BTB of the Month: WWF- 1991 and Beyond

January 1, 1991

As the calendar flips to 1991, some inside the WWF would say the product has begun to get stale. Ticket sales are declining as well as merchandise sales. Long gone are the golden days of the 80’s where everyone was making money hand over fist. Hulk Hogan is still a top draw but doesn’t have the drawing power he once had. The Ultimate Warrior experiment has essentially flopped. The question remains-has the product really gotten stale? Or is the cyclical wrestling business just headed for the inevitable down period? Vince McMahon doesn’t want to wait for the answer. He grows impatient with each passing day.

We can trace Vince’s impatient manner back to just one short week ago. WWF was running their biggest house show of the year-the day after Christmas at Madison Square Garden. Well known to flip a quick profit, Vince was banking on this show to deliver both inside the ring and at the gate. Instead, it flopped, bringing in the lowest gate at Madison Square Garden ever. Who was to blame? Instead of pointing fingers, Vince decided to call an emergency meeting with both staff and superstars.

At this meeting Vince didn’t raise his voice once. He was calm and cool as he went over each bullet point he, Pat Patterson and Bruce Prichard thought out over the course of the long week following the dreaded MSG house show. The response from the meeting was an overly positive one, from all included. Vince has promised a new and different WWF moving forward in 1991, and all we can do is sit back and watch with excitement.

BT NOTE: Decided to dust this thing off. Some may remember this project from the WC days. This project holds a special place in my heart, as it spanned over four calendar years from 2018-22. I booked it so long and got bored, I eventually created an Indy spinoff with the majority of the undercard I built up from this project.

I figured I’d stop fighting the urge to book early 90’s WWF and just start this from the beginning. Most of the ideas and stories will stay the same, but after looking over this entire project (Royal Rumble 91-Survivor Series 93) over the last month, some of my booking was originally very suspect. Consider this a tuned-up version with better looking graphics than my last run. This will be written in the same style as TNA- not fully detailed yet enough words to digest before scrolling through. Hope you all enjoy this blast from the BTB past!!​

Things are heating up inside the land of Titan Sports as the calendar flips over to 1991! We are officially on The Road to the Royal Rumble, which is filled with twists and turns, pursuit and preparation, and above everything else, an opportunity to cement immortal status at WRESTLEMANIA 7!!

In a GROUNDBREAKING ANNOUNCEMENT, WWF President Jack Tunney declared that the winner of this year’s Royal Rumble WILL GO ON TO FACE THE WWF WORLD CHAMPION AT WRESTLEMANIA 7!! With this year’s field completely stacked with talent that is hungry for gold, the Royal Rumble Match promises to deliver as being a grand spectacle!!

After announcing all 30 participants, let’s take a look at a handful who have the most momentum heading into the Royal Rumble Match!

Hulk Hogan- Hulk Hogan is one-hundred percent healthy- something that should scare the entire field! Following a tumultuous 1990 which featured Hogan losing the WWF World title, and getting flattened by Earthquake, Hogan has had time to heal the wounds, and re-charge his battery heading into 1991!

At this current time, Hogan is not involved in any feuds, and is hoping that clean slate allows him to win the Royal Rumble! Hogan has the fans behind him, his 24-inch pythons humming at full strength, and his name at the top of the list of favorites to win the Royal Rumble!

Ted Dibiase- Ted Dibiase is always a name that is on a short-list of possible favorites, solely due to the fact that he is calculated, and knows what it takes to survive! Dibiase is currently embroiled in a feud with DUSTY RHODES-another superstar looking for Royal Rumble glory. At the forefront of the feud is Ted Dibaise’s long-time valet- VIRGIL!

While Dibiase has continued to treat Virgil like a pile of dirt, Dusty Rhodes has been luring Virgil away from Dibiase, showing him what an independent run void of Dibiase in the WWF would look like. For now, Virgil is still at Dibiase’s side, but the cracks in the foundation are starting to surface, and this is a spot to look for during the Royal Rumble Match! Dibiase is perfectly capable of winning the entire match, but will the unknown variables of meeting up with his arch-nemesis Dusty Rhodes during the match cost “The Million Dollar Man”?

Earthquake- The 6-foot-7 400 plus pound Earthquake is one of the odds-on favorites to win the Royal Rumble Match! After busting onto the scene in 1990, Earthquake sent shockwaves through the WWF after his brutal attack on Hulk Hogan! The big man is looking to start 1991 off with a bang as he attempts to punch his ticket to Wrestlemania!

The obvious observation is that not many people can lift a 400 pound man over the top rope, which is something Earthquake will look to capitalize on during the match. The Royal Rumble Match is tailor-made for Earthquake, who could easily come out victorious!

The Undertaker- There is still much unknown about The Undertaker, who made his debut just two short months ago. The near 7 foot tall walking hellraiser has decimated every opponent that has crossed his path thus far in the WWF! Coupled with Brother Love by his side, The Undertaker is seemingly unstoppable at the moment!

What The Undertaker lacks in experience, he makes up for inside the ring. This man mauls opponents with his massive hands, and can even fly through the air if need be. The Undertaker is seen as an extreme threat in the Royal Rumble Match, and will look to step up on the biggest stage of his WWF career thus far, outlasting 29 other men!!

“MACHO KING” RANDY SAVAGE is currently at a crossroads in his WWF tenure. He can either continue down the dark path he is on and hope to re-gain the momentum he once held, or he can realize that being a “king” isn’t all that it’s hyped up to be….

Over the 1990 Christmas season, it was officially announced that WWF CHAMPION ULTIMATE WARRIOR would put his title on the line at the Royal Rumble against Randy Savage! With the match made official, instead of feeling joy about the opportunity, Savage felt the pressure mounting even higher than before. He knows this could be the last chance he gets at immortality!

Randy Savage is not the only person who knows he needs to walk out of the Royal Rumble with the WWF World title around his waist, as his valet QUEEN SHERRI is also feeling a heavy sense of urgency. This urgency led to Queen Sherri proposing an ultimatum to Macho King on an episode of Superstars in early January!

It started when Queen Sherri demanded the mic from Mean Gene Okerlund. She then laid out her terms for the Macho King- defeat Ultimate Warrior and win the World title at the Royal Rumble, or she would leave him! Sherri then rolled off a list of superstars she will leave Savage for, including Ted Dibiase, The Undertaker, and even JAKE ROBERTS!

Known to be the jealous type, Randy Savage didn’t take the news well. Just the thought of Queen Sherri leaving him for somebody else unlocked a side of him not seen in quite some time! He took the remaining weeks leading up to the Royal Rumble to let his anger out on local talent, before everything came to blows on the last episode of Superstars before the Royal Rumble!

While Ultimate Warrior cut an intense promo in which he summoned the Gods of space amongst other science-fictional lure, he turned around…

WHERE MACHO KING WAS WAITING WITH HIS SCEPTER…

AND DRILLED ULTIMATE WARRIOR BETWEEN THE EYES, SHATTERING THE SCEPTER INTO A MILLION PIECES!!!

Savage wasn’t done as he pounced on top of the WWF Champion, hammering away with rights and lefts, leaving Warrior down and out, blood pouring from his forehead mixing in with his face-paint, leaving that as the last visual we see of Ultimate Warrior before the Royal Rumble!!

A host of WWF Officials busted onto the scene to break up the melee, but the damage was done, and Macho King made his point to not only Ultimate Warrior, but to Queen Sherri.

Was this all part of Queen Sherri’s plan? To rile up Savage and light a fire underneath him as her quest for Championship gold reaches its climax?

We will find out at the Royal Rumble, when Ultimate Warrior puts his title on the line against “Macho King” Randy Savage!!

JAKE ROBERTS has kicked of 1991 in a way that nobody could have predicted! The fun-loving fan-favorite has traded his cheers for the emptiness of his hollow soul…Let’s see what led Roberts down this dastardly dark path…

At the time, we didn’t know it- but back in September of 1990, one pump of a bottle of cologne changed the course of Jake Roberts’ WWF career! Following being blinded by “The Model” Rick Martel and his bottle of “Arrogance” Jake Roberts took time to recover following a scare with temporary blinding!

We didn’t see Roberts for nearly three months, as he was supposed to show up at Survivor Series and lead a team against Rick Martel before not being medically cleared. It wasn’t until early January when we finally laid eyes on Jake Roberts again, and we were right back where it all started- on The Brother Love Show!!

-THE BROTHER LOVE SHOW WITH JAKE ROBERTS-
January 5, 1991

After Brother Love kicked off his show by doing his old song and dance routine, replaying the horrific attack by Rick Martel on Jake Roberts, he welcomed “Brother Roberts” back to the WWF! The WWF crowd let out a THUNDEROUS ovation for Roberts, who slowly walked onto the set, stoically looking out into the vast sea of fans. His theme music blaring was a sound of rejoice for the WWF that hadn’t set eyes on Jake for months! With his hands on his hips, Roberts took in Brother Love’s words before snatching the mic from him. The crowd responded with cheers; however, those cheers wouldn’t last very long…

“They say you can tell a lot about a man’s character when he is faced with his toughest battles. For three long months I sat back at my house…Couldn’t see across the room…same routine, day-in and day-out. Every day I went to the mailbox, waiting to see envelopes of fan mail, just like Hulk Hogan got in the summer. Get well soon cards, fan art…Instead, all I took out of the mailbox was a heaping pile of past-due bills!!"

Roberts shakes his head in disgust as he continues…

“And not once did anybody call me, wish me well, check in on me. I was all alone…with my thoughts…and nothing else. And that’s when I did some soul searching and thought to myself, maybe you’re not cut out to be the hero, Jake! Maybe you’re not the fan-favorite you thought you were. You’re not Hulk Hogan! These people don’t care about you! The darkness I felt in my eyes was nothing compared to the darkness I felt in my soul…”

Brother Love begins to sense Jake Roberts is NOT here to go after Martel, but he is here for something deeper…

“Rick Martel, I owe it all to you, my man. By closing my eyes, you opened my soul, and by opening my soul, I’ve found the dimly lit light inside…and I now know that the dark side is all I need! I don’t need Hulk Hogan or Ultimate Warrior to have my back…I don’t need the support of the fans willing me to victory…no…All I need is myself….and the darkness I bring with me!”

The crowd begins to boo as Jake Roberts grows angrier with each passing word, all while Brother Love looks on in amusement at the shocking turn…

“Go ahead and boo all you want, but that doesn’t change the fact THAT JAKE ROBERTS DOESN’T WANT YOUR APPROVAL! See, I am entering the Royal Rumble. Nobody can stop me. It doesn’t matter if I draw number 1 or 30, the outcome will still be the same! Mark my words…I plan on leaving as the winner. And when I do, whether it be Randy Savage or Ultimate Warrior at Wrestlemania, I plan on showing the world what the dark side is all about, as I capture the richest prize in the world, and take you all down the dark path!”

