I've had this concept for a little bit, but never really made a thread about it. It's basically a "What would you do" The Scenario is the 1993 Royal Rumble match to set up the Wrestlemania 9.

Would you have had Yokozuna win this match to face Bret Hart at WM?

or.

Have another top WWE star like Macho Man or Undertaker go on to face Bret Hart for the belt at WM 9. I would have posted all the names, but those were the only two worthy challengers in the royal rumble match. Ric Flair was in it, but his contract was up before Mania.

So basically post what you would have done. And if you have a idea for the upcoming "What would you do" PM me. Maybe this will be a weekly thing if popular.

I would have Yoko win it because Bret Hart vs. Yoko is gold to me

I would have probably had Randy Savage win it. Savage, seeing as Hogan would just say no, would be a good choice to give the torch to Bret Hart with a job.

Big Yoko fan here and wouldn't like to see him wiped from WWF title history entirely, so this is pretty tough....

I guess the starting point would firstly be, is Bret walking out with the title(***) then yeah, may as well have Bret retain vs Savage @ WM9, but I'd go with the following.

Yoko wins the Rumble.
Yoko > Bret @ WM 9.
Bret > Yoko to win back the belt back at Summerslam 93.
Bret retains > Savage AT WM10.

(***Worth bearing in mind that if Bret is to believed then none of the big guys from the 80's would put Bret over (not just Hogan), so I think there's some doubt whether Savage would have done the job @ WM9.... By WM10 he was just desperate to get ring time again.)

I think we forget during this time there was also a huge face push in mind for Mr. Perfect at the time. He got HUGE pops for being in the 93' Rumble and people boo'd heavily when he was eliminated. I think Mr. Perfect Vs. Bret Hart would not only of been probably the greatest technical wrestling main event in the history of ever, but it would of had alot of energy behind it too making Perfect a house hold name.

Wouldn't the aim be to elevate Bret and cement him as a credible champ rather than use Bret (who'd only just leapt from the mid-card) to elevate someone else?

...Could be wrong, but I think the thought process behind this thread is Hart's often claiming that no-one would pass the torch to him.

Both good points. I know Perfect was getting a good push because of his break off from Heenan and Flair. That would be a awesome main event, but not exactly a guy to put Bret Hart over as a credible champ. Or a serious threat to win the royal rumble. Good idea though. Thats why i thought this thread would be interesting.

Funnily enough, Bret & Perfect had their second kick-ass PPV match 2 1/2 months later at KOTR. What happened with perfects push? vs HBK for the IC @ Summerslam93 then he was back doing comentary & guest reffing by WM10...

Was it that his back injury hadn't truly healed?

Bearing in mind he was active again by the 97/98, IMO, letting Perfect go was a major fuck up by WWE.

I would have said triple threat match (but WWF didnt have that gimmick concept of matches at that time). Macho vs Taker vs Hart. I never thought of Yoko being a maineventer. He is best in tag team actions imo. Him teaming with owen hart later in 1995-1996 was gold imo.

Taker was still a new comer and putting him at the number one contender for the mainevent would be too early imo.
So yeah, I think Macho man was the best option for me to face Hart at WM9.

^^^If you think Yoko/Owen was better than Yoko in singles you are crazy!

...They only put him in a tag team becasue of his increasing weight impacting on his in-ring ability.

He was an awesome big man and a totally credible main eventer.

I definitely agree that the Yokozuna push was awesome as hell. However if it WASN'T to be Yoko, if the purpose were to build up Bret Hart as a credible champion, I think your best bet for a winner would of been Randy Savage. Then at least one guy would of passed the torch to him. lol

Yokozuna was one of the best monsters the WWE ever came out with in my opinion.

We will have another one of these coming soon, as soon as i think of a good scenario.

I either would have had Flair go the distance yet again to face Bret in an epic rematch, or I would have had Savage win. Either way, Mr. Legdrop stays out of it.
