Wow its been a loooooooooooooooooooooong time since I have been able to bring you a column. We will chalk it up to a current job, new friends and….ladies coming into my life, and just plain old laziness. This week, fact or fiction is back baby. I wont be participating in it this time because I made it too big (heh that’s what she said). This week we have three vets and a noob. Veteran taco bender Soulpower, veteran zamboner Monkeystyle, veteran semen (you’re in the Navy right?) Montana, and busting his F or F cherry, Airfixx!

The return of Christian Cage was completely blown by the WWE and his subsequent jobbing to a virtual nobody like Jack Swagger is an even worse decision.

Airfixx:Fiction AND Fact (respectively)... I got no problem with his being on ECW nor did I want to see him thrust into a fued or alliance with Edge straight away – I thought it important that he re-establish himself as more than just an old affiliate of one of the main guys, BUT him jobbing in a championship match within weeks of his debut suggests to me that maybe, JUST MAYBE, the speculation that Vince wants to bury the ‘original TNA defectee’ might just have some truth to it. Otherwise, wdf???

Montana: Fiction: I do think the wwe could have done a better job with putting Christian in a major role on Raw/SD however i see why they did what they did. Yeah, he lost a match, but so did Y2J upon his return. A year from now, no will will even remember his loss to Jack Swagger. On top of that, Swagger is only going to be getting better, as the years pass.

Monkeystyle: Fiction: Here are the facts. First off I don't get a chance to see ECW live, so I didn't hear about this until the following day. When I did I was surprised to say the least. At first I was kind of disappointed that he hadn't returned on a grander platform butr after considering it for a bit, I came around to the idea. Here's why. First off, it was a genuine surprise; none of us had anticipated it. That doesn't happen very often with today's wrestling media, so it's always nice when it does. Furthermore, it's a great rub for ECW too. It gives ECW that same feeling of 'anything can happen' much like both Raw and Smackdown has. Moreover, we all know that Christian is going to win the ECW title, and while yes many complain that it's too small time for him, fact is, it'll be the biggest title he's ever won. Finally, Jack Swagger will look good in this too. He'll go on to have a good match with Christian at Wrestlemania, drop the title and go on to bigger and better things, much like Mr. Cage will not long afterwards. I see nothing but positives here.

SoulpowerFact: Christian already had the perfect scenario for his return, but due to the higher-ups wanting to "Pwn the internet fans" they decided to go with another choice (Matt turning heel) and fucked over Christian in the process. Christian vs Edge, Christian vs Edge, or even E & C vs The Hardys would have made the company some money. Instead, we get Christian jobbing to a Rookie in his 3rd match back. Just an all-around botch by WWE.

The WWE seem to be playing it “safe” this year with the for now apparent John Cena/Edge and Randy Orton/HHH main events as opposed to going outside the box and having a more unfamiliar main event.

Airfixx:In terms of the matches that will presumably now transpire, FACT - 2 tried and tested fueds that have already done everything BUT headline WM just doesn’t scream ‘biggest’ event in the history of WWE/WWF. That said, the seemingly last minute nature of the plans says to me they are doing anything but being ‘safe’... I think up until late last year they were hanging out for something that they’ve since had to pull the plug on.

Montana: Fact: Either "Playing it Safe" Or had no clue what else to book. I'm fine with the Orton/HHH match, however to me, it didn't leave much for Cena. I thought Cena should be in the main event. Which is why Edge got thrown into the mix, in my opinion.

Monkeystyle: Fiction: I'm going to go more into depth on the why's and wherefores of this question a little later on, but I'll say this for now. I like this. I believe this Wrestlemania will be a series of finales so to speak. These two feuds have been some of the longest lasting in recent memory. Edge/Cena has been hot for the last few years and HHH/Orton has been on and off for even longer. This Wrestlemania will be the final climax of these two feuds as well as the end and beginning of a few other significant feuds as well.