Jake Roberts soaks in the boos from the crowd as a devilish grin forms across his face…

“Brother Love!”

Roberts grabs Brother Love by the shirt collar and forcefully squeezes him tight…

“Do ya trust me?”

Brother Love begins to squirm…

“I trust you Brother Roberts! I trust you with all of my being! I CAN SEE THE DARK SIDE! I CAN FEEL THE DARKNESS, BROTHER ROBERTS!”

Jake Roberts lets go of Brother Love as he nods his head, satisfied with Brother Love’s reaction. Roberts then looks out into the crowd that was on their feet, cheering for him just mere minutes ago, now booing him unmercifully! Roberts waves his hands in disgust at the crowd as he begins to head off the set…

It is clearly evident that being at home for three months changed Jake Roberts’ demeanor. He heads into the Royal Rumble a changed man, a broken soul, a man so unhinged that he just might be the odds-on favorite to win the whole thing!

Jake Roberts turned his back on the fans, and everybody that helped him grow along the way. He is all alone, and is as dangerous as ever!

Ever since MR. PERFECT re-captured the WWF Intercontinental Championship back in November, he has been full speed ahead, showcasing to the world his athleticism and as he simply puts it- his “perfection.”

Mr. Perfect found himself in the midst of a budding feud against THE BIG BOSS MAN at the end of 1990 as Boss Man looked to climb up the rankings and win Intercontinental gold! Boss Man wouldn’t go unscathed through his title feud with Mr. Perfect, as BOBBY HEENAN would insert himself into the midst of Mr. Perfect-his client- and trade barbs with Big Boss Man about Boss Man’s mama!

Things came to a head in early January when Heenan was forced to square off against Big Boss Man! With a prize of the winner of Heenan/Boss Man picking a stipulation for Mr. Perfect versus Big Boss Man at the Royal Rumble, Heenan was placed in a tough spot! The match, as expected, went in favor of Big Boss Man, but the justice served on Heenan was nothing more than that- his problems with Mr. Perfect were still thick, as after the match was won, Mr. Perfect came out and BLASTED BIG BOSS MAN WITH HIS INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE!!

From there, Mr. Perfect and Boss Man were full throttle ahead when the official match was signed at The Royal Rumble- with Big Boss Man’s stipulation seeing Bobby Heenan LOCKED INSIDE A SHARK CAGE at ringside!! Boss Man stated that Heenan needed to serve some HARD TIMES BEHIND BARS!

While the stipulation adds intrigue to the match, it certainly favors Boss Man! Mr. Perfect, known to never refuse a helping hand from his manager, will have to go at this one alone at the Royal Rumble, as he faces his toughest test to date in The Big Boss Man!!

Reigning WWF Tag Team Champions THE HART FOUNDATION find themselves in a tough spot, as the formidable duo of the new and improved DEMOLITION are knocking on the door! Now equipped with Smash and Crush, Demolition looks stronger than ever as they spent the month of December destroying every tag team that crossed their path!!

Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart know they need to bring their “A” game to the Royal Rumble if they want to walk out with the titles still in-tact. Smash and Crush are currently peaking, and a title win would cement them as the top team in early 1991. Waiting in the wings is the ever-dangerous LEGION OF DOOM, who have a history with Demolition dating back to Summerslam 1990!

Also on the card, THE ROCKERS look to carve out space in the crowded Tag Team Division when they take on POWER & GLORY! Comprised of Hercules and Paul Roma, Power & Glory already have a PPV win over The Rockers at Summerslam 1990! The Rockers are out to prove that the last encounter was a fluke, and they plan to kick off 1991 with a bang as they continue their quest for tag team gold!!

Such an inspired jumping off point that looks rife with opportunity to be creative and totally switch things up. A minor complaint from me is that I cant see any of the images (content not viewable on my area) but thats more a me issue than anything.

©Ultimate Warrior vs. “Macho King” Randy Savage w/Queen Sherri - i think you can be wacky and have more fun with Warrior but I could never get behind him whereas I love Randy Savage and this Iteration of his gimmick is probably tied as my favourite version of him. So im going with my heart. Also, Sherri without Savage? Boooo! Surely not!

©Mr. Perfect vs. Big Boss Man - the greatest man to never win a world title, Mr Perfect how I adore that man. Big perfect push plz. I can see a world where Bossman gets built up as a legit heel threat for the main event scene, so im going with a Bossman victory via dq or countout or whatever so the title doesn't change hands. Feuds can never end at the rumble after all!

©The Hart Foundation vs. Demolition (Smash & Crush) - never cared for demolition and this program ran in '90 so hopefully a title defence and then LOD vs Demolition can be the next program but not for the belt. Demolition been on a tear leading into this, so maybe an unclean victory with an Owen debut (without the mask).

The Rockers vs. Power & Glory
- could pull a fast one and break up the Rockers a year early, but as someone that loves a super strong tag division I hope thats not the case. Besides, they need the title win they never got a few months earlier.

Beyond excited to be able to read through all of this again. Probably the longest running, most successful retro WWF BTB I've ever read. I probably won't leave predictions unless you tell me you're majorly changing stuff, because that hardly seems fair... I bet I know who wins the Rumble...

It's a good Rumble card to start with though, and even outside of the 30 man match, the Warrior/Savage match should be interesting given Savage's inner turmoil.

Also, I know it's just the beginning but the Roberts promo was really well written. Reading it back, just feels so ominous. Great writing.

Can't wait for the Rumble, sir.

The WWF logo pops up across our screens as the Titan grandeur is on full display! We then transition over to outside of the Miami Arena where thousands of rabid fans are shown lining up to get into the Royal Rumble! A few fans stop to show their support for our troops overseas while others make predictions about tonight’s winners…

The camera pans inside the Miami Arena as we get a sky shot of a SOLD OUT building, followed by Vince McMahon’s infamous gravely voice getting us pumped up…

“IT’S TIME TO RUMBLE…IT’S TIME FOR THE ROYALLL RUMMBLLEEEE!”

Down at ringside, we are greeted by our commentary team of Gorilla Monsoon and Roddy Piper!! The two welcome us to the Royal Rumble, before running down tonight’s card!!

We stick around ringside for our opening contest, a HUGE Tag Team Showdown between The Rockers and Power & Glory!!!

Match 1- Tag Team Showcase
The Rockers vs. Power & Glory

Michaels and Jannetty jump the gun right as the bell rings, delivering STEREO DROPKICKS TO HERCULES AND PAUL ROMA!!!

Hercules and Roma fall to the outside as The Rockers play into the 16,000 screaming fans on their feet…and they’re on their feet for good reason…

AS MICHAELS AND JANNETTY BOTH SLINGSHOT OVER THE ROPES AND LAND ON HERCULES, ROMA AND SLICK ON THE RINGSIDE FLOOR!!!

The Rockers are on absolute fire here in the early going, as Piper and Monsoon hype them up on commentary!

Eventually, the match settles in as Jannetty and Roma square off in the ring. Roma gains the upper hand after Jannetty goes for a cross body but Roma catches him and drops him with a BACKBREAKER!!

Roma tags in Hercules as Power and Glory begin to cut the ring in half! Hercules works over Jannetty with the dreaded Abdominal Stretch! Jannetty tries to power out of it but Hercules is just too massive and ends up connecting with a HUGE BODYSLAM TO JANNETTY!!

Hercules follows that up with a chin lock, as he applies pressure to Jannetty’s neck while Marty fights to stay awake!!

Michaels stomps on the apron as he begins to get the crowd behind The Rockers!!

Jannetty begins to fire elbow shots to Hercules, and then eventually gets out of his grasp…

AND MAKES THE HOT TAG TO SHAWN MICHAELS!!!

Michaels is a ball of fire as he connects with a dropkick on Hercules, followed by a running bulldog!!

Paul Roma reaches out and is within vicinity of Hercules and makes the blind tag…but Michaels is waiting as he drops Roma with a SUPERKICK!!!

Roma is down and out as Michaels tags back in Marty, and the crowd knows what is next!!

Marty and Shawn head to opposite corners of the ring, waiting for Roma to stumble to his feet…

DOUBLE TOP ROPE MISSILE DROPKICKS TO PAUL ROMA!!!

The crowd is in awe of the athleticism of The Rockers, who aren’t finished yet!!!

Michaels hoists Roma up in the suplex position while Jannetty ascends back to the top turnbuckle…

MICHAELS CONNECTS WITH A SUPLEX…WHILE JANNETTY FLIES THROUGH THE AIR WITH A CROSS BODY ONTO PAUL ROMA!!!

THE ROCKER PLEX!!!!

Jannetty hooks the leg as Michaels stands guard…

1….2….3!!!

Winners at 7:00- The Rockers

The Rockers celebrate as the crowd shows them love!! Michaels and Jannetty embrace before signaling for the Tag Team titles around their waists!! Piper and Monsoon continue to hype The Rockers up, saying they have a very bright future ahead of them!!!

We head to the back, inside the heel locker room, where SEAN MOONEY is standing by with the reigning Intercontinental Champion, MR. PERFECT and his trusty sidekick BOBBY HEENAN!! Both men are NOT pleased with Heenan having to be locked in a shark cage in just a few moments, and Mr. Perfect airs his grievances to the world…

“Big Boss Man, let’s get one thing straight. Regardless if you and Jack Tunney want to stack the odds against me tonight, Bobby has nothing to do with the beef between you and I! And if for one second you think that this stipulation gives you an advantage, you better guess again!”

Perfect begins to lose the harsh tone as he and Heenan share a quick smirk…

“Because the minute that bell rings, Boss Man, you’re stuck in your own cage. The cage in between those ropes…the PERFECT CAGE! See, you aren’t the athlete I am, and you damn sure aren’t the wrestler that I am! And when it’s all said and done, and I leave with my title around my waist and my arms held high, then you’ll know the one thing that separates us…is that I…am SIMPLY PERFECT…and you, my friend, are not!”

Heenan slaps Perfect across the back as Sean Mooney sends it back down to ringside…

Back at ringside, Piper and Monsoon begin to hype up our next matchup, the HUGE Intercontinental Championship bout!!

Match 2- Intercontinental Championship- Bobby Heenan locked inside a Shark Cage

Bobby Heenan is reluctant to head into the cage, but eventually doesn't have much of a choice as Referee Earl Hebner forcefully tosses him inside, as Earl and the rabid crowd thoroughly enjoys seeing Heenan locked inside a cage!!

