. The day I turned eighteen, I started training...and I haven’t stopped since.

We see Deonna grapple on the mats of a New Jersey gym, executing transitions with sharp precision. We can hear arms and legs slap the mat as the voice of a coach is heard in the background.

Paige Knight is interviewed:

Deonna didn’t want to just be a wrestler – she wanted to understand it. She fell in love with the technical side, with the craft. She’s a tactician. Once the bell rings, she’s hunting you – looking to find your weakness and exploit it. And once she gets that Fujiwara Arm Bar on...it’s over.

We see Deonna training jiu jitsu, drilling reversals, and applying submissions.

Mike Tenay is interviewed:

In so many ways, Deonna Purrazzo is the antithesis of Tessa Blanchard. She’s not flashy. She’s not showy. She’s a blue collar badass from New Jersey.

We see highlights of Undisputed in May. Tessa Blanchard celebrated with the Women’s World Championship, as Deonna sat on the mat in pure disappointment. Suddenly, Nixon Newell returned.....SHINING WIZARD to the skull of Purrazzo.

Deonna’s narration continued:

Undisputed was one of the lowest points of my career. I let everything slip through my fingers, and I left myself vulnerable for the vultures. I made a promise to myself that night...I wouldn’t be defined by that moment. I was going to hunt. I was going to take out Diamond, one-by-one.

We see quick flashes of her matches – wrenching Tenille Dashwood’s arm until she tapped, cinching Nixon Newell into a submission.

Back in the gym – we see Deonna get the Fujiwara applied to her training partners. The sound faded out everything except her breathing.

For too long, Tessa Blanchard and Diamond have held this division hostage. There‘s nothing she won’t do to keep herself on top. I’m here to end that.

We see Deonna wrapping her wrists and lacing her boots. With pure intensity, she slowly raises her head and looks into the camera with fire burning in her eyes.

I promised it would be one-by-one, and Tessa – you're the last one left. I’m coming for you. I’m coming for the Women’s World Championship. And I’m going to make you TAP OUT!

Backstage, Melissa Santos stood in the interview area:

Ladies and gentlemen, I’m joined at this time by “The Assassin” Claudio Castagnoli and Salina de la Renta.

Claudio, last week’s match against Jon Moxley was a brutal, physical war. You came up on the short end, so what’s your mindset going into tonight as you look to notch your first two points?

Salina stepped forward, a faint smile curling at the corners of her mouth. Her voice was smooth but deliberate.

Failure...is not something that is tolerated.

Under my guidance, Claudio has become what he always dreamed of being – precision, power, and dominance.

But dreams come at a cost.

Now, it’s time for him to hold his end of the deal.

I always deliver what I promise, Melissa. I have promised gold.

My investments will not fail...because I make sure they don’t.

Melissa turned towards Claudio:

Claudio, do you have a response to that....

Before she could finish, Castagnoli’s icy gaze shifted towards her. He didn’t say a word – just adjusted his wrist tape, straightened his posture, and walked off camera without breaking eye contact.

The camera lingered on Salina. She looked directly into the camera, the sinister smile returned:

You see Melissa...executing is everything.

She turned and followed Castagnoli, her heels echoing sharply off the concrete floor.

Match Four – B Block: “The Assassin” Claudio Castagnoli (0-1; 0 Points) (w/ Salina de la Renta) vs. WSW Intercontinental Champion Cody (0-1; 0 Points)

The fourth match of Ignition was a B Block contest between Claudio Castagnoli and Cody. Both men stood in their respective corners – tense, focused, no wasted moved. Cody’s eyes were locked in on Claudio Castagnoli, who returned a cold, blank stare. Salina de la Renta watched from the floor.

Mauro Ranallo: Forgive the hyperbole here, but this is a big time match. These two men have everything to prove. Both are 0-1, and both are desperate to gain those first two points.

Chael Sonnen: That’s right, Mauro. 0-2 is a brutal hole to have to dig yourself out of. In the history of the Grand Prix, we’ve never seen a wrestler start 0-2 and go on to win the tournament.

The two men locked up hard at the bell. Claudio muscled Cody backward, but Cody rolled through, taking him to the mat with slick chain wrestling. Both men scrambled to their feet and locked up again. There was no wasted movement or time – you could feel the desperation.

Cody drove Castagnoli into the corner. At the referee’s order, he gave a clean break, but he ATE a vicious European Uppercut in doing so. Castagnoli whipped Cody into the corner, charged, but Cody floated over and LIT up Castagnoli with knife-edge chops to cheers.

Cody whipped Castagnoli into the ropes, went for a big boot – Claudio ducked and then absorbed a shoulder tackle. He didn’t move one inch.

Cody hit the ropes once again, and Castagnoli RIPPED him down with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. COVER!

2........

KICK OUT!

At ringside, Salina de la Renta didn’t flinch. She watched with fire in her eyes, perhaps feeling the pressure boiling inside her.

Justin Roberts announced:

Five minutes have expired. Fifteen minutes remain.

Castagnoli dropped Cody with three straight gutwrench suplexes that yielded another 2 count. He transitioned to short, sharp elbows to the back of Cody’s head – targeting the injury.

Mauro Ranallo: Despite what Cody says, we know he isn’t 100%. He can’t be. No one would after taking a chair to the skull. That’s the danger though of Claudio Castagnoli. He knows a weakness, he knows an injury, and he zeroes in on it.

Chael Sonnen: You heard Salina earlier, failure by her clients isn’t tolerated.

Never one to back down; Cody fired up. He drove Castagnoli into the corner and repeatedly smashed his shoulder into the midsection. The crowd began to rally behind Cody. He charged, Castagnoli sidestepped, Cody leapt to the second rope...

DISASTER KICK!

Castagnoli spilled to the outside!

Cody ripped his weight belt off! He charged forward....TOPE SUICIDA......

NO!

CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI CAUGHT HIM IN MID-AIR!

HE SLUNG CODY INTO THE STEEL GUARDRAIL LIKE A FRISBEE!

The impact drew a collective gasp! Salina’s lips curled into the faintest smile.

Mauro Ranallo: Good God! Cody might be broken in half!

Chael Sonnen: He’s a freak of nature! You can’t out-heart pure raw power like that!

Cody landed with a sickening thud. Castagnoli grabbed the limp body and whipped him into the steel steps!

Castagnoli then rammed the back of Cody’s head into the steps over and over again!

Back inside, Castagnoli stomped down on the back of the head. He yelled towards the crowd:

He’s weak! This is your hero?!

The fans booed as Salina nodded approvingly.

Castagnoli grabbed Cody and went for the Ricola Bomb, but Cody backdropped out! He wasn’t dead just yet! Dropkick from Cody!

Flip, Flop N’ Fly!

The crowd roared! Cody loaded up for the Bionic Elbow, but Castagnoli DESTROYED him with another uppercut!

Sharpshooter!

Castagnoli turned him over in the center of the ring! Cody screamed in pain, clawing at the canvas, fighting for the ropes.

The crowd clapped in rhythm:
CODY! CODY! CODY!

