Personally my favorite puroresu match of all time. A super clash to end all super clashes. Possibly the most dangerous heel of all time in Japan Vs. the most beloved face that was ever known in the orient. It's also fondly remembered as one of the best matches to ever come out of New Japan Pro Wrestling.
This match also holds historical significance to the Jushin Liger character, as this match unlocked the fabled "Kishin" Liger transformation of Jushin Liger. Only a great evil such as The Great Muta could be dangerous enough to force Jushin Liger to unlock his most dangerous hidden power. The transformation into Kishin form caused Jushin Thunder Liger to use far more aggressive fighting styles as well as to implement mannerisms similar to his dastardly opponent, The Great Muta.
Muta was a well known and often feared opponent of Japan, as depending on his face paint, he could fight any number of styles, and variations of his dreaded "Mist" were often associated with his facepaint.
It was however during this time that Great Muta was undergoing transformations of his own. Masahiro Chono was leading a group of "New World Order" members to invade Japan at this time, and they were trying to recruit Muta to their side. Muta would confuse the audience as sometimes he would wrestle under his real name "Keiji Mutoh" and be against the NWO, but then he would return to his Great Muta form and be on the side of the NWO.
With the troubled soul of Keiji Mutoh fighting an ongoing battle with his demons, it was up to Jushin Liger to find it within himself the power of Kishin Liger, the polar opposite of the Muta demon, and somehow free his friend of his curse.
Would Jushin Liger be victorious and save the day once again, or would he succumb to the great and powerful influence of the Muta Demon?