The bell rings and this one is on! Boss Man starts off hot with a barrage of offense, connecting with clotheslines followed by a HUGE BACK BODY DROP to Mr. Perfect!!

Perfect rolls outside of the ring, calls for a “timeout” and then realizes his buddy Bobby Heenan isn’t there to give him a pep talk! Heenan shouts from the cage as he tries to shake it free, but to no avail!

Boss Man isn’t playing around tonight, as he smells Championship gold! He sprints around the outside of the ring after Mr. Perfect, who darts back inside the ring, thinking he got away…only for Boss Man to slide back in and connect with a HUGE LARIAT!!

The move upends Perfect as Boss Man zeroes in on the champ. Perfect works his way out of a chin lock with elbows to the gut of Boss Man. Perfect bounces off the ropes as Boss Man looks for another back body drop, but there is a reason they call him simply perfect as Mr. Perfect reads it perfectly and connects with a HIGH KNEE TO BOSS MAN!!

The big man is wobbly on the ropes as Perfect races off the ropes and goes for a clothesline but this time Boss Man is ready….

Perfect going back-first into the shark cage door makes a sickening thud as the crowd eats it up while Perfect holds his back in pain!!

Boss Man slides Mr. Perfect back inside the ring as the camera pans back to Heenan, who shakes the cage door once more, and then subtly realizes THAT BOSS MAN TOSSING PERFECT INTO THE DOOR BROKE IT OFF ITS HINGES!!!

Heenan and Perfect lock eyes as Mr. Perfect now knows the plan! Heenan plays dumb for the time being as Boss Man looks to put Mr. Perfect away!!

Boss Man tosses Perfect off the ropes, while Heenan slowly slips out of the cage door and hides underneath the ring, out of Hebner’s sight!

Perfect comes off the ropes and slides underneath Boss Man, right above Heenan!

MR. PERFECT ROLLS UP BIG BOSS MAN….WHILE BOBBY HEENAN REACHES UP AND HOLDS PERFECT’S FEET BACK FOR LEVERAGE….EARL HEBNER IS OUT OF POSITION AND DOESN’T SEE BOBBY HEENAN ASSISTING MR. PERFECT!!!

Heenan army-crawls back to his cage and makes pretend nothing ever happened as Mr. Perfect is awarded his IC title!! Perfect celebrates with the title on the top rope, as Boss Man lies distraught inside the ring, wondering how Mr. Perfect became so powerful on the pinfall attempt!!

Mr. Perfect demands Earl Heber open up the cage as Heenan breaks free! He embraces with Mr. Perfect as if he wasn’t involved in the finish, while Piper and Monsoon play it up on commentary and are IRATE about Heenan and Mr. Perfect pulling a fast one!!

Nevertheless, Mr. Perfect is STILL your IC Champion, and looks to add another notch in his belt tonight as he enters the Royal Rumble Match later on this evening!!

We switch gears as we get ready for our huge TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP! Before we get any further, we send it over to Mean Gene!!

“Ladies and gentlemen, it is my privilege to introduce you to Hawk and Animal, The Legion of Doom!

The WWF crowd gives LOD a THUNDEROUS ovation as they make their way over to the side stage, while shouting and holding their arms high in the air…

Gene begins to speak…

“Animal, Hawk, I’m conducting this interview right now because I’m told you have some news to share with us all…”

Hawk and Animal look out into the cheering crowd and nod their heads before Animal begins to speak…

“Since we arrived to the WWF, everybody has quickly figured out that we snack on danger and dine on death! Earlier on in the week, we got summoned to Jack Tunney’s office, thinking we were about to pay a hefty fine for breaking somebody’s limbs…instead, we were pleasantly surprised by the news we received…We are out here tonight to let The Hart Foundation, Demolition and everybody else know one thing. Whichever of you wins tonight, you’ll have the honors of facing THE LEGION OF DOOM…AT WRESTLEMANIA 7!! TELL EM HAWK…”

The crowd pops at the announcement…

“WEELLLL! Whether it be the Harts, or Demolition…one thing is crystal clear to me…tonight one of you will win the battle, but the war will be at Wrestlemania 7…and we are prepared for war! OOOHHHH WHAT A RUSHHH!!!”

LOD pose one last time on the side stage as Piper and Monsoon hype up the HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT that whoever wins the Tag Team Championship match tonight will go on to face The Legion of Doom at Wrestlemania 7!!!

We head over to Sean Mooney who is standing by with the reigning WWF Tag Team Champions, The Hart Foundation! Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart are locked in and ready to rock as Mooney asks them their thoughts on potentially facing LOD at Wrestlemania 7…

“We have all the respect in the world for Animal and Hawk, but tonight our sole focus is on Smash and Crush! See, the fact of the matter is…everybody is looking to climb up the Tag rankings, but everybody keeps forgetting WE are at the top of the mountain, and Jim and I are at the top of our game right now!”

Neidhart strokes his goatee as he pats Bret Hart on the back…

“That’s right, brother! Tonight, we block out the noise, and send Demolition with their tails tucked in between their legs, because the division runs through us, and we aren’t going anywhere…anytime soon!”

Bret and Neidhart head off the set as Mooney throws it back down to ringside…

Back at ringside, Piper and Monsoon give us one last bit of hype as we get ready for a HUGE title bout!!

Match 3- WWF Tag Team Championship

Bret Hart and Smash start things off. Bret Hart uses his speed to his advantage early on to neutralize Smash’s power. Hart and Neidhart keep Smash far away from his corner, cutting the ring in half to their favor. Following a heavy right hand from Bret Hart, he tags in “The Anvil” to continue the carnage!

Neidhart begins wearing down Smash with hard right hands and forearms. Neidhart whips Smash into the corner and follows up with a BIG SPLASH!!

Smash falls flat on the mat and Neidhart goes for the pin attempt until Crush is there to break it up! Bret Hart runs in and delivers a dropkick to Crush. Crush stays on his feet, staggering. Hart runs off the ropes to clothesline Crush, but Crush ducks…

AND BRET HART RUNS RIGHT INTO JIM NEIDHART, KNOCKING HIS PARTNER DOWN TO THE MAT!!

Hart turns around where a waiting Crush uses his ridiculous power to MILITARY PRESS BRET HART over his shoulders…

CRUSH TOSSES BRET HART OVER THE ROPES LIKE A RAG DOLL, AND HART CRASHES TO THE RINGSIDE FLOOR!!!

Order is finally restored, as Crush heads back to his corner. Back inside the ring, Neidhart is still shaken up from colliding with Bret, and begins to walk with a limp! Smash has fully recovered and targets Neidhart’s knee, connecting with a CHOP BLOCK!!

Smash reaches out and tags in Crush! Crush continues the assault on Neidhart’s knee as he stomps on it! Crush then lifts Neidhart’s leg off the mat and slams it back down!!

Bret Hart begins to slowly climb back over to his corner while trying his best to pump up Neidhart, but Bret is holding his ribs and seems to be in a tremendous amount of pain!!

Crush lifts the massive Neidhart in the air and presses him over his head before dropping him hard to the mat! Piper and Monsoon hype up the size and strength of the youngster Crush and say he has some future ahead of him here in the WWF.

Crush lifts Neidhart up in the powerbomb position but Neidhart HEADBUTTS Crush, muscles his way out of Crush’s grip, and HITS A DESPERATION BODY SLAM!!!

Neidhart struggles to get to his corner before he is able to make THE HOT TAG TO BRET HART!!!

Hart heads inside the ring with a second wind, drilling Crush with flying forearms left and right. Hart goes over to Smash and knocks him off the apron. Hart turns around and ducks a big boot from Crush, rushes off the ropes, and hits a SUNSET FLIP!!!

1…2….NOOO!!!

Crush kicks out, but The Hart Foundation have gained the momentum for the time being!!

Hart and Neidhart begin some double team work on Crush as they connect with a double clothesline! Neidhart holds the beaten Crush up as Hart goes for a FLYING FOREARM… but at the last second, Crush hits the deck…

AND BRET HART DRILLS JIM NEIDHART WITH THE FLYING FOREARM INSTEAD!!!!

Our announcers play up this was the second time in the match Hart has hit is own partner instead of a member of Demolition!

Crush then grabs both Neidhart and Hart’s heads AND BANGS THEM TOGETHER!!!

Hart falls on the mat, holding his face, while Neidhart is out on his feet. Crush takes advantage of the miscommunication as he lifts “The Anvil” up and CONNECTS WITH A TILT-A-WHIRL BACKBREAKER!!!

Demolition can taste victory as Bret Hart is still down on the outside, and as the camera pans closer, we can see blood dripping from his nose!!!

Back inside the ring, Crush tags in Smash. Crush lifts Neidhart once more and connects with a BACK BREAKER… AND HOLDS ONTO NEIDHART AS SMASH ASCENDS TO THE TOP ROPE…

DEMOLTION DECAPATATION!

Smash hooks the leg while Crush provides lookout!!

The crowd is in SHOCK as Demolition are handed their newly won tag team title belts! Smash and Crush embrace as they exit the ring and begin to head up the aisle way…

WHERE THE LEGION OF DOOM JUST SO HAPPEN TO BE STANDING!!!

A host of WWF Officials quickly rush to the center of the aisle, breaking the two teams a part!!

Hawk and Animal stand tall in the aisle way, pointing and talking smack to Smash and Crush, who proudly hold their newly won Tag titles up high!!! WE HAVE A POWDER KEG WAITING TO EXPLODE BETWEEN DEMOLITION AND THE LEGION OF DOOM!!!!

Back inside the ring, Bret Hart helps Jim Neidhart up to his feet as the two family members share a long hug! Neidhart looks over at Bret Hart with a sad look, knowing this might just be the last time they’ve tagged together. Neidhart continues to limp around the ring as he shakes his head, knowing he has done significant damage to his right knee!

Hart and Neidhart share another hug before Neidhart raises Bret Hart’s hand, signaling the potential end of their historic tag team run!!

For now, Demolition leaves as the new Tag Team Champions, and a date with LOD awaits them at Wrestlemania 7, while Bret Hart may just be coming into his own as a singles competitor in very short order…

We switch gears as Piper and Monsoon begin to hype up THE ROYAL RUMBLE MATCH!! 30 Men…no friends…only foes…WINNER GOES TO WRESTLEMANIA 7!!!

It’s time for the classic Royal Rumble promos! We hear from a plethora of participants, including HULK HOGAN, TED DIBIASE, JAKE ROBERTS, DUSTY RHODES and “HACKSAW” JIM DUGGAN!!