The veins on Castagnoli’s head popped as he leaned back deep........

Cody reached his hand out.........................

HE GOT THE ROPES!

Mauro Ranallo: Cody refuses to quit!

Castagnoli grew restless. He pounded the mat in frustration, glancing at Salina de la Renta, who stood stone-faced. He rained more elbows to the back of Cody’s head and then hit a half-and-half suplex! He dropped Cody square on the back of his head!

Moving with crazy speed Castagnoli went for the Sharpshooter again, but Cody caught him with up kicks! Castagnoli staggered back. Superkick from Cody! Snap Powerslam!

2.......

KICK OUT!

The crowd was on their feet as Cody found his rhythm. He clotheslined Castagnoli over the top, ran the ropes....

TOPE SUICIDA CONNECTED THIS TIME!

Back inside, Cody went for Cross Rhodes.......

Castagnoli escaped and fired off another uppercut! He lifted Cody to the top turnbuckle, looking for a superplex. They traded shots on the turnbuckles – Cody hammered him with forearms until Castagnoli fell to the cerulean, blue canvas. Cody adjusted, balanced....

MOONSAULT!

Cody (10:49)
Cody (1-1; 2 Points) | Claudio Castagnoli (0-2; 0 Points)

The bell rang, and the crowd exploded! Cody collapsed to his side, clutching his head. Castagnoli sat in stunned silence, eyes wide, trying to process what just happened.

Salina de la Ranta stood motionless in shock. Without a word, she turned and walked up the ramp, leaving Claudio Castagnoli alone.

Mauro Ranallo: Cody pulls it off! Somehow, someway, he pulled it off!

Chael Sonnen: He’s a fighter. He’s got grit, he’s got moxy, and he’s tough as hell! How about the ring awareness and instinct from Cody to pull this one out!

Cody rose to his feet, wincing as the referee raised his arm. The fans cheered in unison:

CODY! CODY! CODY!

The Intercontinental Champion fought through the pain and picked up his first 2 points of the Grand Prix.

Melissa Santos entered the ring, microphone in hand, a genuine smile on her face as the crowd quieted down.

Cody, that was an incredible effort tonight after a difficult loss last week. You are officially in the win column – walk us through this match.

Cody nodded, catching his breath. He spoke:

Melissa, I promise I’m going to answer your question, but this one meant everything. Last week, I got knocked down. The first time in a while I took a loss inside the ring, so this whole week was about preparation – mentally and physically. I knew Claudio was going to knock the hell out me, and he did...but this tournament is about perseverance...it’s about belief......

THE ARENA LIGHTS WENT OUT!

The video boards went black, leaving only the faint flicker of phones in the crowd.

The sound of faint static filled the speakers. On the big screen, a dim, grainy image began to form – a figure holding a camera close to his face. The crowd gasped as it became clear who it was.

ETHAN CARTER

A single bare bulb swung in the background, casting half of Carter’s face in shadows. His features were just visible. His voice was soft, clinical, and intimate. The room was quiet.

He spoke:

Well done, Cody. I didn’t think you would pull that one out, but I’m not shocked the white knight stand triumphant once again.

That’s right, Cody...I’m watching.

I promised you that I would be.

Am I in this arena tonight, or am I halfway across the country? I know you think about me, Cody. I know that I’m the nightmare that you can’t wake up from.

Show me a hero, and I can write you a tragedy.

When you sacrifice so much, you carry a burden. A burden that is both professional and personal.

But heroes move forward. Heroes preserve. Heroes are the light that shine at the end of the darkest night.

Cody, that’s your weakness...you think you’re a hero. You think you have finally achieved everything you dreamed your career would be.

The crowd chants your name. They believe in you. And that Intercontinental Title isn’t just a wrestling accomplishment...it’s a symbol of your rebirth.

I stained that belt with your own blood, and I promise that I will do it again.

We all get one shot in this life. Once chance to write our own story...to control our narrative...

Mine...

Mine is to STRIP everything away from you just like you did to ME!

I’m going to prove that you are not a hero. You are a MONSTER....

Just. Like. Me.

See you soon, brother...

The camera held on Ethan Carter’s half-lit face for a long beat. His mouth twisted into a half smile. The camera then cut black, and the arena lights snapped back on. The crowd was stunned, and the camera cut to a single, lingering image of Cody in the ring – staring, clearly unsettled, at the video board.

The match was designed to tell the story of two desperate competitors, while advancing two parallel character arcs – Cody's resilience and Claudio Castagnoli’s growing instability with Salina de la Renta.

Technically, this was excellent. Cody’s win felt earned, and we are trying hard to reinforce the core identity of the Grand Prix – no wasted motion, no filler, all that matters is winning, and one moment can change everything.

As Ignition returned from commercial, the camera panned to Mauro Ranallo and Chael Sonnen at the announce desk.

Mauro Ranallo: Ladies and gentlemen, what we just witnessed moments ago from Ethan Carter was as unsettling as anything we’ve ever seen in World Series Wrestling. A chilling declaration from a man obsessed with Cody.

Chael Sonnen: This isn’t about wrestling anymore either. Ethan Carter wants to dismantle Cody. And the scariest part? He’s not rushing it. He seems to take pride in haunting Cody, making him look over his shoulder every second of this tournament. Cody’s got to keep wrestling at a high level while carrying that weight. That’s a dangerous combination.

Mauro Ranallo: The reigning Intercontinental Champion is now fighting a two-front war: one inside the Grand Prix, and one inside his own head. The question – how long can anyone hold up under that pressure?

Ranallo adjusted his notes.

As we somehow move forward...we return to A Block action as Ricochet looks for his first points in the Grand Prix against “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles. Right now, let’s go to Todd Keneley backstage with Ricochet.

The shot switched to a hallway backstage. Todd Keneley walked briskly beside Ricochet, who was dressed and headed to the ring. The camera followed their movement in one continuous shot.

Keneley asked:

Ricochet, you’re moments away from stepping inside the ring with AJ Styles – one of the most decorated wrestlers in WSW history. What’s going through your mind?

Ricochet nodded thoughtfully as they turned a corner; the hum of the crowd was faint in the background.

I know exactly what tonight means, Todd. I’m facing THE innovator. The man who kicked down every door, refused to be told “no,” and opened up opportunities for guys like Will Ospreay, Kenny Omega...and me.

The Grand Prix isn’t something I take lightly. I’m proud to be a part of the Golden Triangle and wear this logo on my gear – but I’m also aware that I’m the only member who’s never held WSW gold.

Ibushi’s been there. Omega’s at the top of the mountain.

And me? I’m still climbing.

I could tell you what I’m gonna do...or I could show you.

Never count me out.

Ricochet nodded towards Keneley, as his music began in the background. He proceeded forward to make his entrance.

Match Five – A Block: Ricochet (0-1; 0 Points) vs. “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles (1-0; 2 Points)

The fifth match of Ignition was an A Block match pitting Ricochet against AJ Styles. Ricochet entered, his usual intensity tempered by focus.

The Phoenix crowd came alive as Styles made his entrance – calm and confident.

