Chapter 24: The Disney Endgame
By October 2025, everything was aligned.

The structure.
The roster.
The schedule.

Now—
It came down to one thing:

The deal.

Final Talks with Disney

Negotiations with The Walt Disney Company had been building for months.
Early conversations had been exploratory.

By now—
They were definitive.

Bellator wasn’t pitching an idea anymore.
It was presenting a fully formed system:
  • Bellator MMA aligned with ESPN
  • Bellator Boxing ready to launch
  • A weekly and monthly event structure
  • A growing roster of recognisable fighters
“This is the package,” Matthew Manson said in the final presentation.

A pause.

“Now it’s about where it lives.”

The Pitch

The proposal to Disney was simple—
But powerful.

Bellator Boxing would become:

A consistent, premium combat sports property
Built specifically for Disney+.

Not occasional events.
A full calendar.
A system.

The Launch Vision

Manson had a very clear starting point.

“Las Vegas,” he said.
Always Las Vegas.

More specifically:
Michelob Ultra Arena.

A proven venue.
The right size.
The right energy.
We had already created a relationship with the operators to put on NWPW events.

And at the centre of it—
Deontay Wilder.

The First Event

The plan:
Bellator Boxing 1
  • Location: Michelob Ultra Arena
  • Headliner: Deontay Wilder
  • Global broadcast on Disney+
A statement.
Not just a launch—
A reset.
“People know Wilder,” Manson said.

A beat.

“They’ll tune in.”

For Disney, it made sense.
A recognisable name.
A clear entry point.
Something immediate.

Building the Weekly Engine

But the real value wasn’t just the first event.
It was what came next.
Immediately after the launch—
The plan shifted to consistency.

Weekly.
At:

Cox Pavilion.

Bellator Boxing: FightNight
A dedicated platform for:
  • Prospects
  • Developing fighters
  • Rebuilding names
Many of them coming from the newly acquired:
ProBox TV.
Now fully integrated under the Bellator banner.

“This is where the roster grows,” said Garry Jonas.
And more importantly—
Where it stays active.

The Full Calendar

By January 2026, the model was locked:
Monthly:
  • Bellator Boxing numbered events
  • Major fights
  • Headline-driven cards
Weekly:
  • Bellator Boxing: FightNight
  • Cox Pavilion base
  • Development pipeline
Two layers.
One system.

Why Disney Worked

For Disney, this wasn’t just another rights deal.
It was:
  • Regular live content for Disney+
  • Integration with ESPN
  • A scalable, long-term property
For Bellator—
It was everything they needed:
  • Global reach
  • Platform consistency
  • Room to grow
“They’re not trying to fit us into something,” Martin said.
“They’re building with us.”

Closing the Deal

By the end of October 2025—
The framework was in place.

Key terms aligned.
Structure agreed.

Only final details remained.

But internally—
They already knew.

This was it.

Final Thought

After the final meeting, Manson stood outside, looking out across Las Vegas.
The city where everything had come together.

From early conversations—
To a fully realised platform.

“It starts here,” he said quietly.
Not just with a fight.

But with a system.

A schedule.
A structure.

And a clear beginning:

Deontay Wilder
Headlining
At
Michelob Ultra Arena

Launching Bellator Boxing—

Into something real.

Ariel Helwani Show (YouTube)
Date:
8th October 2025
Guest: John Martin
Host: Ariel Helwani

Opening

Ariel Helwani:
Alright, we’re back, and this is a big one. A lot happening in combat sports right now. Joining me—CEO of Bellator MMA under the new Bellator LLC structure—John Martin. John, good to see you.

John Martin:
Good to see you, Ariel. Appreciate you having me.

Bellator LLC & The Bigger Vision

Helwani:
Let’s start with the big picture. Pershing Square Capital Management forms Bellator LLC—MMA, boxing, even pro wrestling with New World Pro-Wrestling. What’s the vision?

Martin:
It’s about building a unified platform. Combat sports have always been fragmented. Bellator LLC allows us to bring structure—shared operations, consistent scheduling, and clear identity across each division. MMA, boxing, wrestling—they’re different products, but they can all benefit from the same system and ultimately from a private equity point of view, there is value in the collective, they havent just focused on one form of the sport to cling onto, but have had the vision to create three new forms of combat sport, three recognisable names that they feel will gain great returns for there investment long term.