Following the incredible hype promos, we head back down to ringside where WWF PRESIDENT JACK TUNNEY is seated next to the timekeeper’s desk! Tunney is out here to officially award the winner of the match his WWF Championship opportunity at Wrestlemania 7!! It doesn’t get any bigger than the ROYAL RUMBLE MATCH!!!

Match 4- Royal Rumble Match- Winner goes to Wrestlemania 7 to challenge for the WWF Championship

Howard Finkel stands tall inside the center of the ring, laying out the instructions for the match…

"AND NOW…LET’S ALL FIND OUT…WHO DREW NUMBER ONE!!!"

"THE MODEL" RICK MARTEL heads on out first to a loud barrage of boos! Martel isn’t thrilled with drawing number one, and is extra smug tonight! Martel sprays his bottle of Arrogance around the ring as we await NUMBER TWO!!!

TITO SANTANA heads out at number two!! Rick Martel is irate inside the ring, as his former tag team partner turned arch-nemesis is all but happy to get a few minutes alone inside the ring with Martel!!

Santana and Martel hammer away on each other as we kick off the Royal Rumble Match!! THE MOUNTIE, TEXAS TORNADO AND THE WARLORD round out the first five men in the match!

The Mountie works over Tornado, while Warlord plays facilitator and tries to help Martel eliminate Tito Santana!

LUKE AND BUTCH of The Bushwhackers draw the next two spots, and both suffer the same fate! Luke whacks his way inside the ring where The Warlord grabs him by the head and tosses him to the floor!! Luke continues his bushwhacking up the aisle as The Warlord goes back to beating down on Santana and Texas Tornado!!

It’s now Butch’s turn to hobble his way down, and suffers the same fate as The Warlord easily tosses him out, only for Butch to bushwhack his way back up the entrance aisle!!

TUGBOAT is out next, and The Warlord has his work cut out for him as Tugboat puts up way more of a fight than The Bushwhackers!! The two massive men-who if put together in a tag team would definitely be called “Tug of War” which would get them over instantly-begin throwing haymakers!!

KOKO B. WARE and THE UNDERTAKER round out the first ten participants!! The Undertaker begins to clean house, not caring what the other superstars’ alignment is! He tosses out The Mountie and Texas Tornado with ease!! Koko tries his best on ‘Taker, but suffers the same fate!!

SHAWN MICHAELS, BIG BOSS MAN, TED DIBIASE, MARTY JANNETTY and BRIAN KNOBBS round out the next five entrants, and we are officially at THE HALF WAY POINT OF THE ROYAL RUMBLE!!

Tugboat gets the best of The Warlord and is able to toss him out, but then runs into The Undertaker who easily dispatches Tugboat to the floor! Shawn and Marty try their best with a DOUBLE SUPERKICK to The Undertaker, and while they make the big man stagger, he grabs BOTH MEN AROUND THEIR THROATS…

AND CHOKESLAMS BOTH OVER THE ROPES, TO THE FLOOR!!!

Rick Martel and Tito Santana continue to get out a year’s worth of frustration on each other, while Ted Dibiase berates Virgil from the outside to produce cash to give to The Undertaker! Virgil refuses, telling Dibiase to figure it out on his own!!

The meat of the match brings us BRITISH BULLDOG, JAKE ROBERTS, EARTHQUAKE, JERRY SAGS and DUSTY RHODES which gets us to 20 participants!!

While The Undertaker makes quick work of both Brian Knobs and Jerry Sags, a watchful Big Boss Man GRABS A HOLD OF THE UNDERTAKER AND SENDS HIM TO THE FLOOR!!!

Piper and Monsoon can’t believe The Undertaker was eliminated, and neither can the big man himself!! The Undertaker quickly tosses a host of referees aside as he climbs back up to the apron, inside the ring AND BEGINS TO CHOKE THE LIFE OUT OF BIG BOSS MAN!!!

Boss Man quickly goes to sleep as The Undertaker refuses to pry his cold, dead hand from Boss Man’s throat!! Eventually, Undertaker lets go, but Boss Man is completely out cold, and it takes a strong Earthquake to dump him to the floor!!

SGT. SLAUGHTER, HERCULES, “HACKSAW” JIM DUGGAN, HAKU AND GREG VALENTINE bring us up to 25, and the ring is getting crowded at this point!!

Dusty Rhodes and Ted Dibiase begin to trade blows, and soon both men find themselves on the apron, hanging on for dear life!! Dibiase shouts to Virgil to help him up, but Virgil has had enough of Dibiase’s verbal berating and simply allows Dusty Rhodes to kick Dibiase TO THE FLOOR!!

Dusty looks on as Dibiase pushes Virgil…Virgil has the fans behind him as he grits his teeth…

Dusty looks on but happens to look for too long, as Jake Roberts pushes Dusty off the apron, to the floor!!

Down on the floor, Dusty continues to watch as Virgil HAS FINALLY HAD ENOUGH OF DIBIASE…and with Dusty goading Virgil on…VIRGIL SNAPS AND DRILLS TED DIBIASE WITH HIS OWN MILLION DOLLAR TITLE!!!

The crowd pops, Dusty embraces Virgil, picks up the Million Dollar title, and the two head up the aisle together!!!

We get to the point in the match where everybody teams up and tries their best to eliminate Earthquake, but the massive man kicks everybody off of him!!

Earthquake then takes a stab at British Bulldog, but the extremely strong Bulldog is waiting AND PICKS EARTHQUAKE UP, CONNECTING WITH BODY SLAM!!!

The crowd can’t believe it, and neither can Jimmy Hart at ringside as he puts his hands over his head!!

Bulldog picks Earthquake up once more, and in an impressive feat of strength, BULLDOG DROPS EARTHQUAKE OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

The rabid WWF crowd gives Bulldog a HUGE POP for the feat of strength!!

During this entire time, Rick Martel AND Tito Santana are STILL both hanging in there, clobbering each other in the corner, going on-and-off with the others in the match! Jake Roberts sets his sights on Martel, the man he credits for showing him the light while blinding him, and helps Martel FINALLY eliminate Tito Santana!!

Martel thinks he and Roberts are friends, but THERE ARE NO FRIENDS, ONLY FOES IN THIS MATCH….and Jake eliminates Martel!!

DINO BRAVO, THE BARBARIAN, HULK HOGAN, PAUL ROMA and MR. PERFECT officially bring us to 30 men, and now it is time to see who rises to the top!!

Hulk Hogan enters LIKE A HEAT SEEKING MISSILE, laying waste to Hercules, Paul Roma, Greg Valentine and Haku!! The crowd is firmly behind Hogan, who has gotten arguably the biggest ovation of the night thus far!!

Sgt. Slaughter, the fresh American turncoat, finds himself in Jim Duggan’s crosshairs as Duggan takes exception to Slaughter’s new-found hatred towards America…and with the help of Hulk Hogan, Sgt. Slaughter is eliminated!!

British Bulldog continues his impressive performance as he dumps out Dino Bravo and The Barbarian!!

Mr. Perfect, drawing the sweet spot at number 30, is able to thwart an elimination attempt from Jim Duggan and drops him to the floor!!!

WE ARE DOWN TO OUR FINAL FOUR!!!

Hulk Hogan, Mr. Perfect, Jake Roberts and British Bulldog!!

Hogan works on Jake Roberts, while Mr. Perfect and British Bulldog trade blows in the opposite corner! Hogan tries to dump Roberts out, but after getting Jake over the top rope, he is able to slither his way back inside underneath the bottom rope!!

Mr. Perfect and Bulldog both find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time as they are both hovered over the top rope…Both men fall over…BRITISH BULLDOG LANDS ON THE FLOOR….BUT MR. PERFECT SKINS THE CAT AND MUSCLES HIS WAY BACK INSIDE THE RING…

ONLY TO GET HIT WITH A BIG BOOT FROM HULK HOGAN!!!

The crowd gives Hulk Hogan A MASSIVE POP as he drops down to his knees, completely spent from fending off Jake Roberts!!

The camera pans to Jake Roberts, who sits on the ringside floor, shooting absolute daggers back inside the ring at a celebrating Hulk Hogan! Roberts refuses to get up, and instead soaks in the loss, fueling his dark side even more than it was before the match begun!!

WWF President Jack Tunney heads inside the ring to officially congratulate Hulk Hogan, while Piper and Monsoon play up Hogan on commentary, saying Hogan will either get a re-match with Randy Savage or The Ultimate Warrior at Wrestlemania 7!!!

Hulk Hogan grabs a hold of his American flag and waves it high through the air, all while Jake Roberts continues to sulk on the ringside floor!!!

For now, Hulk Hogan is YOUR ROYAL RUMBLE WINNER…and has a date for the WWF Championship AT WRESTLEMANIA 7!!!

Following that triumphant performance from Hulk Hogan, Piper and Monsoon cool us down as they begin to hype our next PPV, the biggest one on the calendar- WRESTLEMANIA 7!!

The camera pans in on Roberts’ face as we hang on his every word…

And with that, Jake Roberts slithers off the set as Sean Mooney sends it over to Mean Gene!

Mean Gene is standing by with MACHO KING and QUEEN SHERRI! Both look as tense as ever, as Macho King has all the pressure in the world on him tonight, something that Okerlund touches on…

That’s what I live for Mean Gene…I wake up in the morning AND I LOOK IN THE MIRROR…and looking back at me is nothing more than a face THAT SHATTERS PRESSURE INTO A MILLION tiny little pieces... YEAH! I’ve been under the gun before…and EVERYBODY knows THE MACHO KING RISES TO THE TOP UHH HUHH…”

The words flow as if Macho King is talking himself into believing his words, all while Sherri has a thousand-yard stare…

The now-confident Macho King heads off the set while Sherri tags along, and Mean Gene sends it back down to ringside for one last time…

Back down at ringside, Piper and Monsoon are HYPED for our MAIN EVENT of the evening! It’s the WWF CHAMPIONSHIP! The winner goes on to defend the WWF Championship at Wrestlemania 7 against the newly crowned Royal Rumble winner, HULK HOGAN!!

Macho King is out first, and this is our first realization that for the first time in a long time, the rabid WWF crowd has mixed in some cheers for Randy Savage! Savage hears them, and Queen Sherri isn’t thrilled with the reaction Savage gets!

Macho King poses on the top rope as Ultimate Warrior’s music begins to play, and the sound of the music BLOWS THE ROOF OFF THE ARENA!!! These fans LOVE Ultimate Warrior!!!