Mauro Ranallo: Two of the most explosive athletes in the world – AJ Styles, the 2018 Grand Prix winner and the only two-time WSW World Champion; and Ricochet – poetry in motion, but he needs this win badly.

Chael Sonnen: You heard it in his pre-match comments a few moments ago. He feels like he has something to prove, and big picture, he’s 0-1. If he drops this one, he will be in that dreaded 0-2 hole.

Both men circled at the bell, and chain wrestling started things off. Styles snapped off a headlock takedown, Ricochet countered with a wristlock. Styles rolled through and took over again. The stood off to quick applause from the crowd.

A second lock up led to a faster sequence. Ricochet cartwheeled out of a headscissors and hit a headscissors of his own followed by a dropkick!

The pace quickened, and the crowd buzzed. They ran the ropes. Styles went for a backdrop, Ricochet flipped over, landed on his feet, and hit two arm drags, a corner clothesline, and another dropkick the sent Styles to the floor.

Ricochet vaulted over the ropes and charged down the apron for a running shooting star press, but Styles sidestepped – Ricochet landed on his feet.

Quick as a cat, Styles rammed Ricochet into the steel ring post!

Back inside, Styles targeted the right leg relentlessly – a Dragon Screw Leg Whip was followed by a Half Crab!

Ricochet grimaced, rolling through to break the hold, but his leg was compromised. When he charged back, he was a half-second too slow, and Styles met him with a NASTY back elbow and a shinbreaker for a 2 count!

Justin Roberts announced:
Five minutes have expired. Fifteen minutes remain.

Styles slammed Ricochet’s knee into the canvas, then went for another Dragon Screw, but Ricochet countered with an enziguri using the good leg! He followed with a jumping roundhouse and a springboard clothesline off one leg!

Chael Sonnen noted this on commentary:
Ricochet’s body control is insane! He’s doing everything on one leg.

Ricochet winced, but he shot forward, springing off the middle rope, looking for a quebrada.....

Styles caught him in mid-air!

He looked for the Styles Clash.......

Ricochet twisted his body and turned it into a lightning quick hurricanrana and cradle!

2..................

Kick Out!

Both men popped to their feet. Ricochet charged, but Styles elevated him up and over the ropes. Ricochet landed on his feet on the apron and hit a gamenguri – using his bad leg – and shouted in pain as it connected. Pulling himself up with the ropes, he went for a springboard, but his leg buckled, allowing AJ to yank him off the top and PLANT him with a Ushigoroshi!

2............

KICK OUT!

On commentary, Mauro Ranallo said:
The Phenomenal One’s experience is on display. AJ Styles is targeting that right leg, looking to ground Ricochet and force him to fight on the mat.

Styles followed with a snap suplex into the turnbuckles. He went for his moonsault into an invert DDT, but Ricochet countered mid-motion....

NORTHERN LIGHTS SUPLEX!

He transitioned immediately into a spinning vertical suplex!

2............................

KICK OUT!

Ricochet went for the Benadryller, but Styles escaped by hammering him with sharp elbows.

They traded forearms, Styles hit a flurry ending with a spinning back fist!

Styles went for the Pele, but Ricochet avoided it and landed a PELE of his own!

Both men went down, and the crowd chanted:
This Is Awesome!

Justin Roberts announced:
Ten minutes have expired. Ten minutes remain.

They rose slowly. Styles hit a low dropkick to the knee, keeping focus on the worked over joint. He went to the apron and sized up his target....

PHENOMENAL FOREARM........

NO!

Ricochet avoided it!

Styles landed on feet, rolled through, but Ricochet hit a leaping neckbreaker!

Ricochet climbed to the top, struggling. Every movement on his right leg hurt. Styles climbed up after him. They slugged it out on the top rope.

Back and forth they went until Ricochet rocked Styles with a palm strike that sent him crashing to the mat.

SHOOTING STAR PRESS!

2.......................................................

STYLES GOT HIS FOOT ON THE BOTTOM ROPE!

Ricochet sat up in disbelief, eyes wide!

He limped to his feet and went for the Benadryller.

STYLES COUNTERED WITH THE CALF SLICER!

RICOCHET SCREAMED – HE WAS TRAPPED!

THE ROPES WERE TOO FAR AWAY!

STYLES WRENCHED BACK!

AS STYLES ROCKED BACK TO APPLY MORE TORQUE, RICOCHET CAUGHT HIM IN THE ANACONDA VICE!

The crowd gasped!

Chael Sonnen: That’s an arm triangle! That’s an arm triangle choke! We’ve never seen Ricochet use that before – what a counter to escape!

Styles got caught, and he dug the toes of his boots into the mat to inch his way for a break!

Dueling chants erupted in the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum:

LET’S GO AJ! RIC-O-CHET!

Both men pulled up slowly – Styles was quicker. Low dropkick.....

NO!

Ricochet leapt to avoid it and CRASHED onto AJ with a leg drop!

BENADRYLLER!

Ricochet climbed the ropes – hopping on one leg!

He rose on the top!

Ricochet (13:00)
Ricochet (1-1; 2 Points) | AJ Styles (1-1; 2 Points)

The crowd exploded as Ricochet collapsed, clutching his knee in agony but smiling through the pain. Styles rolled off slowly towards the ropes.

Mauro Ranallo: RICOCHET JUST PINNED AJ STYLES! The biggest win of his WSW career – and he earned it!

Chael Sonnen: This was just a master class. What a match! That’s a statement win from Ricochet on a night where he knew that he had to have it!

Ricochet struggled to his feet, raising one arm as the crowd chanted his name. The camera caught AJ Styles nodding, silently mouthing:

Ricochet leaned against the ropes, breathing heavy. AJ rolled to the apron, and then rolled back inside.

The crowd rose in anticipation.

Styles looked at Ricochet for a long moment, then extended his hand.

Ricochet hesitated, still catching his breath, before grasping it firmly.

The crowd erupted in applause as both men nodded to one another – mutual respect from two of the best in the world.

The purpose of this match was to elevate Ricochet’s credibility. AJ is a legend, and he’s pretty much bulletproof at this point, but a win over him means something. This was designed to establish Ricochet as a legitimate Grand Prix threat with his perseverance and improvisation.

Ricochet did a great job selling throughout to build the drama. The crowd bit on that Anaconda Vice counter spot.

Crowd was in to it. This was a great match.

A fast-paced recap package aired, highlighting the actions of the LA Express in recent weeks:
  • Quick flashes show Brian Cage being betrayed by Johnny Mundo and Taya Valkyrie
  • Mundo smirking as he delivered the curb stomps to Cage, while Mike Bennett looked on conflicted
  • Highlights of Mundo & Bennett’s victory on OverDrive last week are show – Mundo forcing Bennett to tag him in order to hit the El Fin de Mundo to get the pin.
The package fades to Todd Keneley hustling down a corridor with a microphone in hand. He finds Johnny Mundo, Taya Valkyrie, and Mike Bennett near the dressing room doors – designer luggage stacked against the wall, arrogance in the air.

