WWF World Champion: Randy Savage-27/3/88
WWF Intercontinental Champion: The Ultimate Warrior-29/8/88
WWF Tag Team Champions: Demolition-27/3/88

WWF Wrestling Challenge
December 25th, 1988
Tampa, FL

Match#1 The Ultimate Warrior vs John Latu

Heenan talks about bodies and the power of posing that Rude possesses, and it's maybe the most Vince coded bullshit we've encountered thus far. Warrior spends two minutes trying to kill the kid as he throws him around on his head into the mat and ropes, and just belts the braincells out of him. I am falling in love with Warrior killing people for real, i must admit. He wins with the Combo in the best squash he has to date.
**

WWF Update-
-Lord Hayes speaks about the luck of the draw in the Rumble.
-He runs down the lineup again.

Match#2 Greg Valentine & Honky Tonk Man w/Jimmy Hart vs George South & Jose Luis Rivera
More bad stuff as HTM drags poor Greg down into the mud and muck and stinks it up. Greg gets to do a little bit, but nowhere near as much as he should be doing. He at least wins with the Figure Four, but it's too late.
1/2*

WWF Events Center-
-Hammer doesn't care what number he gets as he's been here for a long time and he's always been a winner, and this will be no different.
-The Rockers cut a really bad promo talking about the levels of pain and difficulty in this, and how they're going to go after the Busters when they get a chance. Marty then shouts that one of them will win.

Match#3 Jake Roberts vs Rusty Brooks
As it has been for the last 9 months since the Rude feud started, Jake gives us a perfectly fine but nothing to write home about squash for 2 minutes. Love Jake a lot, but gosh has this been a really terrible year for him. Jake wins with the DDT.
*

Post match, Damien comes out to play.

Match#4 Dino Bravo w/Frechy Martin vs Mario Mancini
Dino does Dino things and has not improved in any way, and it's quite amazing. Reminds me of Jinder in 2017 when everyone was wondering if he would become good and it never happened, and that's Dino as well. He wins with his Sidewalk Slam.
1/2*

WWF Events Center-
-Randy talks about the threats in this from Andre to News given what they've said and done, and he will SLAP them down if he gets the chance. No one can stop him as he's the champion and it doesn't matter who it is. He's coming with the madness.

Match#5 Demolition vs Rusty Riddle & Daniel Brazil
Gorilla reads the entire list down and nearly passes out, and it's another moment where i'm reminded why i can't stand him for the most part. However, we love Demo as they smash and bash some jobbers as the turn has made them even more insane and brutal, and it's fucking sick. They take a head off to win.
**

Stage Interview
-Mr Perfect says what you see is what you get and that's Perfect. Gene runs down all the sports he's perfect at, and Perfect moves on to the ring where he says he's most alive and takes care of it all as he was born with a sign of perfection that follows him everywhere he goes. He wonders how all these ugly people can go through life looking the way they do when he's perfect.
-He's been looking forward to this as this will be perfect, and everyone will learn why he's Perfect.

Match#6 The Rockers vs Jose Estrada & Mike Sharpe
Hell yeah, one more great one to close the year out as the boys get 3 minutes and kill it with a million mile an hour squash that leaves you with a smile on your face. Marty gets his ass kicked a little so we see some great selling, and then Shawn gets in and lights them up like a proper madman. They win with the Crossbody/Suplex
**

Match#7 The Big Boss Man w/Slick vs David Heath
Boss Man kicks the hell out of baby Gangrel for 90 seconds, and i imagine that time and match will happen again in 99. Boss wins with the Slam.
*

Post match, he cuffs and beats him up.