The reigning WWF Champion sprints down the aisle was if he was shot out of a cannon! Warrior runs around ringside…

MACHO KING TIMES IT UP PERFECTLY…

AND LEAPS OFF THE TOP ROPE ONTO ULTIMATE WARRIOR ON THE RINGSIDE FLOOR!!!

The crowd is stunned as Savage mounts Warrior on the floor, dealing lefts and rights to the champion! Queen Sherri’s emotion stays the same, as she shouts for Savage to continue the beating, wanting MORE from her king!!

Warrior is able to toss Savage off of him, but not before Savage slides Warrior inside the ring! Referee Earl Hebner finally calls for the official bell!

Warrior hasn’t even had the time to take his WWF Championship off as Savage heads back to the top rope…

DOUBLE AXE HANDLE FROM SAVAGE!!!

Warrior drops to the mat, where the impact from Savage’s devastating Axe Handle causes Warrior’s title to fall off!

The credits begin to roll as the last scene we see from The Royal Rumble is Hulk Hogan standing inside the ring, looking down at Ultimate Warrior….

There are many questions that need answering right now…Did Queen Sherri move on from Randy Savage and align herself with Jake Roberts? When did she hatch this plan? And what about Ultimate Warrior REFUSING Hulk Hogan’s handshake? Has he no respect for Hulk Hogan on the road to their historic re-match at Wrestlemania 7? Guess we will all have to tune back in to find out…

I know I've already read this in some form or another, but I've got myself an awful memory so getting to go through everything again is fun.

Inject the 'Ultimate Rematch' into my veins. I honestly can't recall if that's where this thread goes - though I think it should. There's money in the rematch at Mania. I think Hogan around this time is such a great character because he's such a good guy that anyone against him can lean a bit more heel and do things they normally might not do. I'm a sucker for the monster of the month as well with Hogan, so I'm all for him getting the belt and let's have us some Hogan vs. bad buy heel for a few months while we build up something different.

Personally, I've got a fondness for the Model and I hope (again I cannot remember) he gets something in this thread. Push please, belts a plently for Rick.

The Royal Rumble came through like a freight train and it certainly did not disappoint. A week has passed since we saw the star-studded affair packed with some of the most intense action and drama ever presented inside a WWF ring! With the Royal Rumble in the rearview mirror, we are now full speed ahead onto THE ROAD TO WRESTLEMANIA 7!!

Before we continue our journey towards Wrestlemania 7, let’s take a look at some of the fallout from The Royal Rumble!!

THE ULTIMATE RE-MATCH IS SET!

HULK HOGAN had the honor of winning the Royal Rumble match, which in turn guarantees him a WWF Championship opportunity at Wrestlemania 7, where he will take on the man who de-throned him one calendar year ago- WWF WORLD CHAMPION ULTIMATE WARRIOR!!

This year, things are a bit different. There is no sportsmanship, as we saw on the final scene of the Royal Rumble, when Ultimate Warrior REFUSED to shake Hulk Hogan’s hand! Everybody with a backstage pass and a microphone tried to catch up with Ultimate Warrior following the show’s close, but the WWF Champion brushed right by everybody.

For now, we do not know where Ultimate Warrior’s head is at leading into Wrestlemania 7! All we know is Hulk Hogan is heading into Wrestlemania 7 with a full head of steam, carrying the entire United States on his shoulders, with his sights set on taking back the WWF Championship that he held for the first time in a long time at the end of the Royal Rumble…

BETRAYAL

Another big story coming out of the Royal Rumble was JAKE ROBERTS COSTING MACHO KING RANDY SAVAGE in his WWF Championship bout! As the WWF Championship was within reach for Randy Savage, he took to the skies to connect on not one, but two ELBOW DROPS! We will never know if he were to hit the third Elbow Drop, and possibly pin Ultimate Warrior clean for the title- all due to JAKE ROBERTS!

After destroying Ultimate Warrior with a steel chair, Roberts looked in the direction of Queen Sherri and winked- something the cameras picked up on. While Sherri beat Savage with her high heel shoe, we now know that if anything else, Sherri is through with Randy Savage!

The big question now is quite simple- Are Jake Roberts and Queen Sherri working together? As of now, we don’t know the answer, but things should clear up as we head onto the Road to Wrestlemania 7!

OTHER NEWS AND NOTES

DEMOLITION captured the WWF Tag Team titles from The Hart Foundation, and now find themselves looking into a mirror as THE LEGION OF DOOM awaits for the highly anticipated Tag Team Championship matchup at Wrestlemania 7!

WWF INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPION MR. PERFECT survived a scare from The Big Boss Man, and now looks to keep his title in-tact at Wrestlemania 7! WWF President Jack Tunney announced this week that a huge 20-Man Battle Royal would take place to determine Mr. Perfect’s opponent at Wrestlemania 7!

Some other stories coming out of the Royal Rumble: EARTHQUAKE did not take too kind to BRITISH BULLDOG lifting him up with ease and dumping him out of the Royal Rumble…THE UNDERTAKER choked the life out of BIG BOSS MAN, and we now await Boss Man’s retaliation!...TED DIBIASE got smacked with his own Million Dollar Title by VIRGIL…all while DUSTY RHODES goaded Virgil on, and the two exited together, with Dusty waving the Million Dollar Title high above the air…there will be more to this in the coming weeks…

Rockers v Power & Glory is a great way to get the crowd going at the start of this show. similar to the match they had at Summerslam '90, albeit slightly longer. I feel like The Rocker's really shine in the opening spot of the night, and this was a fun and quick read. Rockers get their win back and Jannetty even gets the pinfall! Damn. Also, something I love in any BTB is a real focus on building a tag division, and whilst I think you might need to bring some new blood in and switch things up, Rockers' atop a tag division in the early nineties would be quite alright by me.

Haha. Ah damn I love Mr Perfect, and his "Perfect Cage" is straight off the school playground for insults and it works so well. I forget when WWF stopped doing these pre match promos on PPV's...probably when they suddenly had weekly tv they could build up feuds and epic video packages, but I really enjoy these and think they do a great job of quickly showing you what's at stake and building anticipation. YES Perfect taking a tumble over the ropes in a non-rumble match at the rumble is a wonderful trope, especially since it might be Bossman that eliminates him! Strong booking with how you used the cage, and Heenan being sneaky, although I have to say that the description of the finish was a little bit clunky. But most importantly - Perfect retains; I wouldnt have it any other way.

LOD saying wild shit and then randomly shouting is down to a tee. Nailed it.

Oh no. As soon as Bret hit Jim early on I knew which way this was going. AND THEN HE DID IT AGAIN! Bret vs Jim feud? A shame as personally I love these guys, but I am also pretty eager to see what you do with them and who goes heel and if it brings in Owen to do Bret v Owen. Lots of ways it can go, which I guess is more exciting than just having them reign supreme and then tread water til Mania. Also, I literally just discovered that Demoliton vs LOD never happened in real life, so common sense is to make it happen at Mania. Good call.

Oh man. Fink announcing the Royal Rumble is iconic in and of itself. Hot damn sometimes it's easy to forget just how threadbare this roster was at this time. The star power is probably saved for the end, although you're not wrong about Tug O' War getting over by name alone. Love Taker just eliminating bodies, and Koko better B WARE (ugh) or he'll get another stiff Tombstone for his troubles. I am torn on having three or five guys introduces in one sentence. It's much easier to read and the match flies by, but I think there are so many opportunities to plant seeds for the entire roster that I'd love a bit more of that. Am I living in a world where we could Warlord vs Tugboat at Mania!?!? Don't tease me with a good/hilarious time.

Oh man, Taker vs Bossman incoming, eight years early?

Dusty coming in and not getting a mention for ten minutes seemed a bit odd, a consequence of the recap style. Anyway, Dusty runs wild and kicks Dibiase out, and then we get Virgil turning on Dibiase in the rumble rather than in a tag match, which is a HUGE improvement on what they did in real life. Hope this leads to a big push for Virgil as with the right gimmick, look, and push, he could have been a big asset for the company. OH HELL YEAH, Bulldog deserves a big 'oh my god' moment, he was crazy strong, and a feat like that carries a lot of momentum. And then he gets a few eliminations to do a bit of stat padding which will give him some ammunition to maybe go after the IC title. Smith was a huge name around this time too and I know people who only got into wrestling because of him and Summerslam '92 being hosted in the UK. He was our guy.

Ahh Hogan winning makes perfect sense, he's still the golden goose, so that's the way it goes. Love that Bulldog, Roberts, Martel (iron man, right!?) and Warlord were featured and utilised really well. Virgil turning on Dibiase is a big deal for that story, and the shape of a WrestleMania card is already coming together quite nicely here (Martel v Tito, Virgil w/ Dusty v Dibiase, Bulldog v Perfect, Hogan/Warrior , and LOD v Demolition, add in Taker/Bossman and whilst I am sometimes terrible at predictions, these all seem to naturally follow). Roberts going uber heel after the match is probably the angle I'm most looking forward to seeing play out.

...and you deliver on it right away. Solid match with Savage carrying Warrior to a readable match but the post-match angle is excellent. I should've known better than to trust Sherri to stand by her man when she has consistently proven that she wont. Totally worked me here. All four men getting involved, means you immediately establish a very strong foursome in the main event scene. Any combination of these four will give you a huge Mania level match, so kudos on writing that so well.

A strong opener, great building of several storylines on the road to Mania, and you have at least six or seven ways for everything to play it, which is really exciting. A great write up, fun show, and I look forward to seeing the fallout to everything that happened here.

I love this time period. I've always wanted to do a project focused on this era, but I've often been busy with other projects that take up my time and prevent me from fully committing.

Currently, I'm working on a 1991 project on a different board, and I've been watching WWF shows from 1991 on YouTube that feature the entire time frame. It's wild to see how, in one show, your whole world can be so different from real-life events. I love it!

I'll say that running Warrior/Hogan was a choice. Especially when you listen to guys like Bruce on his podcast, they criticize the matchup. But even when he said that, in hindsight, I think fans would have enjoyed that match-up. The same goes for the whole Flair/Hogan situation; people say it didn't draw and was a bad match, but I feel it could have worked. Oh well, that's why we have these projects to see if we can make it work.

I have to say I absolutely LOVE what you're doing with Jake. It was very creative to use Jake's blindness to turn him heel and embrace the darkness instead of doing that goofy blindfold match with Martel, even though that match was unexpectedly fun to watch in real life. I have a feeling Jake will become a major player in your project, and he definitely should.

Great show, capturing the feel of the era and adding your own fresh twist. I love it, and I’ll be very active following this thread. Keep it coming!