Todd Keneley: Johnny, it’s been three weeks. Can you just answer one simple question? Why? Why did you turn your back on Brian Cage?

Mundo lowered his sunglasses, smacked on his gum, and motioned for the camera to move closer.

Todd...I’ve made this clear – I'm not answering your questions. I’m not answering anyone’s questions. There’s only one person in the world worth talking to, and that’s Melissa Santos. You want answers? You send her!

Until then, you – and everyone watching – can tune in to OverDrive on Saturday...and see a star in action.

Taya Valkyrie laughed and tossed her hair back:

The brightest star, Todd. Don’t forget it.

Mundo slid his sunglasses back on, patted Keneley on the chest, and walked off with Taya. Mike Bennett lingered for a moment, offered a quick shrug before following the pair – he wore an uneasy expression.

Ahead of the main event, Mauro Ranallo and Chael Sonnen quickly ran down the card for next week, Night Three of the Grand Prix:

WSW_Grand_Prix_Night_Three.jpg

Match Six – B Block: Adam Cole (0-1; 0 Points) vs. “The Death Rider” Jon Moxley (1-0; 2 Points)

The main event of Ignition was a B Block contest pitting Adam Cole against Jon Moxley.

Adam Cole entered first, swaggering with his trademark arrogance and smirk despite sitting at 0-1. He’s the picture of confidence – slow steps and jawing with fans.

Mauro Ranallo: Adam Cole performs best when the lights are brightest, but this is uncharted territory – no man has ever started 0-2 and gone on to win the Grand Prix.

Chael Sonnen: Cole’s the ultimate manipulator. He knows the game better than anyone, but tonight? He’s got a wild animal waiting for him.

The crowd went nuts as Jon Moxley stormed through the crowd – unhinged, eyes burning with fury. He tossed his ring jacket down as he hopped the guardrail and slid into the ring.

With both men in the ring, the crowd broke out into a chant before they even touched:

HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT!

Cole spit his gum right in Moxley’s face!

Moxley snapped!

He drove Cole into the corner with wild chops and forearms, pounding away with unrestrained aggression. The referee warned him, but Moxley shoved past him – throwing Cole to the floor.

Moxley whipped Cole into the guardrail several times and then stepped on his head on the floor!

Chael Sonnen: Moxley’s a madman, but there’s calculation behind that chaos. He needs to be careful – Cole will turn that emotion against him.

The crowd chanted:

Moxley’s gonna kill you! Moxley’s gonna kill you!

Moxley drug Cole up and rolled him back in, but as Moxley slid in – Cole stomped on him viciously. Cole landed a swift kick into Moxley’s inner thigh that sent a shock of pain through The Death Rider’s body.

Cole chopped Moxley in the corner, but Moxley ROARED back, firing a barrage of chops! He whipped Cole into the ropes, but Cole hooked the ropes and tried to escape the ring – Moxley wasn’t having it though! He yanked him back and OBLITERATED him with a lariat!

Justin Roberts announced:
Five minutes have expired. Fifteen minutes remain.

Cole rolled out to the apron. As Moxley grabbed him, Cole snapped his throat across the top rope. Cole slid in and hit a DDT!

Cole fired a superkick, but Moxley ducked. Cole ducked a lariat and hit another DDT!

Not wasting a second, Cole mounted him and rained down straight rights and lefts. The referee threatened a DQ for the closed fists, but Cole ignored it and hit a backstabber! Cover!

1....

Moxley kicked out!

Cole took things to the outside, and this time he threw Moxley into the guardrail followed by a Russian Leg Sweep into the steel! Cole rammed Moxley’s head into the ring post!

Mauro Ranallo noted:

Jon Moxley is a man that prides himself on the wars he’s fought. He’s had a long career, but this tournament will test every mile he’s put on his body.

Back inside, Cole zeroed in on the knee – stomping it with no mercy. Moxley winced and clutched the joint.

Cole went for yet another stomp, but Moxley cut him off with a chop and followed with a shotgun dropkick!

Moxley’s leg gave slightly as Cole rolled to the floor. Moxley rose, hit the ropes, and launched himself through the ropes...

TOPE SUICIDA!

Moxley kept up the attack...

GERMAN SUPLEX ON THE RAMP!

Cole landed with a THUD!

Moxley rolled Cole in, but it took him a moment to get back in himself. He punched down at his knee to regain some feeling in it. Cole retreated to the corner. Moxley charged, but Cole yanked the referee in front of him!

Moxley hit the breaks to avoid contacting the referee, but in the confusion, Cole GOUGED deep into the eyes! Enziguri from Cole!

Moving quickly, Cole scored a double leg and then hooked Moxley in a figure-four around the ring post!

The crowd booed mercilessly as Cole cranked back until the referee’s count hit 4.

Cole slid inside and locked in a Texas Cloverleaf!

Moxley screamed out in pain! Cole yelled:

I’m going to cripple this son of a bitch!

Moxley clawed his way to the ropes for the break, but the damage was done. Cole hauled him up – fireman's carry – Moxley elbowed free! Cole snatched waist control!

German Suplex!

MOXLEY POPPED UP, ADRENALINE SURGING!

Cole ducked a lariat......

Justin Roberts announced:

Both men slowly rose. They traded forearms, but each time Moxley connected – Cole dropped to the canvas. With rubber legs, Cole swung again, but Moxley ducked and hit a uranage that shook the ring!

Moxley backed into the corner, he charged for the Regal Knee, but Cole avoided it at the last instant! Cole threw a pump kick, but Moxley ducked and hit a snap double-arm DDT!

Jon Moxley (15:15)
Jon Moxley (2-0; 4 Points) | Adam Cole (0-2; 0 Points)

Moxley collapsed to in the ring, as the crowd lost their minds – bellowing out chants:

MOXLEY! MOXLEY! MOXLEY!

Chael Sonnen: Jon Moxley just went to hell and back, and somehow came back standing. Adam Cole pushed him further than anyone in WSW has managed yet!

Mauro Ranallo: And the reality is settling in for Adam Cole – one of the tournament favorites – he is now 0-2 in the Grand Prix. That’s now three straight losses in singles matches for Adam Cole!

Chael Sonnen: Moxley is becoming unstoppable. The man is chaos in the flesh!

Rising to his feet, Moxley stood on the ropes, beating his chest as the camera zoomed out. Cole layed motionless on the mat, staring up at the lights.

Moxley roared in front of the crowd – defiant and unbroken. Mauro Ranallo closed the show:

Jon Moxley is sending a message to the entire Grand Prix – the road to Madison Square Garden runs through him!

The goal was twofold – cement Jon Moxley as a dominant, unrelenting force in WSW while also ensuring Adam Cole looked dangerous in defeat. The match was hard-hitting and emotional.

The crowd was electric from the bell. They saw this as a big match, and they saw these guys as big stars. This match got the best reaction of any on the night.

Moving forward, we need to make sure we’re careful on the referee distraction spots. These need to protected and used sparingly.

