American English was also heavily changed by French, Spanish and Native Americans. But a lot of language, terms and spelling were simplified. But considering how many regional accent there are in the England alone, its hard to quantify that they are all only emerged post transatantic voyages

This is also true, although modern English was already heavily influenced by the Norman French invasion of 1066. The aristocracy all spoke French while peasants spoke English. Eventually French though seeped into English. It’s why we have two words for a lot of official titles and roles in government and finance. The French roots. As for modern English, of course not every dialect was as heavily influenced as others but Victorian era English speakers changed a lot the way the more common accents began to speak and sound.

In fact, it is estimated in all of English whether it be American or British, a little less than a third has a French origin.

There’s actually more French in English now than the original German it was based on.

I was watching a video about this yesterday and one of the examples used was that the English terms were deemed more vulgar such as the word "shit" lol

most people would say "latin" but it's only the latin that was also used by the French bc it mostly came from them not the Romans or anything prior

But yeah, so many dual sets of words were the French was considered more elegant or classy.

I think latin was still used as the main written language by both the French and the English for a bit after 1066 tho but from what I can tell it didn't really ever seep into verbal language, it was just for the elites to use like their secret code
