Our extensive interview with Media Molecule – part one of which is to be published tomorrow (Thursday), with part two going live on Monday – covers a variety of subjects. When it came to the future of the LittleBigPlanet franchise on the PS3, they were decidedly unambiguous.

“I think what you’ve seen so far from LittleBigPlanet, that’s the way it’s going to continue.†said producer Martin Lynagh, referring to DLC and updates for the existing game.

Level designer Danny Leaver said that a sequel would fragment the LBP community. “We’d never want to do that. That’d be the most counterproductive thing you could do I think.†he said.

Media Molecule have given what is surely the most dedicated post – launch community support in the history of video games, and such dismissal of a sequel should serve to reassure fans still further.

I can respect this MM could easily make a sequel and make a lot of money but a sequel is not needed. They can't do anything new that can't be done in DLC. It's also a pretty wise decision considering some people probably wouldn't buy a sequel because they know it will be a cash in. Chances are it probably wouldn't sell as much as LittleBigPlanet. However I think adding motion controls and putting it in 3D would easily warrant another game. I know they are doing motion controls but I think it's going to be a patch or a re-release. With the PS4 they could then make a sequel but hopefully in the mean time they better be making a new IP. Chances are it will probably be PS3 exclusive due to their relationship with Sony but it could me multi-platform. It also wouldn't be a bad decision to make a Wii or DS game and feed off the casuals.

I never played it but I watched a friend play it for a few minutes and looked strangely addictive and entertaining.

I agree. there is really no need for a sequeal, but I do think the DLC needs to get better. Rather then just one level here or there based on Metal Gear or whatever....full new series of levels would be better.

As for multi-platform I'm almost positive that, its not possible to do so. I am almost positive Sony bought the LBP rights full out. I don't think it was strickly a publishing agreement, however I could be wrong....however if its not and new or ported versions came out for Wii and/or 360 that wouldn't be a bad thing strickly from a finiancial bottom line stand point.

It is, I actually played some more today for about an hour or so, I have beaten the main game but obviously still haven't collected everything. Today I played other user created levels. There were some pretty cool creations out there.