SoulpowerFact:I know people will throw out that Orton vs HHH is now PERSONAL (ZOMG!!), the fact remains that its a match we've seen numerous times, and that frankly, have been hit or miss (In terms of in-ring action) in the past. Edge vs Cena, although they've delivered for the most part, had pretty much a year long feud not that long ago.. Basically, WWE is admitting to themselves that they little main event talent, by rehashing feuds we've seen before.

The Undertaker is the greatest worker today simply because of the fact that every time Wrestlemania rolls around, a man trying to end his streak is tantamount to challenging for one of the most prestigious titles in the company.

Airfixx:FICTION... Not the absolute greatest, but interesting point, in fact within which is the answer to the “should the streak be broken” debate... If it is effectively another ‘title’ then the streak need to broken (at least upon his retirement). Afterall, you ‘can’t ’ to retire as world champ.

Montana: Fiction: Having a great streak doesn't make you the greatest worker. In fact Undertaker was getting spoon fed victories for quite some time. Also if The Ultimate Warrior wasn't fired in 91, he likely would have beat Taker at WM 8. To me when i think of "Great Worker" I think of guys like HBK, AJ Styles, Brian Danielson.

Monkeystyle: Fiction: Not much to say on this one to be quite honest with you. I'm not saying he's a bad worker or anything but to call him the greatest worker today just because he has a well marketed gimmick is kinda ridiculous.
SoulpowerFiction:Shawn Michaels is the greatest worker today simply because of the fact that everytime he gets in the ring, he seems to be in the best match of the night, regardless of the level of talent that his opponent has.

Staying with the Undertaker theme: The Undertaker losing CLEANLY to Kozlov after a mere powerslam on SD greatly diminished the returns that could have been had on the Taker Streak match at Wrestlemania as that one loss in that manner hurt Undertakers credibility.

Airfixx:FACT. Shitty finish to the match and twisted booking logic. Not to mention how bad it makes HBK look if he doesn’t beat Taker.

Montana: Fiction: Although it was complete BS, I still don't think it hurt Taker's credbility at all. If anything it makes the booking on SD (Michael Hayes) look bad. Undertaker has been around so long a loss or two here and there don't matter much. Plus Taker beat him in the EC.

Monkeystyle: Fiction: No, I've always seen Undertaker much like Shawn Micheals, they're both Mr. Wrestlemania, which is why the feud is so interesting. The idea is that they both bring their A game to Wrestlemania. Something that they don't bring to every match. Not to mention Undertaker was just caught by surprise by the powerslam. It happens to everyone, you get caught off guard, you lose. Undertaker is not immune to this.

SoulpowerFact:Simply because it made Taker look the weakest he has in years. The guy is called The Phenom, yet he finds himself losing to what is a deadly finisher... If you're living in the 1940's!

The Chris Jericho/Legends angle is the best storyline in wrestling today.

Airfixx:FICTION. As a WM storyline it’s kinda cool, but lets face it, we’ve already had The Legend Killer.... ‘The Legend Disrespector’ doesn’t quite have the same impact does it? : P

Montana: Fiction: I do enjoy the Y2J/Legends segments, i wouldn't say its a great storyline yet. I need to see something set up for mania, before i can say its a great storyline. Plus its getting repetitive. I would say the Sting/Angle MEM imploding angle peaks my interest the most. It's been a slow build, the parts work well together, the promos are great. They've really added another dimension to their characters.

Monkeystyle: Fact: I'm digging it the most because Jericho is giving the best promos right now, not to mention his career. He's set up in an angle that will hopefully end up in a genuine, satisfying surprise and a great match at Wrestlemania. My personal fanboy wet dream is having Mickey Rourke confront Chris Jericho on Raw in a segment that ends with Jericho challenging Rourke to a match, with Rourke declining, but saying that he's found another Hollywood actor who will fight in his place and introduce the Rock for a one time match at Wrestlemania 25. I can dream can't I?

