Okay, so this started before the Royal Rumble when Vince was about to fire Orton. Orton slapped, kicked, and punted the Chairman before he could fire him. Orton won the Royal Rumble, assuring himself a spot at the main event at WrestleMania.
Because of the punt, Shane inserted himself into the ordeal, leading to a No Holds Barred match at No Way Out which Orton won. The following night on Raw, Orton and Shane were engaged in an unsanctioned fight. Legacy came out, and Orton eventually punted Shane.
Stephanie came out (after making a call and plea on the phone earlier in the night), and got in Orton's face as he put it, and Orton RKO'd her. This was followed up by Triple H running to the ring, and displaying probably his best sell of character in his career. Truth be told, I don't believe I've seen anyone sell anger or rage as well as Triple H did on Raw last week.
On SmackDown, WWE aired an interview with Triple H re-revealing his marriage to Stephanie was intact, and that Triple H is the father of her children. Triple H using his family as fuel for his feud with Orton.
On Raw, they played up the entire night to the encounter between Triple H and Legacy, which started in the ring as Orton had his hands on a sledgehammer giving a speech and recap which all added up perfectly, and dropped it along with Triple H dropping his once Trips was on the apron.
Triple H got in the ring, took off his jacket, and voila, a sledgehammer appears from behind his back. The fight was on, the chase was on, DiBiase even slipped in a "OH SHIT!" whilst running down the hallway. Orton and Ted locked themselves in a locker room, barricading the door with a table and couch. Triple H smashed through the door with his shoulder, and had Legacy cornered. He hit Ted in the head with the handle of the sledgehammer rather convincingly, and then had Orton cornered. They threw in some comedy with Orton's "NOOO!" plea, and Trip's "YES!" response, with a wild swing/throw to the mirror as Orton fled the scene.
Hunter continued to give chase and smashed the window of Legacy's ride, then threw the sledgehammer at them as they peeled off, standing there fuming.
IDK about most of you, but seeing this side of Triple H is incredible. He's selling it almost better than Orton is selling the Voices role. The feud is believable on so many counts and is very personal.
I'd also like to take this time to resurrect a comment someone else made in regards to my Kane/Taker suggestion... yes, if the WWE knows it's worth money and can sell a feud and keep their word alive, they will resurrect something from an entire decade ago to sell the point.
Anyways, I haven't been this hyped over a storyline and action in the WWE since the Austin era. I'm also more and more glued every week.
And the fact that they did a backstage skit for once in a long time, to end Raw at that, is incredible. Can't wait 'til next week already :/.