I'll keep things short and sweet here considering this was really all about the tournament. I think most the matches did what I thought they would, put on a match and delivered the expected result. Potentially, the unexpected result here for me was Ricochet beating AJ. Kind of leaves a dirty taste in my mouth because I'm not his biggest fan lol. Hoping he just definitely doesn't win the grand prix. I liked the quick win from Omega, adding that element of uncertainty. Whilst I understand the Cody win, the only other thing that saddens me is Claudio losing again. I get issues with his partnership with Selina is where this is going, but I just feel this was your hottest character, and we didn't get enough of him at the top.

Also on a side note, I'm just going to commend you on that Ethan Carter promo. That was awesome.

As usual, your video packages and vignettes were spot on throughout the night. The Deonna package was probably my favourite because I always enjoy the painting of the picture of the polar opposites of Blanchard/Purazza. The Club vignette signaling their intentions to come for Black Arrow was also good, and RUSH and crew looking to build their squad excites me.

Also enjoying Mundo's continued push to refuse to give an explanation on his turning on Cage until Melissa Santos speaks to him. So good, assuming that confrontation will eventually happen, and I look forward to it.

Another strong show from you here, no surprises.

WSW OverDrive: Episode 2
5529c357-aedf-4b3b-b9fb-0d2b07b3c6ef.png

Promotion: World Series Wrestling
Date: August 24, 2019
City: Phoenix, AZ
Venue: Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum

The 8/24 edition of OverDrive began with the opening theme before Mike Tenay welcomed us to the broadcast from the WSW Control Center:

Hello everyone, and welcome into Week 2 of WSW OverDrive, streaming live around the world on YouTube.

This past Thursday night on the Paramount Network, the 2019 Grand Prix continued – and we’ve seen some shocking results to say the least. We’ll break down everything here on this program, but right now, let’s head to the ring!

Up first this week on OverDrive, Deonna Purrazzo – the Diamond Hunter – takes on Ivelisse.

This week on Ignition, we saw a phenomenal video package on Deonna, and we know her eyes are firmly set on Tessa Blanchard and the Women’s World Championship. But Ivelisse – a woman who has come so close to capturing that title herself – has a chance to shoot up the ranks of the women’s division with a win tonight.

Let’s send it to Goldenboy and Veda Scott with all the action!

Match One: Ivelisse vs. “The Virtuosa” Deonna Purrazzo

The first match of OverDrive was a singles match between Ivelisse and Deonna Purrazzo. The crowd had strong support for Purrazzo who came to the ring totally locked in and focused.

The two locked up and traded holds early, with Purrazzo outwrestling Ivelisse. She transitioned beautifully between wristlocks and hammerlocks before attempting a German suplex. Ivelisse flipped over in mid-air and landed on her feet.

Ivelisse sidestepped a charging Purrazzo and peppered her with kicks and chops in the corner. Ivelisse shot Purrazzo into the ropes, leading to a crisp rope-running exchange capped by two deep arm drags from Purrazzo. The second sent Ivelisse to the floor.

Deonna went for a baseball slide, but Ivelisse avoided it and landed a SUPERKICK on the floor!

She slid into the ring, hit the ropes, and CONNECTED on a low-pe suicida!

Fired up, Ivelisse went climbed to the middle rope of the post and flew with a moonsault...

But Purrazzo avoided it!

Ivelisse landed on her feet, only to get LEVELED by a lariat from Purrazzo who followed with a belly-to-belly suplex on the floor!

Back inside, Purrazzo hit her signature judo throws, maintaining wrist control each time, before looking for the Fujiwara Armbar!

Ivelisse escaped with a roll-through and up kicks!

Purrazzo charged forward, but Ivelisse countered with a drop toe hold, sending Purrazzo face first into the middle turnbuckle!

Ivelisse connected with a shotgun dropkick to the back, followed by a snap back suplex that yielded a 2 count!

She went for the Desert Eagle (running Code Red), but Purrazzo blocked and countered into the Alabama Slam! Jack Knife cover!

1....

2...........

Kick Out!

Purrazzo then unleashed a flurry – boot to the shoulder, boot to the face, and an enziguri! Deonna then brought the crowd to its feet with a RIPCORD LARIAT!

She kept hold of the wrist, immediately transitioning into the Fujiwara Armbar!

The submission was in tight, and Ivelisse had no other option....

She TAPPED!

Deonna Purrazzo (8:20)

Purrazzo celebrated modestly, but her eyes were full of fire and determination. On commentary:

Goldenboy: I think it’s safe to say that we may be witnessing Deonna Purrazzo at her peak. She looks sharp, confident, and there is no question who is next on her list.

Veda Scott: You are absolutely right, Goldenboy. Deonna’s in the best shape of her life, and that Fujiwara Armbar is perhaps the most dangerous submission in all of women’s wrestling. Once she locks it in, it’s over. She is sending a message to Tessa Blanchard every time she makes someone tap.

Mission accomplished — Deonna was showcased as the clear number one contender, and the Fujiwara Armbar continues to get over as a killer finish. Keep building that hold as her identity. Ivelisse loses nothing; she played her role well as a skilled opponent.

Back inside the WSW Control Center, Mike Tenay said:

Alright, another impressive victory for Deonna Purrazzo.

Still to come, we will breakdown the Grand Prix action from Thursday night. But next, we take a look at one of the brightest, new stars in WSW...Alexander Hammerstone.

This summer, we’ve seen Hammerstone win the inaugural Elite 8 Tournament in dominant fashion and in recent weeks – he's declared he’s on the hunt for a manager. An agent that will be able to capitalize on his ROI...Return On Impact.

Match Two: Alex Reynolds vs. Alexander Hammerstone

The second match of OverDrive was a singles match between Alex Reynolds and Alexander Hammerstone. Reynolds was already in the ring as Hammerstone made his entrance, full of arrogance.

Hammerstone jawed with fans as he walked down the ramp. At ringside, he yelled at a fan:

It’s called a push up fat ass – do some and get rid of those man boobs!

Once in the ring, he flexed and posed in the center.

At the bell, Hammerstone flexed and challenged Reynolds to meet him, but Reynolds hesitated. Hammerstone charged and pinned Reynolds in the corner, driving knees into the midsection. Hammerstone tossed him with a T-Bone Suplex, tossing a grown man like he weighed nothing at all!

The camera cut to the crowd where Konnan was seen at ringside, watching closely.

Goldenboy: Well how about that! That’s Konnan getting a closer look at Hammerstone.

Veda Scott: We know that Hammerstone is looking for a manager, and the market is open. We know Dahlia Black has her eye on him and now Konnan looks interested as well.

Hammerstone whipped Reynolds into the corner. Reynolds got his boots up on a charge and connected on a quick chop, but it had NO effect.

Hammerstone shook his head and yelled:

Get your weight up!

He then drove Reynolds into the corner with a clothesline. Hammerstone followed with a thunderous running backbreaker!

Hammerstone then turned Reynolds inside out with a sick discus lariat!

Hammerstone signaled for the end, and he hoisted Reynolds up...

NIGHTMARE PENDULUM!

1...

2....

3.....

Alexander Hammerstone (2:05)

Hammerstone flexed over Alex Reynold’s body, shouting to the camera:

This is what money looks like! R...O...I!