Reading through this again is already off to a great start. Trying really hard not to spoil what I know comes with these comments. I will say that the potential Mania card is stacking up pretty well so far. Hogan/Warrior, Roberts/Savage (with Roberts character change and the Sherri betrayal, can't help but feel the build to this should be awesome), then we've still got guys like Taker, Hennig and even Bret, now as a singles guy, to get booked.

Oh shit, how did I forget about the epic idea of a Demolition/LOD confrontation as well?

Looking forward to the road to Mania, because card is looking like it will be damn good.

THE ULTIMATE RE-MATCH

From the minute HULK HOGAN tossed Jake Roberts out of the ring and laid claim to a WWF World title opportunity at Wrestlemania 7, everybody in the world began to clamor for something now simply known as: THE ULTIMATE RE-MATCH!!

The ongoing theme throughout The Road to Wrestlemania 7 for THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR and Hulk Hogan has been something that doesn’t seem like much on the surface, but the simple gesture that always finds itself at the center of attention- Ultimate Warrior’s refusal to shake Hulk Hogan’s hand! Hogan respects Warrior enough to offer a handshake, but Ultimate Warrior snarks at the hand of Hulk Hogan!

Following a week’s worth of hype throughout all of Titan’s televised platforms from both Hogan and Warrior, things came to a head on the airing of THE MAIN EVENT on February 1, 1991. Ultimate Warrior and Hulk Hogan teamed up to take on Power and Glory. Throughout the beginning and middle of the match, Hogan and Warrior worked together as a well-oiled machine as they quickly laid waste to both Hercules and Paul Roma…but then came the ending, and as you could imagine, things didn’t end the way anybody watching wanted them to end…

February 1, 1991

Until Warrior hops off the ropes and Hogan is standing right in front of him…Hogan goes to raise Warrior’s hand high in the air…

Warrior immediately snaps into alien mode as he looks at Hogan like he has ten heads before PULLING HIS HAND BACK DOWN…NOT WANTING HOGAN TO RAISE IT!!! Instead, Warrior stares at Hogan, who has moved on from the hand raising and now has HIS HAND OUT FOR WARRIOR TO SHAKE…

“C’mon, brother! Just shake my hand!”

Warrior looks down at Hogan’s hand as the rabid WWF crowd cheers for Warrior to shake it…

BUT ONCE AGAIN….ULTIMATE WARRIOR REFUSES THE HANDSHAKE!!!

Instead, Warrior walks right by Hogan and out of the ring, shaking his head back and forth profusely as he continues to look down at the WWF title- the same WWF title he defends against the man inside the ring in just a few short weeks!!

Following another bout of Warrior refusing to shake Hogan’s hand, things begun to get a bit more heated as both Ultimate Warrior and Hulk Hogan sat down at the official WWF Fanfest as they were set for an OFFICIAL CONTRACT SIGNING FOR WRESTLEMANIA 7!!

A large conference table is set in the middle of a big room, with a WWF logo backdrop. On one side of the table sits Hulk Hogan, and on the opposite side sits Ultimate Warrior, dressed in a Canadian Tuxedo with face paint! The WWF World title is placed between the two, while WWF President Jack Tunney sits at the head of the table…

After Tunney does a small song and dance for the cameras, he hands a pen to Hulk Hogan. Hogan smiles for the camera before signing his name on the dotted line…

Hogan then looks over at Warrior, but not before he takes another very long look at the WWF World title belt. Hogan lets out a deep breath as he stares back into the eyes of his Wrestlemania 7 opponent…

“Ultimate Warrior, brother, I have a ton of respect for you, dude! Take this pen, sign your name, and then shake my hand!”

Hogan reaches the pen over to Warrior who lets out a snarl before snatching then pen from Hogan’s hand. Warrior signs the contract, Tunney holds it up for the world to see, a million flash-bulbs go off while the contract-signing spectators applaud the official signing of THE ULTIMATE RE-MATCH!!

With the signing official, Hulk Hogan gives Warrior one last peace offering as he reaches his hand across the table, waiting for a handshake from Warrior in return…

Instead, Warrior sits there, stoically, staring a hole through Hogan…Warrior snorts one more time before getting words out…

“The Ultimate Warrior shakes no hand of the man he is prepared to unleash war against! Hulk Hogan! I WILL NOT shake your hand! I CAN NOT shake your hand! I feel the power of a thousand volts of energy flowing through my body and THEY ALL TELL ME NO!”

Hogan takes his hand back as Warrior stands up from his seat…Hogan also stands up, and now we are at fever pitch with a tense stand-off…

“HULK HOGAN! From this point on, do not reach out your hand again, as your just signed a declaration of WAR! And in war…there must be a winner…there must be a loser…and ONLY ONE OF US will leave with the ultimate prize in the galaxy!”

By this point, Hogan has had enough and cuts off Warrior…

“I didn’t want it to be this way, my friend. But it seems you’ve left me no other option. I will not offer another handshake, I don’t need your respect…I just need that WWF Championship you hold…And I’m gonna hit you with everything I have…I’LL SEE YOU AT WRESTLEMANIA 7, BROTHER!”

And with that, Hogan calmly walks away, while Warrior stands at his seat, looking down at his WWF World title while making all sorts of grunts and snorts along the way!!

There isn’t much left to be said about the main event of Wrestlemania 7- THE ULTIMATE RE-MATCH! The Ultimate Warrior heads into Wrestlemania 7 full of steam as he takes on another man with just as much momentum at the moment in Hulk Hogan! Only one will walk out with the WWF title high above their head, and then, and only then, will we know if respect is earned…

MANIPULATED CHAOS

Chaotic is one word to describe the final moments of the Royal Rumble, and JAKE ROBERTS was the main culprit of that chaos!

Following the events at the end of the Royal Rumble, which saw Jake Roberts cost RANDY SAVAGE the WWF Championship, it seemed as if Roberts had aligned with Queen Sherri…however, Jake Roberts had some interesting words for the entire situation following the Royal Rumble…

As the Royal Rumble went off the air, and Roberts was finally separated from Savage, he took to the locker room, where SEAN MOONEY rushed through to get a word with Roberts, which aired the following week on Superstars, alongside being included in the Coliseum Home Video edition of the Royal Rumble…

“I said earlier on IF I AM NOT HAPPY…then nobody inside the WWF will be happy…and I made good on my promise tonight. See, I no longer care what people think of me. The fans, the boys in the back, the tabloids…I cut them out of my life…and now…I’m solely focused on the chaos I plan to bring…"

The camera pans in to Jake’s cold, dark eyes as he continues…

“I played Sherri against Savage, and I did it for fun. I heard Sherri float my name around as a potential client, but she and I never had a plan…quite the opposite, in fact…what you saw tonight was Jake Roberts creating an opportunity where there wasn’t one…Randy Savage, I see you for what you are- a shell of your former self…weak…coward…scared…And I know the minute I knock you down a peg or two and give you a reality check…that brings me one step closer to the WWF Championship…”

Mooney hangs on every word from Jake Roberts as he continues…

“So now, my sole focus is on you, Randy Savage! I plan on making your life a living hell! If I can’t get Warrior or Hogan, I’ll settle for third place right now…and Savage, buckle up…because I plan on making things extremely uncomfortable…and extremely personal…Trust me!”

Roberts slithers off the set as Mooney ends the interview…

Following the Royal Rumble, Randy Savage found himself in a very dark place. He lost a golden opportunity at re-gaining the WWF Championship, was now embroiled in a blood feud with a dangerous Jake Roberts, and on top of everything else, he was all alone. QUEEN SHERRI tried her best to win back Savage after she realized her plan had crumbled when Jake Roberts rejected her services, but Savage wanted nothing to do with her!

During this dark time, what Savage missed most wasn’t just MISS ELIZABETH, but it was the roar of the WWF crowd! He got a taste of the crowd cheering for him at the Royal Rumble, and felt the connection deep down, the same feeling that made him fall in love with the WWF in the first place.

Things finally came to a head in the middle of February on SUPERSTARS…

Randy Savage stands inside the center of the ring, holding his crown and scepter in one hand as if they are a pair of library books he is about to return. He has a mic in his other hand, and begins to speak from the heart…

“For the past few weeks, I’ve thought about a lot of things, yeah….I’ve thought about that slimeball JAKE ROBERTS…I’ve thought about my time as King…I’ve thought about my quest for gold…and I’ve thought about how for the past two years, I turned my back on everything that made me THE MACHO MAN!”

The crowd pops loud for the thought of “Macho Man” returning…

“I thought about retiring…I thought about HANGING THE BOOTS UP FOR GOOD…but then it dawned on me…I don’t have to quit…I just have to RE-INVENT MYSELF UHH HUHHH! And that’s what I plan on doing right now, yeah…You fans deserve better than Macho King…You deserve…”

Savage is quickly cut off by QUEEN SHERRI who races down to the ring. She takes the mic from Savage before getting down on her hands and knees!!

“PLEASE! Randy! Please don’t do this! We have so much more to accomplish…you and me…What’s a Queen without her King? Randy! I’m begging you…please give me one more chance!”

Savage pries Sherri off of him as he looks out into the crowd for their advice! The crowd is firmly behind Savage as they shout “MACHO MAN!” at the top of their lungs…

“Randy, don’t listen to them! I have everything you need, MACHO KING! I only said those things to motivate you towards gold…I didn’t mean any of them! PLEASE!”

“MACHO MAN!” chants rain down even louder than before! Savage tries his best to calm down Queen Sherri as he takes the mic…

“Sherri…I UNDERSTAND where you’re COMING FROM, heat of the moment I get it…yeah…And I CAN HEAR the words coming out of your mouth, uhh uhh….but I also know thattt you are the manipulator of ALL MANIPULATORS OOHHH YEAHHH….”

Sherri tries to wrap her arms around Savage but he shrugs her off…

“With that being saiddddd…I THINK IT’S TIMEEEEE…THAT YOU AND I GO ON SEPARATE PATHSSSS…..”

The crowd POPS LOUD at the words from Savage…

“So, now would be the best time for you, Sherri…TO HIT THE BRICKSSSSS!”

YEAH!!! Another loud pop!!!

“Because….THE MACHO MAN IS BACK!!!! OHHHHH YEAHHHHHH!!!!!!”

HELL YEAH!!! MACHO MAN IS BACK!!! The crowd LOVES this as Sherri falls back to the ground, faking a faint as she has just come to the realization that Queen Sherri is no more!!!

Savage plays into the crowd as he wags is finger and nods his head…

BUT WAIT A SECOND!!!!

