Took me forever on Google just now to remember his name but Tostig Godwinson especially sounds like he'd be a hilarious character to see interpreted on screen. The sources we have that are on his side even talk about how much everyone just disliked him bc he was a socially awkward dude. Shit like that kills me

He'd 100% be a character like Ralphie from Sopranos. A piece of shit who everyone tolerates till he goes too far

Also the sibling rivalry between Harold Harefoot and Harthacnut with Emma of Normandy being the biggest sociopath bitch in the background ignoring her kids Alfred and Edward (the Confessor) in favor of Hartha but then when he drops dead he acts like the best mom ever for Edward lmfao

I actually just recently listened to a road to 1066 series from the rest is history covering that and Dan Carlin has a great series about the fusion of Viking/Christian culture that also has a lot.

It's basically all I've wanted since I learned about it. I want Game of Thrones season 1-3 for like 10 different historical periods but that's a big one along with the succession crisis after Alexander dies
Lmfao I'm literally been listening to that all day

You gotta check out the Dan Carlin one, he def goes more into the sagas with their more fantastical elements but still keeps you grounded that they probably didn't happen.

There like 5 hours each, one is called Thor's Angels that tells the beginning of the christianization of the Franks and then two sequels called Twilight of the Aesir where he covers the last of the Scandinavian Vikings including most of the 1066 crew

So hear me out, outside of maybe Robert E. Lee, I think Douglas MacArthur is the most overrated American general in history.

I think this will be very similar to the consensus eventually agreed to currently for the bronze age collapse really. It was a ton of underlying causes but if you need to pinpoint one, just simply a collapse of economic system due to them.

Especially since economics in the ancient world largely relied on Palace Economics, in which the economy was centralized around the capital and spread outward as long as the ruling class was able to spread trade. Once that collapses, be it via war, ecological disaster, or even civil strife, it all falls apart.

Something I've never really thought about but this recipe is basically early bouillon cubes, I thought it was more of a very modern thing for some reason

I think a more depressing reality is that a majority of the bodies that *had* some extant Homeric scripts were dug up by grave robbers and those scrolls used for various purposes like burning material.

In a way that's just history to me at this point bc most of that grave robbing happened in the BCEs because the pyramids and Egyptian burial grounds are just that fucking old. Yeah it sucks but I mean what can we expect over thousands of years lol
