ECW 2006: Revolutionize the Internet

ECW To Revive in Weekly Online Live Stream
Shane McMahon & Paul Heyman Heading Revival

To Premiere June 13th, 2006

News has broken just after the confirmation of the return of ECW’s One Night Stand: WWE.com will begin streaming new live weekly content of the revolutionary revival of ECW.

Shane McMahon - Executive Vice President of Global Media and son of WWE Chairman Vince McMahon - is working alongside Paul Heyman - apart of the original Extreme Championship Wrestling and current Ohio Valley Wrestling booker - to bring back the rule-bending weekly wrestling series.

McMahon has been a big supporter in ECW since the original launch when he wanted to buy the company in 2000. Now, due to the overall success of last year’s One Night Stand, his dreams come true. Shane McMahon has said that contact was made with several former ECW stars to re-appear in this online only experience. He is on record that he wants to use relaunch as not only an alternative from Raw and Smackdown , but a way to introduce new talent through WWE’s development territory in a completely different setting.

Shane McMahon pinpointed major differences from what can be seen from ECW compared to Raw and Smackdown. Contracted referees are following looser rules meaning disqualifications and count outs are to their discretion. He also made it known that himself and Heyman are more than welcoming to the idea of Raw or Smackdown stars joining their show.

Paul Heyman - acting as representative - has been very vocal about a second chance to bring back the company.

Paul Heyman’s work as the Head of Ohio Valley Wrestling to produce the future stars for the company meaning we will see plenty of stars groomed by Heyman himself. Along with that, Deep South Wrestling - WWE’s second developmental territory - has sent some of their stars to Ohio with the possibility of Heyman bringing some guys from there to ECW.

With all of that, Paul Heyman has announced that he will be returning to television when ECW premieres on the 13th of June.

Welcome back brother! Great to see you back with a new project. You've chosen a really intriguing period. I'm a sucker for a good WWECW project. Right off the bat I love the concept of the online stream and love the "Revival" name. Plus, it's always fun to use Shane as the boss because you can throw him into any type of match and it works.

Really excited to see what you have cooked up. Best of luck writing!

Very nice simple twist on this WWECW by making it Internet streaming. This allows you so much more creative freedom to make it more ECW than third brand taped with SD. Both in terms of the style of the shows and roster, but also booking decisions too. Excited to see what the roster is and how this goes!!

Always excited to see a Rasky project pop up and WWECW is a fun one to tackle. Shane as the boss is interesting but glad to see Paul Heyman still involved as well as that is needed. Now sign and push Mike Awesome like he should've been after One Night Stand!

Echoing what others have said, it's great to have you back with another BTB. ECW 2006 is an awesome time period because you literally have a blank canvas with this online streaming approach. This could be anything. Excited to see what you've got in store for us, and of course, good luck.

I CANNOT wait for this to get started.

I don’t anyone has ever properly done a BTB on the ECW 2006 revival, so I’m intrigued as how you’ll book this.

In my view, the 2006 ECW revival is one of the top 3 biggest missed opportunities in WWE history, so this should be a fantastic read.

Preview of ECW One Night Stand 2006
From Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, New York

WWE Championship Match
Rob Van Dam challenges John Cena
Rob Van Dam is believed to be the catalyst of last year's One Night Stand event. Van Dam missed action from reconstructive knee surgery when he said that missing last year's One Night Stand was worse than missing Wrestlemania. That quote might just be the thing that pushed Van Dam to not only being at both events this year's, but being the main event of One Night Stand this year.

The Money in the Bank match brought Edge to stardom early last year when he won his first World Championship and earned his nickname "The Ultimate Opportunist". Rob Van Dam is using the Money in the Bank contract in a different way this year - to call his shot versus John Cena at the second One Night Stand Event. Van Dam spoke highly of John Cena and his work so far, but he wants the moment that he did not get last year.

Cena openly acknowledged Rob Van Dam as one of the most innovative and respected competitors, but promised that respect would not stop him from walking directly into hostile territory and leaving New York with the WWE Championship still around his waist.

John Cena has the pressure of defending not only the championship - but the entire WWE. Can Rob Van Dam re-write last year? Can John Cena stand out versus the hardcore ECW fans? Who can leave the Hammerstein Ballroom as WWE Champion?!

Wrestlemania Rematch
If Mick Foley Loses, He Will Quit
Mick Foley versus Edge

Wrestlemania 22 changed the careers and, dare we say, lives of both Mick Foley and Edge.

Mick Foley sat down with Joey Styles where he felt that night in Chicago reminded Mick Foley just who he is. Foley did a lot for the first time in a long time: bled his own blood, put his own body on the line, and he was able to inflict pain on a man he despises with no one stopping him. The only issue is Mick Foley did not win the match. He told Joey Styles to begin spreading the word that he would do anything to face Edge at One Night Stand.

Edge combated Foley's remarks saying that Wrestlemania was a time that can never be recreated. Edge has moved on from Mick Foley and the challenge was denied. Forwarding a few weeks, Mick Foley made his challenge known again through physical acts. Lita defeated Torrie Wilson when Mrs. Foley's Baby Boy entered through the crowd to choke out Lita with The Mandible Claw. Edge looked for Foley backstage only to be blindsided with a steel chair assault from the Long Island native.