Bellator MMA Rebrand & Timing

Helwani:
Let’s get into it. Professional Fighters League becomes Bellator MMA in January 2026. Why now?

Martin:
Timing is important. The PFL model had its strengths, but we felt the sport works best when it’s simple—weight classes, champions, rankings. The Bellator name aligns with that. This is a full reset, not just a rebrand.

UFC, ESPN & The Opportunity

Helwani:
There’s a lot of talk right now about Ultimate Fighting Championship on Paramount Plus, you guys have a deal until the end of 2026 with ESPN. How does that impact your thinking right now?

Martin:
We’re aware of it, like everyone is. From our perspective, it creates an opportunity. ESPN has been a great partner to us, and there’s a shared belief that Bellator MMA—especially with this new structure—can become a meaningful alternative in the space.

Helwani:
So you’re saying there’s alignment there?

Martin:
Yes. They understand what we’re building. A clear, consistent MMA product. If the landscape shifts, we’re in a position to grow into that space.

Helwani:
That’s a big statement—“meaningful alternative.”

Martin:
It is. But it’s earned over time. We’re not trying to replicate what the UFC has done. We’re building our own identity. If we execute properly, fans will recognise that.

Numbered Events on ESPN

Helwani:
So from January 2026, we’re looking at Bellator numbered events?

Martin:
Exactly. Bellator 1, Bellator 2—it creates immediate clarity. Fans know what they’re watching, and it gives the product a consistent identity.

Helwani:
And that’s all staying on ESPN?

Martin:
That’s the current plan, yes. They’ve been very supportive of the direction we’re taking.

Bellator Boxing & Early Moves

Helwani:
Let’s talk boxing. Bellator Boxing—this is ambitious. You’ve already signed Deontay Wilder and Caleb Plant. What’s the strategy?

Martin:
It’s about balance. You need recognisable names to launch, and those two give us immediate credibility. But we’re also building a pipeline—young fighters, prospects, consistent activity. It’s a full system.

Helwani:
What’s the plan for Wilder specifically?

Martin:
Get him active. Position him correctly. There’s still a path there for him at the highest level, and we believe we can help him get back into that conversation.

TKO, Boxing & The Difference

Helwani:
There’s also a lot of talk about TKO Group Holdings and Dana White exploring boxing. How do you view that?

Martin:
It’s interesting. Anytime major players enter the space, it gets attention. But boxing is very different to MMA. It’s not one promotion, one belt, one structure.

Helwani:
So how does Bellator approach it differently?

Martin:
We’re not trying to centralise boxing into one governing body or create something like a “UBO” model. That’s not realistic for the sport.

Instead—

We’re working with the system:
  • Major sanctioning bodies
  • Established promoters
  • Existing talent pipelines

Martin (continued):
The goal is to build relationships, not replace them. If we can collaborate with the likes of Top Rank, Golden Boy Promotions, and others, we can help create the best fights for fans.

Helwani:
So more open ecosystem?

Martin:
Exactly. Bellator Boxing becomes the platform—where the best fights can happen—rather than trying to control the entire sport. We will have our own fighters for sure but we want to be able and open to everyone in the eco-system to make sure everyone wins.

Streaming Partner Update

Helwani:
Alright, the big one—where is Bellator Boxing landing?

Martin (smiles):
We’re very close. Advanced discussions with a major streaming partner. We feel confident.

Helwani:
Global platform?

Martin:
That’s the goal. This needs to be accessible worldwide.

Weekly Fight Nights & Structure

Helwani:
You’re also planning weekly fight nights, right?

Martin:
Yes. That’s a key part of the model. Monthly marquee events, but also weekly FightNight shows. It keeps fighters active and gives fans regular content.

Helwani:
So this isn’t just about big cards—it’s about consistency?

Martin:
Exactly. It’s a schedule, not just events.

Final Thoughts

Helwani:
Last one—2026. What should fans expect?

