I dont mean to be intentionally obtuse but is nxt developmental or not ? I dont understand the kayfabe reason of new day challenging for a belt so so far beneath them after not clinching the dual titles. Feels like a huge step down n just unecessary

The WWE PC is developmental. NXT is a 3rd brand that features a lot of the developmental talent, but the NXT roster is boueyed with WWE Superstars.

Last I checked Apollo Crews isn't developmental. Mandy Rose damn sure isn't. Finn Balor wasn't.

Right now New Day is between stories on Friday, so why not? With their accolades they're immediately deserving of the #1 Contendership, and Pretty Deadly will likely win, giving them their biggest win their careers. And if New Day wins, they get another championship on another brand, and they get to put over whoever beats them (Creeds probably) thus giving that team the biggest win of their careers.

It's a win-win.

Yes I understand certain stars are not developmental but it is generally marketed and presented as such and certainly branded as such for ratings. I'm asking the question because as an outsider this lacks consistency and identity and the stuff you brought is a perfect example. While it's one thing to have mid carders make appearances, presenting your show as mostly developmental when it suits you and a third brand at other times feels like trying to have your cake and eat it too. I'm not doubting the entertainment value and it's not a bad thing to have young ppl go against vets, but from a kayfabe POV its a hard buy for me to have straight up main eventers go down to current nxt (black and gold was branded as a 3rd brand when going up against AEW so i dont consider that and this version of nxt to be the same, either).

I also don't think it's beneficial for anyone's developmental to have a main roster midcarder hold a title for 500+ days. I don't agree it's treated or branded as third brand but sometimes it's booked liked one, hence my question of "is this developmental, or is a third brand, or are they trying to do both?". I think it's a valid question

Love the idea of New Day winning the titles at Deadline. My thought on it all is that it can't be a coincidence that they win the titles this weekend just days after news leaks that the next NXT PLE is going to go on the road. Short 2 month or so run down in NXT holding the titles, bringing name value to help sell tickets for the show then put over the next heel tag team (indus sher?) so they can go back to SmackDown ready for Mania season.

This could all be fluff and it's a one and done matchup which would be very weird, but we'll see what happens.

It use to happen a lot in FCW, OVW, DSW, etc. It gives them established stars to work with, which helps their development out. Pretty Deadly working with a tag team like New Day is going to do a lot for them, surely if they beat them. So it’s not for The New Day, it’s for Pretty Deadly. Like Ziggler going down wasn’t for him, it was to help Bron when he beat Ziggler one on one, and working with someone as talented as Ziggler.

I agree with all of this, and understand. I was more asking what the keyfabe reason is. Like with Ziggler I think even if I didnt like him winning the title, the story was logical because Zig hadnt been relevant on the main roster for quite a bit. With Balor he hadnt sniffed at a title either. here it feels a bit weird ig

I guess Kayfabe is because the Usos have such a strong hold on the tag titles, that they went down to NXT to get some. Only thing I can think of. That or maybe it counts as a tag team triple crown and they wanna have that. They have had Raw and Smackdown tag titles, so need NXT to finish the set.

yeah I guess from a kayfabe pov idk why youd care about the nxt titles but I digress. Im not trying to bring a negative spin on it either just trying to figure out what nxt actually is these days and where its going