At ringside, Konnan nodded in approval, clearly impressed by the dominance on display.

Textbook squash that achieved everything required. Hammerstone’s heel work is beginning to click – he's starting to draw legitimate boos. The managerial scouting subplot continues to add dimension.

Short, explosive, and visually impressive.

Back in Control Center:

Another impressive victory for Alexander Hammerstone, and there appears to be multiple suitors interested in representing one of the brightest new stars in WSW.

We now turn attention to the 2019 Grand Prix. Night Two took place in Phoenix this past Thursday on the Paramount Network.

Highlights of the matches are shown as Tenay’s voice narrates:

In the A Block, Will Ospreay took on Bandido. As he has done since his arrival in WSW, Bandido impressed and pushed Ospreay to the limit. But The Aerial Assassin—and his new finisher, the Hidden Blade – proved too much. Ospreay continues his impressive early run and moves to 2-0 with 4 Points.

WSW World Champion Kenny Omega continues to shock the world, scoring the fastest victory in Grand Prix history – defeating Austin Aries in just :26. Omega improves to 2-0, while Aries drops to 0-2.

And then, perhaps the upset of the night – Ricochet, fueled by the desire to prove himself, pinned AJ Styles. Ricochet avoids the dreaded 0-2 start and earned his first two points of the tournament.

A_Block_Results_Night_Two.jpeg

We cut to a promo.

Inside a locker room, Ricochet sat on a bench, towel around his neck, breathing heavily but smiling.

You know...it’s hard to even describe the emotions right now. Every win matters – but there are some that just matter more.

And beating AJ Styles? That falls in that category.

AJ’s been one of the best in the world for as long as I can remember – and to stand across from him, to go toe-to-toe, and win? That means everything.

You know man...there were times I didn’t think I’d get here. Times I wondered if I’d ever break through. But tonight...tonight felt like the moment it all clicked. On this stage...in front of that crowd.

I’ve been doing this since I was fifteen years old. I’ve wrestled in high school gyms, dark, seedy buildings – filled with even sketchier people...hell, I once wrestled in a field somewhere in Indiana. But through it all, I knew that if I kept pushing, if I kept working – something special would happen.

Something special happened tonight. And now it’s on me to keep that going. I know my worth. I know my ability. I know I can main event Madison Square Garden...and I know I can be the face of WSW.

Ricochet exhaled and looked down at the floor for a moment, letting the moment sink in further.

The door opened and Kenny Omega stepped in. The WSW World Championship was over his shoulder, and he wore a Golden Triangle tank top. The two men looked at each other for a moment before embracing in a quick hug. Kenny spoke:

That’s a helluva job, man. I’m proud of you.

For too long, I’ve heard people say you had “limitless potential.” Frankly, I think that’s an insult. You’re not potential – you're great right NOW.

We all know what’s next. I’ve been dreading this since the tournament pairings got announced. You and me, Night Three in St. Louis.

I love you like a brother. You welcomed me into WSW and had my back from day one. When that bell rings, none of that changes – but it’s not about friendship – it's about proving we’re the best in the world.

Ricochet smiled and extended his hand to his stablemate:

Let’s make “best in the world” mean something again and give them a show like they’ve never seen before.

Backstage, the camera found Will Ospreay standing against a brick wall, sweat still glistening on his face.

You know, when you’re in there with Bandido, something changes inside you. The man unlocks something special – he pushes you to that next level, and if you don’t find it, it you don’t rise with him, you’re getting beat.

Tonight...nothing was stopping me from those two points. Nothing.

Bruv, I NEED this Grand Prix like a starving man needs food and water. That’s not just a line – that's the truth. This is my life right now.

The madness of the Grand Prix –it's beautiful chaos. Every week, everything just levels up. And next week...next week is personal.

I’m wrestling AJ Styles.

It’s not a secret – AJ Styles is my hero.

There is no Will Ospreay without AJ Styles. I used to watch his TNA matches back in 2004, 2005, 2006 – sitting in my bedroom as a kid, just AMAZED at what he could do. It was like time bent for him – like he was on another planet, bruv. He played the game in a way we’d never even imagined. I was mesmerized by it. I wanted to be AJ Styles.

I can never thank him enough, because somehow, some way, AJ Styles gave me the confidence to become Will Ospreay – thousands of miles away, across an ocean.

The man I am today is confident in his own skin. I know my abilities.

I’ve wrestled AJ once before – Inception 2018. I’ll be honest with you, bruv – I was nervous as hell that night. I threw up in a bin just seconds before I walked through the curtain. I gave him everything I had, and I still came up short. That night, I was a kid wrestling his idol, thinking that if I could beat him, it would somehow validate me.

But I lost. And I was numb. But I didn’t break. I don’t break anymore.

The sun came up the next day, and I told myself I had to work harder, I had to bust my ass, because no one was going to feel sorry for me. So I WORKED. I fought. I grew.

And here we are, nearly a year and a half later, and I get this rematch.

Next week isn’t about a kid wrestling his idol. Next week, I wrestle AJ Styles as an equal. As a a man hellbent on winning the Grand Prix.

AJ, I love you mate...but next week you’ll find out the difference between the man who inspired me...and the man I’ve become.

I NEED those two points!

Ospreay stared dead into the camera, jaw clenched, before slowly walking off screen.

A promo aired for Ignition’s move to Tuesday nights, beginning on October 1.

The package began with quick cuts:
  • Kenny Omega hitting a V-Trigger
  • Cody executing the Cross Rhodes
  • Tessa Blanchard staring into the camera
  • Jon Moxley hitting the Death Rider DDT
  • Will Ospreay flipping through the air
  • Crowds losing their minds
An unnamed narrator says:

This is a movement. A revolution.

The world’s best – unfiltered, unrelenting, and uncensored.

Beginning October 1st – the best wrestling television show today moves to Tuesday nights.

Only on the Paramount Network.

One On One with Jenn Decker aired next.

Jenn Decker sat across from Dr. Britt Baker in a relaxed atmosphere.

Jenn Decker: Welcome in to One on One. I am Jenn Decker, and I’m very excited to be sitting across from the newest member of the WSW Women’s Division, Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. Britt, let’s start with the question everyone asks first – you are actually a real dentist, right?

Britt Baker: (laughs) Yes, I am. I’ve been practicing dentistry for the last year. And honestly, I feel so lucky – because it’s like I’m getting to live out both of my dream jobs at once. Wrestling and dentistry, each in their own weird, wonderful way.

Balancing it isn’t always easy – long days in the office, early flights, late nights, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Jenn Decker: So how did all of this start? How did you get into professional wrestling?

Britt Baker: I’ve been a wrestling fan my whole life. I grew up watching, and I was just completely obsessed. When I got to college, I finally got the nerve to start training – and fell in love with it instantly. Wrestling became my release from the grind of studying and school. I loved the mental side of it, the preparation for the chaos that happens when the bell rings...but most of all, I found fun in all of it. The ups, the downs – the bumps, the bruises.

