Shotgun was well shotgun I guess. Ahmed Johnson looked powerful tonight, as he should when Faarooq can have all his henchmen fall without looking weak himself. Enjoying the throwback to the early days of The Outlaws with no theme music and just straight words, and it looks like their feud with The Headbangers will keep on which is solid enough. Hector Garza getting another win was fine, although whilst you referred to it in your writing, I would have maybe liked Sunny to even slightly address all her controversy considering she would have had a live mic in her hand.

And as much as gang warfare isn't my favorite thing in the world, the ending makes sense as does the match for Unforgiven after the way Savio and team set up the DOA.

Still super pumped for Unforgiven to, which the big three matches (Michaels/Taker, Austin/Pillman, Bret/Shamrock) being such a strong card.

YES! You’re pulling the trigger on Shamrock vs Tyson.

I hope we see Shamrock/Tyson in your version of WM 14 (if you end up writing it).

Mainly an Unforgiven preview of sorts for the weekly news here which is fine. I've really enjoyed the way this card has come to fruition, a lot of original angles and matches on it (Austin/Pillman, Bret/Shamrock), so I'm pumped for it.

The rest of the rumor mill is fine, although I do wonder if this is the beginning of the end for Slaughter. Could be interesting to see him replaced.

Anyway, really looking forward to the first three hour IYH. Card and build up is good.

I thought the Pillman promo on the Free For All was quite good. The right amount of addressing the actual issues (Austin and Slaughter), but then also his loose cannon side with the reference to meds, and the repeated sniffing of Sunny’s hair. Really good stuff and the motivation of revenge on Austin for taking him out a year ago still stands true. Looking forward to the match later on.

HBK’s opening line on ‘Taker not sweating his mummy and daddy going up in flames was kind of awesome. The rest of the promo was fine, but I think this alludes to us getting something big with Shawn tonight. I don’t think HHH and Chyna not being around is a swerve. Shawn has a different plan. We’re getting a new member to their group, or the Kane debut tonight.

Match between Los Boricuas and DOA being on Free For All is the right move. Good idea to keep it short. Match followed a basic tag formula which is fine, and the DOA getting revenge for the set up from the Boricuas previously works. Looks like this whole gang warfare angle is far from over though, which as I’ve mentioned before, has me torn because I was never a big fan of this angle in real life.

And now onto the main show…

The visual of Goldust and Marlena bringing out dog food sprawled across a golden platter is awesome. A solid choice of opener for sure, and the match was really solid. I enjoyed the few teases of the dog food throughout, those really had to happen to play up the stipulation. ‘The Anvil’s interference being interrupted by The Patriot was okay in terms of shenanigans, although do we just assume Patriot really put a hurting on Neidhart, as he wasn’t able to return moments later, and The Patriot was? In my brain, that’s what happened. Anyway, Goldust winning is probably the right call here, and Patriot returning to prevent Bulldog from fleeing was a nice moment. A pretty solid opening to the show.

Fun follow up with a furious Bulldog vomiting up all of the dog food too.

Six man tag was enjoyable. I enjoyed the dynamic with Taylor being the odd man out, and clearly having issues throughout with his fellow team members. I actually really like the booking here as well. Lawler and Christopher are both pretty great as heels. Having them put over these at this time relatively low charisma Light Heavyweights is a great way to get them over. For Juvi and Taka, this feels like a big deal. Good stuff.

I really enjoyed Ahmed/Faarooq because I feel like you really stuck to the time period limitations. This was still a little before the crazy Hardcore/Street Fight matches that would become the norm. Whilst there was still plenty of outside action, I thought you kept the weapon use to somewhat of a minimum which suits the time perfectly. The action portrayed the hatred between the two well. I lost count of the amount of times one of these guys was just choking the other because of how much they hate their opponent. Then the big ending… I don’t really have to much to say at this point, except that I’m excited to see a heel Maivia in here. Considering his heel run and rise to stardom was booked so well, I’m intrigued to see how you’ll use him moving forward.