JAKE ROBERTS HAS SLITHERED HIS WAY INTO THE RING….AND HE HAS PICKED UP SAVAGE’S SCEPTER!!!

Macho Man has his back turned to Roberts, so he doesn’t see it coming….The crowd tries to warn Savage…

WHACK!!!!!

JAKE ROBERTS BLASTS MACHO MAN ACROSS THE BACK OF THE HEAD WITH HIS OWN SCEPTER!!!!

Savage hits the deck as blood immediately begins to POUR FROM THE BACK OF HIS HEAD!!!!

Roberts stands over Savage, broken scepter still in his hand, and much like at the Royal Rumble, he looks down at Sherri who has been watching this all unfold…AND JAKE WINKS AT SHERRI!!!

A host of WWF Officials and Medics race down to the ring as Roberts simply exits the ring and walks back up the aisle way, all while Savage is placed on a gurney!!!

From there, the match was OFFICALLY MADE for Wrestlemania 7- MACHO MAN VERSUS JAKE ROBERTS!!! In another twist, WWF President Jack Tunney added a NO DISQUALIFICATIONS stipulation, as a way for these two to work out their problems without ANY repercussions!

For the next few weeks leading right into Wrestlemania 7, the two were held a part as Savage recovered from the Scepter blast, while Jake continued to wallow in his own self-pity about how he is always passed over, and vowed to end that stigma surrounding him at Wrestlemania 7!

At Wrestlemania 7, these two titans will do battle, and this one has gotten more than personal! Will Jake Roberts pick up a career win and defeat Macho Man? Or will Savage’s rage from the scepter attack and new-found appreciation for the WWF fans be enough to get him a massive win on the grandest stage of them all??

By retaining the title he has held off and on for the past year, Mr. Perfect found himself cemented into a match at Wrestlemania 7- now, he would sit and wait to see who his opponent would be…

Bret goes over to help Tito as they try and eliminate Martel, but Martel RAKES THE EYES OF BRET and re-gains his footing inside the ring!

Dino Bravo picks up Bret and slams him to the mat!

Tito lunges at Martel but “The Model” ducks and tosses Tito over!!!

BUT TITO LANDS ON THE APRON!!!

Tito grabs Martel from behind and begins pulling him over the ropes…

BOTH TITO AND MARTEL ARE ON THE APRON!!!

Tito ducks a punch from Martel and DRILLS HIM WITH A HAYMAKER….MARTEL SWINGS AS HE HOLDS ONTO THE ROPE…TITO SMASHES MARTEL’S HAND…

However, neither Bret nor Dino get a chance to go at Tito as an angry Rick Martel grabs the leg of Tito….

Meanwhile, Tito and Martel continue to brawl at ringside, as “The Model” just cost his former-tag team partner a shot at the IC title at Wrestlemania 7!!

Inside the ring, Dino miscalculates a clothesline as Bret Hart easily ducks, and carries his momentum forward…

From there, the match was MADE OFFICIAL FOR WRESTLEMANIA 7- Mr. Perfect puts his Intercontinental Championship on the line up against Bret Hart!!

While Bret Hart is a seemingly unknown entity in the world of singles competition, since losing the Tag Titles to Demolition at Royal Rumble, he has answered every challenge presented his way. Mr. Perfect, on the other hand, chose to use the Road to Wrestlemania 7 by trash-talking the upstart Bret Hart!

Bret Hart continued winning tune-up matches leading up to Wrestlemania 7, while Mr. Perfect would appear picture-in-picture at the bottom of our screens during the Bret Hart matches! Perfect let it be known the fact THAT BRET HART JUST ISN’T READY TO COMPETE AT MR. PERFECT’S LEVEL while Perfect continued telling the world that 1991 is HIS year, and it doesn’t matter who gets put in front of him, he will set them down and continue his PERFECT PATH!

A TICKING TIME BOMB

What happens when you set off a stick of dynamite right next to a bomb factory? You get the same result as the blood-feud between DEMOLITION and THE LEGION OF DOOM! Two of the roughest, toughest tag teams in the world today, gunning for each other at every opportunity-knowing they are set on a collision course for Wrestlemania 7!

Following their Tag Team Championship victory at the Royal Rumble, Smash and Crush felt they needed to do something to show to the entire world that Demolition was, in fact, stronger now than they were in the past! The duo decided to be pro-active in the attacking department, something that Hawk and Animal felt, but were ready for, seeing that they themselves were ass-kicking war machines!

The first encounter came in the middle of February when The Legion of Doom were squaring off against The Orient Express on an episode of Superstars! After quickly dispatching Kato and Tanaka, The Legion of Doom posed on their respective turnbuckles as they soaked in the loud cheers from the WWF crowd…

WHEN SUDDENLY…

SMASH AND CRUSH EMERGED INSIDE THE RING!!

Armed with their newly-won Tag Team title belts, Smash and Crush both BLASTED Hawk and Animal with the titles, leaving them defenseless! Smash and Crush stood over their fallen Wrestlemania 7 opponents, the crowd booed loudly as the champions didn’t realize they just poked the hornet’s nest…

Following the attack, The Legion of Doom made it clear that the next time Demolition showed their faces on WWF television, they would regret it, because Hawk and Animal were going to reciprocate the attack!!

Two weeks later, in late February, Demolition were on the side stage with Mean Gene, who was there to try his best to conduct an interview with the champs, when things quickly went off the rails! Before Smash could even finish his sentence…

HAWK AND ANIMAL…decked out in their red and white zubaz pants…BUM-RUSH SMASH AND CRUSH!!!

The Legion of Doom stomped and mauled away on Smash and Crush, until a host of WWF Officials stormed the stage to separate the two teams! Once separated, Hawk and Animal raised their arms for the WWF crowd, while signaling for the Tag Titles around their waists!!

Much like LOD after getting attacked, Demolition made it very clear that the next time they were in the same zip code of LOD, they would be responding, and this time, more violently than ever…

That promised violence from Demolition came to fruition two weeks later, when Hawk and Animal were scheduled for a meet and greet at a Wrestlemania 7 Fan Fest Event out in Los Angeles, California!

While Hawk and Animal signed autographs, shook hands, took pictures, and everything else in between, they weren’t prepared for what happened next…

As the line died down and the fans went their separate ways, Hawk and Animal got up from their table…

WHEN SUDDENLY SMASH AND CRUSH JUMP HAWK AND ANIMAL!!!

It was a stunning visual, something never-before-seen inside the WWF! The two teams set to do battle for the Tag Team Championship at Wrestlemania 7 where BRAWLING ALL THROUGHOUT THE WWF FAN FEST!!!

On-lookers moved out of the way as if a freight train was moving in their direction, and the two teams ended up dishing hard fists and kicks, until CRUSH took things a step too far!

While Hawk had Crush in a full mount, choking the life out of him, Crush reached for Hawk’s spiked shoulder pad…ripped off one of the spikes…

AND CRUSH JAMMED THE SPIKE RIGHT INTO HAWK’S ARM!!!

After shanking Hawk with his own spike, Crush was able to get back to his feet, but was unable to do anything else…because this prison-yard scene ended when the LAPD was legitimately called to break up the raucous! They sprayed all four men with mace, before handcuffing both teams and stuffing all four into the back of a police wagon!!

Following both teams’ run-in with the law, WWF President Jack Tunney couldn’t leave this as just an ordinary match for Wrestlemania 7…Instead, it was officially announced that at Wrestlemania 7, Demolition would defend the WWF Tag Team Championship against The Legion of Doom…IN A HOLLYWOOD STREET FIGHT!!!

There is no question that these two teams are out for blood, and at Wrestlemania 7, it might take the National Guard to pry them loose from each other! Will Demolition officially win the war and walk out of Wrestlemania 7 with their titles still in-tact? Or will The Legion of Doom dish out a punishment so severe that even two titans like Smash and Crush cannot overcome? Regardless, this is a match that you WON’T want to miss!!

THE INSURANCE POLICY

TED DIBIASE went into the Royal Rumble with aspirations of gold at Wrestlemania 7, and left without his own Million Dollar Championship!

To add insult to injury, not only did Dibiase have his Million Dollar title stolen by DUSTY RHODES, but he also lost the services of his long-time valet, VIRGIL! While Virgil had enough of Dibiase bossing him around, he decided to DECK Dibiase with the Million Dollar title, and ended up leaving alongside Dusty Rhodes- a man who Dibiase has been embroiled in a feud with for close to six months!

In the few weeks after the Royal Rumble, Virgil accompanied Dusty Rhodes to the ring, which had given Dusty new-life as he racked up victory after victory. During this time Dibiase stated that he reported the Million Dollar Title as “STOLEN” and would be reaping the rewards from an Insurance Policy he placed on the title had it ever been stolen with cause! Dibiase would take it a step further when he said something would amount from the massive payday from his Insurance Policy, and was getting close to revealing to the world just what that payday would bring him…

At the end of February, we all found out just what he meant when he headed onto the set of the BROTHER LOVE SHOW to give us the official announcement…

Brother Love stands tall on his set as he welcomes us all TO THE BROTHER LOVE SHOW! He introduces his first two guests- DUSTY RHODES and VIRGIL!!

The WWF crowd pops for Dusty and Virgil, who head out onto the set! Virgil sports the Million Dollar title on his shoulder, while Dusty plays into the crowd and gives them a little dance…Brother Love puts the mic up to Dusty for him to speak…only to cut him off before he can even get a word out!!!

“Alright thank you Dusty Rhodes! And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for!!! I give to you…the Million Dollar Man…Ted Dibiase!”

The crowd boos unmercifully as Ted Dibiase heads onto the Brother Love Show set, where Brother Love greets his good friend with a big hug! Dibiase looks over at Dusty and Virgil, and takes a good long look at the Million Dollar title draped over Virgil’s shoulder…

“Brother Ted, I hear you have some groundbreaking news you want to tell, and what better place to do it than on everybody’s favorite show?”

Dibiase laughs as grabs his suit jacket…

“That’s right, Brother Love. See, Dusty Rhodes and Virgil…you two think you have something in your possession that will change your lives, but I am sad to inform you two sorry sacks that as of right now, THE MILLION DOLLAR TITLE IS DEEMED WORTHLESS!”

Dibiase pulls out a stack of papers from his suit pocket that supposedly show that he cashed in on his Insurance Policy! Dibiase points to the stack of papers…

“Right here, in my hands, is more valuable than that title will ever be. Because if you read right here, it officially states that I, The Million Dollar Man, due to my title being STOLEN from me, am entitled to a ONE MILLION DOLLAR CASH PAYMENT!”