Martin:
A clear product. A consistent product. And a growing platform. Bellator MMA and Bellator Boxing are built for the long term. If we do this right, fans will have a genuine alternative across both sports.

Helwani:
Big plans. Appreciate the time, John.

Martin:
Thanks, Ariel.

Helwani (to camera):
Alright—John Martin. Bellator MMA launching January 2026 on ESPN, Bellator Boxing close to landing a major streaming deal, and positioning itself as a real alternative in a shifting combat sports landscape. Stay tuned.

BELLATOR MMA:
Las Vegas, Nevada — Bellator LLC Headquarters

The boardroom inside Bellator LLC’s Las Vegas headquarters was quiet, but not tense—focused. Floor-to-ceiling windows framed the Strip, glowing under the desert night, a fitting backdrop for what was being decided inside.

At the head of the table sat John Martin, composed and methodical, a man used to navigating billion-dollar decisions. Across from him, Matthew Manson sat slightly angled in his chair, watching, calculating—waiting for the right moment to speak.

Across from them, two senior executives from ESPN reviewed the proposal in silence.
Martin broke it.

“We’re not launching something new,” he said. “We’re restoring something that already matters.”
He slid a document across the table.

BELLATOR MMA — JANUARY 10, 2026 — LAS VEGAS

One of the ESPN executives nodded slowly.
“The rebrand makes sense,” he said. “Bellator still has equity. More than what PFL was building toward.”

Manson leaned forward slightly.
“It’s a known commodity,” he added. “But this time, it’s structured. Disciplined. Built to last.”

The Platform

The ESPN executive folded his hands.

“Let’s be clear about expectations,” he said. “We like the direction. We’re backing the rebrand. But this deal runs through the end of 2026.”
Martin nodded once. “Understood.”

“We’ll be watching closely,” the executive continued. “Viewership. Engagement. Market response. If the plan works—we extend. If it doesn’t…”
He didn’t finish the sentence.

Manson did.
“Then it doesn’t deserve to continue,” he said plainly.

A brief pause.

Then, a small smile from across the table.
“Good,” the executive said. “That’s exactly the mindset we want.”

A Unified Banner

Martin advanced the presentation.
“This isn’t just about MMA,” he said.
A slide appeared:

BELLATOR — GLOBAL COMBAT PLATFORM
  • Bellator MMA → ESPN
  • Bellator Boxing → Disney+
“Five-year agreement in place for boxing,” Martin continued. “Consistent output. Traditional structure. Global reach.”

Manson added, “Different platforms, same ecosystem.”
The ESPN executive nodded.

“So effectively,” he said, “Bellator becomes part of the Disney sports portfolio.”
“Exactly,” Martin replied.

“MMA drives live broadcast,” Manson said. “Boxing builds long-term narrative and global depth.”
“And both reinforce the same brand,” Martin finished.

The Venue

The screen shifted again.

Michelob Ultra Arena
“January 10th,” Martin said. “We open here.”

“Controlled environment. Premium feel. We dictate the presentation from the first frame.”
“You sell it out?” the ESPN executive asked.
Manson answered immediately.
“Yes.”
No hesitation. No qualification.

The Headliner

Martin clicked to the final slide.
Two names filled the screen.

Ronda Rousey
vs
Gina Carano

That changed the room.

The ESPN executives leaned forward almost instinctively.
“Is that locked?” one asked.
“Rousey is signed,” Martin said. “Already part of the wider system.”

Manson continued:

“And we’re leveraging that—carefully.”
“She’s active elsewhere?” the executive asked.
“In a different discipline,” Manson said. “But this is different. This is real competition.”

“And Carano?”

“Ready,” Manson replied. “More importantly—relevant.”
He let that sit for a moment.
“You’re not just selling a fight,” he continued. “You’re selling history. Two pioneers. Two names people remember—even if they haven’t watched in years.”

Martin leaned forward slightly.
“This isn’t about stacking a card,” he said. “It’s about making a statement on night one.”

ESPN’s Position

The room settled again.

One of the ESPN executives exhaled quietly.
“If this lands,” he said, “you’ve got something.”

Manson met his eyes.
“We know.”
“But understand this,” the executive added. “We’re not committing long-term yet. 2026 is your proving ground.”