Edge called out Mick Foley on The Cutting Edge the following week. Edge agreed to going one on one with The Hardcore Icon, but he wanted this to be the last time that the two ever met face to face. The Rated R Superstar promised history will repeat itself, and Mick Foley has promised something much more... He convinced Edge to do the match and if he cannot follow through with his words - Mick Foley will quit.

Submission Match
"The Wrestling Machine" Kurt Angle versus Randy Orton
Intensity. The one word that could describe Kurt Angle and ECW. Kurt Angle's loss at Wrestlemania - due to Randy Orton being pinned by Rey Mysterio - unleashed Angle into becoming the self-proclaimed Wrestling Machine. Angle harbored anger for losing his championship and to Orton for being the reason for that.

Randy Orton was victorious versus Funaki when Kurt Angle confronted The Legend Killer for this match at One Night Stand. Angle announced that his contract was bought by ECW, but he had one request from Shane McMahon: to finally punish the man who lost his World Heavyweight Championship. Orton shook the hand of Kurt Angle to make it official before RKO'ing the newest member of ECW.

Nine nights ago, Kurt Angle attacked Randy Orton during his entrance with an Ankle Lock for nearly three minutes. Angle released the hold promsing he would make Randy Orton tap out again in a Submission Match at One Night Stand. The repercussions of that assault also forbid Angle and Orton from being in the same arena until the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York.

Kurt Angle and Randy Orton signed the contract separately, and the papers have been notarized. The question is now: how much can one man sustain before they give up?

Singles Match
The Big Show versus Sabu
The press release of ECW's return included the phrase "intention to bring over some people from Raw and Smackdown" which caught the eye of The Big Show. The Big Show announced in a backstage segment that he would be leaving Monday Night Raw with the opportunity to remind people exactly who he is. The Big Show stated that he was not called The Giant nor The Big Show for no reason, and people are becoming too comfortable with thinking of the seven foot monster as just another guy.

Later that night, Shane McMahon chose to buy out The Big Show's contract to become an ECW Wrestler beginning at One Night Stand. Paul Heyman added in by putting The Big Show in a match for the event. Heyman heard Big Show's words loud and clear and echoed them while calling Show a threat in the highest regard. The Big Show however needs to realize that you must strike fear in the men of ECW through action; not by size. The new ECW signee has an opportunity to make his impact when he faces the fearless Sabu!

Tag Team Match
Tommy Dreamer & Terry Funk versus The Impact Players (Justin Credible & Lance Storm)
This tag team match is a match of opportunity one could say.

Tommy Dreamer was searching for the opportunity to team with Terry Funk one final time. Lance Storm wanted one more big win before officially hanging up his boots to help the next generation at The Storm Wrestling Academy. Justin Credible wanted his opportunity to wrestle on this year's One Night Stand event. It would be too easy for this match to be built on respect though.

Footage from OVW TV showed Tommy Dreamer's win against developmental talent Brent Albright. Tommy Dreamer announced to the Kentucky crowd his plans to team with Terry Funk at One Night Stand, and he was asking for Funk to return his calls. Forwarding two weeks, Dreamer defeated Al Snow in action when he gave Funk another call to action. He was interrupted by Justin Credible, with Singapore Cane in hand, as well as the ever serious Lance Storm. The men gave their reasonings for wanting this match, but sometimes words are not enough. Storm locked Dreamer tightly into the Canadian Crab allowing Credible to Curbstomp his former rival into the mat.

As the footage made it's rounds: the world finally heard from Terry Funk via a video sent to wwe.com. Terry Funk announced he was going to be at New York, with Tommy Dreamer, to beat The Impact Players asses!

Singles Match
Mike Awesome versus Masato Tanaka II
All it took was three words.

"One. More. Time." - Masato Tanaka
"Nothing. Will. Change." - Mike Awesome

Masato Tanaka wants to avenge his loss in the brutal encounter with Mike Awesome one year ago. The acceptance came with some disrespect - a promise that Awesome will walk away as the winner once more. Mike Awesome and Masato Tanaka II is sure to steal the show at One Night Stand.

Great starting card. There are a lot of different ways you can book the RVD/Cena match, so I'm looking forward to seeing that pan out. Edge and Foley sounds intriguing. I'm hoping Edge wins, Mick Foley may have to quit, but CACTUS JACK doesn't have to quit and joins up with ECW.

Awesome/Tanaka II should be insane. Hoping you keep both around for the beginning of the project. Curious to see who the biggest name in pro wrestling is. Hopefully it's Vince and Heyman shoots from the hip on him. Punk debuting is fun, as is The Impact Players re-uniting.

Off to a great start with this preview, much better than what we got in real life already. I'll definitely be keeping tabs on this. Best of luck writing!

RVD/Cena was just one of those iconic moments in time, so I'm intrigued to see your version of events here. I would love if you just flipped things completely, had Cena win, and this show ends with the iconic moment of the entire ECW crowd rioting and bombarding the ring. I'm admittedly not that huge on the Foley/Edge stuff here. There's only so many times we as an audience can be threatened with a Foley quit/retirement spot lol. Angle surely has to beat Orton to put over the more intense, ECW version of his gimmick. Logically, it doesn't really make sense, but since I'm backing Cena, we need an ECW guy to beat a WWE guy, so Sabu will somehow beat The Big Show.

Dreamer and Funk versus The Impact Players should be fun, and Awesome/Tanaka will be too. I'd love an Awesome push in here to be honest. Card is strong, looking forward to the show mate.