The WWF Crowd boos as Dibiase laughs, but wait, there’s more…

“And that’s not the best part, Brother Love. Now that I have in my possession ANOTHER million dollars, I’ve decided to invest that money! Now, I’m not talking about the stock market, or into a new yacht, or beachfront property in the Hamptons. No, I have my eyes on something that will protect The Million Dollar Empire that I am building…”

Just as Dibiase finishes his last sentence, the WWF crowd lets out a collective GASP…

BECAUSE BAM BAM BIGELOW HAS ENTERED THE BROTHER LOVE SHOW!!!!

“And my INSURANCE POLICY will do whatever I tell him to do…because HE IS BOUGHT AND PAID FOR BY THE MILLION DOLLAR MAN!!!”

Bigelow forcefully grabs Dusty Rhodes…

BIGELOW CLUBS DUSTY WITH A CLOTHESLINE!!!

Virgil tries to protect his new friend, but Ted Dibiase SMASHES VIRGIL OVER THE HEAD WITH HIS MICROPHONE!!!

Bigelow and Dibiase put the boots to Dusty and Virgil…

BIGELOW PICKS UP VIRGIL OVER HIS HEAD…

AND TOSSES HIM OFF THE BROTHER LOVE STAGE TO THE HARD CONCRETE FLOOR BELOW!!!!

Dusty rolls off the stage and quickly checks on his friend as Dibiase and Bigelow stand over them, still on the Brother Love Show set…

“Ladies and gentlemen…I give to you…MY PRIZED POSSESSION….BAM BAM BIGELOW!!!!!”

Bigelow lets out an animalistic roar as the WWF crowd showers him and Dibiase with boos!!

“This is a warning for everybody in the WWF…EVERYBODY’S GOT A PRICE….FOR THE MILLION DOLLAR MAN….AHAHAHAHAHAAA!”

And with that, Dibiase and his new “Prized Possession” Bam Bam Bigelow head off the set, while a team of Medics check on both Dusty Rhodes and Virgil down below…

From there, the match was OFFICIALLY MADE FOR WRESTLEMANIA 7- Dusty Rhodes and Virgil would team up to take on Ted Dibiase and Bam Bam Bigelow!!

While Dusty Rhodes and Virgil have the crowd at their back, and the Million Dollar title in their possession, they will stand across the ring from a very destructive force in Bam Bam Bigelow, who is also getting paid to destroy anything that Ted Dibaise deems a threat. Will Dusty and Virgil escape Wrestlemania 7 in one piece? Or will Bigelow and Dibiase dismantle the two, and begin their quest for total dominance of the WWF?

PREVAILING POWER

THE BRITISH BULLDOG turned a lot of heads at the Royal Rumble when he not only lifted up the near 400-pound EARTHQUAKE for an effortless bodyslam, but he also dumped him to the floor! While many fans were impressed, Earthquake, on the other hand, was not impressed at all. In fact, he was BEYOND MAD and used Jimmy Hart to convey that message…

Following the Royal Rumble, Earthquake and Jimmy Hart cut a promo about how Bulldog’s strength was pure luck, and that Earthquake was much stronger than Bulldog, and when given the chance, would show the world just how strong he was, proving that the Royal Rumble was a fluke!

And in good ol’ fashioned 1991 world, what is the simplest way to prove that you are stronger than your opponent? CHALLENGE THEM TO AN ARM WRESTLING CONTEST!!!

Arm Wrestling Contest
Earthquake vs. British Bulldog

British Bulldog and Earthquake sit down opposite of each other in chairs placed in the center of the ring, where an arm-wrestling table is situated between the two. Jimmy Hart hypes up Earthquake as he jumps back and forth, shouting into his megaphone!

Referee Earl Hebner is there to officiate the Arm Wrestling Contest! Quake and Bulldog lock hands, while both men grip tightly to get a better position. Hebner counts back from three…two…one…

Bulldog fires out of the gate and has Quake a quarter of the way there, before Quake storms back and pushes Bulldog half-way! Bulldog digs deep to bring the contest back to a standstill. Quake looks over at Bulldog and lets out a grin, showing he isn’t even using any of his force quite yet!

Beads of sweat begin to form across Bulldog’s face as kicks things into high gear…BULLDOG FLIPS THE CONTEST TO HIS FAVOR….HE HAS EARTHQUAKE’S ARM HALF WAY…ALMOST FULLY DOWN….

EARTHQUAKE SMASHES BULLDOG WITH A LEFT HAND!!!!

EARTHQUAKE HAS DECIDED THAT THIS ARM WRESTLING CONTEST IS OVER!!!

The WWF crowd lets out a loud boo as Earthquake shoves Bulldog off his chair to the mat!

The table falls over as Earthquake begins POUNDING ON BULLDOG’S HEAD WITH RIGHTS AND LEFTS!!!

Jimmy Hart continues to hype up Earthquake as he jumps up and down before sprinting off the ropes…

EARTHQUAKE SPLASH!!!!

Bulldog holds his back in pain as Earthquake gets up…

Jimmy Hart yells for Quaker to get in another one, and Earthquake happily obliges!!! Quake storms off the ropes…

A SECOND EARTHQUAKE SPLASH!!!!

This time, Bulldog is almost motionless!!! BUT THE QUAKER IS NOT DONE YET!!! He zooms off the ropes…

A THIRD EARTHQUAKE SPLASH!!!!

A host of WWF Officials head out to prevent Earthquake from hitting a fourth, but the damage is already done! Quake and Jimmy Hart leave the ring as fans pelt them with garbage while showering them with loud boos!!

Inside the ring, British Bulldog refuses medical assistance, as he tries to use the ropes as leverage to get up to his feet…

BUT BULLDOG CAN’T STAND UP!!!! HE COLLAPSES BACK TO THE MAT!!!

Bulldog continues to refuse medical assistance, and rolls out of the ring and to the floor! He uses the ring steps to get up to his feet, where he hastily stands up, all while the crowd cheers him on!!

From there, the match WAS OFFICIALLY MADE FOR WRESTLEMANIA 7- EARTHQUAKE VERSUS THE BRITISH BULLDOG!!!

Earthquake goes into this contest with all of the momentum, while Bulldog was diagnosed with four broken ribs and a punctured lung! The tough Bulldog says he is ready for Wrestlemania 7, but will not be close to 100 percent going into the matchup! Will Earthquake target the back of British Bulldog in way to victory? Or will Bulldog dig deep and unleash the dog inside of him?

THE OTHER MATCHES ANNOUNCED FOR WRESTLEMANIA 7…

THE UNDERTAKER will square off against THE BIG BOSS MAN! While Undertaker choked the life out of Boss Man at the Royal Rumble, Boss Man returned the favor by attempting to choke out Undertaker with his night stick on Superstars…only for Undertaker to rise up, seemingly unphased! On top of that, The Undertaker was given a new manager by the name of PAUL BEARER! This mortician-type character carries around a GOLD URN which he says possesses all of The Undertaker’s supernatural powers!

“THE MODEL” RICK MARTEL is set to face his former tag team partner and long-time rival, TITO SANTANA! These two have been brawling all around the WWF since 1991 began, and they will finally settle their differences on the biggest stage of them all!!

SGT. SLAUGHTER, the turncoat that he is, will do battle against “HACKSAW” JIM DUGGAN! This one has been personal for Duggan, who didn’t take too kind to Slaughter’s new disdain for the USA! Sgt. Slaughter brought in a new manager, by the name of COL. MUSTAFA! Duggan knew the numbers game would be a problem, so he enlisted the help of RODDY PIPER to be in his corner for the huge Wrestlemania 7 contest!!

THE NASTY BOYS will take on THE ROCKERS in a battle for Tag Team Supremacy…THE MOUNTIE squares off against TEXAS TORNADO…and a GIGANTIC SIX MAN TAG MATCH that sees THE BUSHWHACKERS AND TUGBOAT (The Tug-Whackers?) team up to take on The Slickster’s team of POWER & GLORY AND THE WARLORD!!!

We’ve talked and talked and talked about the Road to Wrestlemania 7, and if you’ve made it this far, then you are BEYOND excited for the show to take place!

- Hogan must pose. I know the WWF had a lot of eggs in the Warrior basket, but he was just never my guy, and I'd rather a true 'next gen' star beat Hogan down the line, maybe at Summerslam. Also depends on how much real life bleeds through as Warrior had all the steroid issues, and Hogan is Hogan, he's gonna want his win back from Mania 6.

Jake Roberts vs. “Macho Man” Randy Savage
- two grizzled veterans but I feel there is a lot more mileage in Roberts' dark side than their is for Savage at this point, so I'm picking Jake.

- hot damn, love both these guys but I would like to see a world where Bret is booked like the top guy he should be, without all the politics and nonsense that frequently disrupted his main event runs.

WWF Tag Team Championship- Hollywood Street Fight

- I actually dont care for either team by this point, they feel so imbued with the spirit of the eighties but this is almost the perfect final chapter for both. I've gone Demolition purely based off of having Hogan and Bret winning - we dont need three titles changes at Mania.

Dusty Rhodes & Virgil vs. Ted Dibiase & Bam Bam Bigelow
- come on now gimme those good wrestlemania feelings with a Virgil victory and Dusty throwing bionic elbows everywhere.

Earthquake w/Jimmy Hart vs. British Bulldog
- has to be a big year coming up for Bulldog with Earthquake on the wind down.

The Undertaker w/Paul Bearer vs. Big Boss Man
- we're keeping the streak, right? With this being Taker's debut, I could actually see you not having the streak and putting Boss Man over, but I'm saying Taker wins as the new 'character' that can be built towards the main event. Boss Man had a lower ceiling, sadly.

Tag Team Match
The Rockers vs. The Nasty Boys w/Jimmy Hart
- love me some saggs and knobbs, but The Rockers should get pushed back to the top of the tag division eventually, and this is one way to get them going.

Grudge Match
Tito Santana vs. “The Model” Rick Martel
- always enjoyed Martel's work, and we need some more heel victories

“Hacksaw” Jim Duggan w/Roddy Piper vs. Sgt. Slaughter w/Col. Mustafa
- HOOOOOO! I can see Slaughter winning and we lean into the crazy heat he was getting at the time for being a darned traitor, but also, I dont know how much fun that type of gimmick can be to write...whereas Roddy Piper promos? Now that's a whole load of fun.

Singles Match
The Mountie w/Jimmy Hart vs. Texas Tornado

Six Man Tag Match
The Warlord and Power & Glory w/Slick vs. Tugboat & The Bushwhackers
- Slick COULD make the difference, but I think the Bush-Tuggers give everyone that feel good babyface opening victory to kickstart the night.