Martin nodded.
“That’s all we need.”

After the Meeting

The ESPN executives gathered their notes, already discussing rollout strategy, media obligations, and production timelines as they exited the room.

The door closed behind them.
Silence returned—but it felt different now. Lighter. Certain.
Martin leaned back slightly.
“They’re in,” he said.

Manson stood, walking toward the window overlooking Las Vegas.
“They’re interested,” he corrected. “There’s a difference.”

Martin joined him.

“You think we’ll get the extension?”
Manson looked out at the city for a moment before answering.

“If we deliver,” he said, “they won’t have a choice.”
A pause.
“And that fight…” Martin said.
Manson allowed himself the faintest smile.
“That fight,” he replied, “is how we make sure they’re watching.”

January 10th, 2026 wasn’t just a debut.

It was the start of a new era.

The landscape of global combat sports had shifted—quietly at first, then all at once.

By the opening days of 2026, the creation of Bellator LLC had done more than consolidate assets. It had redrawn the map.

Headquartered in the heart of Las Vegas, the fight capital of the world, the new entity stood as a fully integrated powerhouse—housing mixed martial arts, boxing, and professional wrestling under one unified vision.

At the center of it all was a simple idea:

Control the platform. Control the narrative. Control the future.

The Bellator Structure

Under the Bellator LLC umbrella, three distinct but connected properties were now operational:
  • Bellator MMA
  • Bellator Boxing
  • New World Pro-Wrestling (NWPW)
Each carried its own identity. Each served a different audience. But together, they formed something the industry had never truly seen before—a coordinated combat sports ecosystem.

NWPW: The Prime Position

New World Pro-Wrestling was the first to move.

With a global launch imminent, NWPW was set to begin its five-year broadcast partnership with Amazon Prime Video, positioning itself as the exclusive professional wrestling product on the platform.

In a fragmented wrestling market, that mattered.
  • WWE had shifted to Netflix
  • All Elite Wrestling remained aligned with Warner Bros. Discovery
Neither had a presence on Prime.

NWPW did.

That exclusivity gave the promotion a clear lane—one built on accessibility, consistency, and a sports-based presentation that stood in contrast to its competitors.

Bellator MMA: The Reset

For Bellator MMA, 2026 wasn’t a launch.

It was a return.

Following the acquisition and restructuring of the Professional Fighters League, the decision had been made to restore the Bellator identity—recognition over reinvention.

Now, the promotion stood on the edge of its first event of the new era:
  • A full rebrand
  • A renewed focus on rankings and elite competition
  • A broadcast deal with ESPN
Bellator MMA’s position was clear:
prove itself in 2026—or earn long-term stability.

Across the sport, the benchmark remained:
  • Ultimate Fighting Championship, aligned with Paramount Global
The UFC still controlled the top of the market.

But for the first time in years, a legitimate challenger had structure, funding, and a unified vision behind it.

Bellator Boxing: The Strategic Play

If Bellator MMA was about restoration, Bellator Boxing was about positioning.

Built from the foundation of ProBox TV, the promotion was preparing for its debut event in January 2026—backed by a five-year global deal with Disney+.

The planned headliner:
  • Deontay Wilder vs Derek Chisora
A fight designed to immediately command attention.

But unlike disruptive attempts to restructure boxing, Bellator Boxing’s approach was more calculated.

Rather than attempting to replace the existing system, it would work alongside it.
  • Partnering with established promoters
  • Collaborating with major sanctioning bodies
  • Leveraging existing rankings and titles
The key to the Disney deal wasn’t structural overhaul—it was brand power.

“Bellator” carried recognition. Credibility. History.

That name value proved to be the decisive factor in securing long-term distribution.

The Competitive Landscape

By January 2026, the lines were clearly drawn:

Professional Wrestling

  • WWE → Netflix
  • AEW → Warner Bros. Discovery
  • NWPW → Amazon Prime (exclusive)

Mixed Martial Arts

  • UFC → Paramount
  • Bellator MMA → ESPN

Boxing

  • Premier Boxing Champions → Amazon Prime
  • DAZN → Top Rank, Golden Boy Promotions, Matchroom Boxing, Queensberry Promotions
  • Bellator Boxing → Disney+
No single entity had ever positioned itself across all three major combat sports with this level of coordination.

