Recently I've noticed that a good number of people I know personally, who generally either have one favorite artist that their whole taste hinges around (Taylor Swift oftentimes) or who never really express any appreciation for music in general, are suddenly going crazy for Noah Kahan

Just random. I'm being a hater for sure. But it's a strange sort of phenomena. How do these particular artists cut through and gain traction specifically with people who don't really... like music for lack of a better description

To a lesser extent, I think the same sorta happened with Sleep Token

Music snobs turned hard on Sleep Token once Swifties and Disney adults and whatnot took so hard to them

I don't see the appeal of Sleep Token. I've listened to a couple of their songs and I didn't like them all that much.

Reasonably so. I like a few of their songs but the criticisms I've seen towards them are very valid. It is very sanitized, lifeless, safe kinda metal. Like... yeah, they're obviously going for the most mass appeal possible while still being metal.

Which then becomes annoying to jerks like me because you have "normies" listening to Sleep Token and leaning into the aesthetic of the subculture, meanwhile Sleep Token is literally the one singular metal band they'll listen to