A day never goes by where I don’t wake up smiling, because if ten-year-old Brittany could see me now, she’d know I’m living our dream.

Jenn Decker: And now you’re here in WSW. What does success look like for you?

Britt Baker: For me, the ultimate success will be the day I stand in that ring and hold the Women’s World Championship over my head.

I know it’s a climb – the talent here is unbelievable. You’ve got to bring your absolute best every single night, and that excites me.

But I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t bet on myself every step of the way. I’ve worked too hard, studied too long, and sacrificed too much to stop now.
I’m here now. You can’t ignore me – and I plan on proving exactly why.

Britt smiled confidently as the camera zoomed in on her slowly before transitioning back to the Control Center.

Back in the Control Center, Mike Tenay said:

Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. will be in action next week right here on OverDrive – and after hearing from her tonight, it’s clear she’s ready to make an impact in the WSW Women’s Division.

Right now, we turn our attention to one of the most talked about stories in WSW – Johnny Mundo and the LA Express.

Mundo’s ego has brought out a darker, more dangerous side in recent weeks. We all remember the savage attack on Brian Cage, and since that night, we’ve still yet to see – or even hear – from Cage.

Tonight, Mundo steps into singles action against Lee Johnson.

Match Three: Lee Johnson vs. Johnny Mundo (w/ Taya Valkyrie & Mike Bennett)
The third match of OverDrive was a singles match between Lee Johnson and Johnny Mundo. Johnson got a polite reaction but was largely unknown by the crowd. Boos rained down as Johnny Mundo and the LA Express made their entrance. Mundo taunted the fans at ringside, mockingly blowing them kisses.

The two locked up, and Mundo showed off with quick arm drags and a dropkick before striking a pose. They went to lock up again, but Mundo booted Johnson in the gut and smirked.

They hit the ropes, and leapfrogs and drop downs followed. Mundo halted his momentum by hooking the ropes. Johnson charged, and Mundo elevated up and over the top, but Johnson landed on his feet on the apron.

Johnson hit a gamenguri! As he went for a springboard, Taya Valkyrie grabbed his foot from the floor, drawing loud boos.

BOOM!

A leaping knee strike from Mundo sent Johnson crashing onto the floor!

Mundo hit a baseball slide. In one motion, Mundo landed on his feet on the floor, wrapped his arm around Valkyrie, and the duo kissed – drawing even more jeers. Mundo called for a high five from Mike Bennett, who reluctantly obliged.

Mundo rolled Johnson back inside and hit the Moonlight Drive for a 2 count!

Mundo applied a tight chinlock and began trash talking the crowd.

Phoenix sucks! The only thing good about Arizona is it’s close to California!

Johnson fought out with elbows. He ducked a clothesline and dropkicked Mundo into the corner. Johnson followed up with a step up enziguri followed by a running dropkick into the corner! Then another!

Johnson charged for a third dropkick, but Mundo dodged and Johnson CRASHED into the turnbuckles!

Mundo seized the opportunity and hit a draping neckbreaker!

Mundo took Johnson up top and looked for a superplex. Johnson fought back though with forearms. Johnson shoved Mundo off and CROTCHED him on the top rope!

Johnson rose on the top and leapt...

DOUBLE FOOT STOMP TO THE BACK!

Mundo flopped into the ring, and Johnson covered...

2....

Kick Out!

Knowing the opportunity at hand, Johnson vaulted to the top once again....

FROG SPLASH!

MUNDO GOT HIS KNEES UP!

Johnson recoiled in pain, as Mundo rose with a sneer. He BLASTED Johnson with a Shining Wizard! Grabbing Lee Johnson’s wrists, Mundo screamed:

This one’s for you, Cage!

CURB STOMP!

Lee Johnson was down and out, but Mundo wasn’t finished...

EL FIN DE MUNDO!

Johnny Mundo (6:24)

Johnny Mundo and Taya Valkyrie celebrated like they just won the Super Bowl. Mundo gave an over the top high five to Bennett and then had both of his LA Express stablemates raise his arms in victory as the crowd booed thunderously.

Mundo preened into the camera and shouted:

Melissa, I’m ready for my close up whenever you are!

Effective, simple TV match. Mundo’s personality carried the segment, and the pacing gave Johnson just enough offense to look credible without taking away from Mundo’s heat.

Mundo’s character work is top tier – his facials and the way he carries himself are great. Johnson has no heat, but the fans also don’t know him. Athletically, he’s sound, but he needs to work on showcasing his personality to build a connection with the audience.

Back in the Control Center, Mike Tenay broke down the B Block:

The B Block of the Grand Prix continues to be filled with surprises. Two of the early favorites – Adam Cole and Claudio Castagnoli – have both started 0-2. Why is that important? No wrestler in the history of the Grand Prix has ever begun 0-2 and gone on to win the tournament.

Highlights of the matches air as Tenay breaks things down:

Adam Cole faced off with Jon Moxley. Moxley has been the ultimate wildcard, and since his arrival in June, Moxley has absolutely set WSW on fire. That momentum has carried into the Grand Prix. Cole pushed Moxley further than any man in WSW, but in the end, the “Death Rider” dropped Cole into an 0-2 hole while improving to 2-0 himself.

Kota Ibushi also moved to 2-0, showcasing his brutal striking skills in an absolute fight with Bobby Lashley. Ibushi became just the third man in WSW history to pin Lashley, scoring the victory with his devastating Kamigoye strike. A story to watch moving forward – the health of Bobby Lashley, as he continues to battle through bone spurs in his elbow.

And it was all about survival for Cody, and the Intercontinental Champion did just that. Cody outlasted Claudio Castagnoli, shocking “The Assassin” and his manager Salina de la Renta to pick up his first two points of the Grand Prix.

But what happened afterwards was chilling – a message sent to Cody by Ethan Carter. A stark reminder that the brutal waltz between Cody and Carter is far from over.

We cut to a promo. Backstage, Kota Ibushi sat inside a stairwell. A towel was draped around his neck, and he spoke in Japanese with English subtitles.

俺のことを知っている人は多い。でも、俺の旅を知っている人は少ない。
(Many people know me, but few truly know my journey.)

何年も俺は彷徨っていた。心と体を鍛えられる、本当の家を探していた。
(For years, I wandered, searching for a true home — a place that would test my body and spirit.)

2年前、俺はWSWでそれを見つけた。全てを賭けて、アメリカに来た。家族も、生活も、全てを置いてきた。
(Two years ago, I found it in WSW. I went all in. I came to America and left everything — my family, my life — behind.)

俺はここで最高を求めている。最高の選手と戦いたい。それが俺の生き方だ。
(I came here because I wanted to fight the best. That’s who I am.)

今、俺はBブロックのトップにいる。コーディやラシュリーを倒すことは確かに大きなことだ。
(Now, I sit atop the B Block. Beating Cody and Lashley — yes, it’s a big deal.)

でも俺にとって、それは運じゃない。それは証明だ。俺が全てを捨てた決断は正しかったという証明だ。
(But to me, it’s not luck. It’s proof — proof that the risk of leaving comfort for the dangers of the unknown was the right choice.)