Until now.

The Reality

Bellator LLC entered 2026 with:
  • Strong broadcast partnerships
  • Recognizable global branding
  • Strategic positioning across three sports
But the challenge wasn’t entry.

It was execution.

NWPW had to prove its sports-based model could scale globally.
Bellator MMA had to justify its return and secure long-term backing from ESPN.
Bellator Boxing had to carve out space in a crowded market—without trying to control it.

Three different strategies.

One unified vision.

As January 2026 began, one thing was clear:
Bellator LLC wasn’t trying to replace the industry.
It was trying to sit at the center of it.

EPILOGUE
We Say Goodbye

Las Vegas, January 2026.
The city was alive in a way only fight week could create. Hotels full. Media everywhere. Fighters moving through lobbies like main characters in their own stories. For Bellator LLC, it was the moment everything had been building toward.
For Matthew Manson, it felt like the end.

The Final Week

“The ONE” fight week had delivered exactly what it was supposed to.

Momentum. Attention. Validation.

Manson moved through it all quietly—meetings, handshakes, brief conversations—but without the urgency that had defined the previous year. There were no fires to put out. No deals to close at the last minute.

That work had already been done.

On fight night, inside the Michelob Ultra Arena, he took his seat ringside.
Front row.
Not as an operator. Not as the man pulling the strings.

Just as an observer.
The lights dimmed. The broadcast began. And as the event unfolded, it became clear—Bellator LLC didn’t need him anymore.
That wasn’t a concern.
It was the point.

The Structure Was Complete

By January 2026, everything was in place.
  • Bellator MMA under John Martin
  • Bellator Boxing under Garry Jonas
  • NWPW fully alive and under daily management by Shane McMahon, Harold Meji and Cary Silkin
Each division had its own leadership. Its own systems. Its own direction.

Above them all, reporting lines were clear—ultimately leading back to Bill Ackman and Pershing Square Capital Management.
The ecosystem no longer needed a builder.

It needed executives.

The Builder’s Mindset

Manson had always known this moment would come.
He wasn’t a long-term operator.
He was a builder.

Starting in Hong Kong with the rebirth of the Hong Kong and Macau League System, to Project 26, building the new MLS / NASL Soccer Pyramid since 2015.

Since the late 2010s, the idea had been forming—a new kind of wrestling organisation. Structured. Global. Sport-driven. Something different.

That idea had become New World Pro-Wrestling.

From there, it expanded.
Acquisitions. Negotiations. Alignments. The creation of Bellator LLC itself.
What started as a concept had become a functioning system spanning three combat sports.
There was satisfaction in that.

But not attachment.

Time to Move On

For Manson, the next chapter had already begun—long before this one officially ended.

Property development.

Los Angeles.
Las Vegas.
The Middle East.

Real assets. Real infrastructure. Projects that existed beyond broadcast schedules and event calendars.
The same principles applied—vision, timing, execution.
But it was different.
And that was the point.

The Quiet Exit

There was no announcement.

No press release.
No farewell speech.
Just a gradual, deliberate step away.

The teams were in place.
The leadership was established.
The reporting structure was clear.

Manson’s role had reduced to almost nothing—by design.
He had seen it through to the moment it could stand on its own.
And then, he let go.

The Real Achievement

Bellator LLC wasn’t just another promotion.
It was proof of concept.

That you could build:
  • A global wrestling organisation
  • A rebranded MMA platform
  • A competitive boxing entity
And align them under one vision.
For Manson, that was enough.

The End of an Era

As the streamers came down over Okada in the ring and the crowd inside the Michelob Ultra Arena rose to its feet.

Manson stayed seated for a moment longer.

Taking it in.

Not the whole event —but the system behind it.
Then he stood.
No entourage. No attention.
Just another figure leaving the arena.

Outside, Las Vegas carried on as it always did.
Inside Bellator LLC, the next phase was already underway.
And for the first time in years, Matthew Manson had nothing left to build there.

It had been an idea.
Then a project.
Then a reality.

Now, it was someone else’s to run.