Tag Title match was fine for what it was. Really no choice but to book The Godwinn’s in this feud after what happened to Henry’s neck. LOD get the win and look decent well doing it, so excited to see what’s next for them. Hoping you can find a way to keep The Godwinn’s away from the tag title scene.

I’m happy even though he’s not wrestling, Raven is still getting some time on the PPV. Indicates that you’ve got some big plans for him. The promo here was fine, maybe giving away some more of his character, but still not informing us what his exact motivation is for being here… Interesting.

Awesome/Dude was probably my favourite match so far. Dude just wrestles a slightly softer style, so whilst I enjoy the character, I would love to see a Cactus Jack transition here. Have these two from Japan, with Foley as his character he played in Japan, just beat the hell out of each other. Anyway, this was still a good match and Awesome getting the win was the right move, but they were hamstrung by their already being a Street Fight on the card. Again, still solid enough stuff though, but with Jackyl’s interference, hoping there’s more from these two in the future.

Slaughter promo was intriguing. Love that he’s looking forward to the two men destroying themselves in the cage tonight. It’s a nice juxtaposition as he’s supposed to be the corporate stooge, keeping mayhem to a minimum, and now there’s most likely going to be bloodshed. Of course, the hook here is another Slaughter/Austin confrontation tomorrow night on Raw, which I’m all in for.

Pre match promos for Shamrock and Bret were solid enough, although realistically the scene is already set and we’re good to go. I thought the match told a really good story here, with Bret maybe not entirely ready for how prepared Shamrock was. First he went with striking and failed, then Shamrock outwrestled him in the early stages as well. Whilst Shamrock held his own, it felt like there were still moments of inexperience with Shamrock, that allowed Bret to gain the advantage. The spot that calls out to me right now is when Bret nailed the Stun Gun. I’m familiar with the Figure Four around the ring post, but not a Sharpshooter. Unsure if that was a typo or potentially a move I’ve never seen or don’t remember seeing. As the match progressed, both men getting their signature submissions made sense. Interesting that neither man submitted and then from there with Owen helping, Bret gets the cheap win. I like it. I think the match does wonders for Shamrock, going with Bret for so long is such a rub. Meanwhile, Bret cheating to win, much like his brother Owen would, is also a tremendous bit of character work for Bret, having thrown away his morals. Very good.

Shawn’s interview beforehand was fine, being his usual arrogant self. This felt like a typical Shawn heel match where he just gets beaten from pillar to post for the most part. This allowed ‘Taker to really unleash some of his anger with all he’s been going through recently as well. Shawn FINALLY getting the advantage, only to then stupidly go for a Tombstone was a ridiculous decision. Arrogance at it’s finest. I would have maybe liked the cocky expression on his face or something detailed a little more before he did that. The lack of description didn’t quite capture the drama for me. Heading into the ending, I think I was a little disappointed. Not that anything you did was wrong, but I think I hyped myself for a Kane debut, or a new buddy from Shawn, so when it was “only” HHH and Chyna, I felt let down. That’s on me though haha… Still, fine way for Shawn to just escape again, and the DQ says maybe we get a third match soon which I’m okay with it.

‘Taker DESTROYING the referee afterwards was a nice way to further establish his emotions.

I didn’t expect a Mero appearance tonight, but love the realistic approach of having something going on well the old school cage is constructed. Segment was great, the proposal caught me off guard but I love that Sable accepted the proposal as well. Definitely unique to what happened in real life, and has me pumped for what’s next here. Well done.

Cage match getting the main event feels like a big deal. Loved the quick, chaotic nature of the start, putting over the unpredictability of, well, both these men really. Also enjoyed the call backs here, with Pillman trying to take out Austin’s neck, and Austin trying to Pillmanize again. LOL, a nice spot but there is no way Austin’s hitting a Superplex off the cage in 97. I enjoyed this, although I’m torn on the ending. The race to escape and just winning in that manner doesn’t feel like a decider/feud ending result to me. I’d assume the cage match stipulation is supposed to be the end, but this doesn’t feel very definitive to me. Austin winning is definitely the right call because on his way to superstardom.

First three hour IYH was a success.
