Sunday night, Samoa Joe announced that he was relinquishing the WWE NXT Championship due to an injury and not being cleared by WWE medical. Fightful Select has learned this morning that an original Raw script called for him to actually appear on tonight's show. We're not sure what Joe was scheduled to do or if he'll remain on the program, but we were told it was in relation to promoting the relaunch of NXT on Tuesday night.

Fightful will work to find out more about what Joe was slated to do, but some NXT talent had been made aware of internal rumors that Joe was planned to appear.

Feels like Bayley's tbh hers was announced similarly and people were thinking maybe it was a work at first but it ended up being legit. Just weird that the injury wasn't specified, it's gonna come out eventually.

Samoa Joe is not expected out of action for an extended period of time but there's no word yet as to when he'll be back. We are told the decision to strip him was not a creative one but what was stated, WWE medical made the call, so the decision was made to strip Joe and crown a new champion tonight, trying to turn a negative into a positive by having the coronation of the next WWE NXT Champion as part of the NXT 2.0 broadcast.

There is no word whether Joe will be at today's taping.