痛みは敵じゃない。痛みは俺がまだ生きているという証だ。
(Pain is not my enemy. Pain is the reminder that I am still alive.)

俺の物語は、まだ始まったばかりだ。
(My story is only beginning.)

俺はゴールデントライアングルを代表する。家族を代表する。そして、俺を信じてくれた全てのファンを代表する。
(I represent Golden Triangle. I represent my family. And I represent every fan who has believed in me.)

残り三試合。全てを懸ける覚悟はできている。
(Three matches remain. I know what’s at stake.)

神の力が必要なら…俺はその覚悟で挑む。
(If it takes a godlike effort... then I accept that challenge.)

グランプリは勝つためだけのものじゃない。自分が誰なのかを見つける旅だ。
(The Grand Prix is not just about winning — it’s about validating who I am.)

答えを見つけた時…誰にも止められない。
(I promise... no one will stop me.)

Ibushi stood, adjusted the towel, and walked up the stairs into the shadows as the camera lingered on the empty stairwell.

Inside of a bathroom, Adam Cole stood over a sink, breathing heavily with his head down. A half-empty bottle of water sat on the counter. The camera never leaves the mirror, and we just see Cole’s reflection in the glass.

You ever look at yourself and not recognize the guy in the mirror?

That's never happened to me, because I never doubted who I am.

Cole leaned closer to the mirror, rage bubbling inside him:

Two losses...

0-2...

Everyone keeps reminding me. Everyone keeps whispering about it in the hallways -- “No one’s ever come back from 0-2.”

I know what it means. But here’s what they don’t understand – I'm not everyone else.

Cole straightened up, glaring into the mirror. His voice rose with venom.

I’m Adam Cole, and I am un-god damn deniable.

And if they’ve forgotten that...I’ll make them remember.

Cole ran his hand through his hair.

You back a snake into a corner, and you expect it to curl up and die? No, no, no. A cornered snake doesn’t plead. It doesn’t pray. It BITES. And when it strikes...it doesn’t stop to think. It doesn’t hesitate. It kills to survive.

I carried this company on my back while everyone else coasted on my spotlight. The merch, the ratings, the headlines – they're built on MY NAME!

You don’t get the Grand Prix. You don’t get Omega. You don't get Moxley. You don’t get WSW...without Adam Cole.

I’m not here for glory. I’m not here for pride. I’m here because this entire company – every single wrestler, every single fan, every single so-called champion – exists to build my legend.

I AM WSW. I’m the star, the foundation, the reason this place even matters.

He exhaled sharply, gripping the water bottle so tight it crinkled in his hand.

And if you think this story ends with Adam Cole on his knees...then you haven’t been paying attention.

Cole HURLED the bottle at the mirror – it burst, splattering water across the glass. Cole’s exhaled deeply. His reflection was distorted in the ripples.

Because I’m not done yet. Not even close.

The camera lingered on the distorted reflection of Cole’s face behind the stream of water before fading to black.

Now, for tonight’s final matchup here on WSW OverDrive – we will see the South Pacific Power Trip take on Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson in tag team action.

This summer, we’ve seen old wounds heal as Gallows, Anderson, and AJ Styles joined forces for the first time ever in WSW. Known as The Club, these three men have won titles around the world. This week on Ignition, Gallows & Anderson made their intentions clear – they are coming for the Death Busters and the World Tag Team Championships. Tonight, they look to take their first steps towards a title shot.

Match Four: South Pacific Power Trip (w/ Dahlia Black) vs. Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson

The fourth match of OverDrive was a tag team match between the South Pacific Power Trip (Travis Banks & TK Cooper) and Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson. Gallows & Anderson received a solid reaction for their entrance, and they walked to the ring with purpose and intensity.

All four men met in the center of the ring for a stare down. On commentary, Goldboy noted:

How about this for a start...boy you can just feel the intensity radiating from the South Pacific Power Trip. Travis Banks and TK Cooper want to prove they aren’t second fiddle to anyone.

Anderson screamed:

Let’s go boys!

All four men exploded on each other!

Fists flew, and a borderline bar fight broke out!

Gallows dropped both opponents with a double clothesline before tossing Banks through the ropes to the floor. Inside the ring, Anderson took control on Cooper, hammering away in the corner.

Anderson made the tag to Gallows, who whipped Cooper corner to corner – unloading with loud, echoing overhand chops.

Gallows tagged Anderson back in, and they attempted a double suplex, but Cooper countered mid-air with a DDT! He dove over and tagged in Travis Banks!

Banks stormed in and lit up Gallows and Anderson with machine gun strikes. He lowbridged Gallows to the outside and connected with a spinning neckbreaker on Anderson for a 2 count!

South Pacific Power Trip showed their tag team prowess, isolating Anderson and cutting the ring in half. They made frequent tags – rapidly coming in and out to keep the “Machine Gun” grounded.

South Pacific Power Trip hit an impressive flurry: stereo enziguris and a double superkick! Cover!

Kick Out!

They set up for a double team: uranage-to-knees combo, but Anderson reversed by DRIVING Banks face-first into Cooper’s knees with a reverse STO!

Anderson looked at Gallows and inched forward. He went to dive for the tag...

Cooper grabbed his foot...

Anderson nailed an enziguri and dove to make the tag to Doc Gallows!

Gallows exploded into the ring and cleaned house – clotheslines, big boots, and powerslams to each men brought the crowd to their feet.

He tagged in Anderson, and the duo set up for the Magic Killer on TK Cooper, but Banks entered the ring and broke it up!

Banks hit a WICKED roundhouse kick to the sternum of Gallows that dropped the big man!

He turned around and ATE a spinebuster from Anderson!

Gallows and Anderson hit a double team elevated neckbreaker on Banks! TK Cooper climbed to the top and flew...

GALLOWS CAUGHT HIM IN MID-AIR!

BOOT OF DOOM ON TK COOPER!

With the crowd fired up, they finished it...

MAGIC KILLER ON TK COOPER!

Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson (8:14)

Gallows and Anderson stood tall with their arms raised high. They flashed the Too Sweet hand sign and stared into the hard camera – straight business.

On commentary, Veda Scott said:

Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson just reminded WSW why they are one of the best tag teams in the world. They are healthy, focused, and unapologetic!

Solid, physical tag match that re-established Gallows and Anderson as a dangerous, top-tier team. The layout gave them a dominant win while still giving the South Pacific Power Trip credibility. Gallows and Anderson wrestled with purpose and an edge. The crowd liked the finishing stretch (spinebuster, Boot of Doom, Magic Killer).

Banks and Cooper work hard, but they continue to lack an emotional connection with the crowd. Their in-ring is good, but the audience doesn’t have a reason to care.

Mike Tenay closed the show back in the Control Center:

Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson are two names synonymous with tag team excellence over the past decade, and the former two-time WSW World Tag Team Champions just showed why they are a threat once again in the tag team division.

That will do it for us here tonight on OverDrive. I’m Mike Tenay, and from all of us here at World Series Wrestling...thanks so much for watching.
This is WSW OverDrive, and I’ll see you next week!