SoulpowerFact:I'm a bit biased on this one. As the weeks have gone on, I've found myself caring less and less about Orton vs HHH (Which started off well, but has gotten worse in recent weeks), while I've been enjoying not only Jericho's work, but the promo work by Steamboat, Piper and Flair. My lone problem with this angle is that I can't see the payoff at WM (Whether its Hogan vs Jericho, Austin vs Jericho etc.) living up to the greatness that these past weeks have given us.

As of right now, Wrestlemania is shaping up to be a lackluster show with two mains that have already been seen, a streak match that may have two great workers but has already been seen, crappy Money In The Bank participants, one pretty hot undercard feud (Jericho/Legends) and one lukewarm one in the Hardy Boyz saga.

Airfixx:Sorry, but I’m completely on the fence. Orton & Jericho’s storylines (and the potential for tag title unification) give me a spark of hope, but thus far there’s no particularly mouth-watering matches on offer and considering the sloppily thrown together Taker/HBK/(and please don’t add Kossy?) angle, even HBK v Taker isn’t as appealing as it should have been. MITB has been announced now, but TBH, I was hoping we'd see the midcard/tag titles ' WM instead and leave the spots/ladders etc. to one of the big 1-on-1 matches (or e.g. IC 4-way) for a change.

Montana: Fact: I don't know if i would say "lackluster" but compared to your average WWE PPV, to me, the rumored card does not stand out. Even compared to WM past. The last year, the WWE put more emphasis on making every PPV purchase worthy, and i think we are seeing that hurt WM this year. They wasted the Jeff Hardy title win feel good moment. There just isn't anything rumored that interest me. For the 25th anniversary I thought the wwe would pull a rabbit out of their hat.

Monkeystyle: Fiction: Regardless of what you think about the storylines heading into the event the matches will more than likely satisfy in their own right. And for me that's all I'm looking for.

SoulpowerFact:Taker vs Shawn is the only match I'm really looking forward to (Assuming that it happens), because at least its been about 10 years since their last singles match. The rest of the card are re-hashes of recent feuds, and although the Matt-Jeff storyline has been all right, I just don't see the match being all that good. The card just doesn't have a Wrestlemania feel to it... At least not at the moment.

The WWE are finally starting to elevate the tag team division with a real feud between The Colons and Miz/Morrison.

Airfixx:Extreeeeeemely reluctant to temp fate, but FACT. They have a few good teams now let’s see how far WWE will push them.

Montana: Fiction: The tag division comes and goes. I thought that about 6 months when Priceless was the tag champs, but now they rarely wrestle. Cryme Tyme rarely wrestles. You need more than 2 teams with 2 belts to be considered sucessful.

Monkeystyle: Uncertain: If this does actually lead to a unification of the belts then great. It elevates Miz and Morrison huge and it makes the tag belt scene a lot better with more competition cross brand wise. If not, then after the feud they pretty much just go back to feuding with nobody again.

SoulpowerFiction:Yes, The Colons vs Miz/Morrison has been an entertaining feud and they have delivered in all of their matches, but the fact remains... They've faced each other 3 times in about 5 weeks. Know why? BECAUSE THEY'RE TWO OF ONLY THREE TAG TEAMS THAT GETS TO WRESTLE! (Cryme Tyme being the other). You can't elevate a tag-division with the same two teams going at it week in and week out, not matter how good the matches are.

TNA have finally hit on something to make their program better as evidenced by their back to back 1.3 ratings.

Airfixx:FICTION. Haven’t watched that much of late, but I can’t say I noted anything particularly different when I have.

Montana:Fact: I'm kinda in the middle on this one, but slightly more on the fact side. I think its more people are tuning into TNA to see some of their favorite wrestlers now with a better personalty. You have a nice mix of young stars/veterns. Good tag team and X division. You got some legends. They provide a faster paced show, with lot's of promos. As far as their ratings go, they could stay the same, or drop. But i think their programming has improved the last few months.

Monkeystyle: I'm not answering any questions regarding ratings and you know why. :D

SoulpowerFact:I don't see what that something is, but the ratings for the past couple of weeks speak for themselves.

The WWE is making the right choice to go with a very old school storyline between HHH and Randy Orton.

Airfixx:FICTION. Purely because an elaborate ‘new-skool’ storyline, if executed well enough, would still ‘hit the spot’ and at the end of the day that’s all that matters.

Montana:Fact: ONLY because they didn't have anything else heading into Wrestlemania. I probably would have booked Cena/Orton, however at the time, they booked themselves in a corner. Its a simple storyline, and they've done a solid job hyping the feud.

Monkeystyle: Fact: It's simple, it's straight forward, it's ideal. The only thing I could do without is HHH's over-exaggerated angry faces.

SoulpowerFiction:If it was "old school" this feud would be about the title, which by the way, hasn't even been brought up these past couple of weeks. Hell, Orton hasn't even announced that he's going for HHH's title. This is just another McMahon driven storyline where the thing that should matter (The title) is taking a backseat to the McMahon family

The draft this year will more than likely not have a great effect as most of the great marquee matches that could have happened at this point HAVE already happened.

Airfixx:FACT. Only things that spring to mind are Taker/Cena, Edge/Orton, a PROPER HHH/Edge feud and no doubt Cena v Batista 2. It surprised me how quickly they exhausted the ‘freshness’ of this years draft.

Montana:Fact: Seems a little early to start thinking draft. Lots of wrestlers were injuried this year, and they will give the brand a new jolt when they return. There are still matches each brand has yet to do.

Monkeystyle: Fiction: No hard facts here folks, just gut feeling on this one. This year's draft will be huge. I would go so far as to say it will be a complete re-drafting of all the rosters aside champions. Hence Wrestlemania being a finale for many feuds.

SoulpowerFact:There are very few "Dream-matchups" left, and not even switching around some of the talent will change that. Its time for some new talent to step up, and time for WWE to get behind the talent that does just that.

Well that does it for this weeks NSZ. Thank you to everyone who participated and to all those who are reading. I promise to get you a more regular column from now on. Scouts honor! :D

You're washed up, no need for you to come back. :shifty:
No, but seriously, I was waiting for you to make a new NSZ, so it's good to see you back. Pretty solid column, but like Soulpower said, it would've been good to hear your opinions a bit more

Damn, damn. I agree with a lot of what people have said. Christian winning the ecw title is the biggest title he's ever one (once he gets it), WM doesn't really stand, the tag team division does come and go, and HBK/Taker is the only thing I'm looking foward ti atm. Orton/HHH going into mania is about a 8/10 hype wise imo. The 3 way for the world title is going to be good, matt/jeff should be interesting if it happens. MITB doesn't seem too good so far.. Kane, Henry... Shit! I like the IC title on the line with punk/JBL, and Jericho's probably one of the best superstars in the wwe right now.

You've got an awesome line up for that fact or fiction. Sometimes there are guys in it and I just think, "I don't give a fuck what they say," but you picked four posters who are very intelligent and that I respect, so I assume everybody else does too. Great edition here.

Sorry I'm a bit late K-man, but never late than never, m i rit?

Good read as always. Nice to see you got Airfixx in on this since I generally agree with him and he presents a good, logical opinion. Kinda disappointed we didn't get any thoughts from you yourself, so do that next time plz.

I remember I was in on this once. What happened man? :(

Christian is in the MITB, so I would assume that he would not win the ECW championship at WM. Won't that then make his ECW stint pointless?

Unless he wins the MITB match then no (Even then, pointless isn't exactly accurate - He's already gone some way to legitimising Swagger's title run).

He's replaced Matt Hardy as the face of the company (ECW, not WWE). We'll have to wait and see if this is a long or short term gig.