WWF MSG-30/12

Greg Valentine vs Ron Garvin (30/12)
Good God, man. Garvin meets Hammer at every turn and goes hold for hold, so Hammer goes for the arm with elbows to the elbow and tries to break it like a complete monster. Hammer rams his shoulder into it as well, so Garvin fires back with gunshot loud chops to the chest, and Hammer tries to not let it go, but the shots are too hard and he's got no choice. THEY HAVE A CHOP WAR AND IT'S SO LOUD AND INSANE, AND GARVIN KNOCKS HIM DOWN AND SENDS HIM TO THE FLOOR. He backs him into the corner when he gets in, but Hammer shoots off a punch to the forehead to splatter his brains and goes to war with chops to the face and throat, BUT RONNIE FIGHTS BACK AND CHOPS AND PUNCHES HIM OVER AND OVER UNTIL HE SENDS HIM DOWN, BUT HE STOPS HIM FROM FALLING AND LOCKS IN A SLEEPER. He then lets it go to chop him in the fucking back and the back of the head. Hammer won't die as he's not human, and he fights back and gets control with a shoulder breaker to the bad arm and goes back to work on it, but he also chops him more and more in between because they're both insane. HAMMER KNOCKS HIM OUT WITH A RUNNING FOREARM TO THE SKULL AND BEATS HIM EVEN WORSE, WHAT THE FUCK MAN. Garvin again comes back and beats him up in maybe the most crazy back and forth in the WWF since Sarge and Pat. Hammer gets it back and now crushes Ronnie's neck and throat with his knees because fuck it, and we get some amazing selling from Ronnie. Garvin somehow grabs the shinguard and pulls it off, but the ref tries to pull it away and Hammer sneaks up and rolls him up with the rights to win.
***1/2

WE AREN'T DONE AS RONNIE HITS HAMMER ACROSS THE FACE WITH IT AND SENDS HIM RUNNING.

Randy Savage (c) w/ Miss Elizabeth vs. Bad News Brown (WWF World Heavyweight Championship-Ghetto Fight)
RANDY RUNS IN AND ATTACKS WITH THE BELT AND BEATS THIS SACK OF SHIT UP ON THE OUTSIDE AND BREAKS OUT THE AXE HANDLE TO THE HEAD, BUT NEWS CRACKS HIM WITH A LOOPING LARIAT TO THE FACE TO STOP HIM. He tosses him to the floor and targets the back with forearms and clubs, and Randy's selling is fantastic as no one in the company can make you truly believe he's got broken ribs like Randy. News keeps on him with shots to the body and face, and it's the best and most focused work he's given us thus far. News pulls him out to the floor again and throws him over a rail to the concrete, and he goes after Liz for the hell of it, but the ref stops him. Randy comes back to life and knees him into the post to hurt his shoulder and fights through the dirt once more. HE DUCKS THE BLASTER AND BACKDROPS HIM TO THE FLOOR AND HITS A TOPE TO SEND HIM INTO THE RAILS AND THEN BACKDROPS HIM ONTO THE CONCRETE FLOOR. HE'S NOT DONE AS HE HITS ANOTHER AX HANDLE. They fight back in where News gets back into the fight and we move into a sweet back and forth. Randy misses the elbow and looks to be dead, but he reverses a slam into a cradle to pull the win out of his ass.
***

Randy celebrates with Liz, but News comes back and hits him with a trash can to the head. Randy once again comes back and knocks him down and holds the ring to close the year.

The feud that carried the company into a brand new era of Madness and Money. Nothing but incredible matches and promos from start to finish.

1988 WWF TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR

Easily the best year of tag wrestling we've gotten with the influx of teams to bring new life to it, along with old teams stepping up in the face of the challenge to be the best. One team was above all else and demolished the competition and made sure it wasn't even close in the end.

1988 WWF WRESTLER OF THE YEAR

Now this was a super close race between a few you'd expect but also a few who nearly pulled a massive (but well deserved) upset had it happened. The winner is someone who not only stepped up his game in TV matches, but took his house show and PPV matches to some of the best the company had seen. This is a man who couldn't buy a title or a major win when it truly mattered, but he has shown that everyone has price. HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAA
